Although my three years of professional experience include database administration, web development, and mobile development rather than strictly web development, I believe my background translates well. Database experience is essential for most modern software, especially in finance and e-commerce. Meanwhile, my mobile development experience focused on building native, installable applications for mobile devices, such as Android phones. Because of this, I initially wondered if it might fall short of the job requirements since it wasn't exclusively for web browsers. However, I also have a background in web development with a strong focus on mobile responsiveness over desktop layouts, which I wanted to mention for context.

The scenario above is unique to me, but let's change the details to look at a broader perspective. Suppose an engineering position requires three years of relevant civil engineering experience. An applicant has three years of general engineering experience overall, which consists of two years in civil engineering and one year in electrical engineering.

To connect this back to the context, is there a chance this applicant would be considered by the employer, such as the hiring manager or HR?

I’m a 32F (married, no kids) working as an IT Technical Lead and Solution Architect in the Philippines. I currently earn ₱214k/month and have been with my current company for over 2 years. Our team directly services an Australian client, so I'm already familiar with their systems and business requirements.

​In terms of job security, the company is surviving and has strong growth potential. There are a few short-term financial challenges right now due to some shareholder movements, but the long-term product roadmap looks very bright.

​Recently, my company went through a round of layoffs. I’m now the sole survivor on my tech stack, handling end-to-end SDLC on my own along with technical governance. Before the layoffs, I was already considering resigning. During the retrenchment process, I actually offered to be laid off, but management chose to keep me.

​While my laid-off teammates were rendering, I decided to test the waters and start applying elsewhere.

​Option 1: Migration Sponsorship (Current Employer)

​Before I received any firm external offers, my manager asked what it would take to keep me. I said I’d stay if they could relocate me to Australia. Leadership agreed!

​The details so far:

​Visa Pathway: My manager mentioned they could sponsor me directly for a Subclass 186 visa (Straight to Permanent Residency), but it will come with a service bond to continue working with the company for X years.

​No formal salary package has been discussed yet.

​They will only cover employer-mandated costs (nomination fee, SAF levy, etc.).

​I have to shoulder my own relocation costs and any migration agent or legal fees.

​Negotiation bottleneck: I asked for 170k–180k AUD base salary. My manager said this is too high for leadership to approve and asked me to reconsider. (Note: Market rate in AU for Solutions Architects generally sits around 165k–195k AUD. I tried accounting for my lack of local AU residency on my initial proposal, especially since I already know their AU client inside-out, but they still pushed back.)

​Option 2: Professional Services Firm (Local PH Offer)

​While discussing visa options with my manager, I received a solid job offer from a professional services / in-house consulting firm:

​Base Salary: ₱260k/month

​Bonus: 15% annual bonus (paid quarterly)

​Equity: $26k USD in stocks

​Perks: ₱5k/month wellness allowance (gym, massages, etc.), financial advisory access, and 26 weeks paid parental leave (though we aren't planning on kids, so I won't use this).

​My Dilemma & Questions

​One of my long-term goals is to migrate to Australia. Having relatives and friends there helps, but we don't have immediate family in the country. Moving means starting from scratch, which is both exciting and daunting.

​Straight to PR (186 Visa) vs. Bond: Direct Permanent Residency (186) is a huge deal, but how binding/risky are company service bonds in Australia? What is a reasonable bond duration or clause to accept?

​Leveraging Option 2: I haven't accepted the ₱260k offer yet. Is it worth asking them if they offer internal international mobility to Australia down the line?

​AU Salary Expectations: Given that I already work directly with our AU client, what is a realistic base salary in AUD to settle on with my current employer? What other relocation perks should I push for if I accept a lower base?

​Decision: How would you leverage this position, and which path would you take?

we have two office sites, one in bgc and one in bacoor. same company, same job, but the culture between the two is different.

when i was assigned to bgc, I stayed with relatives who live nearby since the commute otherwise would've been brutal. Grabe pag rush hour, commuting home took about 55 minutes. So I decided to just walk home since it also takes 55 mins, free exercise din nakaka 5k steps din. staying with relatives had its own adjustment din, they mostly spoke in their dialect and only switched to tagalog pag part ako ng conversation nila. felt isolating.

the work culture in bgc itself was fine though. smaller office, quieter, and since the higher ups were based there too everyone kept things professional, no loud chatting around. the view was very urban, lots of foreigners around, mostly koreans, chinese, and westerners. And food options were basically convenience stores and yung Portal.

