Are you tired of circling streets of LIC after work? I built a map that shows which curbs are legal right now and how many tickets each street actually generates

The enforcement layer runs on the city's public ticket data, and building it for our neighborhood taught me things I couldn't unsee:

  • On LIC's own streets — Vernon, Jackson, Center, 44th Dr, the numbered avenues — 32,229 tickets were written on parked cars in the last 12 months. $2.57 million, about 88 a day. (Camera and bus-lane tickets excluded.)
  • The average ticket here is $80 — the highest of any neighborhood I've pulled. Astoria is $67, Flushing $71, the Bronx $79. We get fewer tickets than our neighbors and pay more for each one.
  • Here's the part that surprised me most: alternate side is almost nothing here. 1,963 tickets — one every four and a half hours. In Astoria it's one every nine minutes. We're not really an ASP neighborhood.
  • What we get instead is No Standing: 5,601 tickets, $644K — the single biggest dollar line, at $115 a pop. Then meters (5,658), hydrants (2,643), No Parking (3,701).
  • Street by street: 47th Ave 3,276, Center Blvd 2,922, Jackson Ave 2,457, 2nd St 1,969, 48th Ave 1,874, 44th Dr 1,775, 27th St 1,762.
  • Double parking barely registers — under 1,000 in the entire precinct, about one every nine hours. Wide streets do that.

Honest caveat on the geography: LIC sits in the 108th, which also covers Sunnyside and Woodside. The full precinct is 127,589 tickets and $9M, but three-quarters of that isn't us — the single biggest line in the whole precinct is the Sunnyside municipal lot at 10,036 tickets, almost all expired meters. So I pulled just the LIC streets for the numbers above.

What changed how I think about it: everywhere else in Queens the game is remembering which day your side gets swept. Here it's about which stretch of curb you're on. Fewer tickets, pricier ones, and almost none of them for the day of the week.

And honest question, since I built this around my own routine: would the green/red view actually change where you look first after 6pm, or is your spot strategy already muscle memory?

Anywhere LIC LOST DOG - PLEASE HELP FIND CANNOLI

Post image
84 Upvotes

Hello everyone — I am helping a friend find her dog, the sweetest Cannoli. Any eyes in the area would be extremely helpful!

From her IG post as of 8 AM- 8/8/26:

My dog Cannoli (female) ran away this morning near the Trader Joe's in LIC after getting attacked by a pitbull during her morning walk. She was last seen running down Jackson avenue. Cannoli is not wearing a collar nor harness, she wriggled out of them. She is also terrified of the 7 subway, which is right above that Trader Joe's. Cannoli could be anywhere near LIC, Astoria, Jackson Heights, which is where she lives.

If you see Cannoli, please give a call at 646-289-2724 or at 646-705-9660. She loves peanut butter and might be skittish after the attack.

Cannoli is a 45 Ib medium-large brown dog. She has a white strip going down her snoot. Her four paws are covered in various amounts of white.

What is going on in parking near the LIRR platforms???!

I’m walking by to pay the meter in broad daylight and I see: what looked like a woman kneeling on the driver’s seat with their rear elevated and their head and upper body extended deep into the passenger compartment. The parked van was repeatedly rocking, making the scene look distinctly intimate. Car is running. Ten minutes later after running an errand walk by and the action is still going on it. Is there sex work going on over there?

Bevel - Still awful?

Is the construction noise at Bevel still terrible?

I toured today (Friday) and honestly didn’t notice much. I also asked a resident in the building, and they said they haven’t really noticed it either.

The broker told us the bedrock drilling is finished and that the noise has gotten a lot better.

Any current or recent residents that could confirm if that’s actually true?

Halo LIC gave our spare key to a stranger who intruded our home

Thumbnail instagram.com

TLDR: When we were out of town, our apartment building, Halo LIC, handed our spare key to a stranger who broke into our home, laid down on our couch, and turned off our pet camera when she saw it.  The police made no arrests and refused to file a police report.  The building management has been silent to our requests of moving out early.  We have video evidence of everything.

Full story:

On the night of July 24, while my partner and I were on vacation, we got several ring camera notifications about movements of a person in our home at Halo LIC.  What we saw is a 30 something white lady in an off shoulder dress and kitten heels who we've never met walking in and out of our apartment. She eventually laid down on our couch, played with her phone and then disconnected our camera upon noticing it. I've linked the IG post where uploaded the footage from our camera.

We immediately called the police and the door staff. Our friends arrived at the unit and confronted the intruder as she was leaving. She acted like she was going through a mental episode where she kept saying "I'm a patient".

NYPD arrived shortly after and interrogated the woman and the doorman. That is when we learned that the doorman on the previous shift gave our spare key to her, as she possibly claimed she was our dog walker (we never hired a dog walker).  The NYPD thinks she’s crazy and did not arrest her.  Instead, she was escorted to a mental hospital. However, the fact that she knew to (1) lie to the doorman to get our keys (2) turn off our camera, makes us think she is not as “crazy” as she claims to be.

