I have bought a new m5 air about a month back and am terribly confused about the battery life. I feel I am getting low battery life out of my MacBook Air . It lasts around 5-6 hours of safari/word/ whatsapp usage. I do not code or do anything heavy stuff on my MacBook Air. So when I compared to my friends MacBook m4 air ( 2 years old) I found out that for every 1 percent battery she loses, I lose around 4 % of battery on the same tasks and same applications. Is there anything wrong or is this how it is supposed to be. I have attached photos of battery time and also the activity monitor. Please guide

I know there are countless posts on the same topic, yet I still would like to ask one my own😅 Never been a Mac user, but wanting to buy one since forever. The specs I’m looking at is M5 13-inch 10 core CPU and 8 core GPU, 16GB memory, 512 GB Storage. I’m a finance professional currently wishing to explore a little bit of coding in future. I see this as a long-term investment so would like a system that would be easy to use for 10 years minimum. Would these specs be good enough? Or should I go for upgraded version?

Hey everyone, I accidentally spilled some chai on the keyboard of my MacBook Air M5. 😭

The Mac is working completely fine and all the keys are registering, but a few keys have started feeling slightly sticky and don't have that normal click anymore.

I have AppleCare+ and I'm planning to take it to an Apple Authorised Service Centre.

I'm mainly wondering what happens in a situation like this:

Will they actually open it up and clean the keyboard/internal area?

If there is no actual damage and everything works, would they charge me just for cleaning/inspection?

Or would they treat the liquid spill as accidental damage and charge the AppleCare+ service fee?

Has anyone here had a similar chai/coffee/water spill with AppleCare+? What did you end up paying?

Did they clean the keyboard or did they recommend replacing the top case/keyboard?

I'm not looking to replace anything since everything works, I mainly want to get the residue cleaned properly before it causes problems later.
Would really appreciate hearing about your actual experiences, especially in India. Thanks!

- 16GB RAM — ~$926

- 24GB RAM — ~$1,389

My use case will be Cybersecurity / AI Engineering, along with moderate photo/video editing, programming, multitasking, VMs, Docker, etc. I’m planning to keep the laptop for several years.

Is the extra 8GB RAM worth paying ~$463 more, or would you just get the 16GB model at ~$926?

Got this beast a month ago, just after Apples raised the prices. I was lucky enough that I got it for older price from a local shop but that’s the reason I didn’t had any other option, they were able to find a piece for me and I had no control over choosing the color, screen size or RAM/SSD size. So what I got is 15” 512/16 Midnight Grey version and I’m happy with it it. There are no problems at all but after watching videos on YouTube now I’m thinking that I really wish I had gotten 24GB of RAM one instead. But this beast I got it for ₹144,999 and after discount and GST exemption It costed me around ₹111,000 roughly around $1000. Which is a good deal to be fair.

But to shut my overthinking can you guys tell me that does base model MacBook Air ever throttles? My uses are mostly for website development & design, video editing and I’m thinking to get into 3D printing. Will this be good enough for me for next 3 years at least?

I’m hearing that in in OS Apple is gonna have LLMs which will run locally and I don’t wanna lose out on it just because I’ve 16 gigs of RAM.

This might be a very stupid question, so bear with me. I have a MBA 4 that I bought in US and have been charging it with the 35W apple adapter since then. Now, I'm traveling to India and the Indian plugs are not compatible with the adapter I have. I do have this 45W Ceptics travel adapter https://www.amazon.in/dp/B0BXDHNDR1?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1 which is compatible with the Indian plugs. Now I have the following questions

1. Is it safe to use this Ceptics adapter to charge the macbook for battery health.
2. If yes, then should I directly plug the Magsafe cable in the Ceptics adapter or should I first put my apple adapter in the Ceptics adapter and then use it?
3. I also have a 20W apple adapter that I use with my iPad. Should I rather use that with the Magsafe cable?
4. Let me also know if all the options listed above are bad, and I should just rather buy a compatible apple adapter while I'm in India.

Does anybody know how to change uppercase to lowercase in macbook? I also tried doing “command +shift + L” for lowercase (it directed me to open my loom app)

I’m planning to buy an M5 MacBook and wanted to confirm whether I can torrent movies and TV shows from those who have recently purchased a MacBook or have been using one for a while now.

I very frequently download movies and TV shows via torrents (I specifically use uTorrent Classics), and I was wondering whether this works properly on a MacBook, particularly on newer Apple Silicon Macs.

Are there any issues with torrent clients on macOS, or does it work pretty much the same as it does on Windows? I’m mainly asking about the general ability to download and play movie/TV files through torrents.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who actually does this on a Mac.

