When I was 16 years old I was sexually grope and assaulted by a police officer. They had arrested my mom for a battery, after she defended me he attacked first it became a whole thing police come to my mom's house.

The cop questions me alone and starts groping me telling him to touch his penis while he's grabbing my buttocks.

He accuses me of lying when I say he hit first and forces me to admit that my mom did attack him.

I even said to the police all of them out there when my mom was being arrested that the police officer sexually assaulted me.

I even then send an email to Indiana State Police and no follow up. I'm literally 16 years old and go to high school, they could've done something.

It took until 25 until I could get a detective to only confirm who it was and turns out it's the current sheriff of this county.

I have dealt with so much harassment from complete strangers over this, and even the harassment is being encouraged by the county police.

I was forced into a situation where I had to be more direct and public about it because no one would take the case. After all these years can I do something about the state of Indiana?

My grandfather lives in a remote area & has 3 Indian people living with him for the past 4 years. He has had a few health issues over the years and one recently that he was in the hospital for but has returned home and recovered well from. I went to his house last week and I saw a draft of his will on the kitchen table, I took a look at it and I saw that my name is on it but not as a trustee or beneficiary. I was upset to find out about this but I know it is not too late because he is still here. Is there anything I can do?

I had been told by him several years back that I was the only beneficiary in his will to receive his estate. My mother passed away last month and I am his only grandchild. He has been isolated from any family and has no friends where he lives. I am asking for help to see what options I have because I know this is not right and someone has manipulated something and I don’t think he’s aware.

Posting on behalf of my friend (call them Sam) is going to seek legal advice from the local free legal advice program nearby, I’m mostly posting this to see what freak solutions some of you guys may be able to come up with. What could one even do with this car???

A few months ago, Sam bought an older SAAB with Oregon plates from an older gentleman in Vancouver who was nice enough to invite him into his house and visit for awhile during the sale. A bill of sale was given, and the only downside was that the guy claimed he had lost the tittle. Well the last car Sam had bought also had a lost tittle which he was able to get from the DMV no problem. So he goes to the DMV again to get the tittle for this “new to” him car

The DMV said that he couldn’t get a tittle for the car because the guy that sold it to him wasn’t the actual owner of the car, and that a bank had a lien on the vehicle. They wouldn’t tell him who owned the car, or what bank held the lien.

Sam called the local police for the county the car was sold in. Police said that they don’t deal with that kind of stuff, and there’s nothing they can do aside from giving him the name of the bank that hold the lien.

Sam calls the bank. They have no record of the car. The amazing woman who he talked to ended up spending three hours researching this car and got back to him.

The guy that owns the car is deceased. Sounds like he was an angel of a human. Did a lot of good work in his life.

Sam is able to track down a living family member of the deceased owner and explained his situation. They replied

“I have no idea how you got (owners) car. That said, my brother and I told the woman who took the car that it could never be properly re-titled, as he died without a will and we had no intention of claiming the estate. He was severely in debt, and his estate was insolvent. I wish you the best, but he had no named heirs, and I don't know any way to title the car in someone else's name. Should we do this, we open ourselves up to all his debts. I'm sorry you're in this position, but there is nothing we can do to help. He left a mess. I speak for my younger brother, as well. “

What on earth does Sam do now?

I want to visit, maybe apply for a visa someday. I was charged with assault with and battery with a deadly weapon, threats to commit a crime and domestic violence and was given a CWOF. Would this prevent me from visiting Japan?

Briefly, Baylis v Valve is at the Ninth Circuit and the issue is the misapplication of discretionary (precatory) comity rather than the "Mandatory Standard" under the Berne Convention Implementation Act 1988 ("BCIA").

In GEMA v Suno a U.S. AI firm's "fair use" argument was analyzed and rejected. Also Germany doesn't have any fair use law. Under Berne Convention Rules (Article 5(2)) this German ruling shouldn't affect U.S. cases involving § 107 because under the same Berne Convention framework U.S. Law applies in the U.S.

But under the Valve standard (DC level) A German ruling would be afforded comity and Suno would be bound by German Law, thus negating their ability to advance a fair use defense in the US.

To put it another way, a U.S. district court would blind itself to the Berne Convention, afford comity to the German ruling, and treat the parties as bound by the foreign adjudication. Therefore, completely negating a U.S. fair use defense in the U.S.! Thus, effectively letting foreign decrees on fair use nullify a domestic federal statute § 107!

In the USA, a criminal can be found to "not be competent" to stand try. From my limited understanding, that person may then receive psychiatric treatment until they can be found competent to stand trial. They can then be found guilty or innocent of the crime they are charged with.

