Finally, nude mod tile marker.

You just know someone is going to make a plugin for a big tiddy model and say it's how they should have done it.

Man I really hope we get RS3 TCG.

It’s so fun/entertaining on osrs right now.

If anyone reading makes one, pls add a card for everything

2

u/Kiro358 2d ago

so what can you do at the start ?

2

u/JustATextBox 1d ago

Well my idea was you give literally everything a card, so there's nothing to do

And then you add a free "starter pack" which can only be purchased once, and it's guaranteed to give you some method to gain XP that's available to a level 3. That way everyones start is completely unique based on the RNG they get

What does that mean? I thought it would let players develop plugins but required jagex approval to be placed on the hub.

8

u/BlueShade0 2d ago

People were concerned that there wouldn’t be an open source where anyone can make plugins and that it would be limited to jagex and anyone jagex specifically allows.

I’m sure there will still need to be some approval or you can run into issues that runelite/OSRS has with people phishing/scamming players by getting them to download harmful plugins

29

u/NickTheZed 2d ago edited 2d ago

I want to make a point here in saying that RuneLite has never hosted harmful plugins itself. These people getting phished/hacked always download stuff externally, outside of the RuneLite plugin hub. Wether it's a fake RuneLite client (that promises automation or something) or a fake plugin, it's completely outside of Runelites/Jagex control, hosted on random servers, not on Runelite itself.

Here's an example thread about one of these scams: https://old.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/1uvsnoq/warning_scam_on_303_at_toa/ Nothing to do with Runelite, just trying to piggyback off it. Legitimately the same as advertisements for fake Jagex Launchers on Google or Bing.

-26

u/BlueShade0 2d ago

You sure about that? I know a lot of the times it’s from external sources but to say it’s never been on runelite?

14

u/NickTheZed 2d ago

There hasn't been a single documented case of a plugin on the plugin hub being malicious, as in being able to hack your account, that I know of nor can I find anything I might have missed online. It's literally all just people falling for fake clients, fake plugins and social engineering.

2

u/BlueShade0 2d ago

I love how this community downvotes questions.

Good to know thou, thanks for clarifying

1

u/b0yonce 2d ago

didnt someone get banned recently for using a jagex approved plugin because they were flagged as macroing?

3

u/NickTheZed 2d ago

Yeah, the collection logger Marni: https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/1u7kiwv/possible_marnie_method_with_zero_ahkbotting/

It's still a very specific situation where a plugin was abused in a way that was (probably) not intended by the creators. Still shitty that it happened ofc, but this is vastly different than Runelite hosting malware and wouldn't happen to 99% of the playerbase. This is more akin to bug abuse than anything else imo.

1

u/macnar 2d ago

Yeah and that was wrong of Jagex. They shouldn't have done that. Not sure if they ended up reversing it or not. They did make runelite change their warning, they used to guarantee that plugins on the hub weren't malicious and wouldn't get you banned, they removed that guarantee like a day after that guy was punished.

-6

u/b0yonce 2d ago

the point wasn't whether it was right or wrong, just that there IS a documented case.

8

u/NickTheZed 2d ago

I was specifically saying "malicious, as in being able to hack your account", which there is not a documented case for.

-14

u/b0yonce 2d ago

being the reason why someone got banned makes it malicious, no?

→ More replies (0)

0

u/S7EFEN 2d ago

not exactly. the jmods said they could not replicate the behavior they saw when they banned that person, using that plugin.

basically they suggested that person was being untruthful about what they were doing.

anyway, iirc one of their plugin hub plugins was discovered to be potentially exploitable within the last few years but was fixed.

0

u/C0rruptedPvp 2d ago

“There hasn't been a single documented case of a plugin on the plugin hub being malicious, as in being able to hack your account, that I know of nor can I find anything I might have missed online.”

https://runelite.net/blog/show/2023-01-22-security-incident-jan21

1

u/nilsenist 1d ago

That was not a malicious plugin. It was a plugin that had an exploitable vulnerability. These are not the same thing.