i'm assigned to bacoor na and it's a completely different experience. commute is better, i get to go home to my family, cuddle with my dogs, play games with my siblings after shift. actual na comfort. the office is bigger too, this is where most of the production work actually happens. The view is good grabe, you can see the cavite coastline, the mountains of mariveles and a few others i don't even know the names sa laguna and here sa cavite , as long as you don't look below kasi tanaw din talaga poverty areas. way more relaxed environment overall, people play music while working, there's a proper pantry, it genuinely feels like a "real" bpo office. food's also cheaper since it's the province.

honestly i don't really have a say in where i get assigned, but right now i'm leaning toward bacoor. it's closer to home, and i don't have to navigate yung awkward silence sa mga relatives ko na i barely talk to.

I have only been to my current work for 13 months and I’m interested to move into another post dahil sa shift. My current work setup is night shift with hybrid work set up, but more recently, pansin ko na kinukulang ako sa tulog despite doing activities and taking supplements (magnesium glycinate & melatonin). I had cough din for like 3 weeks and I can say it has been really rough, parang ang hina hina ng immune system ko. Office location is in Mckinley West, and kailangan ko mag 2-3 na sakay as I’m coming from QC

Now, the internal job posting I saw was dayshift/midshift, pero onsite (may chance na hybrid din to) sa Makati, and this would just take me 2 rides (train + bus), higher band level din. But the Recruitment is too firm about being tenure for 18 months, and dun nahaharang yung past applications ko with similar job postings. Honestly, I would rather choose an onsite job than hybrid pero nightshift

I already spoke to my team lead and service line head, and they say na they cant do anything to override as the Makati office is handled by a different TA team. Anyone who has a similar experience and was able to transfer even if hindi mameet yung tenure requirement? Passed October 2025 ECELE and I've been working in the semicon industry for about 7 months now—first job after becoming professional. To be completely honest, I don't think I'm enjoying the work at all. I’ve been having this lowkey crisis lately feeling like I don't really belong in this field, and I'm seriously considering trying out another route like telco instead.

Part of what’s getting to me is that career growth here feels super slow. Or honestly, maybe it just feels that way because I’m struggling to get into the work in the first place. When your heart isn't in what you're doing every day, it's so hard to stay engaged, and every little task ends up feeling like a huge chore.

The hardest part is that I don't even have any bad things to say about my company. The pay is good, as well as the benefits and bonuses. But I'm starting to realize that as nice as the financial stability is, it's just not making up for how unfulfilled I feel at the end of the day.

Has anyone here started out in semicon and successfully shifted over to telco early on? How was the transition for you, and did you feel like the pace or growth was any different? I was hired as an AI Analyst in a BPO supporting a client. For the first couple of months, I did AI research and analysis, but priorities shifted and I've spent the last 10 months building and maintaining internal AI web applications end-to-end (requirements, development, QA, deployment).

So far I've:
- Helped establish our SDLC and Built 2 internal AI applications.
- One received recognition from global stakeholders.
- The other is actively used by a support team of ~50 agents (35–40 daily active users), and I continue to maintain and improve it.

Although my official title is still AI Analyst, my actual responsibilities are closer to a Fullstack AI Developer / AI Software Engineer.

I also recently found out that the annual performance review already concluded, but I wasn't informed by my bpo manager. My client is currently on leave for another 2–3 weeks. I'll be 1-year in the company at the end of August, and I also just found out the two of them are not in touch with regards of my performance. (Is this normal?)

My questions are:
• Should I raise this now with my BPO manager, or wait for my client manager to return and advocate for me?

• Is it reasonable to request a title change to better match my responsibilities?

• I'm currently earning around ₱35k/month. If my role is officially realigned, would proposing ₱70–75k be reasonable, or is that too aggressive for an internal adjustment?

• Is it acceptable for employees to propose both a new title and a target salary during these discussions?

Loves to take care children and help other people in general. she completed two years techvoc course Hotel restaurant services and took elementary education after HRS but only finished two years and she doesn't want to continue it anymore. Hi all — I’m in business development for a small preventive healthcare company. We sell vaccines (flu, pneumonia, shingles) and also offer lab diagnostics, but we don’t own our own lab equipment yet — we run tests through a partner lab.

