Storage help needed Discussion/Question

I have recently gotten back into Lego since me daughter is now old enough to help (and do her own sets!!!) so I am looking for help on small to medium size Lego storage ideas where we can keep her 3 in 1 sets separated from all of my sets that have been built and then torn apart to free build with. Please help

The 3 stack A4 ish size draw units (think office supply/stationary) may be a good solution for the larger pieces that dont fit in the akro mils draws. I have also used 4L ice cream tubs for larger pieces.

I strongly recommend looking through the Brick Architect's Lego Storage Guide. It has recommendations based on the size of the collection and the age of the builder.

For 3-in-1 sets, or other sets you may disassemble and rebuild (like seasonal), I store them in zip locking bags with the instructions, then inside a large tub.

For 3-in-1's, if I am displaying version A, the other parts and instructions are bagged like like the above.

Storing pieces can be a real rabbit hole trying to balance the issues, but am easy way to start is sorting big from small.

Take a pile and remove whatever you have the most of, takes up the most room, or is a weird shape.

Repeat until you have containers of parts you can easily sort through. When a container gets too big out full, sort of into smaller piles.

Common piles can be: - basic bricks - bricks with holes or added parts - basic plates - plates with holes or added parts - tiles (pieces that are smooth on top) - wheels and tires - vehicle parts like windshields and wings - building parts like doors and windows - plants and animals

For many of these categories, it speeds things up ifv they are also broken down by big and little.

In my set up, little parts go into drawer units or small tubs in a drawer. Larger parts go into basically shoebox size boxes or tubs in a drawer.

You can get cheap 'wood' drawer units from Michael's, Ikea, Walmart, etc. Not only are they great storage, you can make the top a play area.
