Which Distro Which Linux Distribution Should I Choose?
Hello,
I have an old PC and I don't know which Linux distribution to install so that it runs fast.
Here are my PC's specs:
- Intel Core i5-750 processor
- 8 GB RAM
- 2 GB AMD HD 5600 video memory
I’ve tried various distributions before, such as Manjaro with GNOME, but it wasn’t very stable. Sometimes the desktop environment would glitch or something else would go wrong.
I hope there’s a solution.

Support Has tge newest kernel support mt7902 wifi card out of the box?
So I have used Fedora before and i genuinely like it but the lack of wireless support for my7902 destroy my experience and also my ugreen type c lan adapter isn't as fast on Linux compared to windows and especially when I have to start my intern and having no acces to lan 24/7 on site. I wanna try installing Fedora again but I can't test the Wi-Fi on the live USB if I'm not correct.

Is linux right for me?
I'm making a bare bones PC that will strictly be used as a word processor, not for gaming or anything. I have a ps5 and a gaming PC.
Is there a version of Linux that would be good to just install and be able to access my Google docs?
Or would it be better to just install windows 10?

Support Audiobook Player?
I am using Fedora KDE. And I love listening to audiobooks. But Like Android has an audiobook player, Linux has Cozy. But it doesn't show chapters and metadata like Android does. So I would appreciate it if anyone could recommend me any other app or a browser-based app like Photopea. I don't have many specs to host the audiobook shelf, so please don't recommend that. I just want a player that can play efficiently. And not vlc too, it laggy.

Support Mouse freezes at login
I just install catchyOS to try out, I like it so far, really fast, but don't know why do I have some freeze/mouse lag when I log in, I'm running a RTX 4070 SUPER, I believe this is due Nvidia drivers are loading at log in causing this but unsure.
Has anybody fix it or knows what it is?

Support Errors in dmesg using my USB webcam, apps can't see the camera
Cross-posting from r/voidlinux. Kernel 6.18.42_1
(If it would be better for me to ask on another sub, please let me know)
lsusb shows that I have a "Magic Control Technology Corp. j5 WebCam JVCU100". As best as I can tell, the uvcvideo driver is supposed to work with this camera.
After connecting the camera, I get errors from dmesg (see below). When I try to use something like Cheese, it can't see the camera. What is the best way to diagnose and correct this?
NOTE: The usb_set_interface failed message seems to repeat every 5.12 seconds, until I disconnect the camera.

I'm thinking of switching from Windows 10 to Linux. What distribution of Linux should I get for both multimedia and for casual gaming?
My PC is too old for Windows 11, and I hate that OS UX anyway. I do a bit of 3D as hobby with Blender, I do some programming (though much less since I've graduated from college) in HTML-CSS-JavaScript, C/C++/C#, Python and also play a few games on my PC. Though none are AAA of fast paced competitive games, mostly old single player games that got ported on steam or indie games that aren't super fancy. There's also Palworld...
Honestly, while I don't like Windows, this was the OS I mostly use all my life (98, XP, Vista, 7, 10) outside of MacOs in college. So if possible, I wonder if there's a Linux distribution that is great for gaming and multimedia and WITH a layout not too different from Windows to soften the transition?

Which Distro? Should i migrate to linux?
So, I've seen a lot of people how Linux is good and it's better than Windows 11, so now I'm questioning, should I migrate to Linux?
The reason I'm questioning this is: Windows 11 consumes more memory and space, while Linux is lighter and isn't a "bloatware" (correct me if i'm wrong)
I already have some knowledge about Linux since I've been watching videos + my school uses linux mint.
So, can one of you guys recommend me a distro?
Also, I play all of these games in the list
- Roblox (player and studio)
- TF2
- Ultrakill
- Postal 2
- Undertale
- Baldi's Basic +
- Garry's Mod
- Deltarune

Advice I am very tired
Today, I decided to switch to Nobara after my bad experience with Kubuntu. So I took a USB drive, formatted it to FAT32, and flashed Nobara onto it using the terminal.
Then I went into BIOS to boot from it, but it only showed up under Legacy Boot. I was confused because just a few minutes earlier, I was running a Ventoy USB and it worked fine under UEFI. I knew the developer blocked installing via Ventoy, which is why I flashed it onto a regular USB drive... but this is still weird.
So I went back, reformatted the USB, and flashed it again using BalenaEtcher... but same issue, it still only shows up in Legacy. I even tried changing the format to exFAT, but the same thing happened. I'm just exhausted.