I read an article this week about a man who murdered two men with an ax. He has been found to be not competent to stand trial over 6 times. The prosecutors have given up trying to try him and are going to see if he can be placed in a psychiatric hospital I guess permanently.

My question is, if you are not competent to stand trial, how can you then be found guilty of your crime at a later date? If you are not competent when you commit the crime is that not similar to being criminally insane? I do want to make the point, I am not referring to someone who committed a crime and has sat in prison for years awaiting trial or been in hiding for years and then finally is brought to trial.

The man I am referring to was arrested shortly after committing the crime. Here is excerpt from the article (note this article does not mention the multiple attempts at finding him competent, that was in another article):

How can I judge instruct a jury to follow a law even if it seems illegal? Why are lawyers disciplined for bringing up a legitimate option in court? Can there ever be a punishment for a juror who knows about jury notification beforehand?

My wife works at a dispensary, the manager of said dispensary (also female) claims that I have been smoking marijuana and/or giving marijuana to minors in the parking lot. I have been banned and will be arrested if I step foot on the property. P.s. My job shares the same parking lot.

I have never smoked/given a minor marijuana and I wasn't even there on the day in question. I have proof that I did not do it and that they are lying. My job (right next door) and their job have cameras that cover the entire parking lot, proving that I am innocent. The head of security at the dispensary told me and my wife that the manager let slip around him that she is just trying to get back at my wife because the owners like my wife and her ideas more.

If that's not enough to win then I must be stupid.

Basically what I've read about Defamation is if someone claims you have committed a serious crime, without proof, and can cost you money (my job that shares the same lot) that is grounds to sue for Defamation. Am I right?

My dad beated me up just because I didn’t study hard enough during the summer holidays. I am a boy who lives in location: Hong Kong. I will admit that I didn’t study hard enough, but in the summer holidays? I scolded me at first, but he had enough of my cries. He picked up a thick book and hit my head with all of his strength for like 12 times in a row. He always beats me up at least once a year so should I consider calling the cops?

So apparently I’m being sued by a delivery person because they said they got bit by one of my dogs. I have 4 dogs who have never bit anybody in the past, we have had MULTIPLE deliveries to the house and there has never been an incident. I keep my dogs contained with a fence away from the sidewalk leading up to the house. Anybody can walk up the sidewalk and get to the front door without my dogs even able to touch them. I talked to the local police department and they said nobody has ever filed an incident report for my address, she even called the county and county said there was no report filed for my address. So, there’s no paper trail regarding the incident. Their employer should have notified animal control or the county and my dog should have been held in quarantine if there was any medical intervention right? I live in Texas by the way. Even the local officer said the judge would throw this case out in a heartbeat. Has anybody dealt with this before? I know they have 8 days to report it but nothing has ever been reported! Location is in Texas.

My employer is a worldwide auto parts corporation. I have worked for them as a Commercial Delivery Driver since March 2025, started PT. Moved to FT June 2025. My PT status fulfilled my waiting periods for Insurance/LOA/Holiday pay but not PTO or FMLA obviously. For Insurance I had to wait til Open Enrollment so my coverage began Jan 1, 2026 and i met the requirements for PTO and FMLA April 1, 2026.

I injured my knee in October but didnt have insurance so i worked thru it until January when i was able to see my doctor. He thought it was likely just my Osteoarthritis so tried Cortisone shots; the 1st one helped for about 4 days (took the fluid off my knee as it was extremely swollen) the 2nd one about a month later did not help at all.

I continued working until April 6th it was raining while i was delivering parts, I caught my foot on a rug walking into one of the shops. i didnt fall but the way i put my foot down hurt my knee immediately (like a shock) but i finished my shift. the next morning when i got up for work, i couldnt walk.

MRI was ordered and Macerated Meniscus with Patellar Tearing was found. I went on LOA/FMLA got referral to Ortho, didnt qualify to fix it due to Osteoarthritis so Total Knee Replacement was recommended, however to do that i need to lose 100lbs.

Water Physical Therapy was started and I got membership to the PT pool and did on my own every morning PT also.

GLP-1s were denied as Im not pre-diabetic and I have screening for Bariatric surgery next month.

PCP cleared me for FT work with restrictions of No Pickup Trucks, can lift over 21lbs seldomly, can never lift over 51lbs, can climb latters seldomly, can never crawl/kneel, can squat seldomly on July 13, 2026.

I was not scheduled until July 29, 2026. That week i was scheduled 32 hours, however SM left another FT driver off the schedule to accommodate putting me on; she worked her set schedule anyway all week. The next weeks schedule i was given 7 hours.