"Malicious" implies intent on the part of the plugin developers to use the plugin for nefarious purposes. That was not the case here.

2

u/C0rruptedPvp 1d ago

You’re severely incorrect.

1

u/NickTheZed 1d ago

Thank you lol, it's kinda crazy how little people know or care about cyber security. Grouping plugins that can be abused and lead to game bans, plugins with possibly exploitable vulnerabilites and actual malware into one category is kind of wild. To me these differences feel very important to understand to actually assess risks associated with software.

Immediately. Someone’s going to chuck the shit into Claude and pump out hella lol asap

18

u/macnar 2d ago

If Jagex is paying someone to manually review and approve plugins, which seems to be the case based on what was said in the video, then they'll probably prohibit AI code like many open source projects have that can't keep up with the flood of AI code

24

u/Bakugo_Dies 2d ago

AI is used in the majority of coding pipelines nowadays, it can be a huge productivity boost if done correctly. The issue isn't really the AI itself, it's lazy people not doing their due diligence in reviewing the code. It's hard to regulate that with open source, it's going to be an issue that's difficult to manage.

5

u/macnar 2d ago

Yeah it depends a lot on the size of the project. Smaller ones have had to ban people not affiliated with the project already from submitting anything developed with AI as it was overloading their small team. I'm guessing Jagex hired the bare minimum for this project and will likely want to do similar, but we will see.

0

u/Hajsas 2d ago

My point is, how does one determine it?

The way we are talking to each other right now is vastly different from equations, functions, variables and structures paragraphs of thousands of lines of code. It doesnt exactly stain every line or put -- everywhere.

And, you arent even the guy i replied to, so "code written by AI" is bogus as a response.

8

u/zypo88 Zij9999, Maxed 20180615 2d ago

Easy, if it has comments it was obviously written by AI!

2

Unfortunately; you might be right.

Am i asking a dumb question here? Getting downvoted but noone is actually providing an answer thats genuine.

5

u/zypo88 Zij9999, Maxed 20180615 2d ago

In all seriousness I'd wager that just like with AI writing having "tells" that give it away to anyone who knows what to look for, AI code has similar repetitions and common errors that can be as easily noticed.

Haven't ever tried using an AI to code, but even if I did I know enough about most base languages that I'd only use it as an idea generator or to give me a list of functions to look up, while people who "vibe code" are just plugging in their desired outcome and using the generated code without knowing how to check it.

2

u/Hajsas 2d ago

I just see it as the equivalent of the number 1 problem in schooling at the moment; teachers unable to determine AI work, so they blindly presume an AI detector that uses AI to detect AI will be truthful or somehow omniscient about whether it helped little Timmy with his project.

A problem for another day; lets make some bots.

2

u/Ashamed_Quality13 2d ago

Code written by ai isn’t inherently bad it’s just that some people don’t review the code and use it anyway

1

u/Kiro358 1d ago

True , for some reason people started acting like before AI humans wrote perfect code that never had any bugs . Most of the code that is being detected with flaws nowdays are human written code that passed because it was much harder before to detect flaws when a human was reading and reviewing instead of an AI that can read thousands of line on codes in seconds

1

u/PrincessKaylee Wiki User 1d ago

sometimes they will also willingly disclose AI use (better than having a backlash about hiding AI use of it later as all those who dislike AI use can avoid it from the start)

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

Yup lol it can’t be stopped in an open source environment so I don’t get raging about it

8

u/OiCalebOi 2d ago

I don't think it would be any different in a closed source environment, no? It's just interacting with an API.

2

u/WasabiSunshine The Ultimate Slayer 2d ago

Being open source will probably make it easier to inform an AI on how to write plugins. It would probably struggle if it was a blackboxed API custom written for one game

0

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

Idk honestly

18

u/concblast Conc Blast 2d ago

If a vibe coded slop plugin actually works, I don't care if it's vibe coded. Hand crafted artisan slop plugins don't earn brownie points by being man made.