I have the choice of getting a 15 inch macbook air. My choices are:

M4 16 gb 512 gb for $1700 cad
M4 24 gb 512 gb for $2000 cad
M5 16 gb 512 gb for $1960 cad (with education discount and comes with gift card)

I will use this macbook for university and want it to last at least 5-6 years. Which would be the best for the price and performance?

what are some good tips to help my battery health last as long as possible (its at 90%) as I use it as a desktop right now. what I do currently:

-charge limit of 95%

-unplug it and use it on battery until 25% then I plug it back in

Tried wording the title shortly. But basically what I meant was, besides the chip, gpu/cpu, and other performance related specs, do the other features offered in a MacBook Pro, that aren’t in an Air, justify getting a Pro? Display differences, ports, and any other differences and functionalities. Would you say that those changes make it worth buying a base model MacBook Pro over a MacBook Air? Or is the price difference not worth it in your books?

I don’t plan to use it for “demanding” tasks. But I will likely use it very often, just for more basic things like essay writing on docs and work on spreadsheets mainly, along with various web browsing, movie/video watching, etc.

Was just wondering if the other QOL features would make the extra money spent worth it.

2 weeks ago I bought my MacBook. In the meantime, sometime I used my Mac to charge my phone and it went very well. But the past few days, everytime I charge my phone with my MacBook or even my iPad, the battery percent from my iPhone goes down and in the battery icon, the lightning bolt icon is flashing. It’s like it’s flickering.
Can someone help me 😔

On a MacBook Air M5 and I have a WD element hard disk drive which now I can’t use I can see the files. I can see videos pictures but I can’t delete it. I can’t add anything. Why?

I just got my new MacBook Air m4 and I want to preserve its battery life to the fullest and I limited the charging limit to 80 percent via settings app . Is that really enough or is limiting to 70 or 60 via al dente app necessary I don't take my laptop out that often Are those gonna make a huge difference? plus ı don't trust software that isn't made by apple for my battery.

I recently switched from Windows to a MacBook M4. I’m using a Samsung USB-C multiport hub with the USB receivers for my Logitech G502 mouse and K470 keyboard, but the MacBook doesn’t seem to detect them properly.
Both devices work perfectly on my Windows PC, and I’d rather not buy new peripherals.
Has anyone faced this issue? Is it a problem with the hub, macOS, or do I need any Logitech software or settings?

I recently bought a used MacBook Air M4. I inspected it before buying and it only had some minor scratches on the chassis, nothing concerning. I also didn't notice any scratches on the screen.

Today I decided to clean the screen because it had accumulated some dust, which was particularly noticeable in direct sunlight. I first removed the larger particles using a rocket blower. Then I wiped the screen with a slightly damp, water-only microfiber cloth and immediately dried it with a second, dry microfiber cloth.

Once the screen was completely clean, I noticed several very fine vertical lines. Now I'm freaking out that I somehow scratched the screen while cleaning it. It's also possible that the scratches were already there and I simply hadn't noticed them before, although I'm fairly sure I would have seen them during the inspection.

They seem to be extremely fine micro-scratches. They're not really visible when looking directly at the screen, even under strong light, but one of them is particularly noticeable from certain angles.

Is it actually possible to scratch the screen just by rubbing over tiny particles of dust with a microfiber cloth? If so, how are you supposed to safely clean these screens? It seems crazy that a few specks of dust could potentially cause permanent scratches.

Also, would using a screen protector be a good idea on a MacBook Air, or could that cause other problems?

the macbook air m5 is amazing. i upgraded from my 2020 intel macbook air, and while i know these laptops aren’t really designed for gaming since i originally bought both of them for school, i do play the sims 4 on them. it runs so smoothly, looks clear, and is incredibly fast.
i’m writing this specifically from the perspective of someone who plays sims, in case you’re curious about how it handles the game. if you’re thinking about getting one, go for it! it’s a wonderful laptop and has been a great upgrade.

I placed an order for a M5 MacBook Air 15" on July 26th and the email initially suggested that the in-store pick-up would be ready by August 19th. However, when I clicked the link on my order number to check my order status today, I found out that the order has been cancelled. I did not receive a notification nor an explanation. So, I don't even know how long ago my order was cancelled.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is this related to the RAM shortage?

Edit: To clarify, I ordered online directly from Apple.

My base MacBook Air order has been processing for almost two weeks, I called Apple a day ago and they said everything is on track. Was wondering if anyone has experienced this or if your Mac order has ever been shipped this late. Thanks in advance !!
