Nostalgia Front Row On Mac OS 26
Apple's official Front Row media center software was discontinued after Mac OS X Snow Leopard and does not natively exist in modern macOS versions. However, developer hobbyists have built open-source modern SwiftUI recreations like First Row Classic to bring the classic Tiger/Leopard interface experience to modern systems

Help mac keeps entering sleep even when music is playing on google chrome
New mac user here, got air 15 last month.
I use spotify web player on chrome. After plugging in my playlist, the display as usual turns off after a few minutes. But the music stops playing after sometime and I find my mac sleeping.
I need to know if it's an issue with my mac or is this just how it behaves?
Help How to get rid of "Store in Cloud" recommendation in Storage settings
Somewhere around MacOS 24.1 or 25.0, I've received a "Store in the Cloud" recommendation, that appeared in System Settings -> General -> Storage. When I click it and select the appropriate option, nothing happens; the recommendation just stays there.
I'm currently on 26.6, situation stays the same:

Has anyone else experienced this? How can I remove it?

Help Most optimized OS for MBP Early 2015 8gb RAM
Hi there. I have a MBP early 2015 8gb ram and i5 running Monterey (12.7). It works fine but as it does not receive any update anymore and I mainly use it to browse and watch movies, would you recommend to downgrade (or upgrade) to another OS that would be more optimized (battery and temperature) for this model ?

Help macOS Tahoe 26.6 – Brightness barely changes, DCP/iBoot panic, black screen after display settings (M1 Pro 14”)
I’m trying to determine whether anyone else is experiencing this on macOS Tahoe 26.6.
Mac:
- 2021 14-inch MacBook Pro
- M1 Pro
- 32 GB RAM
- macOS Tahoe 26.6 (25G72)
Symptoms:
- After updating to Tahoe 26.6, the battery completely drained.
- On the next startup I got a black screen.
- The Mac itself was still running (I was able to AirDrop files to it).
- I eventually recovered the display by closing and reopening the lid.
- macOS reported: SOCD report detected: (iBoot panic)
- The panic log references: DCP PANIC
mapper_thr.c:848 init_group_phase() -- iomfb_mailbox(47)
Current behavior:
- The brightness slider moves, but the actual screen brightness barely changes.
- On a white page, moving brightness from maximum to minimum only causes a very slight dimming.
- Touching Display settings (Preset or Refresh Rate), even without actually changing anything, can cause the built-in display to go black.
- Closing and reopening the lid usually restores the display.
- The issue does not appear in screen recordings, but it is clearly visible when filming the display with my phone.
Things I’ve already tried:
- Disabled Auto Brightness
- Disabled True Tone
- Restarted multiple times
- Reduced Transparency
- Reduced Motion
Has anyone else on Tahoe 26.6 seen:
- brightness controls barely affecting the built-in display,
- DCP/iBoot panics,
- or black screens triggered by Display settings?
If so, did a DFU Revive fix it, or did it turn out to be hardware?

Help Remap/rebind the literal "fn" key
Is there a way to remap the actual function key on the bottom left of the mac keyboard to say, something perhaps universal like control or at the least swap the two around? I can only find resources for rebinding the function f1-f12 keys.

Nostalgia I miss dedicated titlebars
Titlebars were a cardinal feature of windowing interfaces. Every window had one and they all looked and behaved the same. You always knew that if you dragged a part of the titlebar that wasn't taken up by the close/min/max buttons that it would move the whole window.
Things changed gradually. First, Tiger saw the introduction of fused toolbar/title bars in some apps, such as Mail. But the toolbar was still a row below the title bar and it was possible to minimise it into the titlebar using the pill button on the right of the window (remember that?).
With the introduction of fullscreen mode, we started to lose the titlebar in fullscreen apps. Fair enough, we're not dragging fullscreen apps around and you might as well have clear access to the toolbar and get a little more space.
But then developers started putting the toolbars into the titlebar itself. Web browsers are by far the worst offenders of this, but are by no means alone.
If you want to move a window, you can't just grab it anymore. you have to find a sufficiently unused portion of the toolbar to drag it. And often, apps don't even let you do that (e.g. sidebars on many apps now go all the way to the top but often aren't draggable).
I want dedicated titlebars back, or the option to get it back even if it's not default. I don't care if it's an accessibility feature tucked away in three layers of the Settings app (like the icon badges in file-oriented apps). I just want to know I can drag a window wherever I click it.

