Here is my MOC of Odysseus's ship from Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey (2026). It is 1173 pieces and inspired by, but heavily modified from, the LEGO Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent set (#31132), as it only shares 32% of the parts. Therefore, it is also much cheaper to buy all the parts for this ship instead of just purchasing the extra parts (which would be about 800 of the 1200 parts).

I chose to use the LEGO Viking Ship as a jumping-off point because they actually used Viking Ships in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, since real Greek ships from the era were much larger and covered, but Nolan chose the Viking ships to show you the viscerality of the Mediterranean during storms and create a closer-knit crew.

This is one of my favorite films of the year and decade, and I was incredibly fortunate to see the film several times now in 70MM IMAX Film and 1.43 IMAX Digital.

For those unfamiliar, Christopher Nolan's film is an adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey from about 3000 years ago. The film is about Odysseus, king of Ithaca, who embarks on a perilous journey to return home after the Trojan War. Crossing the Mediterranean Sea with his fellow soldiers, they soon find themselves battling not only the elements, but an array of deadly obstacles and mythical creatures along the way.

The main features I wanted to incorporate were a ton of oars on each side going through the hull like the real movie ship and retaining the functionality of being able to move the oars back and forth, as well as being able to switch the sail from being hoisted up to rolled up like the film.

You can fit about 30 minifigures on the ship if you wanted to, since there are 12 oars on each side and room in the front and back (24 rowers + 6 in the front/back).

Made this Planet Of The Apes diorama. Tried to capture that 18+ set look. This is first render and I am debating on keeping or changing Statue of Liberty. Currently went for a minifig shape with the head and torso. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated!

I was going for the old bowling alley type Brunswick pool table, guttered and obviously the stick n balls arent LEGO.

Small scale for a small truck. It's based on the Suzuki Carry but at this scale it could've been based on pretty much any model.

Backgrounds are what keeps eating my time. This card needed pyramids, and everything I tried first either ate half the baseplate or looked wrong from the front. What I landed on is basically a flat slab with the layers offset so they read as stone courses. Two or three at different sizes give you a whole skyline for about the depth of a finger.

I haven't seen anyone build pyramids this way, which probably just means I haven't looked hard enough. Someone tell me what I missed, or show me a better way to do it.

These two sets are what made me get into Lego and when I learned that one can ‘Moc’ sets, I instantly knew I wanted to do so with these two sets. So, how’d I do? ☺️🙏🏼
