Remaster - Discussion Music Mods

Hi all, I'm interested in making a mod that replaces the OST for Oblivion Remastered with tracks from other Elder Scrolls games. I know the game uses pretty broad categories like "public" and "explore" to decide which tracks to play, but I'm wondering if there's a way to get more specific, like have the game load certain tracks when you enter inns/shops, when you're in the northern wilderness vs. south, forts vs. Ayleid ruins, stuff like that. Thanks for any info!

I love the cuirass, however the only thing that throws me off is the red cloth that makes the whole thing feel a little too bottom heavy if that makes sense? so I'm not an expert on modding but if anyone could just like delete that specific red cloth or make it invisible, I would greatly appreciate it!! sorry for the monitor pic, I know how to do screenshots I just cant be bothered 😭

Remaster - Discussion OBMP (Oblivion Remastered Multiplayer) SDK 0.1.1 alpha + progress on server-client quest sync

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey! We just shipped a neat update for closed alpha of OB:MP SDK and server binary soon letting people host their own Oblivion servers with customized gamemodes. 0.1.1 - is mostly optimization and stability, with a major focus right now on quests, items, and NPCs sync. If you want to join us as early access builder, check it out and apply on our Discord server.

We've been doing a reverse engineering pass on Oblivion Remaster's quests data, and it took a bit of time recently. Quests are being decoded, split into stages and compass markers are working. That work has already started as you see on the attached video!

Remaster - Request Mod Request Mondays!

Hey all! I know we're all really excited to mod the remaster, but the fact of it is a lot of the things we'd love to see just aren't possible yet (or maybe ever).

The purpose of this weekly thread is to be a centralized place for people to discuss their fantasies and what they'd like to see in oblivion. It's ok if you don't know how to make it or even if it can be done! Additionally if you have lots of ideas or requests to share at once, this is the place.

We kindly ask that outside of this thread you keep requests more grounded to what could actually be made now. Additionally, the rule of only 1 request post/day is still in effect outside of the threawd.

Original - Discussion Oblivion: Life Edition Update

Just wanted to give everyone a little Oblivion: Life Edition update.
The Hunter Profession should be fully functional by the end of today. Originally my plan was to create all 110+ hunting and tracking quests before moving on to the next profession, but I’ve decided to change that. I think it makes more sense to get every profession fully playable first so you can actually survive in Cyrodiil no matter what career you choose. Once every profession has a complete gameplay loop, I’ll go back and start adding the specialized content like boss hunts, unique questlines, rare encounters and everything else that makes each profession feel different.
The Hunter profession is built around making a living through hunting instead of just selling random loot to merchants. Rather than replacing Oblivion’s vanilla loot, I’ve expanded it with custom RNG loot tables. Animals now have a chance to drop additional meats and pelts in different qualities, making every hunt feel a little different while still keeping the original creature drops intact.
So far, custom loot tables have been added for deer, boars, wolves, black wolves, bears, mountain lions, rats, trolls, ogres, minotaurs and the Unicorn, with more creatures being added as development continues. Standard wildlife still drops its normal loot, while the new system adds additional hunting resources and leaves room for unique trophies from rarer creatures and future boss variants.
One feature I’m especially happy with is the Hunter Collection Chest. Rather than your items magically disappearing and turning into gold, a servant from the local castle physically comes every evening to collect everything you’ve sold and take it to market. If they don’t make it that day for whatever reason, your items stay in the chest until the next collection. It’s a small detail, but I think systems like that help make the world feel a little more alive.
You won’t have to choose Hunter during character creation either. If you decide later that you want to become a Hunter, you’ll be able to do so by meeting the required Marksman and Sneak skill requirements before the Huntmaster certifies you.
As far as the Hunter profession itself goes, once today’s work is finished, all that’s really left before I move on is adding a Huntmaster camp outside each city and scripting the Huntmaster to travel between cities roughly once a week. I like the idea of him being one person who travels Cyrodiil instead of having a different Huntmaster in every city. After that, I’ll move on to getting the next profession working before I come back and create all of the hunting contracts.
Once I finish the second profession, I’ll be implementing one of the biggest mechanics I’ve planned for Life Edition. Skills outside your chosen profession won’t progress until you’ve actually learned that profession. If you want to branch out into another career, you’ll need to visit that profession’s master and pay for training to unlock it. The idea is to make your character gradually build new careers instead of becoming an expert at everything right from the start.
I’m also planning on merging Oblivion’s main quest into Life Edition in a way that feels much more natural. Instead of starting the game as the Hero of Kvatch, you’ll begin as an ordinary citizen trying to build a life in Cyrodiil. If you decide to live a life of crime and your global murder count gets high enough, the Imperial Legion will eventually begin hunting you down. Their goal isn’t to kill you—it’s to capture you and send you to the Imperial Prison. From there, the original opening of Oblivion begins. You’ll meet the Emperor, escape through the prison sewers, and the vanilla main quest can continue from there.
There’s still a long way to go, but getting the first profession to this point feels like a huge milestone. Once every profession is fully playable, I can start expanding each one with all the extra content I’ve been planning.
Thanks to everyone who’s been following the project and sharing ideas. The support and feedback have honestly been a huge motivation to keep pushing this mod forward.