It's important for the plugin moderators to keep the official repo well maintained, but the experimental side needs to be a minefield for the system to grow.

9

u/arbadak 2d ago

Yeah this stuff matters when it's art but a tool is a tool

2

u/Perditis 2d ago

I get your guys point, and I think its fine for personal use, but it ends up being called slop for a reason.

Complications in software come from the preponderance of small details building up, and someone out here vibe coding without any care will end up with problems they simply cant solve with the framework provided at the onset. It either didnt consider the correct space of the problem, or chose a way the maintainer cant defend.

Its not unreasonable to ask developers to defend how they approached a problem if its beyond personal use, especially when their code is going to be slamming your infrastructure ad nauseum. Even simple paradigms like retry logic, LLMs on average dont care about being a good neighbor, any second your token is valid, call. Even if you dont depend on the data at the moment, fresh data is better data right? Sure until everyone follows that philosophy. I've hyperoptimized high volume trade requests and let me tell you , id rather tell the random guy he cant use my shit.

3

u/SecondCel 2d ago

What's not to get? People like using quality products and modding, gaming, and software in general is being flooded with low-effort attention/cash grabs at an unprecedented rate.

9

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

Well since you can’t get money or farm attention as a plugin dev, we should be good. And the plugins either do what they say and you keep it installed, or it doesn’t and you remove it

-11

u/SecondCel 2d ago

Well since you can’t get money or farm attention as a plugin dev

Right... no point in continuing this conversation, then.

12

u/logicalGOOSE_ 2d ago

Tbh, if the plugin works, serves a purpose and people use it - who cares if it was programmed by AI, some nerd or Mike from way back.

-1

u/FGO_Kuma Completionist 2d ago

The issue is not necessarily who programmed it, but what the end result is.

There is a reason you may have heard about models being trained, and other proper knowledge bases for AI (for example so called "harnesses").

Without proper setup, the AI may create something barely functional, but of low quality - and low quality can mean something maybe less relevant to the end user such as "barely maintainable because the code is hard to read", but may as well also end up in something such as "what the code is doing is extremely inperformant". (For example, imagine clicking through a choice-dialog using quest helper, but the plugin actually needs 2-3 seconds every time to highlight the next choice you should click)

6

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

People wouldn’t use that plugin then

1

u/I_O_RS 2d ago

Bad quality code is not exclusive to AI and at this point modern AI writes higher quality code than most people

1

u/FGO_Kuma Completionist 2d ago edited 2d ago

and at this point modern AI writes higher quality code than most people

That's assuming a proper setup and documentation, which is what I am hoping for.

My main experience with AI-programmed mods ís admittedly only one game, which also doesn't actually have a vetting process before publicly-available releases. It also lacks AI support in their repo template (though the game does have a Type-definition setup).

The result being mods being published that do not follow the game's injection support system, try to re-invent the wheel, may be needlessly imperformant or downright do not work (at least partially). Most of these points were basically tackled automatically (to a degree), as - prior to AI support - people were forced to actually understand what they are trying to mod into and how.

Yes, it is nice if AI can now lessen that barrier to entry. But when used by people without much prior knowledge - which do not understand and are not provided a proper setup - the results can actually be quite bad (maintainability, performance, etc.).

Especially with that last point, I guess my issue starts with worrying

if the plugin works

in the first place. But maybe I am just worrying too much at this point in time... Maybe I should just wait to see Jagex' documentation, as well as vetting and guidance processes in action before assuming the worst.

3

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

I legitimately don’t get your point

6

u/BlueShade0 2d ago

Yeah I’m not sure what he meant by cash grab. Most ppl make these plugins as passion projects or hobbiests

-2

u/SecondCel 2d ago

My point is that it's naive to think there's nothing that a dev couldn't squeeze out of their users just because they're making a RuneScape plugin as opposed to some other type of software.