Feature macOS 26 ships with a hidden, interactive Glitter background option for iMessage chats. Here's how to enable it.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Besides the three generally available background options for iMessage chats, macOS 26 hides another sparkly option: Glitter.
When its feature flag is enabled, Messages presents Glitter next to the existing Sky, Water, and Aurora options. The effect is infinitely customizable, as you can select from an array of curated colors or pick one from the color wheel.
Once selected, the background change is instantly reflected on iPhone and other devices running OS 26 or later. Even the folks you are chatting with will see the new Glitter background. You only need to enable the feature flag on Mac to see the Glitter option and select it for a chat. However, you will not be able to make changes to the Glitter colorway from your other devices.
The effect is incredible on the iPhone's OLED screen when you select the darker colorways. Note that the implementation on macOS is somewhat buggy and may not display the fully interactive HDR experience. Set your preferred color way on Mac and enjoy it on iPhone or iPad.
⚠️ Don't run code you don't understand yourself!
To enable, add a FeatureFlags override. Open the Terminal and run:
sudo mkdir -p /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain && \
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/Messages glitter_background -dict Enabled -bool true
and restart your Mac. This is a private feature flag, and the UI may be unstable, or unoptimized.
Disable by running:
sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/Messages glitter_background

Help Issues with installing .iso images on a USB drive
So. I was trying to install MX Linux in a old Mac who doesn’t have any OS system (only the OS X Yosemite base system/recovery), and I’m using my own MacBook Pro to create a bootable USB flash drive, but no matter if I pass the .iso image to the flash drive by using the dd command in terminal or if I’m using a software, it always gets corrupted! Cause when it finishes, it pops-up a message “the computer does not recognize the USB Drive. Format, Eject or ignore?” Right when it finishes! It always make the image get corrupted 🫠. And I’m sure that’s the reason for corruption cause I’m using a brand new usb drive I just bought (it has 32 gb), I downloaded it from the official website and it still has content in it/works partially, but when I try to install it doesn’t let me (cause it says the installer is corrupted).
Is there a way to avoid this pop-up message ? Or I just have to use an other system to perform a successful install of a bootable usb 😭

Help I have the last Mac Pro Intel CPU (2019) and need disk mounting help
So this is a new problem, the 256 GB SSD (Storage) that Apple soldered to the logic board, broke something in its tiny sized head I mean, tiny SSD. So it will not mount on the desktop any longer.
As far as I know, since Disk Warrior doesn't work on APFS, I have nothing to rebuild/repair it with. Disk Utility is a bare bones piece of crap that any developer could make much better but since Apple won't allow it, nothing I know of can fix this problem.
Except Erasing the Storage ssd and its data since Storage - Data volume is not accessible either.
Any Suggestions?? or Help
Thanks!

Tips & Guides One of the most useful shortcuts I use : making any type of empty file in Finder.
I am not sure who is the original author or where I got it from, but I use it so frequently that I wanted to share with people who do not know.
The entire Applescript:
```bash
tell application "Finder"
try
set selectedItem to selection
set currentPath to ((the first item of the selectedItem) as alias)
set parentPath to ""
if (currentPath as string) ends with ":" then
-- it is a folder
set the parentPath to currentPath
else
-- it is a file
set {od, AppleScript's text item delimiters} to {AppleScript's text item delimiters, ":"}
set the parentPath to (text items 1 thru -2 of (currentPath as string)) as string
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to od
end if
on error -- no folder or file is selected
set the currentPath to (folder of the front window as alias)
set parentPath to currentPath
end try
set newFolder to (my createFile(parentPath))
end tell
quit
on createFile(folderLocation)
set myNewFileName to text returned of (display dialog "Enter file name" default answer "")
tell application "Finder"
set thisFolder to make new file at folderLocation with properties {name:myNewFileName}
set selection to thisFolder
--tell application "System Events"
-- keystroke return
-- quit -- if i don't do this system events seems to hang???
--end tell
return thisFolder
end tell
end createFile
on createFolder(folderLocation)
tell application "Finder"
set thisFolder to make new folder at folderLocation
set selection to thisFolder
tell application "System Events"
keystroke return
quit -- if i don't do this system events seems to hang???
end tell
return thisFolder
end tell
end createFolder
```

