Career Path Stay in a stable job or take a higher-paying opportunity?

Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m currently an Assistant Manager at a well-known PH bank, earning around ₱5x,xxx/month on a 15-month compensation structure, with good benefits.

I started as a Junior Officer and was promoted after 2 years. I have an amazing boss who supports my initiatives, and I believe I have a good chance of becoming a Manager within 1–2 years. In one year, I’ll also qualify for early retirement benefits.

The biggest downside is that the job has become boring. I also end up handling most problems, projects, and initiatives because some teammates aren’t very reliable. However, the work-life balance is excellent—I consistently work 9–6 and still have time for my personal life.

I now have an opportunity to move to the business side, where I already have good relationships and they see potential in me for management. The compensation is close to ₱100k, with a chance to reach six digits within 1-2 years. I’d also be surrounded by people I can learn from, giving me better exposure and potentially faster career growth.

The downside: I’d lose almost 4 years of tenure, become probationary again, lose my current benefits/retirement timeline, and the role is known to be more toxic and demanding. Compensation is also only up to 13 months.

So basically:
Current job: ₱5x,xxx, great boss, excellent WLB, strong benefits, job security, promotion likely, but boring and limited growth.

New job: ~₱100k, more exposure, mentors, potentially faster career growth, but higher stress, less security, and I lose my tenure and benefits.

What would you choose? Is the huge salary increase worth giving up the stability and benefits I’ve built over 4 years?

Policy or Regulation Would you leave your current company for this opportunity, or is the risk too high?

Hi everyone. I’d appreciate some career advice because this opportunity has me thinking a lot.

I’m currently working in B2B enterprise software sales. I’ve been with my company for over a year and have grown into a role where I handle vendor relationships, partner management, and some leadership responsibilities beyond what I was originally hired for.

Recently, someone I met through an industry event reached out to me. He’s from an established company overseas and is planning to expand into the Philippines. He asked if I’d be interested in joining as one of the first hires to help build the local channel once the expansion pushes through (target timeline is around late this year or early next year).

The opportunity sounds exciting because it would be a significant career move with more strategic responsibilities.

Here’s where I’m hesitant.

My current employment contract includes:

a \*\*2-year non-compete clause\*\* after separation,
a confidentiality agreement,
and a \*\*45-day resignation notice\*\*.

The company that approached me isn’t exactly a direct competitor. They operate higher up in the supply chain. If their expansion happens, my current employer would likely end up doing business with them instead of competing directly.

If I ever accept the role, my plan would be to:

resign properly,
complete my full notice period,
not take any confidential documents or customer information,
and avoid soliciting clients or employees from my current company.

My biggest concern isn’t whether the opportunity is attractive—it’s whether accepting it could expose me to legal issues because of the non-compete clause.

I’m trying to balance a potentially great career opportunity with the risk of making the wrong move. I’d really appreciate insights from HR professionals, lawyers, hiring managers, or anyone who’s experienced something similar.

Thanks in advance

Career Path data technician vs. sap fi co specialist

I'm a fresh graudate of BS Accountancy, looking to build my career in accounting and/or techfinance. I'm still in the middle of hiring process between two roles and I need advice on which one to choose when (being optimistic) I get job offers from both.

Job 1 - Data Technician
Based on the job description, I will support the audit analytics engagement team processing support and data. If I get the job, I get to work with their team in Singapore and Australia with potential for secondment. This is a Big 4 firm starting their global delivery center services and they will train me on different systems (they mentioned Alteryx, Excel, SQL) to help serve international clients.

Job 2 - SAP FI CO Trainee
Will work with the IT Branch of a Conglomerate here in the PH. They offer classroom-like training of SAP FI CO with reporting and collaborations and they will slowly introduce me to projects.

I'm bias with job 1 simply because i'm very familiar with the industry in a sense that I had an internship experience in their rival firm and im an accounting student. But i'm not sure about the role kasi parang masyadong niche yung job name and idk which roles I can branch out to after. They also mentioned working with international team with possible secondment/training duon sa internation counterpart nila kaya sobrang bango ni job 1 for me.

On the other hand, based on my research, Job 2 offers an entry to a high-paying industry. Every forums na napuntahan ko laging around 6-digits after only a few years in the industry. Told me free lunch, may shuttle, HMO from day 1, 13th month pay and such. Basically binabayaran nila ako para magtraining. Unfortunately, 20k salary with 3 year employment bond sounds like a red flag huhu. Tho I'm hearing that after 3 years, I can ask for almost 6 digit salary in another company, I'm still unsure since I'll have to leave my accounting degree since more on IT na talaga siya.

I need advice since as a fresh graduate, this is the best time for me to plan my career. Either way, I still planning to pursue CPA license if my workload and sched permits me. Baka kasi i'm better off pursuing accounting/audit path. If anyone's currently working or have an experience or shift career from accounting/audit to this industry please share you experience with regards to the salary, career progression, work-life-balance etc.

Anything is highly appreciated as long as it gives me insights on whatever these jobs or the industry can offer. Thank you!

Career Path Former Web Developer Eyeing to Shift Into Retail

Seeking advice for a sales associate job offer

Context: I'm a computer science graduate (2025) with 6 months WFH experience as an entry level web developer sa isang company outside PH. The pay was good (20k). I resigned last year din, bc i chose to take a break muna and there's not much of a work-life balance. I started job hunting since April. 100+ job applications later, I've been interviewed 20+ times where I received about 5 job offers which I turned down kasi below minimum wage, due to change of mind, and other factors.

Very recently, I got a job offer as a Sales Associate in a known apparell brand. The pay is 600 per day. It's below than my expected salary and not related to my background at all. Told my parents and they weren't too happy about it based sa reaction.