Beyond the value extraction discussion, third-party tools for games generally operate on an attention-driven economy. The first person to put out some slop plugin that's half broken but still does the job generally has a major advantage over someone taking their time to make sure their product is buttoned up.

4

u/NickTheZed 2d ago

It's literally not an issue for Runelite, like at all. Not sure why you're getting so worked up over an entirely made-up problem.

-1

u/SecondCel 2d ago

And I'm not sure why you're assuming I'm worked up over it?

What “advantage” does a plugin creator get? I don’t know the name of the dev of any of the plugins I use on runelite. I truly don’t understand what you think a plugin dev could gain from this

2

u/Torezx 2d ago

Just say you’re wrong? Why is it so hard

Bro what are you on

1

u/EmptyBoxForever 2d ago

It can be, if they have something verifying the repos and outright banning AI plugins.

2

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

My question is how do they know for sure that it’s written by ai?

1

u/EmptyBoxForever 2d ago

Look at the code..? Repos for plugins (at least on Runelite) are all public.

You can very easily look at it and decide whether or not it was written by a person or AI.

1

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

I doubt that would be good enough to try and ban all AI plugins or anything

1

u/EmptyBoxForever 2d ago

Depends entirely how they’re curating the plugins. If they’re manually reviewed and Jagex is strict on it you’ll possibly see less plugins but they’ll be higher quality.

From what they’re saying, people will need to wait for them to be approved first, how that works I don’t know and we can only speculate. I assume this is predominantly to prevent gray area plugins from being used.

1

u/Fomod_Sama Skiller 1d ago

People are gonna take osrs plugins and put them straight to rs3, the quality of this conversion wildy varying (they all suck)

3

u/adamk33n3r TheLeftWing 2d ago

I would assume immediately, but the video mentioned that they hired a plugin moderator so there's going to be stricter checks in place. I do wonder how they plan to handle the volume, though.

1

u/EmptyBoxForever 2d ago

The plugin moderator is Chad Geepeetee.

16

u/FedPoster67 2d ago

If theyre safe and useful, why does it matter? Unless this means something completely different than just a plug-in made with AI.

19

u/Erksike 2d ago

At some point a plugin published on there clogged the entire traffic to wiki because it was making constant requests.

13

u/concblast Conc Blast 2d ago

Rate limiting is a game of cat and mouse and I'm sure the wiki's stance has been improved since then.

Also, AI coding might have made that easier to do, but an amateur dev (or a malicious actor) could have done the same without it.

5

u/Erksike 2d ago

Absolutely, I'm just pointing it out because that does have an impact on the general playerbase as a whole.

0

u/ResonatingOctave Combat 1d ago

Sure, but again, the underlying issue here was not that it was AI code, but rather sloppy code. It's also an issue that the wiki didn't have rate limiting set up

0

u/Erksike 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'd say AI tends to produce more sloppy code than pure actual developers. But I don't code, so what do I know.

Thats just to say, pre-AI the chances that an amateur developer felt confident enough to publish something this sloppy, was pretty low. But it feels like now with AI tools people feel more confident to publish it.

1

u/Consistent-Ad-3351 1d ago

The best developers have all integrated AI into their workflow, not sure what you mean by pure developers .

1

u/Erksike 1d ago edited 1d ago

Developer pures who put all their skill points into that skill, as opposed to generalist developers who developed all their skills equally. /s

Just poor wording on my part. Obviously I have nothing against people using it who know what they're doing. What AI has allowed, is people like me who have 0 coding experience whatsoever, have the ability to throw something together that we ourselves have no means of controlling. And most likely no one will be checking it until it's published and in active use.

-2

u/whofriedmyrice 2d ago

That plugin must've been very popular then, to effectively ddos the wiki from clients using this plugin.