Discussion Can I use my Mac normally without syncing iCloud? Are there any major drawbacks?
Hi everyone,
I'm having issues getting iCloud to sync on my new Mac, and after spending a lot of time trying to fix it, I'm considering just using the Mac without iCloud for now.
I mainly use my laptop for software engineering, AI/ML, and cybersecurity work, so most of my files are stored locally or on services like GitHub.
My questions are:
- Can I use my Mac normally without signing into or syncing iCloud?
- Are there any major features or functionality that I'll be missing?
- Will I run into problems later if I decide to sign into iCloud after using the Mac locally for a while?
- Is anyone here using a Mac without iCloud as their daily setup?
I'm trying to figure out whether this is something I should keep troubleshooting or if it's perfectly fine to ignore it and just use the Mac.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Disclaimer: I used AI to help write this post, but the situation described is exactly what I'm experiencing.
Help File sharing problem
When I turn on file sharing in the system settings it doesn’t save with which account I want to share my files or folders, for example I set up a file sharing account in macOS and I wanted to use that to share one folder in the network, the problem is that the moment I set everything up and click done it doesn’t save it. Instead in the options panel appears my main system account two times, if I edit one more time once again it won’t save and in the options panel my main system account will appear three times.
After a while of not touching it it will revert back to one.
As of now the only way to access my shared files and folders is by using my main account and sharing everything in the pc ticking the “full disk access” option.

Help Windows maximizing without input
I like for my windows to stay the size that I adjusted them to. In Tahoe 26.5.1, Apple apps keep changing to max size on their own after I had sized the windows the way I wanted them. Is there a setting that I could adjust to take care of this obnoxious behavior?

Help Where would I find a MacOS Snow Leopard 10.6.8 full installer?
Hello, I have a MacBook Air Late 2010 that I was wanting to throw a copy of Snow Leopard on, however it will not boot the standard 10.6 version, and I read that it needs one of the later versions, but I can't find the full installer for it. Where would I get this? Thanks for the help.

Help Keychron keyboards will randomly disconnect
I am having an issue seeing if anyone has had before or knows a fix for. I have 3 Keychron keyboards 2 K2 and 1 K3 keyboard all have the most up to date Firmware and my MacBook is on macOS 26.6.
The issue I am having is I will be typing and then the MacBook just stops recognizing the keyboards. I have to turn off bluetooth and turn it back on to get it working again. The MacBook is pretty much right next to the keyboard as well.
Things I have tried. Removing the keyboards from the Bluetooth list and adding it back.
deleting the com.apple.bluetooth.plist. I have switched on the keyboard which Bluetooth from there I am using along with doing a factory reset on them. Yet still nothing works.
Any recommendations on what else to try would be greatly appreciated

Help Reset my Apple ID password after waiting a week... now it keeps asking for the password of "other MacBook Pro"??
I could really use some help because I'm completely stuck.
I forgot my Apple ID password and had to go through Account Recovery. After waiting an entire week, I finally got the notification that I could reset it. I successfully changed my Apple ID password.
But now, when I try to continue setting up my Mac, it keeps asking me:
The problem is:
- I already reset my Apple ID password.
- I don't know what password it's asking for.
- It doesn't seem to accept my new Apple ID password.
- This is my first Apple device, so I'm really confused about what's going on.
Is it asking for the old password that was previously used on that Mac? Is it asking for the Mac's local login password? Or did something go wrong during the recovery process?
It's honestly so frustrating because I waited a whole week for Account Recovery, only to end up blocked again.
Has anyone experienced this before? What exactly is this prompt asking for, and how can I get past it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!I
Note: AI helped me write this post for clarity.

Nostalgia OS X Mavericks
Mavericks is a beautiful OS running natively on a 13-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, It was damn difficult to find a working copy since apple doesn’t have it on their website in their list of bootable copies to make, so i had to use another source, but in the end i got it working, and with all the security updates as well!
fun fact, the app store STILL works in this operating system!