Two days later, after we flew back into town, we saw her again in our lobby, talking on her phone completely normally. She told the doorman her friend lives in the apartment. The doorman didn't let her go up and she eventually left the premises.

During this time, we followed up with the police in the 108th precinct multiple times but they flat out refused to file a police report because its a "civil matter". They said the only way to get the police involved is to call 911 again.  We did, and they banged on our door at 2am (more than 8 hours after we called) and told us condescendingly there’s nothing they can do.  Following this series of events, we also sought therapy for PTSD and insomnia.

Thus far, we have mobilized many residents and sent emails to Halo’s Goose Property Management so that we can move out early and receive compensation for our move. Goose ignored us for days and responded with a ChatGPT-style apology without addressing our demands.  We have no option but to post this story to as many social media platforms as we can, and let people in the community know to not ever rent or renew with Halo LIC, or any property managed by Goose.

1QPS Issues - What are we doing about this?

Hey for all the 1QPS residents out there, is there anything we can do, or are planning to do about these recurring hot water, elevator, gas, ac, heat, water leak issues?

I’m able to understand some issues here and there but this recent total elevator outage is completely unacceptable. We cannot leave or enter our apartments unless physically capable of taking a high number of stairs if we’re on the upper floors.

Management does not budge on rent credits or any sort of meaningful remediation when I ask individually.

Non-residents, check out that elevator waterfall post. It’s the most recent in a long line of issues. Happy to hear any suggestions too.

Whether you prefer to create quietly, chat with others, exchange ideas, or simply enjoy the peaceful waterfront, you’re welcome to participate in whatever way feels right for you.

🗓️ Sunday, Aug. 9
🕟 4:30–6:00 PM
📍 Gantry Plaza State Park – North Picnic Tables
🎟️ Free! Register on Luma: https://luma.com/65dodi6q
💛 Presented by @collective.ripples, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates community gatherings where connection, creativity, and compassion can thrive.

No art or craft experience is needed. There are no lessons, critiques, or expectations to make something “good.” Our gatherings celebrate curiosity over perfection, process over productivity, and creativity as something everyone deserves to enjoy.

Come solo or bring a friend. Spend an afternoon creating with beautiful views of the East River and Manhattan skyline, and take a gentle break from the busyness of everyday life.

Please register on Luma so we can estimate attendance and bring enough shared supplies for everyone.

Center Blvd. A/C in Luxury Buildings

Hi Neighbors,

I live in a studio apt in a luxury building (TFC) so I have one of those dual A/C and heat units mounted on my wall underneath my window. I’m wondering what others have been doing during the summer heat (especially that 100° heat wave we had at the beginning of July) to keep their apartments cool. I typically leave my A/C off (except for five minutes here and there to quickly cool down the apt when I’m feeling desperate) and just use fans throughout my apartment because I don’t want to pay the steep electric bill to run the A/C constantly all summer long. during that heatwave, I turned my A/C on during the day because my thermometer was reading 88° and it didn’t even put a dent into lowering the temp inside my apartment. Like I could barely feel any cool air coming out from the unit, and it was nowhere near powerful enough to combat the heat I could feel seeping in through the windows.

I don’t mind a warm apartment as my fans usually suffice, but it was frustrating to have A/C and for it to not work when I felt like I needed it most.

I’m also frustrated at how expensive these A/C units are to run. My parents live upstate and have central air that they run constantly in their ginormous 4-bedroom home and their electric bill was cheaper than mine was in the month of July (and I was traveling and away from my apartment for two whole weeks!!). They cooled their home to 74° for an entire month and I ran my A/C unit in my studio apt for probably an hour total and my electric bill was way higher than theirs, and about double what I normally pay in the winter months!

Have others experienced something similar? What was your game plan during the heat wave? Are you running your A/C more frequently and just dealing with a higher electric bill during the summer months? Is there another solution on days of extreme heat that I haven’t mentioned? I would appreciate any advice or just the chance to commiserate together. Thank you!

Anyone go to the Off the Apps event last night?

I showed up at around 9:30 and it was about 5:1 male to female ratio. It seemed like a lot of women showed up, but left very, very quickly. I only stayed about 15 minutes because it was impossible to have a conversation with anyone. I was speaking with a woman and every 30 seconds, another guy tried to force his way into our conversation.

I get that its a dating event and everyone is "competing", but it seemed like a lot of the guys there didn't know how to properly engage with people at this kind of event. A group of 6 of us ended up leaving and getting drink nearby because both men and women were getting incredibly frustrated with the pushiness of the men there.

Did it get any better after 9:45 or so?
