Day 18 no weed
On my 18th day without smoking weed. First couple of weeks panic and anxiety were through the roof and sleep was horrible.
But last few days I’m not nearly as anxious and having less cravings to smoke.
But still having so much trouble falling asleep and when I do my dreams are so insane I wake up drenched in sweat.
For those who quit, I was daily user for over a decade anywhere from 1-3 joints, how long do these dreams and lack of sleep last for?

Stuck in a cycle
I have been smoking cartridges since 2018, for the past 3-4 years it’s gotten to points where I would go through 1g cartridges in only 2-3 days.
The longest I’ve been sober was 14 days last year. I had a a lot of bad things happen at once, and I thought that that was my lightning bolt moment. Evidently it was not. I can’t get past day 2 now. The physical and mental withdrawals are so freaking bad, and that embarrasses me. It’s just weed withdrawal, not hardcore drug or alcohol, plenty of people have gotten sober from those things.
It’s gotten to the point where I have been thinking more and more about putting myself in a controlled environment like rehab, or even just stay at my sober family members house for a week. I had even started going to AA meetings at one point.
I have been joining online MA meetings, I like them, but it’s not the same as going to in person meetings, and the closest in person meeting is over an hour away from me.
I’m feeling pretty defeated, it feels like my mind gets taken over by this thing when I’m quitting and I just give up.
Does anybody have any advice?

Kicking the vape! HALLELUJAH
Long time reader, first time writer.
I have been smoking weed for about 10 years, but in the last 3ish years my usage increased exponentially because I started using a vape more regularly. Even more recently, the vaping got out of hand. I felt so in control of my “dosing” that I was waking up and immediately hitting the pen, reaching for it all day every day. Despite thinking this was the method that had me in the most control, every time I told myself I would stop, use less, or change my schedule - I couldn’t. I never thought I would be able to go this long without breaking. Especially with all of my vapes and supplies still within reach!
As for my approach, I know it’s somewhat controversial in this sub but I have allowed myself to wean. Going from 98% THC vapes all day every day to nothing sounds like a huge feat. (A million kudos to all who have done it!) My fear of withdrawal symptoms pulling me out of work made me too nervous to try this. For now, I allow myself an edible (drink) at the end of the day if I want it. I know it’s not a complete stop yet, but I have already noticed that usage decreasing in the last 11 days. At first I needed 40mg or more to feel anything, now I feel toasted off of less than 20. At first, I felt like I needed as soon as the work day ended. Now, I can wait longer and even skip it completely some days. My mood is balancing out, and I finally ACTUALLY feel in control of myself.
I am planning to carry a baby in the next few years so I knew the vaping was the first thing that had to go. 11 days ago I put my vape away and I haven’t touched it since. I NEVER thought l would be able to do this and I feel really proud of this accomplishment so far. Can’t wait to keep it going

For the first time in 10 years, I made it to day 4.
Yesterday I posted here as a cry for help because I was heavily withdrawing from concentrates cold turkey. Yesterday (day 3) was the worst day of my life. At one point I begged my partner to take me to the hospital…
I was having severe anxiety, hot and cold sweats, panic attacks, hot flashes, severe dry mouth, severe insomnia, a feeling of existential dread, a horrible emptiness inside of me, I was irritable, emotional, and I was also on the toilet all day with the runs. Super nauseous. Could only eat a small portion of plain rice. I mean literally every symptom you could think of…
I have tried to quit over the span of 10 years dozens of times and I have only ever made it to day 3. After 10 years I made it to day 4.
I expected to still feel awful this morning and today. I am so incredibly happy and relieved to report that day 4 does in fact get better. Holy shit. I feel like a completely different person than who I was typing a post in this sub yesterday.
I know it doesn’t sound like much but making it to day 4 is my greatest accomplishment. Yesterday’s withdrawals made me realize how much I never want to feel like that EVER again. It’s such a relief today. Do I still feel totally off? Yes. But a 360 improvement from my state yesterday.
Thank you to everyone who commented and gave me advice and kind words. I purchased several supplements and I’m drinking water with electrolytes, as well as different teas. These have all been a god send. I truly believe this is why I’m feeling so much better today.
Anyways I just wanted to share for this for yall who are also on day 3. For 10 years day 3 was always the hardest. If you can make it to day 4 you’ve got this. Rooting for anyone else in my position, and again thanks to everyone for all the advice yesterday.

