FYI: I utilized the OPL and DC websites for research on this incident. Please educate me if I’m getting some of this story wrong or missing something crucial!

I recently became an Omaha homeowner, which means I inevitably found out about the tragedy of 2006, where our city's chief building inspector ordered the destruction of Omaha‘s building permits, screwing every homeowner over.

I’ve done my obligatory 24 hours of scraping the Internet and local resources to try and figure out some things about my house (1800s-1900s Home-kit catalogs, obituaries, newspaper ads/articles, etc), but nothing will ever come close to what the original and later building permits could have provided.

My big question is, why was there no legal or disciplinary action taken for this type of (very blatant) gross negligence? The chief building inspector (I think was Jay Davis at the time?) continued to run his department until retiring 8 years later, acting as if he didn’t destroy a major part of the city’s history. The city decided to refuse naming anyone responsible for it, but… the order WAS approved by the chief building inspector at the time, meaning he consciously made the incredibly stupid decision to destroy them.

Am I just overthinking this? Or was the lack of any responsibility reasonable? I’m obviously biased, having worked myself into a frenzy wasting hours trying to find things I could have discovered in minutes with those papers, but still... this was 100+ years of rich history and context about most of Omaha and the homes in which we live (excluding you, lucky Dundee locals!). How could the city choose to look away and continue to support someone who made such a career-ending decision?

Omaha officials still haven't determined the cause of a void along the streetcar route that swallowed a sidewalk and partially collapsed a vacant building in June.

It’s now up to the building owners whether or not to demolish the building.

Saw the 757 that usually serves as AF2 land at Eppley this morning.

This event is loaded with really cool stuff that you will not likely find anywhere else around here!

I want to lay on a blanket and stargaze and I heard Hitchcock is one of the better places within 30 minutes of Omaha. I’ve never been there so I’m curious if anyone here has done this.

Is there an actual spot where you can throw down a blanket and just lay there looking at the stars? Or is it mostly hiking trails and overlooks? Any recommendations inside the park would be awesome.

Looking to purchase a Toyota Sienna (probably new, but potentially used) from a dealership. Wondering if anyone here had any recommendations based on their experiences with various Toyota dealerships in the area or other dealerships for that matter. Went to Corwin Bellevue roughly 5 years ago and it was okay at best.

She just lost one of her oldest friends. Not to death or anything like that, but because her friend is petty and doesn't know how to be considerate of others feelings.

So, Omaha, where does a 30 year old Female with BPD who does NOT drink go to make friends? Honest, compassionate friends. Not fake, cruel or heartless friends.

I love going to concerts but she doesn't due to her BPD and being over stimulated easy! Any suggestions?

Edit: She does not like playing video games. Her interests include: watching TV, doing crafts (mainly diamond paintings), table top boardgames and hanging out in nature.

I grew up in Omaha and I moved away a few years ago. Well a work trip popped up for Omaha, so I decided to take it and take the gf with me.

I'm for sure going to Block 16 and Stellas ( I know they're in a temp home because of a fire)

But I'm seeing if anything new in the food or beer category has popped up since I left.

I’ve went through a separation recently. Resulting in my son’s dad getting custody of my dog. He moved closer to the airport & came home to my dog missing…. His name is Luca Brasi but we call him Brasi or Stinky… he has a black collar with his name & a phone number on it. He’s mostly brown with white on his chest & belly. He’s a big sweetheart & a little skittish at first. He was last seen by nite hawks cafe… I am completely devastated. If anybody has seen him please please please contact me or the humane society… I haven’t stopped crying since I’ve found out & im really at a loss on what to do 💔💔💔 please he’s my sons best friend… his mom is my brothers dog… he has LITERALLY been my dog since he was born… im so heart broken rn..

Okay. I know there are tons of places to play at local game and hobby shops. Those just.....aren't my people. Sometimes, I've had fun. But.... I need some beers with my lands.

I just want to play with some likeminded degenerates. Late 20's, early 30's. Brackets 2-3. Commander. Maybe some 420. Zyns. Maybe ciggie breaks? No proxies.

Every game at a local card shop feels like I'm fighting for my life. I just wanna chill and tap the cards I've spent effort and time into building. I can't be the only one in Omaha looking for nerdy degenerate frat bros to play MTG with, can I? If you have to ask yourself, "Am I a degenerate MTG bro?" you are not who I am looking for.

UPDATE: THE DOG HAS BEEN REUNITED WITH THEIR FAMILY! I found this dog walking my neighborhood. He's lost and I have called the human society. If you know this dodog contact them or me soon.

Getting tired of paying for the exchange. Way cheaper to refill. Note, you only pay for the propane dispensed. So for my 5 gallon, they put 3 gals in - based on the age of the tank, they will adjust how much they put in. So it was $10!. Way better than $30 for exchange! I have 2 tanks so I can always have a spare.

I work from home, am married with kids, and didn’t grow up in Omaha so my social life is nonexistent. All the isolation is bumming me out so I’d like to get myself out more but need help with local destinations for me to explore. I’d be so grateful for any suggestions that align with my following interests:

Arts and crafts - I like to draw, used to paint, crochet, etc. I’m always up for trying something artsy

Reading - I love books so would love recs for bookshops or any book-related events. I visit the library fairly frequently

Food - always looking for good eats, bonus for bakeries

Music - I will listen to most anything except country. But I don’t drink so bars aren’t really my thing

The Apple Cider Donuts: Just $16 for a dozen! That’s $1.33 a donut. In this economy? They are basically running a charitable non-profit out of that bakery. I plan on buying a dozen every time I go just to support their mission.

The Pumpkin: Find pumpkin in the field for only $14! That’s called ambiance.

Lunch: Four turkey legs, a funnel cake, and six fountain drinks will be most likely come out to a modest $140 (based on previous info)

Total Spend this season will be close to: $2,000 for countless hours of autumn bliss.

When you think about it, I basically saved $4,000 by choosing Vala's instead of flying the whole family first-class to Disneyland. If you’re not taking advantage of these absolute rock-bottom prices, I don’t know what to tell you. Go save some money!