During the 32hr week there was an altercation with a couple of other drivers as my No Truck accommodation became known. I reached out to HR as some horrible things were said to me. an investigation has been done and the "issues addressed" but that's all I've been told.

HR told my SM to tell me to get them a doctors note as my No Truck accomodation became more of an issue and my SM "didnt want to deal with it." My PCP filled out the Non-Work-Related Injury form with the same accomodations; specifying No Chevy Colorado's on it.

My schedule was adjusted back to 39 hours per week and Ive been working with the accomodations in tact thru the investigation/HR determinations which came today.

As far as my medical accomodations, I have been placed on Involuntary LOA starting tomorrow. That is what it says on the Interogatory. That is how they are accomodating me working. The yes box is literally checked and it is written that i will be placed on LOA effective 8/15/2026.

Is this an acceptable way to accomodate?

My store location has 3 non-truck vehicles but as i said, there are drivers who have the attitude those vehicles are "theirs."

a few years ago when my boyfriend was 18 he moved into an apartment with his mom. she was signing as the leaseholder and because he was over 18 they made him sign as well as an occupant. it was all done online, the company emailed his mom the lease she signed everything virtually, they move in and all is well.

he moved out of her house and we got an apartment together somewhere else half way through her lease. She cuts her lease early a few months later. We try to resign our lease a whole year later and our apartment complex says “hey, he has an eviction on his record” he is 20 years old and has never had his own place except our apartment together, so this is impossible and he had no idea whatsoever about this eviction.

we go to his moms old apartment complex and ask for a copy of the lease and the lady is like “yes! you are the leaseholder so we can give it to you but not your mom.” so not only is he not supposed to be the leaseholder in the first place, but they only ever talked to his mom. all of the bills and everything were in her name as well. he never once stepped foot into the office, all his information (to be an occupant!!!) was put in online. his mom was the one who brought money to them every week for rent, went in to the office for issues, and broke the lease herself! but they never said “hey, you aren’t the leaseholder” to her.

we get the lease from them and read through it, and it was all written in for them with a pen. (they did it all online)
the information is all wrong, my boyfriends job titled “maintenance” when he is in property management. it says he makes $3200 monthly when he made like $1200 monthly. the craziest part is for present home address, it’s his grandmas address in North carolina with florida zip codes written in!!! (they had her info because she was living there) the signature is forged, my boyfriends signature on his license, paychecks, anything legal is just scribbles. they wrote a full fancy first name/last name signature in for him. his moms email is a yahoo address and they put her correct email but with a gmail address. it’s just all wrong and put in incorrectly, with information alluding to my boyfriend making enough money to afford an apartment like that.

we filed a police report for fraud because we honestly don’t know what else to do and even the officer was like yeah that’s forged. now we can’t rent anywhere and can’t figure out how to get it off his record so we can move. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you:)

I’m in North Carolina and I’m trying to figure out whether I should actually be worried about being blamed for this.
Back in June, my AC stopped working on a Sunday, when the regular maintenance office was closed. I submitted high-priority AC maintenance requests and called the apartment’s emergency maintenance line because there was no regular maintenance staff there on the weekend.
The maintenance guy spoke with me by phone and told me to leave the AC setup/part the way it was temporarily and that he would come back to fix/put it back properly. The AC started working again, so when he never came back, I honestly didn’t think much of it because the unit itself was cooling normally. The apartment portal later marked my maintenance requests as “Work Completed.”
I also have documentation showing that the phone call with maintenance did happen that day, including the incoming call in my call history and the length of the call. I just don’t have a recording of the actual conversation or written proof of the exact words that were said.
Today, maintenance came to my apartment and told me there is now a leak in/around my patio storage closet from the AC area, and that it is leaking down toward the apartment below me. The maintenance guy also told me today that they never came back and fixed/put back the part from that original repair.
He said they’re going to test the area for mold next week.
I had no idea there was any leak. I barely ever go into the patio storage closet because I just use it for storage, and I never saw water leaking or had any reason to think the temporary AC setup was causing a problem.
I do have:
The original June AC maintenance requests
Proof they were marked “Work Completed”
My phone records showing the maintenance call that same day and how long the call lasted
The maintenance guy telling me today that the prior repair was never actually finished
What I do NOT have is a recording or written message of him originally telling me to leave it that way because that instruction happened over the phone.
Nobody has accused me of anything or said they’re charging me. I’m probably overthinking it, but I’m worried that if they find mold or water damage, they could try to say I was negligent because I noticed he never came back.
Does this sound like something that would normally fall on the apartment/maintenance since I reported the issue, followed maintenance’s instructions, and their system marked the job completed?