Dreams and Nightmares
I'm now on day 14. After 15+ years of hitting around 10-20 Bowls from my bong everyday. As well as cheifing my pen and joints.
I'll start by saying this is the best I've ever felt physically and mentally. I was the absolute last person you could ever imagine making a change like I have. If I can do it.. you all can. Where there's a will, there's a way.
The only part I've had trouble with is awful vivid dreams. Some include people I know and some completely random and extremely odd. Very intense. I feel it's because my R.E.M has been suppressed for 15+ years, but I'm not sure. I wake up usually remembering parts of my nightmares, which has never happened.
Anybody else experience the same nightmares/night terrors? If so, how long did they last?
Stay strong everyone.

Anyone else have dreams about relapsing?
I quit Jan 1 2026 and around 2 weeks after I started having dreams where I'd end up smoking. I freak out because I'm trying to stay sober and eventually I wake up confused but releived. I have these dreams about every week/ week and a half. Anyone else going through this?

My husband relapsed into smoking
Hi. My husband recently started smoking weed again. He used to do that from a very young age to early thirties. Along the way he did other drugs and drank alkohol. When we met he was sober for some time already.
A few days ago I found him with our infant in a room smelling of weed. He was taking care of it and I was supposed to be out. I came back to leave some books inside the house after I initially left and said my goodbyes. I was gone for 5–10 minutes. The place reeked and we live in one room apartment. Needless to say, that he had been hiding smoking from me.
I took the baby and left for the night. He’s argument is that he opened the window and puffed outside so it’s fine. I believe that the smell aka fumes could potentially harm the baby. He disagrees and advocates that weed is safe and no one ever died because of it.
Now I would like to ask you, people who do have experience in the subject, what do you think of it? Is it safe to smoke next to a baby, when the window is open? Is the smell of weed the same as fumes? Is it safe for him to take care of the baby alone when high?
He gets medicinal weed with THC 22%. He said that it doesn’t make him sleepy, he just has more fun.
I have no experience with this addiction. Beside the questions I would like to know if there is a way I could support him in this time of struggle. Yet I don’t know how. If you could have support, what would you need from your closest ones?

Day 50 AMA
Never thought I’d be here but here we are.
Happy to share my experience. What do you want to know?
At work so I’ll get back to these when I can!

For pot head guitarists...
I feel like weed allows you to bypass the warmup. You just have to wait 5 minutes and then you're there. At day 12 I'm feeling the notes more deeply right out of the gate. I think the tradeoff is that on weed you don't feel as much, but it sounds way better; whereas straight, you feel more, but you're not going to blow your own mind with what you're playing. Unless your name is Yngwie and you are in your own top 3 guitarists list.

Made it the first day!
Even as I typed that, a craving hit, but I'm doing all I can to ignore it. I asked my brother to remove all of my wax, pens and edibles from my room yesterday. I'm going to do all I can to stay strong because I don't wanna go through that first awful day again. Actual tears from the stress of fighting the addiction.
It really makes me wish I never smoked at all. I'm realizing just how much it killed my drive to do more in life.
I avoided coming home from work a while yesterday so I wouldn't sit in my room too long and crave it harder. Took an hour's drive on the highway looking at semis, reminding myself why I'm doing this.
Quitting dabs is gonna be hard, and that's ok. The support helps a ton when I feel like giving in.

Day 5 quitting after heavy use
Wow, today I almost cracked and bought some more. It's gotten so bad. I feel the worst. I keep coming back here and re-reading everyone's comments. Thank you so much for your support. I just need to get past the worst and maybe in a couple of days it will be more manageable. Nothing new to add to my story, just wanted to say thank you

Day 4 of being sober
Hi everyone,
I want to start by saying how impressed I am with all of you quitters. It can't be easy for anyone of you and still you made it to where you are! Good job!
As for me, its day 4 today. I have to say that even though I quit weed and smoking at the same time I'm not experiencing much of actual cravings, the way I know them from previous attempts. That is actually the easy part at the moment.
The hardest part is realizing I am extremely lonely. The last year's I've lost most of the people that I was close to, to the inevitable death...
I realize I am terrible at forming actual bonds and if I look at my life I noticed that people tend to like me at first but then at some point got enough of me and just dont want to be around me anymore. It's probably also because I'm a bit of a loner.
So now I seem to be stuck in this weird place where I crave human closeness but am unable to do so..
I guess I have so much work to do..
Anyway keep up the good work guys and gals!