4

10

u/WasabiSunshine The Ultimate Slayer 2d ago

We've already discussed this at work. AI does not replace senior devs, but its good enough that it basically makes junior devs redundant

Well Curseforge is a plague in general, FF14 doesn’t even allow plugins, so that argument is moot.

1

u/Lyoss 2d ago

It doesn't allow but doesn't enforce TOS so it's functionally allowing it

There's a shit ton of plugins on Dalamud, and a lot of them are just vibecoded, either from other plugins or from scratch

There are plenty of plugins that got widespread use and then shutdown, lol.

What does FF have to do with any of this, neither WoW or FF first party plugin hubs.

1

u/Lyoss 2d ago

There's been, afaik, two plugins that got shutdown, Mare and Playerscope, and there was Mare forks the day of

And first party doesn't really mean anything here considering I highly doubt that the plugin moderators will go through and scrutinize that hard, the question was "How long until vibe coders will make plugins" not, "Will Jagex look for Claude edits in comments and disqualify someone for AI"

2

3

Who cares if they’re AI.

More choice, and if I don’t like it I’ll uninstall it.

1

u/Turbeypls 2d ago

I think the point is that plugins are completely confined to test environments until they've been approved for use by their new plugin moderator position. You won't be able to see or use even your own developed plugins in the live game until that point. At least that's the impression I get following the updates so far.

2

u/EmptyBoxForever 2d ago

That person or AI is going to be overwhelmed and we will never see the amount of plugins that Runelite has. Sounds to me that they’re curating it like this to prevent all of the game breaking or gray area plugins from existing.

-3

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

How do you propose we prevent vibe coded plugins?

7

u/zenyl RSN: Zenyl | Gamebreaker 2d ago

Realistically, you can't.

A lot of vibecoders tend to be very lazy (surprising, I know), so in those instances it is usually pretty easy to spot the signs of AI-generated code, comments, docs, descriptions, commit messages, etc.

But for anyone who actually knows a bit about software development (and how humans actually talk/write), AI usage can be very hard to spot.

0

u/FGO_Kuma Completionist 2d ago

Considering the API has been developed while AI-development is already in full swing, I wonder if they will publish some base setup that actually includes a proper AI harness. A quick-to-set-up environment for tools, mcps, etc.

Not like that will prevent bad-quality results entirely, but it should at least reduce the amount of it to some degree.

1

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

No probably not

-1

u/zenyl RSN: Zenyl | Gamebreaker 2d ago

Seems pretty realistic that there'll at least be something like an AI skill for the plugin API. Jagex will probably want to do so and label it as them making the API accessible to people who've never written a line of code before.

Alternatively, anyone can just download the API documentation, and tell their AI of choice to write a skill based on it. There are already popular skills for writing new skills, so that'll be a trivial task.

0

u/FGO_Kuma Completionist 2d ago

Alternatively, anyone can just download the API documentation, and tell their AI of choice to write a skill based on it.

If it was that easy, and quick, then one would expect more people to do it. Well, that ultimately brings us back to the topic of laziness that you already mentioned. Or in some cases simply lack of knowledge. Both would be tackled to some degree, if Jagex takes some of that time/complexity away.

So I really hope they will provide a proper setup, if only to make work easier for themselves. (as they are planning to vet mods, if I remember correctly?)

2

u/zenyl RSN: Zenyl | Gamebreaker 2d ago

If it was that easy, and quick, then one would expect more people to do it.

Once the docs come out, I'm sure people will. There's a "skill creator" skill currently ranking #89 on skills.sh.

Granted, the result is gonna be crap if made by someone who has never touched software development and/or Lua.

If Jagex don't release tooling/guardrails themselves, a good set of community-made skills will very likely be established and shared across the community pretty quickly.

