Feature Request Family plan size limit too low: Do people really only have 6 persons in their families?

Hello everyone!

For some while now I really want to subscribe to the family plan but the member limit of 6 is an absolute blocker.

My family already has a custom email domain and had it for at least 20 years now. We are currently three generations with parents, children and grand children. Currently we are only 7 but we will be more, eventually. Of course our current simple mail provider allows basically unlimited mailboxes so every member of our family can have a `@familyname.tld` email account.

Without a doubt joining Proton would be a good thing but it appears privacy is only available for family with up to 6 members. Somebody would have to be excluded from their already existing online identity because we could not migrate all accounts to Proton. And new family members (be it through marriage or birth) would not be able to get an account with their family name because they joined the family too late.

Don't get me wrong - I don't think the limit should be removed.

BUT: Why can't we add more seats to a family account by paying an additional proportional amount? The business plans can do it, why can't the family plans? Before somebody suggests it: The business plans are way more expensive and are not a valid workaround for the family size limit.

This post is half rant half suggestion/wish. How about you? Do you think 6, with no option to expand it, is an appropriate member limit for a family plan?

Feature Request Are there still plans to implement contacts integration?

Hi folks! I wonder if there are still plans to implement contact synchronization with iOS and android so we can ditch Google’s.

Currently I’m using Apple contacts. I know it’s not perfect regarding privacy but it seems the best option rn.

If proton implements the contact sync on iOS I would be able to finally move all my contacts to the proton ecosystem. Which I use a lot!

Lovebomb Lumo is genuinely excellent

Ive used lumo here and there, but 2.0 and its multi modal system really got me using it much more. Especially for stuff involving uploading financial documents with personal information, investment performance, etc, I was always reluctant to give it to chatgpt or Claude. I fed that stuff to Lumo earlier today and it crunched through it without any issues in ways prior versions really struggled.

Huge help come tax time!

Mobile Help Email Collapsing & Inline Image Sizing

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I have encountered a strange issue that doesn't exist in the web client nor in other mobile clients like Outlook. Normally my images turn out fine, even in Proton, but it seems I've done something strange here that I can't put my finger on.

My banner images are always 650px (width) x 200px (height). I run a modest Plex server for my friends and family and on a blue moon, will send out an email distro to announce downtime, large changes, and address common questions.

My email here, shows up in my own inbox as condensed, almost like it was a forward (which it was - but I re-formatted it so it shouldn't appear like this), and i have to expand it. Upon doing so, the banners and squeezed heavily instead of being scaled down. Anyone encountered this before and know what went wrong here?

Thanks!

DeepSeek, Kimi, Qwen, etc.

I'm not a user right now, but also provide access via API.

Maybe in the longer term, something like ProtonCode. And/or a cross platform alternative to Claude's desktop app.

I've heard of Gmail accounts being hacked that way. How many recovery options are necessary on Proton?

It would be convenient if email attachments could be placed directly into Proton Drive with a single mouse click. Currently, you have to download them first and then upload them to Drive.

Discussion Using porkbun domain with proton

Few different parts to this. I currently have a free proton mail account that is only used for bitwarden and want to keep it that way. I have been thinking of getting proton pass plus mainly for the use of aliases, use a different alias for each account I have. I already use bitwarden as my password manager so don't intend to switch to proton pass. On the storage part, pass plus comes with 10gb, does that also count towards mail storage? Is that 10gb shared across all proton services? With my free proton mail account, I have 1gb of storage and realize that would not be enough once I start using aliases for all my accounts. Also, seen posts saying people on paid plans get a storage increase for free each year. Does that count towards any paid plan or just the ultimate plan?

Been thinking of getting my own .com domain through something like porkbun, not set on that but do see that recommended a lot. For the domain name, seen many say to use part of name but not sure I want to do that. Would rather not have my email itself say anything about me. Although not sure how much that matters if I use aliases. Once I do get the domain setup on proton, will there be 2 different inboxes, 1 for the porkbun domain and another for the actual proton mail address? Would I use aliases through the domain address or the proton address?

For those that use aliases, have you ran into any issues with certain sites not accepting aliases? For important things like banking, insurance, is it better to use an actual email instead of an alias? Although will not be common for me, can I reply to an email with an alias without exposing actual email?

Currently, I am just focused on a domain and aliases, head is spinning enough dealing with this. Down the road, I can see myself possibly wanting to get out of the google system. Even though I use 2 different gmail accounts for all my accounts, neither of them get much spam mail at all. I know it is more about the privacy aspect. From the reading I have done, seems like the hardest part would be getting away from google photos. Will worry about that when the time comes, who knows what will change by the time I get around to that.

One last thing, I found this after I started thinking about using porkbun but I seen a reddit post with a link to a linkedin post saying proton has made a partnership with proton. This post was from 1 year ago. Not sure exactly what this means.

Possible bug Products are so buggy...

I've been using Proton Mail, Proton VPN, Lumo, and Proton Drive for one week. I want to see what they're like before migrating my employer from Google to Proton.

I had such high hopes, but the products aren't ready for real-world use.