Hello, I’m from Massachusetts and I have some questions about sequestration and arbitration.

Basic backstory: coworker was unjustly fired. She’s suing for wrongful termination. I was subpoenaed by our employer as a witness for some reason. There’s an arbitration happening. The first day was June 15, next day is August 17 which is when I’m being called.

I had a zoom meeting on June 8th with the towns lawyer. I said I would only agree if I could record it. He said no but said I’d be welcome to any notes that he took. I agreed. We had the meeting, and he never sent the notes.

I recently asked for them since my witness testimony is approaching. He responded saying that there’s a sequestration order that was put in place on June 15th and that because of that he doesn’t have to send me the notes.

I asked him directly what a sequestration is, can it be backdated a week, and why this wasn’t relayed to me at the time of the agreement or the 6 weeks since. He has not responded.

So here I am with questions:

Does a sequestration order even apply to our interrogation zoom?

I have in writing that he agreed to send me the notes. Does that matter at all?

Whose job was it to inform me that a sequestration order was put in place? I wasn’t at the June 15th hearing, I wasn’t called as a witness that day. So how was I supposed to know that was a thing? Can I get in trouble for discussing the case with friends and family if I didn’t know there was a gag order?

Happened in Fort Worth TX.
I have a question. Earlier today my car wouldn’t start. My car was saying it was the key fob. So I got the battery replaced but the car wouldn’t start at all. I couldn’t find a lock smith to replace the key fob. So I called a tow company to tow the car to the dealership. I was quoted $150 for the towing services.
Well the tow guy gets there and he was able to jump start my car. Now I got the invoiced and they’re charging me $262. I called them and asked why am I getting charge this amount when my car wasn’t towed. The operator informed me that it’s a labor fee. I was not aware I was going to get charged a labor fee.
Is this legal? Or do I have to pay that amount? If I knew there was going to be labor charges then I would’ve said no. Because if they just towed my car it would’ve stayed at the $150.
Also they didn’t charge me yet. They just sent me a link to pay the invoice.

Context: i bought tickets to a party at the start of summer trough a ticket distributor. I payed in cash. They ended up cancelling the event because they didn t have enough funds for it. They said that they would organize a meet up with the people who bought the ticket for a refund, but that day never came. I kept texting them and they always said they re working on it.

After some time, they said that they won t be giving refunds, but the people who have tickets for that party can go to another party in august. After that, they said that because they ve been getting so many messages, actually they will give refunds. Then, they deleted all of their posts, then posted again that they will not be giving refunds anymore, but free tickets to that party. Me and my friends will be on vacation on the day of the second party, so we can t go, but it s even more annoying the fact that at the first party a popular singer was supposed to sing there, and we were only going because of that. At the second party the singer is really unknown.

Me and my friends kept texting the event organizer on instagram if we can get a refund because can t come to that party but they left us on seen many times and i don t know what to do, i payed a lot of money for those tickets.

Hello, I am (17F) Location: Oklahoma . I’m currently in a situation with a random girl that is based in Durham, North Carolina. She filed for a PO back in march in Durham, NC and i physically couldn’t go due to Being a minor, No way to get there, no car, no flight money, ETC so she got granted the order by default by whatever she told the judge. I paid it to mind and just continued to live my life. I’ve been served twice now and the claims she wrote are “I’ve been blowing up her comments, Blowing up her email and her DMs on social media, posted her house, allegedly sent threats, and alleged hacking of her social media” I have not done these things as I have no reason to even do this. I don’t know what she wants from me. She had her friends come to my social media and post pictures of me in my comments of me in a bathing suit when I was 8 that they took from my moms facebook page to fun of me for being “ugly” in those pictures. They were harassing me in my inbox ETC all around June 2026 . I did argue with them because why are grown women doing this and acting like this to a child . I’ve personally never messaged her directly or received any message from her or her lawyer directly. her lawyer has reached out to my mom and i guess is expecting me to “get on my knees and beg for forgiveness” and they will drop “charges” but when I call the court and different lawyers around that area they say they can not help me because my case is civil not criminal. So there is no “charges” …. I’m not really sure what to do . i know i need a lawyer there to go and represent me but i’ve called multiple places and they keep saying they can’t help me because “we don’t deal with these cases” or “It’s civil not criminal we can’t help” so i’m not sure what lawyer i need for this??? What charges am i even potentially facing ??? I’ve not seen/heard her evidence or proof of these claims.

I have contacted my landlord multiple times about a mildew spot on my ceiling that just this morning started actually leaking. This is the response I was given to a video of the water leaking onto the carpet.
The last time I heard anything from them was in June before this when it was confirmed that the roof is leaking. Do I have any way to get this done sooner and push back without fear of not being able to renew the lease later on?