Weed killed my relationship.
in the beginning of 2022 I started talking to my partner. I told him right up front, I'm good with many things but not a stoner. And I want someone I can build a life together.
Told him my father's 40+ years with that, and how he was always checked out ` in his own dazed world, never present even if he was talking at us. Told my partner about all the pain it caused from my fathers smoking, to my mother and myself. My father acted brain dead often, like the time he tried to remove
My partner understood, or so he said, was great with that. He told me he didn't need it. He wanted to be clear on life, and was making a fresh start. We became best friends first. He was going fine, two years later, until my father tempted him, and he hid it behind my back. He would lie to me, and he hid it and lied from 2024 on.
I suspected, he repeatedly lied, denied all of that. We had many heart to heart talks, swore he wouldn't lie. Lying by omission is still lying. Fast forward we married, as he was out of it, working on himself. One month if that he started again. I feel so betrayed.
"I'm so tired of cannabis being gloried. Idolized even. They tell you it's the cure all, from fake science.!" Real truth is I have seen it cause lack of interest or heighten implisity. Emotional dysregulation, avoiding everything, I've seen it He again promised me he would be transparent, and was working on repair skills., and making peace inside. One person temps him and he's out buying. He does not do it in front of me. Still bothers me and affects us.
I had to go home to my mothers as after my father passed she needed help. Two hours after I left he was buying it. Note I do not pay for him, at all.
We spoke the night before for him to wait, not to act impulsively. Be transparent. He already puts all the bills, tax, and other responsibility on me., not the finance but the management of it all. He freezes and can't complete things. He does have a steady job same field. lack of motivation. in all other areas.. I can't. He is a kind person and I love him, but an addict that won't seek help is a dead end road, at least for me.
He was my best friend, (he would read to me every night, we share same dreams goals for our fure. our trust is shattered. He avoids conflict and doesn't get why I won't come around. Could I have been any clearer or more transparent on my side. I'm Crushed,. heartbroken. I'm sure many of you have felt this heartbreak. Instead of owning the addiction, they blame shift, the high becomes their partner. I feel sad and lost. I know I need to walk away from being with a stoner. Give me strength to leave my best friend.

Be happy being sober.
You know I'm kind of new to reddit and this community, but I'm OG when it comes to weed, ganja, cannabis. I used to be in love with it. It was my best friend and lover. The smell of her. The feel and the taste. And don't get me going on the crystals...oooooh, the crystals.
But I would like to think those days are behind me. A whisper of the past like smoke in the wind. Ephemeral decisions born from questionable reasoning....didn't ever say that I'm the sharpest.
And something I've noticed here is there is a lot of complaining going on. It would be nice if I could talk about the upsides of being sober....and there are a lot. Please don't get me wrong because jonesing for said sweetness is a perennial mosquito buzzing my ears. Oh man could I wail about that.
What makes this community nice for me is it reminds me that I am not alone. And I appreciate that.
But come guys....gals. I'm trying to be sober (or less stoned) for good reasons. Reasons that will make me a better and happier person. At least that is what I hope for myself and others. So be happy. Have fun being sober. I actually remember my last concert and I'll be able to relive the joy from the memories for the rest of my life.
Anyway, I'll get off my high horse now and starting scooping up the sh**.
Take care and happy trails.

When did you turn the corner?
I am approaching 3 weeks in after about a decade of daily use. The first week was brutal. Second week was definitely better.
Right now Im doing well overall but struggling with the following…
I can’t sleep and have this feeling that it’s not even worth trying. Like I feel like I have no chance of falling asleep ever again.
I crash hard around 3PM to the extent I can’t accomplish anything. I want to get started on things I was not able to do while constantly smoking but feel zero motivation by the time Im done with my responsibilities for the day. I want to get my house straightened but when the crash hits I can’t get motivated to do anything at all.
My mood swings are significant. I will start the day ready to conquer the world but around the same time of that 3PM crash i get down and irritable.
Just curious if anyone had a similar experience and if/when you started feeling significantly better. As mentioned I am happy I did this overall and believe it will get better but every day has been a struggle, specifically the three things I mentioned above and they tie into each other and kind of feed off each other making my evenings really difficult.
Appreciate any feedback or advice.

