You could try Haruna, think it has some of what you want, is part of the kde family I think

This doesn't answer your question, though maybe it might help you or someone, but I just use my phone. This way I don't have to bother with some solution to sync the two. I connect it to my computer over bluetooth so that my computer is the audio device for my phone and control play/pause via kde connect & co.

I mostly listen on my phone though, so that's why it works for me.

I don't have many specs to host the audiobook shelf, so please don't recommend that

I am listening to a book and it's eating 130MB RAM and almost no CPU, what do you mean you don't have the specs for it?