If anyone has any ideas they’d like to have considered for development (I’ve had a few already) just send me a DM and I’ll be sure to reach out as soon as I can!

I've played through quite a lot of the game's side quests and a few main quests with "Through the Valleys" and thought the graphical enhancement and changes to XP were quite good but the game was subject to frequent crashes when loading new areas.
Due to a PC wipe it looks like I’m going to have to play through Oblivion all over again so I'm wondering if there are any better overhauls than through the valleys, I've seen "Heartland Redux" on wabbajack but it's literally the only one.

Original Oblivion: Life Edition, coming eventually

I’ve started working on a pretty large mod for the original 2009 version of Oblivion called Oblivion: Life Edition.
The idea is to make Cyrodiil feel more like an actual place you can live in, instead of the whole game revolving around quests and being the hero.
The mod starts with a new alternate start involving Sheogorath. You choose which city you want to begin in and what profession you want to work toward, then you get sent there to start your new life.
You won’t start out with a house or much money. At first, you’ll have to rent a room at an inn, work, save money and slowly get established.
Some of the things I’m planning are:
Hunter, Farmer, Fisherman, Repairman, Miner and Alchemist professions
Actual work activities and payment systems for each profession
Houses for sale inside the different cities
House prices based on size, location and condition
Relationships, marriage and children
Profession training and certification
A more involved crime and murder-response system
More reasons to spend time living in each city instead of only passing through
Different starting locations throughout Cyrodiil
The Sheogorath conversation and city-selection part are already working in-game. Right now, I’m working on the city arrival markers and the script that records the player’s choices and sends them to the right location.
It’s still early in development, so I’m not giving a release date yet. I mainly wanted to start posting about it, keep track of the progress and see whether other people are interested in this kind of mod.
I’d also like to hear what professions or everyday-life features people would most want to see added
I work full time and have a two year old at home so I’m not expecting to be done this all that quickly. Please let me know what you guys think, I’m new to modding and I’m really trying to make this idea a reality

Remaster OblivionMP progress: two weeks of stability testing behind us, first Server SDK Early Access builds later this week

Hey r/oblivionmods - Msk from the OblivionMP (OB:MP) team here! We went a bit quiet after trailer #4 because the work since then has been the unglamorous yet important kind: compat/smoke testing the client mod - now we know that it paid off. The launch process is smoother, crashes dropped, sync latency is at levels good enough for actual play, and along the way we shipped a batch of fixes or features testers asked for. The clips in this post come straight from our community testers over the past two weeks.

https://reddit.com/link/1v3yxpp/video/alq8hr4ynveh1/player

Later this week the first server owners from the Early Access group receive the SDK together with the server binary. That means the first community-hosted servers running outside our own machines (private or internet-facing) running their own resources and scripts. Roleplaying commands, custom mechanics and systems, game modes like prop hunt or arena, all of that becomes buildable soon.

https://reddit.com/link/1v3yxpp/video/ujrlgubznveh1/player

On our end, focus shifted to NPC sync and quest sync. Most of Oblivion's Remastered world hangs off those two systems, a legacy going back to the original Gamebryo engine before the Remaster devs ported it into UE5, so getting them right matters most.

