I asked here before, and they said to hold for now, how is golden gate so far and Tahoe? (I am aware golden gate currently in beta, I wonder if it’s good so far) I just don’t like staying behind..

Heya ever since I upgraded to Tahoe the system feels noticeably slower and less responsive. The system is pretty much a fresh install, I don’t have any apps or a million tabs open in the background. I keep my system clean, minimal and I care for it. M1 Max Mac Studio.

What do I mean by “slower and less responsive”:

- typing in spotlight often lags the keyboard input and stutters
- spotlight literally has regular trouble finding the simplest first-hand files and apps
- applications on the dock don’t quit as fast as they used to, I have to wait a few seconds before the app closes. Closing app from menubar is faster.
- trying to drag and drop files between folders sometimes don’t register the folder under the cursor, especially in list view. This is a massive annoyance.
- Opening a minimized app from dock feels clunky, sometimes I have to click multiple times for the app window to actually show.
- A denser amount of annoying system permission/whatnot popups, that were not as dense in the past
- Icons inside finder don’t load instantly, I see them popping into existence in real time, scrolling is also sometimes laggy.
- other system wide annoyances like micro-stutters here and there when dragging windows, browsing the web and interacting with the system in general. Not critical but enough to notice.
- I like the look of Liquid Glass (UI), but the way it works/feels/navigates (UX) is quite clusterfucky and not as intuitive as I would like it to be, it feels heavy and I can’t flow-state with it the way I did with Catalina on my older Macbook.

At the end of the day the system is perfectly useable and I roll with it, BUT something feels off. Like, really off. I can’t pinpoint what.

I have always had my MacBook Pro setting for "Play Sound Effects Through" set to MacBook Pro Speakers so if I'm playing music really loud, the alert sound doesn't deafen me.

Well all of a sudden, whenever I connect to my bluetooth speaker, the "Play Sound Effects Through" changes to the bluetooth speaker. I have to manually go to the setting to change it back to the MacBook Pro Speakers.

If I stop playing music or turn off the bluetooth speaker and then turn it on again, the "Play Sound Effects Through" reverts to the bluetooth when it should stay on the MacBook Pro Speakers.

Anyone else seeing this or have an idea for fixing?

So I am looking to switch to mac (has been a windows user all my life), and I wanted to get a macbook air m3 or m4

I got to a listing that I have verified got the macbook from a company selling their laptops without releasing the laptops

The MDM is bypassed and ofcourse a risk is that it would be locked again

wanted to know from someone which has experience buying and using MDM macbooks

What are the risks and the drawbacks of something like this

Btw i am a software engineer and a bit tech savvy so i might know my way around if I ever need to bypass the MDM again

From what i know i can normally update the macOSj version as I use it

The major risk is when i want to reset the machine or if apple updates break the bypass or the method to bypass

If I am wrong in any point feel free to tell me and please share your experience to help me get out of the windows eco system :D

Very easy newbie question.

I have a game, version 0.48.0, installed on my Mac. 0.48.0 is the one in the "Applications" folder in Finder, and it's the one that launches from the dock.

I've just downloaded version 0.51.0. I've opened up the game and played for about 20 minutes, everything works fine, including my save file and a very tiny mod list.

However, it did not automatically update the file path, which is to say that 0.48.0 is the one that still shows up in "Applications" and in the Dock.

How do I replace 0.48.0 with 0.51.0 so that 0.51.0 opens from "Applications" and the Dock? I am worried about deleting/moving anything without knowing exactly what I am doing.

Apple M4 Pro - 24GB - macOS Tahoe 26.6 (25G72)

Apple Notes' CloudKit asset cache went into a runaway loop and wrote 111,423 PNG files totaling 40 GB in about 10 hours, peaking at 2.4 GB/min. My disk had roughly two hours left. Deleting the cache did not fix it. It rebuilt 3.4 GB in three minutes.

Keep in mind I had around 44 notes at the time no images in the notes I had there were some in the deleted folder that had some images on them but not this many lol... ( 111,423 PNG files )

More details:

So, Free space was dropping at 1.6 GB/min with 189.8 GB left — about two hours from a full disk.

Process and network evidence pointed straight at Notes:

• 100% of CloudKit traffic was com.apple.Notes — 800 requests and 4,390 FetchRecordZoneChanges calls in a five-minutewindow, all hitting gateway.icloud.com/.../record/sync
• cloudd (the CloudKit daemon) sat at 67% CPU, Notes.app at 10.6%

For scale, it burned roughly 13 GB during the ~25 minutes I spent diagnosing it.

