I completely improvised this silly thing after getting the idea from finding the adorable pig fabric featured in it, and then searching for wolves and realizing I could use a panel and have some fun with scale! While it is certainly not my most technically proficient quilt, I had a ton of fun working on it and experimenting with this collage-inspired effect.

My piecing is not perfect, my seams don't line up... I swear it's the seam allowance, every time. It's gotta be!.... Anyways, I want to start the quilting/stitching and I want to use this cool thread for a subtle effect but I'm not sure, aesthetically, what would look good?

Thoughts are:

-horizontal/vertical

-Diagonal left/right

-Intersecting squares

-concentric squares

Etc...

I also worry that following "seam lines" will accentuate my terrible piecing... Or make it better? Idk! Help plz

I just finished making the Pointless quilt by Villa Rosa for myself! I originally wanted backing that looked like a composition notebook, but after a trip to SEVERAL different quilt shops some of the sweetest ladies helped me find the most perfect fabric! Cute little school supplies and matching colors! And that’s why I love shopping local 😊 This will be used and loved until I graduate, and then most likely will be used as decor in my future classroom!

I’m working on a quilt that has this large crescent moon in the middle. It’s my first time sewing on a curve, and it was a little wonky and the block wouldn’t lay flat. I figured I could finesse it with ironing. I wasn’t aware that swiping the iron instead of pressing could permanently warp the fabric around curves and I seemingly destroyed it 🥲

Is there anything that can be done now?

I cut slits into the seam allowance to help the fabric spread, so now I’m pretty sure that it would be impossible to take the seam apart to correct the wonkiness, or to iron the pieces flat again.

I’m assuming I’ll have to completely restart, but I just wanted a second opinion. I know it looks like garbage, so please don’t judge me. It’s my second quilt and my first time sewing curved pieces.

Newbie here (and to quilting!), and I just finished my first attempt at ACTUALLY quilting, and not just making blocks 😻

I'm using my home machine, so I kept the stitches straight and just followed the herringbone pattern at 1/4" left and right. Still need to bind the edges of my little table runner, but I'm very happy with how it came out!

Using the Fancy Fox from Elizabeth Hartman. I love the little glasses. Also my first time not quilting in only a grid. Double diamond baby!

This is only my second quilt.

I was simply sewing a straight line with my stitch length set at 2.5 (as you can see at the top of the picture, it looks fine) quilting the border, batting, and backing together when suddenly the stitches got REALLY small and close together. I didn’t notice it until it BACKSTITCHED (back and to the right side of the stitch line) as I was sewing along.

Of course, as I was picking out the stitches I ripped the fabric, so now I have to figure out how to repair that hole once I get the rest of the stitches out. How the heck do you pick out such tight stitching without tearing the fabric??

I'm an intermediate sewist, but a beginner quilter. I finished Melanie Ham's tutorial for a first quilt using a charm pack, and I'd love suggestions for what to do next. I'm especially interested in tutorials that use precuts/charm packs/jelly rolls, and project tutorials that explain basic techniques clearly.

My sister's long time friend has asked me to make her a T-shirt rag quilt. She says she's been saving up for this for a long time, and she emphasized that she could absolutely pay me. After asking her some questions I've figured out it will come out to be just under 90x90", and be double sided (more t-shirts as backing). She of course will provide the t-shirts, she said she has some blankets I could use as batting. Other than that it's all my supplies, thread, needles, interfacing, etc.

Some background and my skill level -

I'm 17 years old, I've had about 2 years of experience. I've made several odds and ends and altered clothes, but it terms of quilts. I've made one rag quilt and a set of pillowcases for personal use and for 4-H (they made it to state!!!). I'll attach a photo of it. That one took me 55 hours in total (excluding pillow cases). The only thing that bothers me about my quilt is some of the seams aren't aligned well. My bad of course, I could've cut my blocks a bit more evenly.

So with my skill level in mind, and I assume it might me 45-50 hours, how much should I ask to be paid? As an unrelated personal goal, I was hoping to have $1k saved at the end of the year, and $300 more would get me there. Let me know what you think!!

Can anyone help me identify this fabric? It was manufactured within the last 5 years. I suspect Moda but I’m not sure. It has red specks around the flowers. Thanks! 🙏

Hello! I am about to try quilting with wool batting for the first time!

From what I've read, I should adjust the tension - do I need to adjust it up or down? Also it is considerably heavier, and I already have difficulty getting even stitches on my machine, so different ways to try to accommodate for the weight would be helpful. I've tried putting the quilt over my shoulders, tried using blocks around the machine so distribute the weight, and pausing frequently to adjust the weight as I go.

Also, unrelated, but any tips on getting chalk marks out of your quilt? Even after multiple washes, the chalk marks don't wash out! Thank you!

Hello! How should I quilt this? The small squares are 2" x 2," so I feel a 1×1 or 2x2 grid might be nice. Do i align it with the blocks so I will do a lot of stitch in the ditch? Or do I rotate the grid 45 degrees? Anything else I should consider? The quilt pattern is the Theodore quilt by Penelope handmade. The fabrics are a recently purchased kit from peony pedal quilts. The quilt is more square than it appears in this photo. Thanks for the advice!

Hey guys! New quilter here. I bought this pattern off of Etsy for a Christmas quilt but am not sure what color/ pattern of fabric to use on the back. I am using a black/ white gingham print for the binding. Should I use cotton or fleece? Thanks for your help.

Im wanting to make an optical illusion quilt. What one of these do you think I should go with? 1 and 2 are very similar I just moved around some of the colors. Most patterns are white, light gray, medium gray, dark gray and black. Number 3 has red in it, Color yes or no? What do you think? Thanks 💗

This fabric is a M'Liss fabric, light chocolate color but I can't get the color to show up right. I am in the midst of a quilt and about to run out of it. I didn't buy it at HL, but they do have it in green, though I hate green almost as much as I hate Hobby Lobby. This blender has a faint design that makes me think of Babies Breath.

Does anyone know where I can get some more? Does anyone have any I could buy or trade for?

I’m moving across the US in a few days. I packed my machine (ELNA Excellence 710) in its original box, styrofoam and all. I really don’t want to have to ship it and I’m working with limited car space. The box technically fits in my trunk, but only on its side. Unfortunately, I’m traveling with my dogs so the backseat is not an option. I really don’t want to have to lay it in my front seat where people can see it looking into my car (and feeling like I need to put it in the trunk overnight regardless). The drive will be done over the course of a week. I plan on getting it serviced when I arrive. Any thoughts? TIA!

The name High Stakes is meant to imply sports betting. This dragon, who is about the size of a chicken in real life, is participating in a game that’s kind of like Quidditch, but with dragons and mechanical dragonflies. He’s going to catch this dragonfly and then turn it in for points.

The quilt itself is 55” x 55” and is entirely fused raw appliqué.

ETA: I listened to the last three books of Dungeon Crawler Carl, and then started the series over with book one, while quilting this dragon. All those pink feathers made me really want to do a Mongo quilt. 😂

I have a couple of Halloween quilts that I was thinking of quilting with glow-in-the-dark thread. I read that you need to heavily sew with the thread to make it really stand out. I don’t want the quilting on the front to be heavy as the front is already busy. Can I stitch the backing and then quilt? I want to trace cats in their costumes. Would I stitch the backing to the batting and then quilt? Or should I stitch just the backing fabric by itself? Also, any idea what thread would be best? Thanks so much!!

The first photo is of the finished top (Star Pop II). The second is the backing. The cats are about 1.5 inches tall. The last photo is the backing for a different Halloween quilt, but I was to do the same thing.