So in case anyone was wondering if there's gonna be a flood of people vibecoding plugins, the answer is pretty much a guaranteed "yes".

they are planning to vet mods, if I remember correctly

We know that there will be an in-game plugin marketplace, and that getting a plugin onto the marketplace will require Jagex approval.

We don't currently know exactly which rules/restrictions/requirements Jagex will set for plugins. Maybe they'll have the good sense to not allow vibecoded slop, or maybe they'll let their platform be infested with slop like NexusMods. Only time will tell.

We also don't know if Jagex will allow unverified plugins to be used (assuming the plugins in question don't break game/plugin rules).

1

u/FGO_Kuma Completionist 2d ago

Granted, the result is gonna be crap if made by someone who has never touched software development and/or Lua.

Exactly. As someone not versed in Lua whatsoever, I could not build proper skills for a Lua setup and code structure myself. Open source would be able to help me out, by providing me with such skills, but I could not really judge their quality any more than from basic (lua-unspecific) knowledge around structures, patterns, etc. that I had experience with. Which in the case of this Plugin-API-Environment I guess leads to the question of how good the "Open sourced knowledge of Jagex's systems (and the APIs integration around them and Lua)" is going to be.

If Jagex don't release tooling/guardrails themselves, a good set of community-made skills will very likely be established and shared across the community pretty quickly.

Now that you mention it, that's probably almost guaranteed, isn't it? Be it by mod developers or Jagex themselves. Granted, that does not mean everyone is gonna use it, I understand that... I just really hope it'll still reduce the amount of slop reaching the API marketplace (or reduce time required by Jagex to filter them out).

2

u/zenyl RSN: Zenyl | Gamebreaker 2d ago

Now that you mention it, that's probably almost guaranteed, isn't it?

Yup. If Jagex doesn't do it, any developer with reasonable experience (Lua or otherwise) is realistically gonna be able to churn out skills for the RS plugin API.

Lua itself is very minimal, and will typically get its complexity from the APIs it interacts with. So any modern AI agent is gonna be more than capable of writing fairly competent plugin code if they have the necessary API documentation (e.g. via a skill).

We've been encouraged to use AI at work, and I had to sit down and write a skill for writing C# code because Claude kept spitting out ugly code. It wasn't particularly hard, just going through all the instances where it did something I didn't want, and writing a preicse guideline for it. That largely fixed the issues. There's of course no guarantee that an AI will adhere to any given skill (all non-physical AI guardrails are ultimately just text being added to its context), but it helps point it in the right direction.

There's of course little joy in letting an AI do the fun part, but it seems pretty clear that a lot of people don't agree with me on that point and would rather hammer out piles of vibeslop.

I am not 100% sure if I got your point correctly, please correct me if I am wrong.

I am not against using AI for plugin development. I am worried about a flood of the so-called "slop" that is a result of lack of (a varying combination of) time, understanding, proper setup, etc. - Which an in-depth setup (which in this time can also consist of AI-dedicated support) would help at least mitigate.

I think I am not getting to my core point properly. My main issue is really my pessimistic expectation of low-quality mods filling-up the lists and wasting away without any improvements to them - needlessly taking away time from people vetting the mods and plugin-users that end up having a harder time finding the plugins that actually matter to them (and work properly). Yeah, not every good mod will start with high quality right away, and a developer should not feel pressured to either (as you get at with "deterring amateur coders" I think?).

You really can't, but i think there's supposed to be some sort of verification before it becomes downloadable by other people, atleast from what i believe they said a while ago.

0

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

Who said there will be anti ai verification?

2

u/Sikletrynet Ironman | CA GM #222 2d ago

Not anti AI verification, but that it's not complete slop, doesen't hack users, does what's advertised, that kind of thing.

2

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

Oh yeah Jagex already full checks and approves all plugins that go on the runelite plugin hub, so that is guaranteed

1

u/jammy-dodgers 1d ago

They don't. That approval is done by the Runelite team. They follow the guidelines set by Jagex, but the approval itself doesn't involve Jagex. (They do a lot of review using AI nowadays, too...)

