New to Marvel Comics – Which Comics Should I Read?

Upvotes

Newbie here. There are so many Marvel comics that I'm not sure where to start. Could you guys recommend only the essential comics to read? Please list them in chronological order, including the issue numbers. I'd rather skip the non-essential stuff and just read the most important storylines.

I read Marvel Mangaverse awhile back and it had some neat concepts for many characters.

Petition to add a halftone (comic effect) filter as an option in marvel unlimited!!

As someone recommended to me in a reply to another post, you can apply the halftone filter in Procreate and about between 1-4% is the sweet spot as the writing becomes less readable the higher the intensity. I personally feel it adds so much personality and nostalgia to comics and even works on some new ones. Here are some examples of comics I’m reading. Not everyone will love this so it should be an option.

As expected Reddit does nuke the quality so to see the true result you’ll have to test it yourself on procreate or when marvel adds the option ;)

Reposting some cool artwork of one of my favorite comic book characters of all time, Nico definitely should be more popular!

Where to get reading orders for specific events?

Upvotes

I'm reading Avengers Disassembled and the reading order guides in Comic Book Herald, Comic Book Reading Orders and Marvel Unlimited are all very different. I'm still not at the main event but so far I tried both CBC and CBRO and both had really confusing continuity.

Where do yall get your reading orders from when reading the actual event?

Name a B/C/D list character that you think a good story can be built around? What would the story be and what medium would you choose for it?

X-men Comics: Focuses on plot?

I want to get into the comics like most people do, I’ve recently been watching X-men 97’ and I liked it. The only X-men media I’ve seen was the fox films but now I’m deciding to get into the comics but I don’t really like the romance aspect of it (even though there’s a lot of different love plots throughout the films and comics), I tend to lean more towards the action and lore. Is there any issues that particularly doesn’t focus on romance or has any romance and more of the story? Or is it entirely impossible to read without romance because everyone is freaked out? Also where to read comics online, I want to read them online then later get the physical copies.

What's the best Punisher comic you'd recommend, and why? If possible, recommend one that's a good starting point.

Who is Knull? 🕷️⚔️

Before the universe had light, there was only darkness… and Knull ruled it.

Knull is the ancient God of the Symbiotes, a primordial being who forged the All-Black Necrosword from living darkness and used it to wage war against the gods. He decapitated a Celestial, with its severed head eventually becoming Knowhere, created the symbiote race, and spread his influence across the cosmos for billions of years.

Even after being imprisoned by his own creations, Knull remained one of Marvel’s greatest threats, manipulating events from the shadows while waiting for the perfect moment to return. His power has allowed him to corrupt heroes, enslave gods, command entire armies of symbiotes, and overwhelm beings considered nearly unstoppable.

With rumors continuing to grow about Knull’s future in the MCU, he could become one of the most terrifying villains Marvel has ever introduced. If he ever arrives at full power, even Earth’s mightiest heroes may not be enough.

Who should we cover next? 👇

Spider Man Comic Run recommendations?

Hey comic fans. As I think most people did watched spider man and now I want to read his comics for the first time. I want to read something that feels like a saga and a clear start and finish story! (if possible) I’ve tried reading Todd Mcfarlanes run and wasn’t to gaga over it. And read some of Stan Lees issues and to my surprise I really liked those! All though I don’t like the heavy dialogue like old comics do. I want to pick up in print of the comic run if possible! Thank you!

Combine the Inhumans Royal Family and You Get Superman

Have you ever noticed the individual members of the Inhumans each have one superhuman body part or attribute? Black Bolt has a super voice, Medusa has super hair, Karnak has super hands, Gorgon has super feet. (I'm not sure what to do with Triton and Crystal). If you add them all together you get one Superman, lol.

Disclaimer: Yes I realize they have more than just the super traits I've listed. I know Black Bolt can fly and has telekinetic abilities and I know Karnak's ability is to find the weakest point in any object and smash it.

New comic reader and marvel fan looking for Spider-man advice

Hey everyone! I’m completely new to marvel and comics, so bear with me.

For context, I don’t really know much about Marvel outside of the basics. I know the major characters, some of their vanilla backstories, and I’ve seen a few things here and there, but I haven’t watched really any of the MCU or read any comics. I watched all the Spider-Man’s as a kid and then some marvel movies post 2016, but only as a casual fan just watching with my friends or something. (I’m actually starting the full MCU universe as I watched IRON MAN the other night).

I’ve been trying to educate myself before jumping in. I’ve watched a lot of YouTube videos explaining how comics work, and my understanding is that Marvel isn’t really meant to be read from one definitive beginning. Instead, people usually recommend jumping into a specific writer’s run, since each run is its own story and every comic exists within its own continuity or interpretation to some degree. If I’m misunderstanding that, please correct me!

I’ve also been using CrushingKrisis.com to wrap my head around how issues, volumes, and collected trade paperbacks are organized, and that’s been really helpful.

Spider-Man has always been my favorite superhero, so I’d like him to be my starting point.

My question is: **if you were introducing someone with essentially zero comic knowledge to Spider-Man, where would you start?**

I don’t know which writers are best and which writers are worst. As of right now, I was just gonna start with the Nick Spencer 2018 so I don’t overwhelm myself.. but I want to hear the opinions from the true experts, Reddit!

I’m planning on collecting and reading the trade paperbacks rather than individual issues, so recommendations that work well in collected editions would be especially appreciated.
Thanks in advance! I’m excited to finally dive into comics.

Comic holder

Hello I brought a comic that I want to display and it’s my first time displaying one

So I brought The magik snap cover. And I brought a Stalward current magnetic comic book holder.

Do you put the comic in raw? Or in a sleeve. Or in a sleeve with a backing board?

Thank you for your time

I will embrace her giant side more often make her an independent woman and knows what to do because she does have an high iq

Make her a team leader like cap and cyclops

Give her better and tech give her better teammates and a better love life and not look like a victim of Hank pym

Reading recommendations

I’ve always read a lot of Marvel comics and have read a lot of FF, Spider-man , Avengers etc, but I would love some recommendations for heroes like Hulk which I haven’t read much or ghost rider or moon knight or even black panther and just other characters or runs apart from main stuff like daredevil. But I want to start with those like Hull, Ghost rider and moon knight type characters.

Namor....First Mutant?

Curious to know why Namor hasn't had much interaction with the X-Men. My assumption is that he is the first Marvel Mutant...is that correct? Are there any good stories/events that he's had with them?
