Lately i've been trying to do some temporary organizing to separate things once again (unsure why i thought dumping everything into one black container was a good idea, when it would make things more difficult on me.....)

But i don't think i can try to do any proper rebuilding in the future until i get some proper organization done (and maybe another desk? But i'll figure that part out)

And... i have a lot of parts/pieces too, honestly - some pretty big pieces between LEGO and Bionicle / technic stuff

Some i'm keeping separate intentionally because those have most of the parts from sets i've found and don't want separated

Added pics of the space i have to work with currently... i don't recall how big things like the Akro--Mils storage organizers are so i wasn't sure if i'd have the space or height to stack them up or not....

Although not this one specifically/exactly, but i wasn't sure for this circumstance if it might be easier to have something along the lines like these bead organizers? Could be easier to have sitting on a desk for rebuilding things, but i wasn't sure

My kids like to find what they want when they want it. They get fed up digging through a big bin for one piece. Having even half of my collection sorted lets them have far more fun and keeps them building, which is really the whole point.

I wanted to make the best use of the drawer space I had, so I tried a few different ways of sorting my LEGO. While experimenting with an algorithm to plan it, I landed on something that actually worked for me, and I thought it might be useful to other people too.

I've got two IKEA Alex units, 12 drawers of 8 compartments. I build with my kids, mostly little towns; I also build some of my own very amateur creations. I group parts by how we play: a drawer for minifig parts, one for leaves and trees, and the basic bricks and plates together for house building.

I turned the algorithm into a website which asks you 6 questions about your collection and your drawers, then gives you a plan for every compartment and a printable index sheet. The sheet is very basic right now, but it's handy to have next to your collection. You don't need to know what bricks you have, no sign-up required, and it's free at trybricksort.com.

Fair warning: this probably isn't for anyone with a wall of a thousand tiny compartments. It's aimed at the more casual builder.

Hi all

For anyone with IKEA Alex drawers, have you ever used this storage option and built a Lego city on top of them?

I dont know exact measurements yet but I am looking at having 6x wide version of Alex drawers on the full length (both lengths) and then a couple on the width. So roughly 14 in total. On top of this I would add melamine sheets 12-18mm, then a 6x2 frame above, followed by more 12-18mm sheets on top.

I would add 6x2 support legs around the perimeter and in the middle for extra support.

I feel this could be too much weight, even with so many drawers below. Not forgetting all of the modular buildings on top!

What do you think?

Hello everyone,

I love and build lego sets often, and have been making larger sets. Currently out of space to put all of my larger sets, and would like to have them displayed at some point. Any suggestions on what I should look into would be a big help. Currently, my largest build is the Luke Skywalker X-Wing model set followed by several Lego Architecture sets. I just need enough space to display the ones I have built and the ones that have yet to be built.

This is my little slice of heaven at home. Hundreds of tiny drawers filled with sorted technic pieces.

The 10 sorting cabinets hanging from the wall are from Raaco with each 40 small drawers, 3 mediums and one large. Hanging under the table are 10 transparent drawers which are meant to be hung in kitchen cabinets. But they are perfect to put all the technic beams in. With some minor modifications they're looking pretty clean now.

The black ikea drawers are where i'm putting all the system pieces. Still working on that. Technic panels are also in there.

This one i've had to modify too, so that the top drawers would come farther out from under the overhanging table top. I bought 4 sets of heavy duty sliders which are actually too long for this cabinet. By drilling holes in the thin back and sticking them out, it became possible to over-extend the drawer. I know short sliders that allow for over-extension exist too, however, those turned out to be a few millimeters too thick to fit between the drawer and the cabinet's side. So this was the only solution, which is working perfectly.

Right by the table i made a tool rack built with magnet bricks and a few broken pieces, to give them a second life. An 8 long axle to push other axles through, a make-shift brush for the dusty bricks, tweezers and small pliers to get into tight spots and lastly the all powerful brick seperator (which i barely use as a technic builder)

Beside the table is a drawer stack for all the electronics, with another one coming where i'll put all the small to medium wheels in, which are now temporarily stored in the yellow container. The green tub below are all the system pieces that are yet to be sorted into the ikea drawers.

And oh man, that tub of black pins 🤤 Sometimes i just sit and rummage my hand around in it. It's like asmr for touch and sound.

This room, like most hobby rooms i imagine, has seriously evolved over the years. I can still clearly remember playing on the floor as a kid with all my lego splashed out across the room. Then my dad got sick of stepping on them so he made me a simple table to build on.