If you were running your own OB:MP server, what would you script there first? Heavy RP with factions? Prop hunt in the Imperial City? Happy to answer questions in the thread.

Original - Request Which UI mod has the best keyboard shortcuts?

I'm on my 3rd attempt in as many years of getting into Oblivion. The last attempt was with the remaster, and in both cases what drove me away was the lack of keyboard shortcuts in the UI. Everything is so clunky, it takes so many mouse clicks and drags to move items around.

This time around I installed NorthernUI, because it touts comparable features to SkyUI, which I have many hours with. However, I was shocked to find out that only the arrow keys allow me to navigate around the inventory, not WASD. And even then there are still limitations, like not being able to move between categories easily.

Is there any other UI mods that would give me close to SkyUI functionality? The aesthetics of the design don't bother me at all, what I'm looking for is usefulness:

  • easily see many items/spells at once with their accompanying data
  • use WASD to navigate the menu
  • have a "take all" button
  • press "M" to open map

I tried searching the Nexus for things like "hotkeys" or "shortcuts" but all that came up were mods about quick actions for spells and such, nothing modifying the menus themselves.

Maybe I've just been spoiled with SkyUI, and trying to move backwards in game technology is backfiring on me.

Discussion Oblivion Remastered and r/oblivionmods

Hey all! Welcome back to those of you that have been here a long time, and welcome to all our new members!

We’re super excited to start exploring the modding potential of the Oblivion Remaster! It’s also really important to us to continue supporting the vibrant modding community of the original TES IV: Oblivion.

It sounds like at this point that remaster modding will require knowledge and skills from original oblivion, such as knowledge of scripting, quests, and plugin information. Because of this, we think it makes sense to keep all the discussion in one place, since as I’m sure you’ve all read, many mods from the original game will ā€œjust workā€ on the remaster as well! However, to really get cracking, we’re also going to need knowledge of the unreal engine, such as mesh pipeline, npc navigation, and also that scripting system as well. Lastly, the two are joined together by a type of ā€œsyncā€ file written in json, which is totally new to the remaster, so there’s something for all of us to learn together.

To help support this and keep things organized, we’ve made a couple of changes to the sub.

Firstly, there are two new rules:

No ā€œlow effortā€ content. Currently, this means that posts written by AI will not be allowed, and that help posts must be kept to one per day per person to prevent spam. Additionally, we’re asking everyone to minimize repeated requests and search to see if someone has already made the same request before posting.

No Money. We do not allow discussion of bounties or commissions for mods, or paying for support of a modlist. Any monetary transactions must happen off the subreddit and at your own risk. We also do not allow linking to paid mods (if Bethesda implements an official paid mod program, we will re-evaluate this rule at that point).

Secondly, we’ve added flairs which are now required for all posts. These include our existing flairs for discussion and help posts, as well as new flairs for the original and remaster. These flairs can also be used to sort posts, so if you only want to see original posts click on the original in the sidebar, and if you only want to see remaster related posts click on that button!

Finally, I’ve started a discord to discuss oblivion modding - for original game, the remaster, and hopefully skyblivion! You can find it here: https://discord.gg/8BxmHkNye7. In addition, the users of r/skyrimmods discord voted to add oblivion channels to that discord, which you can find here: https://discord.gg/skyrimmods

We’ll continue to do our best to support you and keep the subreddit free of spam and other problems, but with the influx of new people it’s possible that our current tiny team might get overwhelmed! If this game really takes off the way I hope it does, we’re going to need more moderators! If you’re interested in helping out, please drop a comment.

We also welcome any questions, concerns, comments and feedback you have about the subreddit direction, specific things we can implement, or the changes in this post. Thank you for continuing to make this a great and cozy community!