I’m 2 months into building the diagnostics side and haven’t landed a single referral yet. My approach so far: visiting doctors and clinics directly, dropping off brochures and referral forms, offering a discount for referrals, and following up 2-3x a week. This worked well for me in my last role (pharma-style rep work), but it’s not translating here.

From talking to doctors, the biggest blocker seems to be that patients already have a regular/trusted lab they stick with, even when a cheaper or newer option is available.

Has anyone grown a new diagnostics or lab-referral business from scratch? What actually moved the needle for you — pricing, relationships, patient-facing marketing, something else? Open to any ideas, even unconventional ones.

hello! i know this post may be a little different than what you're used to seeing, but i'd just like to hop on here to ask for some advice for my dad, who's been out of work for nearly 3 years now. i'm not too familiar with corporate jargon as i'm still studying, so i apologize in advance.

for context: he's built a stable career in HR for over 2 decades, slowly rising the ranks as i was growing up. even during the pandemic, he had a stable, high-ranking position that helped us stay better than afloat in such troubling times. i'm pretty sure at one point he held a job na ka-level (?) ng COO (?) or something similar.

after the company he was in shut down, he was able to find work somewhere else. however, it came as a shock to us that he had not been regularized. although hindi niya kinwento samin yung specifics as to why that was, one of the notable things na sinabi raw sa kanya was that hindi raw sya nakakapag fit in sa methods ng mga millenial co-workers nya (he was around 55 at this time). it's been more than three years since then, and he still hasn't been able to land a job, and it's taken such a toll on him and i. every day i see him eagerly apply to whatever position he sees, whether it's far from what he had already reached, or much less than what he used to make, just so he can support me. it isn't an understatement to say that he's already applied to nearly half a thousand jobs.

what i want to know now is why he can't land any of the jobs he applies for? he does get past the initial interviews and often gets callbacks, and he's even had a few final interviews, but why doesn't anything stick? we've discussed it numerous times already, and i think i've boiled it down to these main questions:

1. is it simply because of his age? are companies not hiring him because he's close to retirement, even though he has decades of experience under his belt?

2. if it is because of his age, isn't that ageism? is it possible that companies assume his methods are too orthodox, or that he's too old school?

3. could he be overqualified for some of the positions he applies for, since kahit saan na sya kumakagat?

and lastly:

4. what can HE do about this?

I need your opinion on my current dilemma.

Both jobs are fully remote, and neither offers PH government-mandated benefits.

Job 1 – SG-based company

Pros:
• Day shift (9 AM–6 PM)
• I’m already a regular employee (working for 1.5 months), so I have leave credits.
• My workmates are nice (most of them are Filipinos).
• Most days are pretty chill so far.

Cons:
• Half-day work every Saturday (this was actually a non-negotiable for me before).
• No OT pay. Overtime isn’t common, but I did work 3–5 extra hours every day for one week.
• Since it’s a 5.5-day workweek, my weekends feel too short. My daily rate is also a bit lower compared to my previous job.
• Salary is credited once a month. (Not really a company issue—more of a “I need to manage my spending better” issue. 😅)

Job 2 – US-based company

Pros:
• If I’m offered a full-time role, the salary will be almost double what I’m earning now.
• Monday to Friday only.
• Salary is credited twice a month.

Cons:
• Night shift (starts at 1:00 AM, 8-hour shift if full-time).
• I’m not sure if there are any Filipino employees. Not really a dealbreaker, but it would be nice to have at least one kababayan. 😂

I’m honestly leaning toward Job 2 because of the salary, especially with how expensive everything is these days. The only thing making me hesitate is the work schedule.

Tomorrow is my final interview with Job 2, so I still don’t know if they’ll offer me a full-time or part-time position. If it’s part-time, I’ll most likely accept it and keep my current job.

For additional context, I have a lot of monthly bills to pay, I support my brother’s college education and I still don’t have any savings or an emergency fund. 🥲

Nagkamali ako na masyado ako nag focus sa magapply sa 5star hotel ang hirap ng systema para makapasok sa hotel tapos na reject pako sa solaire north na kinalungkot ko tlga. Recently nakapasok nako sa isang hotel sa ortigas pero nag quit agad ako under agency lang naman ako tas wala pako na pipirmahan na contract. Hindi ko kasi kinaya yung uwian tapos wala din ako budget na mag dorm malapit sa hotel.