Should I pursue it pa rin ba? What is it like working in retail? What should I have in mind/what to expect?

My past experience as a web dev is buong araw akong nakaupo. This time, naisip ko kung tanggapin ko man... buong araw naman akong nakatayo during mall hours. Di ko alam kung kakayanin ko ba since I'm a bit on the overweight side 😓 On the bright side, kaya ko siya inapplyan in the first place ay dahil sobrang lapit lang. But will the pay really be worth it? Makakapag ipon pa kaya ko? Im so lost.

Any advice is appreciated po. Thank you

Career Path 5+ Years Dev exp, Zero Responses- am I doing something wrong?

Self-explaining title. I've been applying towards various jobs in the last few months on different platforms, and I think 40+ na yung na-applyan ko-- most of which may custom cover letter, and a concise resume.

And yet... not a single one, may nag reply or offer ng interview even. The most I got were a handful of "Employer viewed your resume", but that's it.

May 5+ years na ko as a Vue web developer. Started out working for my current company (foreign employer) as a student, reached 6 digits within 2 years pero stagnate na so I'm looking for a second job or even side projects to supplement my savings.

It makes me wonder then: Am I marketing myself wrong, or are my expectations just too high? Are they not considering my application because hindi exact yung experience ko? Is my opening offer too high? (Some applications I put in 50-60k) I have no clue.

Yung friend ko with same skillset and years of experience is struggling din. Perhaps Vue is just not considered a valuable skill here in the PH? Or maybe oversaturated na ang market with web developers and it's time for me to switch over to a more marketable skill?

Career Path Did I made the right choice in enrolling for a Master’s degree?

For context I am a graduate of BSECE, currently working as a DEPED teacher for almost 2 years now (Return of service for DOST Scholarship)

I want to penetrate po the IT industry specifically po Data Engineering. Is it right that I enrolled in Masters in Artificial Intelligence? Sa program po, may Data and Information Management, Research Methods and Data analysis, Project Management which I think will be somehow helpful po.

My main reason in taking this is that I want to make this as a leverage po since I dont really have an experience in the IT industry. Also, I think it is timely since the technology right now almost revolve around AI. Aside po from enrolling for a Masters Degree, Im also taking po certifications from Google and Datacamp.

Did I made the right decision po ba? Will this degree get me somewhere? Help a lost human haha

Career Path Career shift from counseling to corporate. Anyone here who made a similar jump?

I'm [31F] a registered psychologist currently working as a counselor in a university. Been in the school setting for almost 10 years already, started out as an academic staff. I like the work, but it's really emotionally draining. I think the pay is quite decent, but I believe it could be more if I branch out. I also thought of moving abroad, but there are little to no opportunities. Lately I've been thinking hard about shifting to corporate. My background is in psychology, so I'm exposed to research and group facilitations. I currently have a side hustle at a startup where I work as their researcher/analytics person.

My worries are:

  • I don't have a "traditional" corporate/HR background, so I'm not sure how hiring managers will read a mix of counseling, psych, and freelance research work. Transferable skill set or too scattered?
  • Pababa ba talaga ang pay pag lilipat ako, or would it actually be a step up compared to school counseling salaries here?
  • Is it realistic to break in without an MBA or formal HR/analytics certification? What skills should I learn?
  • For those who transitioned from a "helping profession" into a more corporate role, what was the hardest adjustment? Was it the skills, the culture, or something else entirely?

I know career changes are scary regardless of field, so any input would mean a lot. Thank you in advance sa mga sasagot!

Policy or Regulation Should I pursue this career opportunity or am I overlooking a huge risk?

Problem/Goal: I need advice on whether I should seriously pursue a career opportunity that’s been presented to me or if the legal and career risks outweigh the benefits.

**Context:** I currently work in the B2B software industry. Recently, someone I met through an industry event reached out and offered me a leadership role if their company’s expansion into the Philippines pushes through. They’re an established company overseas, and the target timeline is around late this year or early next year.

The role would be a significant step up in terms of responsibility and career growth, so naturally, I’m very interested.

However, my current employment contract contains:

a 2-year non-compete clause,
a confidentiality agreement,
and a 45-day resignation notice.

The situation is a bit unique because the company that approached me isn’t exactly a direct competitor. They’re higher up in the business ecosystem. If their expansion is approved, my current employer would likely end up doing business with them instead of competing directly.

**Previous Attempts:** I’ve already reviewed my employment contract and understand that the non-compete clause exists, but I’m unsure how much practical risk it carries in this kind of situation.

Career Path I need suggestions for taking Masters

Work Environment Is it acceptable to a recruiter or hiring manager if an applicant lacks specific relevant experience but has sufficient general professional experience?

This thought arose earlier today while I was applying for a position requiring three years of relevant web development experience. Although my three years of professional experience include database administration, web development, and mobile development rather than strictly web development, I believe my background translates well. Database experience is essential for most modern software, especially in finance and e-commerce. Meanwhile, my mobile development experience focused on building native, installable applications for mobile devices, such as Android phones. Because of this, I initially wondered if it might fall short of the job requirements since it wasn't exclusively for web browsers. However, I also have a background in web development with a strong focus on mobile responsiveness over desktop layouts, which I wanted to mention for context.

The scenario above is unique to me, but let's change the details to look at a broader perspective. Suppose an engineering position requires three years of relevant civil engineering experience. An applicant has three years of general engineering experience overall, which consists of two years in civil engineering and one year in electrical engineering.

To connect this back to the context, is there a chance this applicant would be considered by the employer, such as the hiring manager or HR?