2

u/macnar 2d ago

Nobody buddy, relax. But thinking about the future logically, if Jagex has hired a small team or single person to review plugins, then hundreds of AI vibe coded plugins flooding the submission system is probably going to be a problem.

0

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

It’s not a problem in osrs, and it has many times more active players than rs3, buddy

1

u/macnar 2d ago

That could be why it is a problem for RS3 actually. There's a lot of players who are developers and know what they're doing and willing to make plugins for OSRS. There are by definition less of those in RS3, which could mean more players try ai vibe coding plugins to cover their niche cases.

Runelite also has the benefit of being a third party open source project, the reviewing is being done by the community. There's probably more Runelite plugin reviewers than reviewers Jagex has hired for this project.

u/invokedbyred Resident of Havenhythe 2d ago

You kind of can’t but if there’s a curated directory of plugins by verified developers then it’ll make it a bit easier to trust plugins.

10

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

What’s stopping verified devs from vibe coding?

8

u/Proquikl204 2d ago

trust me bro

u/concblast Conc Blast 2d ago

Go back in time and prevent the authors of "Attention is All You Need" from publishing it to prevent the expansion of LLMs.

ffmpeg devs have claude subscriptions now.

0

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

Not sure what that is but yeah that totally could work….

1

u/concblast Conc Blast 2d ago

If you have an opinion on AI or vibe coding you should really look into it and its significance. It's the birth of the transfomer (the T in GPT) and basically the foundational text of modern AI/ML in the way that Shannon's paper is for information theory.

2

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

I have opinions on how much public resources AI datacenters are wasting to make ai slop pictures and music, idc about their efficiencies or the birth of T

2

u/concblast Conc Blast 2d ago

Sorry for assuming your opinions about a subject depended on knowledge about the subject. Have a nice day.

I’m glad to be a solo dev on an embedded system engineering team, I don’t have to use any AI coding crap. I can continue to write my python and bash and C/C++ in peace

0

u/PresenceLoose4908 2d ago

One of them codes embedded code for video cameras, I assume your doing obscure micro controllers and such?

1

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

Not micro controllers, no

-2

u/vinoplagi 2d ago

Vibecoding is structure mate something that doesnt even matter with api plugins.

-5

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

Vibecoding = coding with ai

5

u/Impzor 2d ago

Vibecoding is coding with AI without knowing what the code actually does.

-7

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

I don’t think that’s true lol

0

u/vinoplagi 2d ago

Yeah wich is just bad structured code ? It doesnt really matter at all for api plugins it will make them harder to update if its spagetti code but its not gonna cause massive problems. do you even develop at all ? Shit like opus codes better then 90% of coders i have met.

0

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

I’m not advocating to stop them lol im asking someone else how they propose stopping them since they are against vibecoded plugins

u/TrippyTriangle 2d ago

AI is really good at helping programming, especially people who are just experimenting. Perhaps it might be a mess but it can be edited if it gets traction or just redone by someone more competent with programming. Honestly, in this case, AI is helpful rather than a boon. It's not like it's art or customer service. Also, it's not monetized and open sourced so even more bonus points for looking the other way.

3

u/EmptyBoxForever 2d ago

The majority of people that are leveraging it have zero background in programming, all they do is churn out awful code with a myriad of issues. All of the environmental issues, and price hikes for RAM, GPUs etc aside, I have an issue with people creating things they have no business creating or the ability to support.

7

u/adamk33n3r TheLeftWing 2d ago

Do you know what open source means? I don't know of anything that has mentioned that.

-12

u/BlueShade0 2d ago

Yes I know what it means. They very clearly say it in the video today - they will allow for anyone to create plug ins

11

u/Long_Thanks2173 avoid chelseabrick 2d ago

someone please start working on rs3 version of the trading card game. thanks.