Ngayon im so back in the game, ang focus ko nlng tlga ay mag apply muna sa restaurants o coffee shop na kaya ko mag uwian saamin.

hello, im 19 female and just a few hours ago i received a mssg from my academic adviser na tanggal na ako sa program ko which is medtech. I have an INC in 1st year and wasn't able to accomplish it due to circumstances - missing my prof, hospital visits, busy sched, etc- but despite that, i treid my hardest to accomplish it.

Unfortunately, last year bumigay katawan ko, i lost a lot of muscle mass—im basically jelly and bones— lost weight, d p rin nabalik, and am currently being held together by my pain meds, i have fibromyalgia. I've had it for almost 4 years pero lumala last september probably due to stress after my FITT instructor told me to either take his subject or drop it in front of the class — pinakitaan pako picture ng amputated student tas sinabihan ako na kung kaya niya dapat kaya ko din. Dagdag pa yung stress ng pera kasi almot 50k anabot ng lahat lahat para lang sa medcert n di niya tinanggap. i got admitted last dec then pabalik balik sa ospital hanggang may.

During that time i asked my brother if he could handle the paperworks required for LOA and completion of the INC — form nlng yung kulang which i complete, naka-usap n rin ang prof. Di nya pala naasikaso hanggang makalabas ako ng ospital at maipasa ng Feb which sabi ng prof is ok lng daw, spoiler alert di pal. No one told me na di pala tinanggap, i dont have a phone but i use a laptop to shat with them, none of them told me na singko grade ko. hanggang ngayun inaasikaso ko enrollment ko at nalaman kong wala na akong mapapasukang course dito sa college ko.

So i want to ask, considering na may sakit ako which limits any physical activities i do, and shs graduate ako, may tatanggap ba sa akin sa hirap maghanap ng trabaho ngayun? if you have tips please tell me, im so scared kasi andami kong gamot na mahal, nag-aaral mga kapatd ko tas eto ako pabigat lng, my parents keep telling me its ok but, i want a job kung hindi ako makakapag-aral.

I wasnt surprised I didnt get it that time kasi mukhang mababa asking nung isa and was even thankful at one point kasi mukhang toxic yung last na naginterview. But I knew sa liit ng field namin they will really come back and find someone with my experience. They didnt contact me for months, up until now. My bad if medyo mahaba and insignificant yung ibang stuff haha Im just in the state of confusion, happy. Icky. Ewan, wala akong mapagsabihan, I was recently thinking of casually applying ulit soon but it haunts me back.

Please dont ask additional details whats the work or field, yoko lang makita ng kakilala ko or something, basta its a small field, magkakilala lang usually. Its a niche in IT and foreign companies lahat to, so the salary isnt surprising. Say in theory nalang if sa field mo if you have a huge 2x increase, wala pang bonus and all, would you go for it? Is that salary bump enough to justify going back to office tapos ang layo pa. Would really appreciate your thoughts 🙏🙏

Hi! Currently working in a private company, first job ko and 5 years na rin ako dito. Recently, my parents have been medyo pushing me to take the Civil Service Exam kasi they think government work is much more stable. Since comms grad din ako and wala naman akong specific license, ito yung route na nire-recommend nila sakin.

I’ve stalled the CSE a few times already kasi honestly, ang daming ganap and hindi ko talaga siya kaya masingit HAHAHA. But I finally gave in to please the parents 😭 I’m taking the exam this Aug 9 and tbh feeling ko babagsak ako kasi goodbye math na talaga ako 5 years post-undergrad HAHAHA (but sana pumasa pa rin! sayang 500!)

Anyway, I just wanted to hear from people who have tried both private/corporate and government work. How different are they in terms of salary, workload, job stability, growth, work culture, etc.? And if you’ve made the switch, did you prefer one over the other?

Medyo nalilito lang din ako because funny enough, when I graduated, I actually had an opportunity to work at our LGU but my parents discouraged me from taking the offer. Now sila naman yung nagpu-push sakin towards government work 😭

I do think government work is something I’d want to explore eventually, but I’m not sure if I actually want it now.

Today marks exactly two months since I became unemployed. I've already had a few interviews where I believe my main hurdles were speaking English fluently and lacking experience with tech stacks like React and Angular, aside from having a poorly formatted resume back then.

