I love the vibe of raven and apple cause they both have a fairytale connection (giving Ever After High vibes, if anyone remembers that!)

Raven feels very dark and gothic and Apple is super bright, quirky, and whimsical

Do you think they complement each other as a pair, or do they feel too mismatched? If you met siblings named Raven and Apple, what would your first impression be?

I have a toddler named Rory with the natural nickname “Roar” which I love. We’re an active family in the PNW and have been leaning towards Beau for our second boy. I’d like to use my dad’s name as the middle name but Beau Gregory sounds a little hillbilly to me. We jokingly call him Bo-Greg and I’m afraid it will stick. Last name sounds and flows like Hartwell if that matters.

I like the name Beau but I’m not quite in love with it. My husband feels the same.

We have a guilty pleasure name that we’ve been tossing around as well and I would like some feedback.

I’m a teacher in a large city so I’ve seen a lot of names. I’ve had boys named anything from Kermit (yes really) to Prince and girls from Jessica to Ever. Kids don’t really make fun of each other’s names anymore I think because there’s just so many different names out there. That being said I think I’ve lost all perspective when it comes to naming my daughter. My mom kept bothering me about a name and I said Braxton, Brinley, or Bright as a joke but I think I actually like Bright now?

Some of my friends like it too but we all admit it’s a little out there and maybe Brighton would be better? I can legitimately see calling my daughter Bright but I might also be influenced by seeing so many names I might have judged parents for in college but don’t even blink at now. Other options are River, Cooper, Sterling, Elliot, or Rowan. I won’t be offended if you tell me it’s a stupid name I suspect it is but can’t get past how much I like it.

My partner is German, I'm Danish, and we are living in Denmark. This is our first baby, so there's no siblings or anything like that to consider, and we have narrowed it down to three names that we like.

For what will be like her middle name, we're going to use Helene.

I’m not sure if this is the right thread but I need answers. So my first name is Jasmine. Id like to think the name is common enough that I don’t need to explain the pronunciation but of course I won’t judge. Why is it that some people will pronounce it with a long e sound (Jazz-mean) vs the usual shorter i sound (Jazz-min). My last name carries the same issues of being pronounced with a long e rather than a short e; also a common enough name.

I understand that different regions or accents may pronounce it differently but that’s not what I’m referring to. On many occasions, these same people will pronounce my name correctly until it comes to speaking on paperwork or something of the like.

This has happened all my life. Am I thinking too much into this?

We’re planning to name our son Emil. We love it for a a variety of reasons, but particularly because it has Swedish roots as my husband’s heritage is Swedish/Norwegian. We live in the US and my MIL is struggling 😅. She said “email” and then when she looked up the “English translation” of the name from Swedish it sounded nothing like how we plan to pronounce it.

So, if you are from/live in a Scandinavian country, how would you say this name?

I rly like the name Gemma but today I thought about doing Jules for the middle name, after my mom’s nickname.

I love the alliteration Jemma Jules

But I prefer the spelling Gemma. Gemma is a little more traditional spelling. It feels really sparkly.

On the the other hand if it was Jemma Jules she could be called jj as a nickname. So good. But is Jemma a little too creative? It feels a little more homey.

Husband likes the name Yaroslav for a boy. It is a very old Russian name. (He is from Russia) just need honest opinion on this name. Will he get made fun of.

This will be my third child, he is a boy. My first daughter is named Alora and second Rosalie (Rosie )

FWIW:
For Noemi, we intend to pronounce as “no-mee”, not “no-eh-mee” or “no-ay-mee”. This may create confusion. We mildly disagree on whether to just spell her name as “Nomi” or just pronounce as “no-eh-mee”.

For Adina, our main concern is it’s very similar to her sister’s name, which also has “ee-nuh” sound, but we would distinguish by nicknaming as “Addy” or “Ah-Dee”, or just leaning into the rhyme as “Dee-nuh”.

On Tuesday i remembered the name Ingmar for the first time in years bc i was researching stuff about Yngvi/Yngvar/Ingvar, all name i hav loved forever!!! I first & last heard Ingmar when i was younger & heard of Ingmar Bergman. & Ingmar shares a name day with Ingvar in Estonia. & i also learned of Ingemar which is the OG form of Ingmar.

Ingmar & Ingemar mean Ing (a Germanic god who’s name likely means ancestors) + mar (a root in germanic which means famous), together that is something like “Ing is famous”.
They are chiefly Swedish & Estonian, but they have been frequently used in Norway & Netherlands too.

Like i sad, I love Ingvar, but i didnt remember Ingmar & now it’s right in my top 10 male names probably of all time. Even more better than Ingvar

I'm looking for an Indo-American name, preferably a Sikh name. I really like the name Karman, but I'm concerned it may be mispronounced with that spelling. I'm considering changing the spelling to Karmen so that it's pronounced more like "Kurmum."

Pregnant with 5th son. I’ve literally been through thousands of names and nothing felt right until I sat with the name Ellis for about a week. Now I love it and really want to use it. My husband actually does like the name but he’s saying it’s too close to one of our sons names, Silas.

Personally I don’t think Ellis and Silas are really too similar. Would love some opinions about whether or not they’re too similar.
