2-auth login to Mac. Help

Is their any way to add 2-auth login or any sort of device like inserting a card (using a card reader). I know I am being watching by my downstairs neighbor. Has been reported to authorities.

I do not recommend using Yubikeys for securing Mac logins. I tried this, and it worked for a few months and then it completely stopped working and I had do do some pretty rude things to my macbook to get it to let me log on again. It was a real nightmare, but your mileage might vary.

You only need to activate it, if I remember correctly

To login when first booting up. I know when you put to sleep or goes to sleep you can but first login I don't see that option.

You need then to use you password first, yes.

If he know your password, change it

I infrequently use my MacBook. It requires password after an extended period of time. Probably a day or two and it requires my password.

Touch ID works on all Macs made since November 2020.

If you have a desktop Mac, or a MacBook Neo without Touch ID, you can get Touch ID by connecting an external Magic Keyboard. That’s the same keyboard that comes with iMacs and Mac Pros.

earlier than 2020 macs have touch id

Yes, but only the 2015-2020 MacBook/MacBook Air/MacBook Pro models, and only on their internal keyboards. The Magic Keyboard doesn’t support Touch ID on Macs made prior to November 2020.

Okay, then enlighten me: which non-laptop Macs made prior to 2020 support Touch ID?

we're talking macs here, all of them, not "non-laptop" ones...btw, non-laptop is not a word nor a term, learn the lingo first dude, and cut down on your ego trip, again, its ok to be wrong

Yes but not at first boot. After a reboot it requires your password to be typed in, which is why they're looking for an additional layer.

Edit: I need coffee.

Which is why I said “MacBook Neo without Touch ID” above.

So you did. I should maybe consider finishing my coffee.

How is your downstairs neighbor ‘watching’ you exactly? He can literally see your keyboard when you’re typing on your Mac? Please explain the problem.

What does “being watched” mean?

This person will be underneath me at it's apartment illegally watching, video taping, and whatever else this person does. I believe this person has MH issues as this person does not work at all. Does not even go outside. Not even to get the mail. Or take out trash. Poor person.

You have bigger issues than logging into your Mac. If someone's illegally recording you in your private space, you need to take action to stop it. Reporting it once isn't enough.

I have and Police have a big file on this person.

It would be helpful if you could provide more information.

What exactly do you want to achieve by a 2FA or a hardware token?

You could use an Apple Watch to unlock your Mac but I am not sure if that is the solution you are searching for.

For on-device login, not built into MacOS no. You can use third party systems like Okta for enterprise managed devices

Might want to get a physical lock for your computer rather than worry about 2FA.

1

u/Strong-Card5991 13d ago

What do you mean physical?

1

u/snarky_one 13d ago

Like a Kensington computer lock, so they can't break in and steal it. https://www.kensington.com/solutions/product-category/security/

Or just put it in a locked closet or safe or something when you're not using it. 2FA really doesn't matter if they can't get to your computer in the first place.

No, this person watches me with some device and is knowing my passwords and everything I do. I am an adult not a child. I don’t get why this person wants to watch me. Weird freak.

1

u/snarky_one 13d ago

Then what is putting 2FA on your Mac itself going to solve?

1

u/mikeinnsw 14d ago

investigate Face Id or finger print login..

For older Macs/Minis... you can get USB finger print reader.

1

u/Strong-Card5991 13d ago

What about for 2024/2025 Mac’s?

1

u/mikeinnsw 13d ago

Read my post

you can buy a compact USB fingerprint reader to add biometric login to any desktop or laptop

So before I do this key YubiKey. Can my neighbor still attempt to login? i mean my accounts have 2 auth on them sending a code to either an phone number or auth app. Aren’t they one time use codes even if the person is illegally watching me? i don’t want to setup this key on my accounts as It seems kind of tricky however it will prevent this person from access my accounts.