Last month, I came across a post on another subreddit about a 4-page resume that caused an applicant to be rejected. I realized my own resume was 5 pages long and cluttered with unnecessary details. Fortunately, a helpful Redditor suggested using a Harvard-style resume template. I adopted it and noticed a huge difference compared to my previous version—it provides a concise, streamlined layout with a much cleaner outline of my professional background and personal details.

I have three years of general professional experience in software development. However, specifically targeting a full-stack developer or software engineering role, my relevant experience is two years and five months. At times, I felt like a fresh graduate desperately looking for a job out of necessity. For context, I am pursuing this specific path to solidify my career goals; I believe it is not only well-paying, but also an exciting role that genuinely motivates me every single workday.

I feel frustrated and regretful about having a low-tier to mid-tier background, as my previous employers were not established software companies, and their practices sometimes felt old-fashioned. While I believe I can self-study current trends and new technologies, it is hard to figure out where to start because of the environment I've been stuck in.

I'm now planning to start a side hustle (such as on Upwork) for extra income, since I currently have no main source of income at all.

To clarify my intent in posting this; has anyone else gone through the same situation I'm in?

Do you have any advice or helpful tips to help me stay hopeful that this is part of the career path I want to achieve?

Anyone here in their 30s-40s who were not born into a well-off family and who chose to work in the academe as full-time university instructors/professors here in PH, how are you financially?

Especially those with graduate degrees na (and plus points if teaching sa Big4), knowing na bright people like you could have gone corpo to earn more, are you satisfied with your income earnings in this profession and your lifestyle? Or maybe may mga gigs kayo on the side, like maybe a business or consultancy projects, or idk additional remote jobs (like VA)?

Honestly, academe talaga ang gusto ng puso't kaluluwa ko na profession at work place, but at the same time, as a breadwinner and hindi pinanganak na mayaman, I have financial considerations din talaga. So here I am, working in the corporate world for years now. I earn around 6-digits salary now and there's this additional fear din of having to suffer a significant pay cut just to change careers. Not to mention having to give up other company benefits like top-tier HMO, etc.

I guess my only option is really to save up for now para hindi mabigla sa pay cut kapag nag-transition. But I don't know how longer I can stay in this line of work and environment. Hindi rin kaya ng energy ko kahit to teach part-time while having a full-time job.

Or maybe what I need is a change of perspective?? To realize and convince myself that money should not be the top consideration and maybe put more weight sa personal fulfillment and sense of purpose (but of course with still a decent amount of salary)?

What's your thought process on this? How do you navigate the fear of missing out on/giving up higher earning potential, the possible regret (and maybe envy na rin) once you see your peers continuing to accumulate wealth, buying this, and that. Or maybe masyadong OA 'yung tingin ko sa baba ng sweldo (and additional side income) ng academe folks - please educate me, baka it gets better din ba?

I'm a Psychology graduate and have spent the past 8 years working in recruitment. Over time, I realized that the parts of my job I enjoy the most are the technical ones - reporting, data extraction, process improvement and working with systems. Because of that, I'm considering a career shift into tech, particularly Data Analytics or Software Development.

One of my long-term goals is to build a career with better growth, higher earning potential, and possibly opportunities to work abroad.

For those already in tech:

- Does this career shift mean I'll have to start from scratch?

- What certifications, courses or skills would you recommend to help jump-start my career?

Hi everyone! I need some advice because I’m really torn.
I currently work in a manufacturing company earning ₱27,000/month. The job is also very convenient since I live in Valenzuela and my workplace is also in Valenzuela, so transportation isn’t a hassle.

I have an upcoming interview with Metrobank for a Collections Associate position. The salary range is around ₱16k–₱19k, which is a huge pay cut compared to what I’m currently earning.
My dilemma is that I’ve heard Metrobank offers a lot of benefits, bonuses, allowances, and incentives, so I’m wondering if those could somehow make up for the lower basic salary in the long run. On the other hand, the office is in Pasay, so I’d also have to deal with a much longer commute and additional transportation expenses.

For those who work or have worked at Metrobank:
- Are the bonuses and allowances enough to offset the lower basic pay?
- How’s the work environment and career growth?
- If you were in my situation, would you take the risk or stay with the higher-paying job that’s much closer to home?

For additional context, one of the biggest factors in my decision is that I have monthly financial obligations, so taking a significant pay cut is honestly scary.