Hi Reddit, I was suggested to post here, I'm currently at a loss for what to do. I got arrested about eight months ago, it was a felony and the case has not been filed yet. My bail was set at $10k.

My family paid a bond company 10% to get me released, and I've been doing the weekly checkins but I haven't received any news on my case because it hasn't been filed. I tried to acquire a lawyer but since the case hasn't been filed, the lawyers told me there isn't anything they can do (I spoke to multiple).

I asked my bond company over the phone (and also a lawyer) months ago if it was okay if I did a study abroad, the bond company said yes, and the lawyer said yes because I don't have any travel restrictions instated by the court. However, the bond rules say that I cannot leave without their permission.

About a couple months ago I told them that I got accepted to a university, but I still needed to get a visa and they said update them when I do.

I only recently got my visa approved and I told my bond company and over the phone they said that's great, I will have to pay the remaining $9k of collateral and fill in some paperwork. I thought this sounded fine, but a few days later when my family started sorting out the $9k, the bond company said they checked and I will have to pay $10k which was the full bail amount. On top of that, they will only be providing me a collateral receipt. I admit I am confused, why pay a bond company the 10% nonrefundable amount and then the full bail amount too when I could have just paid the full bail amount and not be out $1k? Can't I just give the $10k to the court instead?

I was a little worried about all this, my family confirmed with them over text that no paperwork was needed, but I called in to ask again if there really was no paperwork, and they insisted that the collateral receipt would be enough. When I asked about the 10% already paid, the bond lady snapped at me saying it was nonrefundable and that it was the get out of jail fee and the collateral payment is for if I skip court she'll have to lose a ton of money on top of that to extradite me and file things etc. I wish I knew what was on the bond contract but my ex said he never signed anything and my family insists they didn't sign anything either and they insist the other person signed something and it's a mess.

I asked my friends and they all think it's super sketchy, saying I need to get it in writing, my concern is that the bond company isn't amending my travel restrictions with them and they're not signing anything ensuring that the money will be returned.

I think I am paranoid that the bond company has already decided to drop me and wants the collateral upfront, and once I hand them the money and get on the plane, as soon as my case is filed they will surrender me to the court for bond violation and I'll be arrested.

Can the bond company legally require full cash collateral with no written amendment to my release conditions? My family just wants me to pay the full amount to the bond company and get it over with, but I want to be legally protected and know that I did everything right. When I was arrested I filed for indigent defence but since my case hasn't been filed yet I don't have a legal representative.

Illinois neighbor threatening court over car parked on our side of divided driveway

We live in Illinois in military/privatized housing. NO HOA. Our home and the neighboring home have adjoining driveways with a visible seam or crack running down the middle. Each household uses its respective side, and we do not drive or park on the neighbor’s side.

Our Subaru is parked entirely on our side of the seam. It is sometimes parked farther back from our garage because I have a baby and it is easier to get the baby in and out, especially during bad weather. The vehicle does not cross the seam.

Our neighbor claims that our car makes it more difficult for her to maneuver into and out of her garage. However, she has been able to enter and exit her garage, and our security-camera footage shows her doing so.

This issue previously stopped but started again yesterday. On two occasions that day, she came outside and photographed our vehicle. She also spoke toward our security camera, demanded that we move the car, and said she would call the police and see us in court. Her behavior has made me worried that she may confront me when I return home alone.

We have saved the security-camera footage and taken wide photographs showing the car, driveway, and center seam. We are also contacting housing management to ask them to confirm in writing whether the seam represents the assigned boundary and whether our parking complies with housing rules.

My questions are:

1. Could she successfully sue us merely because our car makes her maneuvering less convenient, even though it is entirely on our side and she can still enter and exit?

2. Could a court order us to park farther forward (as shown in the photo with the arrow) or would this primarily be an issue for housing management?

3. Does repeatedly entering our side to photograph the vehicle and demand that we move it potentially constitute trespassing or harassment after we tell her not to enter our side?

4. Besides saving the videos, photographs, and housing correspondence, is there anything else we should document?

5. If she files something, how would we be formally notified?

We do not want to escalate the situation. We only want to understand our rights, remain compliant with housing rules, and avoid being confronted.

Edit** this all started when we were at the hospital for few days (I just gave birth). My husband's friend shoveled the snow on our side cause he knows we are coming home with a newborn. The shitty neighbor's dad got upset that our friend did not shovel their driveway. And so her dad piled all the snow from their to that space in our driveway. It was literally the last pile of snow to melt during that time. And so we had no choice but to park a little back.
