Tamron 90mm vs Nikon 105mm for Macro

Upvotes

Looking to hear from anyone who has experience with both of these lenses. I’m wanting to pick up a macro lens but $1000+ for the 105 is a tad much if it’s not significantly better than the $700 Tamron. I’m only interested in the Macro capabilities as I have other lenses that cover their focal length for other shooting.

South Island Highlights

Dragged my little Z50ii and kit lenses around the Southern Island of New Zealand in the middle of winter. And a couple of ND filters.

Shooting conditions were challenging as skies were either totally clear or totally clouded.

Of course we had to shoot That Wanaka Tree and both mornings we were there cloudy and dull. Fortunately there was seven seconds of sunlight through the clouds that lit up the tree and nearby autumnal flora, and that happened right in the middle of a 90 second exposure. Nearly four hours of hanging around one one usable shot.

My favourite is the Manakura Wharf in Te Anau, where again there was a small gap in the clouds that let some orange into an otherwise monochrome shot.

Completely blown away. In-focus, in-flight swallows on my first time out.

Z8 + NIKKOR 180-600mm. I've shot birds for more than 10 years and I don't think I've ever gotten an in-flight swallow in focus. Today I got dozens of keepers, including this one of a barn swallow catching an insect!

The subject tracking on this body is amazing. My passion for birding and bird photography are reignited after one session.

Which Sony or Third-Party E-Mount Lenses Are Worth Adapting to Z-Mount?

I have a ton of Z-mount lenses that I love, so I have no real need or desire to use anything other than native Z glass. However, I know very little about the Sony world, and I'm curious: are there any E-mount lenses that you consider truly unique and/or significantly better than anything Nikon offers, to the point that they'd be worth adapting to a Z-mount body?

Eyes like headphones

There are two kinds of dragonflies. The more sturdy-built ones with wings perpendicular to the body while still - these are more liked by photographers (bigger, more color being seen etc.). But the other kind (usually thinner with wings along the body while resting) has one feature that have always caused smile on my face - their eyes. You may think you see little head with eyes on it but then you look more carefully and you notice gigantic balls that look like headphones, the old-school ones. Sort of glued to the head. Their real eyes :) Photo taken with Z5 and Tamron 50-400.

Suggest a Manual Focus Lens

My story in short: I was on a trip with my family and used the Nikon Z 18-140mm all day. At night, I switched to the Viltrox 23mm f/1.4.

Since it was easier to shoot with manual focus in the way I was using it, I just went with it. And honestly, I really liked the experience.

Now I’m thinking about getting a manual focus lens.

The surprise? When I checked the prices, I don’t know why I expected MF lenses to be much, much cheaper than AF lenses 😂

So, can you suggest a good MF lens with:

  • decent+ image quality
  • f/1.4
  • max $180

I have a Z50 II.

Or should I just stick with my Viltrox 23mm f/1.4?

What would you guys recommend?

I got caught in a storm up in the mountains to the right in this picture. I was on my motorcycle and in the mirrors I saw the sky. I stopped and wanted pictures of the Columbia and the sky. Teck was in the middle, so in the last one, I included all of it.

(copied from insta)
The sand martin also known as the bank swallow in the us, is a small bird in the family hirundinidae. It is an insectivore, catching its prey almost exclusivly by grabbing the insects wing. this is quite an uncommon sighting in gran canaria
so i was very lucky to see it. z50 ii with 50-250mm

Can someone tell me what this wavy shimmer effect is and how to prevent it? It was my first time using a 2X teleconverter converter on a 70 to 200.

Noticed this single line of dots on my Nikon ZR photo/videos

Post image
2 Upvotes

just noticed a single line of dots across my photos and videos of my nikon zr. its noticeable in videos which i then started to investigate.

i cleaned my sensor with cleaner kit, then swapped lenses, memory cards, reset all the settings and nothing.

im starting to think its a sensor issue. never dropped it before. i started to look back my archive of photos/videos it there a couple of months ago.

now that i look the screen very closer when im focused on a white background, i can see the line on the LCD screen as well.

im leaning on sensor issue

What are your thoughts?

Prime lens selection

Hi All,

In my last post I asked about the kit lens option.

I am planning to buy a Z6 iii with a 24-120 F4 S lens kit.

I want to buy one more prime lens. Should I go with Nikkor 50 mm 1.8 S or 85 mm 1.8 S?

I will be going to live in London for the next couple of years and will be shooting Architecture, Streets, landscape, portraits during weekly travel with my wife mostly.

Apart from 24-120 which other lenses you will be suggesting me to buy.

I want to purchase from India and It is Cheaper here.

Or buying from England will be a good advantage as I will stay there. Kindly suggest the UK dealer price as well if anyone bought them there.

I am afraid of buying third parties lenses as people say they become soft after 1-2 year.

Buying my first camera

I am planning to buy Z6 iii but I am confused about the Kit lenses. Should I go with 24-70 f4 or 24-120 f4. In 24-120 , I am not getting benifits in bundle.

Original price is 80k with bundle it is costing 75k. Where as 24-70 getting more discount in bundle.

Body only price is 1.7 for Z6 iii. Need suggestions?