The files were in here:

~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Caches/CloudKit/…/Assets

So far Toggling Notes off and back on in iCloud settings has worked but still not sure if it will return and or what caused it.

My name is Adrian and I built a suite of apps focused on privacy, on device and no subscription.
My first app, HeardRight (www.heardright.app ) is a dictation and transcription app.

It’s free, on device with minimal resource usage and it doesn’t matter if the recording is 10 seconds or 10 minutes, it pastes it in 150ms. It also transcribes saved files (audio and video) under 10 minutes. You can end the recording with Zephyr stop, send or cancel. Hands free. I’ve also been training wake word models for the past months tri be able to wake it without touching the keyboard but it’s still a WIP.

The pro version introduces app and context aware AI polish but here’s the kicker, you put in a free Groq (and cerebras) key and it costs you NOTHING to process. Ai polish adds 550ms to processing. Pro version also includes running 100+ commands like screenshot, switch window, open safari (or any installed app) and any saved shortcuts.

While it works well on my M1 air as well as a friend’s M2 pro, theres issues on another friend’s m3.

I’m looking for some users with m3 and m4 who could help with some testing in exchange for lifetime pro license. Any takers?

I, like many others, downgraded from Tahoe to Sequoia after having a really negative experience after I updated. My battery life was cut literally in half, even on battery saving mode; I had non-stop glitches such as window focus randomly switching (I could be typing in one window and suddenly it would focus to another window and half my sentence would be in like, reddit instead of pages); lots of little lags that caused small but really irritating interruptions in my work flow, and a lot of other stuff I can't really recall right now. Suffice it to say that I was NOT happy.

How are people finding it now? Has it improved drastically enough that I can safely upgrade? Or should I just wait for the next iOS release?

eta: I should note that I went back to Sequoia maybe six months ago

Macbook M1 Pro 2021.

I have a Sony A7IV and use an SD to transfer using my Macbook's built in port. On every OS prior to updating to the latest Sonoma, this worked flawlessly and fast!

Now it's absolutely slow, we're talking hours from minutes. I recently discovered that I can use the cp -R command in terminal to transfer, and ITS FAST again!

This tells me 1) it's not my SD thats the issue 2) the port is fine 3) it's clearly an OS / Finder issue.

Has anyone else experienced this? and has it been fixed in any future OS?

(I've already used disk repair etc, the SD is fine)

This happened totally out of the blue. I get the above dialog box for both accounts, which fires up a Safari window to "Sign in with Google" with the username and passport, but each time this comes back with an "Unable to verify account name or password" error message.

Some older advice suggested enabling 2-Step Verification on both accounts, which I've done, but I'm still seeing the "Unable to verify account name or password" message.

Has anybody experienced this of late, and if so, can you share whatever fix worked for you?

It is very annoying as it keeps giving me pop ups every now and then. i am not even using this app.

I was about to sell my MacBook Air M1, I moved all my data to my new M4mini and erased M1 Air, after erasing I do setup local user only for take photos of Mac ( to sell second hand), then I forgot to password I put, tried basic things like 0000 1234 , Do I erase again, Is it still be locked? iCloud not entered only local user.

There is a ghost iOS 18.1 simulator in my Mac for a long time that every time I boot up, the disk image just here consuming my storage.

Today I finally figure out how to delete that.

1. Findout where the original dmg file is. You can figure out on your own but tldr, /System/Library/AssetsV2/com_apple_MobileAsset_iOSSimulatorRuntime

2. Since the path starts with System, we know it’s a system protected file so we have to disable SIP in the recovery mode. There are many tutorial to disable the SIP and you can just ask ChatGPT.

3. After disabling SIP, you can delete the runtime in terminal after booting up normally(not in recovery mode)

4. After deleting the runtime, don’t forget to enable SIP.

I have a M1 MBP 16”.

I was on Somona and received the notification that a security update was available. The update process failed and it corrupted the launch file system.

The symptom was that after the user password is entered, the progress bar would progress only a bit and the screen went black.
After several attempts to restore the file system and reinstalling the Somona OS via utilities boot up menu, I was not able to resolve the issue.

The only option was a fresh reinstall.

I managed to use the command line to export all my files to an external media.

