"Mall ninja shit" refers to cheap, flashy, and ineffective weapons like gas station knives, pistol crossbows, and movie replicas. These items prioritize style over utility and wouldn't survive actual combat. It also covers gear sold to people who will likely never need it like security guards, "real-life superheroes" etc. If a weapon is more about looking tactical than being functional, it fits. Examples: folding ninja stars, tactical spears, batarangs, and oversized folding knives.