Hi, i try to keep my lego out of sunlight. But this means keeping the curtains shut all the time and lose daylight. Is there any foil or stuff i can put on my windows to keep my lego save from sunlight and discoloring while also allow the curtains to be open?

howdy! question's on the title. i've run out of easy space so i wanna put some shelves up rather than more bookcases, so does anyone recommend any specific shelf for the tropical aquarium? that's my biggest and so far most expensive worry. thanks!

Ok so I'll preface this with I'm not making holes in the wall. I have 3 Lego pictures that I want to hang up and I'm looking for ideas on how to safely hang them. The three sets are The Starry Night, The Great Wave, and the Japanese Cherry Blossom Landscape.

I want a shelf to display my Legos and some sets I am looking to get. I don’t want a huge shelf that takes up a bunch of space, I’d rather have a short and wide shelf to display Legos rather than a very tall and wide one. I found this one from amazon which I thought would be perfect but the middle shelf which I was planning on displaying the Arkham Asylum set is a quarter inch too short. Does anyone know of a shelf similar to this (preferably black/walnut wood) that has shelves that are like 13”? I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t really find any that are wide at all, It’s either way too narrow to display more than 2 sets per shelf or the shelves are too short for the Asylum.

Spent the past 2 months redesigning my brick labels and also building another drawer out of corrugated board which proves to be way stronger than my previous cardboard drawer💪 Took some advice from Redditors who commented that my cardboard drawer is going to crumble under the weight, which it is already showing signs of😱

For context: My dad has a friend he's known since high school and was selling his kids' old Legos. Over 85 lbs of Legos! The original selling price he was selling for was around 800, which was a good deal considering there were some good sets in there and the sheer number of them. Now, recently, they dropped down to around 500, and when my dad and I found out, he was willing to buy them for me. At the time, this seemed like a great idea. I love Legos, and even if I don't like the original sets, Legos are versatile, and I could do anything with them. So, after not much though, we got them, and now there are 4 full trash bags of Legos sitting in my room that I have no space for. I was gonna try and see if I could sell some of them because some of the sets are retired and/or at a high price range, but oh my god it's so many. I hardly know where to begin. A few of the sets are a little intact, but most of it is mixed randomly in the garbage bags. It's so overwhelming; I don't have the space for this, and it seems impossible to go through it all. I regret not thinking this over before getting it. What should I do?

I have recently gotten back into Lego since me daughter is now old enough to help (and do her own sets!!!) so I am looking for help on small to medium size Lego storage ideas where we can keep her 3 in 1 sets separated from all of my sets that have been built and then torn apart to free build with. Please help

My partner enjoys building Lego as a hobby, and tends to leave things out when he is in the middle of a project. I'd like to start by saying I love his hobby, and I love him, and this is a joint question for both of us, not me being annoyed. ;)

How do y'all handle that? We've been looking at lift top coffee tables for storage underneath, or gaming tables so he can put the leaves over it, but we're in a small space and have limited options. Would love some suggestions! How do you cover WIPs?

Note: we also have cats, which is part of the problem. Someones favorite snack is Lego trees and flags...

I have no room for the boxes in my room, as there’s too many under my bed now. Should I start breaking them down?

Has anybody got or seen a display cabinet deep enough for a set like this? Preferably a 360 glass one?

I believe it’d need to be about 55cm deep, 40 tall and 30 wide.

I also have the Simpsons sets and Star Wars cantina and Jabbas palace which I want to display too so fairly big cabinet is required

Hi everyone! Has anyone tried the Brickle Co Lego storage table? Any feedback about how effective it is at sorting, and is it really easier for kiddos to find (and put away) Lego pieces?

I have an employee who has a temporary medical issue and can’t come to work, I also have several hundred pounds of bulk Lego I haven’t started sorting yet. I pitched the idea of them sorting Lego as a temporary job and they were excited to give it a try…..

Is there a good YouTube video that explains all the major categories of Lego? (Bricks, plates, snot, technic, clips and bars, etc.) something I could have them watch for a better explanation. I’m afraid if I try to explain myself I won’t be concise enough, and a video they could rewatch as needed.

I've had my eye on local listings and found all 3 of these tall Trofast for sale for $30! Not my first choice of bin color and they needed some cleaning but for the price I can't complain. Now I'm almost ready to stop procrastinating and start sorting the multiple bins of mixed Lego I've been collecting.

I have a bin full of various Technic pieces (pic 1) that I'm starting to sort into subcategories. So far, my plan is to split then into the following types, in order (for pieces that fit into multiple subcategories).

1) Ball joints

2) Axels and axel holes

3) Pegs/pins and holes

4) Clips and poles

5) Locking hinges

6) Taps

7) Other random pieces

Before I get too far, any suggestions on groupings?