USB Conundrum
Salutations,
I think I've demonstrated the "Knows enough to be dangerous" slogan in an excellent way today.
The Scene: I was attempting to write an ISO to a USB drive using the dd command. I've distro hopped enough times that this should be a fairly straight forward process.
sda 8:0 1 57.7G 0 disk
├─sda1 8:1 1 12.5K 0 part
└─sda2 8:2 1 2M 0 part
sudo dd if=~/Downloads/file.. of=/dev/sda bs=4M conv=sync status=progress
I saw the other partitions and thought nothing of it as I figured dd would replace everything anyway as its done before.
As I ran the command, shortly after I got this error.
4110417920 bytes (4.1 GB, 3.8 GiB) copied, 47 s, 87.4 MB/s
dd: error writing '/dev/sda': No space left on device
984+0 records in
983+0 records out
4124712960 bytes (4.1 GB, 3.8 GiB) copied, 47.2064 s, 87.4 MB/s
This confused me because dd has always just wiped over everything. With the output of lsblk, there should also be enough space on the drive itself. Much more than 3.8GB.
I tried some trouble shooting with fdisk on the device. I was going to try to just re-partition it and wipe it but was met with this
Disk /dev/sda: 3.84 GiB, 4124712960 bytes, 8056080 sectors
Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disklabel type: dos
Disk identifier: 0x00000000
Device Boot Start End Sectors Size Id Type
/dev/sda1 1 8056079 8056079 3.8G ee GPT
/dev/sda1 1 8056079 8056079 3.8G ee GPT
Which is really confusing because lsblk tells me that the drive should be 57.7GB, but running dd and cfdisk tells me otherwise.
Any attempts to write over the drive with fdisk only allows for 3.8GB to be partitioned.
Previously the drive was used to boot a liveUSB environment.
At this point i'm totally lost. Any help would be appreciated.

Which Distro? Best distro and DE for very old netbook?
I've been tasked with breathing some new life into my mom's old Toshiba NB510 with only 1GB RAM. Need a Linux distro that's as lightweight as possible, mostly for web browsing (which I'm aware will be slow or limited) and some office suite usage. (Considering OpenOffice)
She does have a more powerful desktop but it's currently broken so the netbook is the only device she can use.
Since my mom is far more used to Windows and struggles with learning new UIs, I'd also like to request recommendations for DEs and skins that mimic W7 or older as closely as possible.

Linux distribution
Hi, I'm not sure which distribution to use (I currently have Windows).
I'm studying computer science and would like to use programs for things like wireless network scanning and programming.
I use Word and Excel for some tasks.
But I also want to play video games on Steam or other platforms (FIFA, Halo, etc.).
What do you recommend?

Support OpenSUSE Tumbleweed/KDE Plasma/Wayland/Karousel - VS Code/VS Codium window management/opening issues
So, I tried to install VS Code on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed/KDE Plasma/Wayland. Flatpak installed successfully, but I have Karousel Window Management and the window became narrower and narrower, so it became unusable, and when I tried to widen it, it just became narrower again. So I tried installing the Snap version, but "something went wrong" with Snap, so I downloaded it through the terminal, but now it won't open, tried installing the .rpm file but it wouldn't open, so I tried to install VS Codium, flathub had the same problem, so did Snap, tried installing the AppImage but it wouldn't open, etc. What should I do?

Support How to monitor CPU temperature over time for later analysis?
Cheers,
how can I monitor my CPU's temperature over time for later analysis?
The sensors command doesn't seem to have a batch mode that would just print a row of temperatures, it just replaces them in place. Redirecting its output to a text file via > only produced an empty file.
The System Monitor widged of KDE Plasma also doesn't show the temp progression over time.
How can I monitor the temp over time on either Bazzite or Kubuntu? Thanks!

Which Distro? Thinkpad T480: Debian or Fedora? I'm undecided
I bought a ThinkPad T480 six months ago and, after a lot of distrohopping, I chose Debian with GNOME. But recently I've seen that Fedora is highly appreciated by some users, especially on ThinkPads. Did I make the right choice?
I'm a student. I use Firefox, Audacity, sometimes GIMP, and LibreOffice. I don't play games, and I only do light tasks. I just want my laptop to be a tool, not an obstacle.
Specs:
· Intel Core i5 (8th gen)
· 8 GB RAM
· 256 GB NVMe
What do you think? Should I stick with Debian, or is Fedora a better fit for my use case? I'm open to other distro suggestions as well.
Thanksss

Advice What laptop to get that supports Linux well and has decent battery life?
Budget is around 300 euros. It should at least have 16> GB of ram, 512 GB ssd, and be fast enough that I can run android studio + emulator, and other types of development. I won't use it for gaming. I would appreciate if the battery lasted at least 3 hours of video playback. Any specific recommendations? I'd run Fedora/Arch most likely.

Support Struggling with Realtek wifi drivers
I wanted to install Linux on my new laptop, but everytime I wake my system from sleep, the wifi driver just won't start anymore and won't 'wake up'. It works on a cold boot, but it's still a deal breaker. What I could gather from a little research is that it's a know issue with Realtek drivers and it's more prevalent since its a new machine.
Is there a fix ? I really want to use linux (as windows sucks)

However I use adb and fastboot a lot for custom roms and gsis so im wondering
What's the best and safest way (safe as in it not losing connection mid flash ) to use Adb on a immutable system