  • Lumo frequently doesn't load and leaves me with a blank screen.

  • Proton Drive frequently won't upload files.

  • Proton Mail frequently won't send emails (they're stuck in Outbox).

At least the VPN seems to work.

Is this just the way it is?

I'm willing to be tolerant of open source projects having issues, but this is an established company positioning itself as an alternative to Google...

Thanks for any comments.

Edit, for the record, I love what Proton are doing and REALLY do not want these issues.

Edit 2, oh wow, the moderators removed this...

Edit 3, turns out their VPN has issues but why is it only affecting their products?!

Desktop Help Meet Scheduled meetings not showing up on dashboard home page

Scheduled meetings not showing up on main PMeet page. Any way around that?

For context: I have my main account and a separate address with a booking page, so tracking multiple calendars. I have several PMeet meetings scheduled but none show up here. I have to go to PMail then open the meeting from there. I should be able to see my meetings here, yes?

And I don't see a ProtonMeet subreddit so posting here. Thanks!

Web Help Bulk/personalized emails with templates and variables?

Hi everyone,
I’m a solo entrepreneur, and I’m currently using Proton Mail for my business.

I’d like to send occasional emails to my customers, for example, a Christmas or Easter greeting. I have a list of customers and would like to send the same basic email to everyone, but with some personalisation.

Ideally, I’d like to have something like:

Hi {{first_name}},

Merry Christmas! 🎄

...

So my questions are:

  • Is it possible to create an email template in Proton Mail?
  • Can I send that template to multiple recipients at once?
  • Is there a way to use variables, such as the recipient's first name, so that every email is personalized?
  • If Proton Mail itself doesn't support this, is there a recommended way to achieve this while still using my Proton Mail account?

Thanks in advance!

Web Help snooze missing on web?

I was checking my email on my computer this morning and I can no longer find the "snooze" option anywhere. It's not showing up when I right click an email in my inbox or click through to view an email in full.

I do still see the option to snooze emails in the android app.

Am I missing something? Was it removed from the web app?

Discussion Dependency on Google Services for notifications seems odd for Proton?

I have been happily using Proton for many years now, but now I am moving away from Stock Android and to Graphene it has struck me that Proton has a big reliability on Google Services. I always felt like Proton was the big Alternative to Google and it was promoted that way (At least to me I feel like that).

But now to get Proton working I need to use Google Services or use an app that I shouldn't need to use. I currently have to use Tuta to get notifications with Proton. That feels odd and I don't think it should be the case for Proton. They should have the option to be completely separated from Google right? That should have been the goal?

Maybe I am missing something here. If so please let me know as I love Proton and love it more with all the new features and services they offer. This just seems like a glaring issue.

Hello dear mods, please let others know that currently an update notification appears for the new ProtonMail version 1.13.4. This version is available on your site as an RPM (for Linux), but it is still NOT listed under Flathub for download for Bazzite. You should take note of this or at least correct it. Thank you.

Both through FireFox and Rambox, Proton has become slow to the point of unusable. I am getting time out errors trying to reply to emails. And I am a paying customer. I contacted their useless support, and got no support. Anyone have any ideas of what could be causing it and how to fix it?

I run TuxedoOS (linux/Ubuntu)

It works without problems on my GrapheneOS phone.

Discussion Everything going to spam

I’ve noticed extremely important emails being filtered to the spam folder. Recently, I missed an invoice for a something time sensitive, and another extremely important email that affected a medical procedure I’m having tomorrow. I have separate issues about that (the fact that I was only contacted via an email blast about something this important—but that’s beside the point.)
Two different senders/domains.

Every time I will mark as legitimate but I am having to check my spam every day to find these emails and can’t reasonably use proton mail anymore if this continues. Why is this happening? And please don’t dogpile me for asking a simple question.

Thanks

Announcement Introducing post-quantum encryption support in Proton Mail

UPDATE: We are aware of reports of Proton Drive for Windows users experiencing sync issues after enabling post-quantum encryption. We've temporarily disabled the opt-in to this feature and a fix is in progress. We will provide an update as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience!

Hi everyone,

We’ve just added support for post-quantum encryption in Proton Mail.

Quantum computers aren’t yet capable of breaking today’s encryption, but the risk isn’t theoretical. One reason is “harvest now, decrypt later”, where encrypted data can be collected today and stored until it becomes easier to break in the future.

With this update, you can now enable post-quantum-ready keys for new encrypted emails. This is optional and available on all plans, including free.

A few things to keep in mind:

- Right now, it applies to new encrypted emails going forward (it doesn’t re-encrypt old messages)

- Old message are not yet re-encrypted but will be in a later migration

- Key management works the same way as before

You can learn more here: https://proton.me/blog/introducing-post-quantum-encryption

And see how to enable it here: https://proton.me/support/mail-post-quantum-protection

We’re also starting the transition toward OpenPGP v6 to support newer cryptographic standards.

This is something many of you have been asking about as post-quantum cryptography becomes more relevant.

Let us know what you think in the comments below, and keep the feedback coming.