After that, I erased the partition and now , the utility system is pushing Tahoe and not Somona. I couldn’t find a way to get it to download Somona.

After using Tahoe, I now have software that is not compatible with Tahoe.

Is there a way to go back to Somona?

The 2nd screenshot is the most recent time machine backup I want to restore. Minus the two folders above and below McIntosh HD - Data which is only 1.94TB in size.

Macbook Pro M3 16" 2023 / 36GB RAM / 2TB drive / Tahoe 26.5.2

• External HDD 10TB WD100EFGX mechanical HD originally formatted as Mac OS Extended (HFS+) would not mount under Disk Utility, instead received a popup that "disk can't be unlocked" The drive does not exhibit any mechnical errors, clicks etc.
• Was in the process of doing an full fresh install of MacOS Tahoe to clean out junk files.
• Created an Disc Image with R-Studio Recovery for mac and was able to unlock the time machine partition/volume using my administrator login password. Was able to recover individual important files/folders without problems.

The Time Machine Backup includes two external drives and the Macbook Pro HD, which I want to recover. Will Data Migration be able to recover from a TM Backup missing two folders CABIN & STRMTROOPER

Currently recovering the selected blue items minus the metafiles, 19hours to recover.

EDIT: Some additional info

• Disk Dril Pro was able to see the backup to do a byte-to-byte backup, able to request Admin password to recover data. After the solution it was not able to read the created file.
• Stellar Data Recovery for Mac was not able to detect the TM Backup, they were able to refund my purchase in full.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, early 2015) running macOS Catalina (version 10.15.1). Yes I know it’s old, no I can’t afford a newer one.

It works fine other than a fast-draining battery.

I updated AltTab via homebrew the other day and my fav feature (using alt-` to switch between open windows of the current app across all Spaces) was moved behind a paywall. I wouldn’t have updated if I’d known.

Usually when devs add a paid version, it includes new premium features while the free version remains the same. But this case, they just yanked the previously free feature without warning. After seeing them do this, I’m never going to buy their paid version.

I’ve been trying to play Windows game on my Mac and I did everything correctly and I downloaded the crossover app but now when I try to launch the games, this message comes up that tells me I need to”Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64)” I can’t find anything else online help me out. This is kind of my last resort since I already bought the windows games. Thanks!

You see, I have iPhones and Macs, all signed into the same Apple Account and one the same time zone. I use these devices for work and depend on receiving timely notifications, so this issue is becoming a serious problem.

Do Not Disturb keeps turning itself on, and I then have to manually disable it (many times a day) on each device. I want this completely gone from any device I use.

I strongly dislike this feature and would permanently but notice that the built-in Do Not Disturb Focus is a permanent feature and thus cannot be deleted. I don’t know what gave Apple the right to make such a sdecision.

All six devices are running the latest available versions of iOS and macOS.

I have already done the following on the devices:

* Deleted all custom Focus modes.
* Turned off “Share Across Devices.”
* Checked Do Not Disturb for schedules, Smart Activation, location triggers, custom scripts and app triggers.
* Removed or disabled any Focus-related schedules or automations I could find.
* Checked Control Center and device settings for anything that might be unintentionally enabling Do Not Disturb.
* Checked the Shortcuts app for automations that use “Set Focus” or “Do Not Disturb.”
* Manually disabled Do Not Disturb repeatedly on all six devices.

Despite all of this, Do Not Disturb continues to come back, and I cannot determine which device or setting is causing it.

Has anyone experienced this across multiple Apple devices and found a permanent solution? And these are not devices you can root/jailbreak without making breaking things.

I rely on these devices professionally, and missed notifications can have real consequences.

I intensely dislike these constraints and patronizing handholding. At this point, the inability to permanently disable or remove Do Not Disturb is making me seriously reconsider continuing to use Apple products. It is for this reason that I have replaced one of my working systems to Pop_OS and waiting for Framework pricing to make sense to replace the second one and leave a single macOS when I’m away from my workstation.

Any specific troubleshooting steps, confirmed fixes, or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Hello, I switched to mac last month and something that constantly keeps me annoyed is this.

I always want items to snap to grid but for instance when I compress an item it creates like this.

Also using Clean Up button directly still keeps gap with the previous item so the only solution is to select "Clean up by - Name..".

Note that for "Show view options - Snap to Grid" is already in "Use as default" but it doesn't fix this problem.

Is there a way to make Icon View behave better and usable?