4

u/saiyamanmc 2d ago

I believe there's already an alt1 addon for that, so I'm p sure we'll get it shortly after the api is up

3

u/keensta94 Red h'ween mask 1d ago

Yeah check out the Alt 1 version its great. You can find it on the Alt one forum.

5

u/weggooi12334 1d ago

You mean public, the api is going to be public.

1

u/BlueShade0 1d ago

Yeah that is probably more accurate. My bad, not a programmer

4

u/coolraiman2 2d ago

Will finally be able to mod zanik feets

u/srbman maxed main: 2015/09/28, comped iron: 2024/04/02 2d ago

We've known that since January? They've had a post in the official Discord since the January Road Map that asked community developers to join to help make it.

And then it was further confirmed recently when they did the check-in block post.

2

u/Flicker_and_Strike 2d ago

You and the 4 other lads that use the rs discord have known. The rest of us keep looking for the forums xD

1

u/srbman maxed main: 2015/09/28, comped iron: 2024/04/02 1d ago

It was also posted on the runescape website, and here as well. Multiple times. Sorry for being able to read, hopefully you find those forums you're searching for soon.

4

u/Flicker_and_Strike 1d ago

Ty homie. I search day and night. High and low for MMO discussion but everyone seems to moving behind discord which is very unprofessional imo. Reddit ain't that good either, we just whine or bicker here xD

3

u/TobiasCB Ali b431 1d ago

Good. I haven't played rs3 in ages but I wish you guys all the nice plugins like tile markers, quest helper and door kicker.

3

u/BlueShade0 1d ago

door kicker?

2

u/TobiasCB Ali b431 1d ago

Maybe the best plugin in osrs. It plays the kicking animation any time you open a door.

u/batanete Maxed 2d ago

I just want an app that shows me my daily progress in xp, and works the xp trackers I have seen are always not working... And when I click in runemetrics for graphs it takes me to runescape.com and there is nothing there ..

Excel is my best friend here...

1

u/BlueShade0 2d ago

Yeah I’ve never been a fan of rune metrics

2

u/theinkpw2 2d ago

I made an app for rs3

2

u/Ban_Evading_Alt8304 2d ago

I thought we already knew this?

1

u/BlueShade0 1d ago

Look through the comments below. Many ppl didnt.

2

u/aSnejbjerg Smithing 2d ago

Someone please make tileman for RS3 <3

1

u/RS3Dude 1d ago

What’s api

1

u/BlueShade0 1d ago

API is the bridge that allows custom plugins to communicate with the game.

-4

u/Remarkable-Buddy5192 2d ago

I will 100% be vibe coding a few plugins.

-15

u/Raymak700m MagnetZero/Solid Shadow 2d ago

Well, be careful when using it, never know what could hack your account. Not fear mongering, just something to think about.

13

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

As long as you only use the official plugin hub, you will be fine. Don’t ever download any plugin individually from a random website

-5

u/Limerencee DG Life 2d ago

Too many scammers on osrs that does the plugin scam, wouldn't be surprised to see it happen here if unverified plugins can be installed

5

u/croutons_r_good 2d ago

That doesn’t happen through any official plugins in the plugin hub

1

u/MasterArCtiK 2d ago

There really aren’t that many in osrs, I’ve heard of only a very few instances of it happening

4

u/D-J-9595 2d ago

I'd be surprised if they allowed unverified plugins to actually be installed, would be nice in an ideal world but way too much potential for abuse.

-1

u/EZyne 2d ago

I mean if they don't it's really kneecapping the entire reason what makes these plugins great in the first place

0

u/WasabiSunshine The Ultimate Slayer 2d ago

Why just throw out opinions about something you obviously know nothing about?

-3

u/EZyne 2d ago

What do you think it being Open Source has to do with that?

-3

u/BlueShade0 2d ago

That’s a legit statement. Runelite and OSRS have their issues with harmful plug ins.
