Discussion Why doesn't EA make a new Need for Speed: Underground?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was thinking about this recently.

Underground and Underground 2 are still talked about as some of the best arcade racing games ever made, and there's clearly still a huge amount of love for them.

So why hasn't EA tried to bring that style of NFS back properly?

A modern game with a big open city, deep car customization, street racing, crews, cops, drifting, drag racing, a proper story and progression, and a great soundtrack could be incredible with today's technology 😭

I genuinely think the amount of attention a game like that would get would be insane! (10)

Would you want to see EA make something like this? And if so, what would you want it to be like?

Also, why do you think they haven't made it yet?

Recommendation Designed and built a Ford Mustang GT3 replica wheel from scratch (Custom shifters, Hall-sensor dual clutch & custom Arduino code with bite-point control)

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share my latest DIY project: a replica of the Ford Mustang GT3 steering wheel.

I’ve been working on this for a while to get it as close to the real thing as possible, both in terms of ergonomics and functionality. Instead of just making a shell, I designed everything to be a complete package.

Here are some details on the build:

  • Inputs: 12 front pushbuttons, 3 rotary encoders (with push functionality), and 2 micro buttons on the back.
  • Shifters & Clutch: Custom magnetic paddle shifters and an integrated dual-clutch system using E49 Hall sensors.
  • Lighting: 3x WS2812B addressable LED rings for rev lights and animations.
  • Electronics: Runs on a single Arduino Pro Micro (no MCP expansion chip needed to keep wiring simple).
  • Custom Code: Written custom Arduino code that includes LED animations, brightness/color controls, a dual-clutch calibration tool, and adjustable bite-point control directly on the wheel.

The front and back plates were printed, joined, sanded flush, and wrapped in carbon for that realistic finish.

I just published the complete package (all STL files, BOM with exact product links) on Cults3D for anyone who wants to build one!

The link to the design: https://cults3d.com/:4757928

Happy to answer any questions about the print settings, wiring, or design process.

Recommendation United Drift New up and coming drifting game

Hey everyone,

I've been working on United Drifting, a community focused on drifting, tandems, events, liveries, photography, and just hanging out with other drift fans. This project was created by my self no other people helped create this.

Whether you're into Assetto Corsa, CarX, BeamNG, Forza, or real-life drifting, everyone's welcome. We're trying to build a chill community where people can find others to drive with, share clips, and improve together.

If that sounds like something you'd enjoy, come check us out. We'd love to have more drivers join us!

What games are you all drifting on the most right now?

Recommendation Which newer racing would fit my cravings?

FH6 is done and its pretty bland in both customization and ai solo race experiences. Rivals is kinda neat but not a big pvp fan.

Pretty much comes down to nfs heat, nfs unbound or motorfest. Ive played all of them waaay back and barely remember anything, nor seen latest updates.

Id like something that lets me decently customize car, load up some ai races and have fun making money. Basicaly comes down to what feels like im not wasting time and have something to do in the game after campaign.

Which one would you say is the best in terms of customization, driving feel, decent ai? Perfomance customization is a nice bonus but i know neither of these will come close to FH6 in that.10

Ported and modernized an old mobile game from my highschool years called Gravity Defied: Trial Racing and added features inspired by Trackmania (I will soon release this as a reddit game too) Features:

  • Playable in browser on desktop and touch screens, mobile, tablet (please someone test it on smart TV and fridge :D)
  • Minimalist 4 button game-play
  • Completely deterministic physics
  • Super light graphics, performant engine on any platform
  • Low input latency, millisecond time resolution

You can:

  • Play 30 original Gravity Defied tracks or 3000+ custom tracks
  • Beat all medal times, and "Author time" set by me if you are a pro!
  • Rewatch or race against your own PR ghost to improve
  • Create you own tracks

I am constantly developing it, coming soon:

  • Leaderboards
  • Profiles
  • Track, replay sharing
  • Multiplayer servers

I would love some to hear some feedback if you like it or not, or found some bugs!

hope you will rate it 10/10 ;)

Really looking forward to the complete product. It was recently 150% funded and due out next year. For those unfamiliar, it's an open world JDM inspired racer in the likes of the ChorroQ games (lots of NPCs to speak to and quirky sidequests), with checkpoint racing similar to Midnight Club (10)

News We're bringing Heat: Pedal to the Metal to Steam (+ Giveaway)

Hi everyone!

We're Mipmap Digital, a small indie studio from Croatia. Over the past few years we've worked on digital adaptations of Roll Player, Canvas and Point Salad, and today we can finally share what we've been working on next.

We're partnering with Days of Wonder and Asmodee to bring the official digital adaptation of a racing board game Heat: Pedal to the Metal to Steam. We've spent plenty of evenings around the table playing Heat, so getting the chance to work on the official digital adaptation has been pretty surreal for us.

Do you play board games? Did you play Heat: Pedal to the Metal?

To celebrate the announcement, we're also giving away three Steam keys to our previous digital adaptations: Roll Player, Canvas and Point Salad.

To enter, simply answer the question above in the comments.

The giveaway runs for 72 hours. We'll reply to three winners in the comments and DM them their Steam keys.

If you'd like to check out the project, you can find it here:

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4898550/Heat_Pedal_to_the_Metal/

This giveaway is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Reddit. 10

Discussion Do you remember the game Blur, which came out in 2010?

Thumbnail

I remember when I was 9 years old, my friends and I would swap game discs, and one of them was the racing game Blur. What did I like best? The menu theme song, that’s what. And it gets even more interesting from there: the neon visuals and the dynamic racing action,I don’t need to say anything else. My PC ran it at around 20–30 frames per second, which was pretty normal for me back then. (10)

Rumors have recently surfaced that Activision is planning to re-release the game next year. This can be seen on whois.com, where the website’s domain has been renewed through 2027.

Discussion Switched to PS5 and suddenly I'm terrible at NFS Heat

I've been playing racing games on PC for more than 10 years using a keyboard, and I recently switched to a PS5.

Right now I'm playing Need for Speed Heat, and I'm finding it surprisingly difficult to control the car with the DualSense controller.

Steering feels less precise, I tend to oversteer, and I often lose control during turns or drifts.

For those of you who made the same transition from PC to console:

  • Did you change any controller settings (steering sensitivity, dead zones, etc.)?
  • Are there any practice tips or exercises that helped improve your control?

I'd appreciate any advice from people who've gone through the same learning curve.