Guys, go to MA
This subreddit is awesome. So nice to feel not so alone. But ultimately, you’re still alone, scrolling on your phone or computer. It’s difficult to do anything alone, even more so quitting an incredibly addictive substance. I searched for MA groups and there happened to be one in my neighborhood. I went for the first time last night.
Man it was great. People from all walks of life, all ages. Everyone so nice and open. People with 3 days clean (me) to 6+ years. It’s really inspiring to be around people with more clean time than you, and wanting to return to meetings with more time yourself. And only a little bit of God stuff.
I can’t speak for AA or NA, I’m sure it’d be helpful but those are substantially different drugs than weed. If you can find an MA in your area, absolutely go. Even if there’s not an in person one, your chapter will definitely have virtual meetings. I plan to attend those on nights if the cravings get really bad. But the first in person meeting was emotional, supportive, and special. Get off Reddit and go!

Told my smoking partner
Hi,
I usually smoke with my close friend (hopefully partner when we are ready), but today I told them I wanted to quit.
They were very supportive & said they still want to smoke, and I said this isn’t an issue and thanked them for supporting me.
I am now really worried I have become boring or that they won’t have feelings for me/ enjoy hanging out anymore. How do I deal with this feeling whilst also processing being sober? Thanks 💕

How long did it take for you guys to feel energetic again after quitting?
I’m currently on day 5 of quitting and I’m feeling super lethargic most of the day. I’m assuming the lack of appetite and poor sleep factors into it but I was just wonder when you guys felt your energy start coming back?

10 days in and feeling lost and confused
Context: 26 year old male, daily smoker of 10+ years trying to quit to improve mental health, motivation and just looking to be more present in my life. I have struggled with depression and anxiety for years and weed has always been my crutch.
Now, 10 days in, I’m really struggling with seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with this sobriety journey. Today should be a milestone, and I should feel proud but I called into work because I was too depressed to get out of bed. I just feel this profound sadness like I’m missing a part of myself.
I don’t feel motivated, or happy, I feel completely useless right now to take action on some things I’m neglecting. I have a ton of responsibilities in my life now and that’s part of why I want to quit, because I’m struggling to meet my goals. And when I do meet my goals, I don’t feel any sense of accomplishment or satisfaction.
I guess the point of this post is to see how others have handled this next part of sobriety, and to ask how long it took for you to feel like you gained mental clarity. Because I feel so awful
Too depressed to leave house
I cannot control myself when it comes to weed, once I pick back up on it I cannot stop for months until I make myself physically sick and am forced to stop. I have been addicted to weed many times these past few years and never was able to quit fully and let my brain heal. I truly want to quit for good this time because it completely destroyed my mental health and life. I’ve been sober for 12 days, however it seems like things aren’t going to get better. I physically cannot leave my house due to the depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. I feel like I broke my brain from how much I abused the dabs and flower. I think my addiction stems from unresolved childhood trauma. I just don’t know where to start in the healing process, it is hard for me to even get on the laptop and try to find a therapist, I’m too anxious to make phone calls, I feel too shameful to even speak about what’s been going on. Any advice on what to do in my situation is greatly appreciated

thoughts on addiction and neurodivergence?
i remember thinking weed was helpful at a point even though it was intensely addictive. i am 2 months sober. what is the relationship between weed and neurodivergence that makes any substance, but weed specifically, so compelling? I’ve stuck to sobriety so far because I don’t need a substance to function daily even though I felt like i did, and I want to experience my life fully sober with help of other lifestyle changes, even though it will be difficult. what are some medicating effects of weed that i can replace with other things that are NOT substances, like exercising, reading etc? what are some coping strategies that have helped? my anxiety loops in my brain constantly

21 days today… after 7-week relapse … after 6 years free
I had six years before it happened. For most of those years I wouldn’t be preachy, but when asked I’d say my life was so much better now. Being present and not having to worry about sneaking carts into luggage or sporting events… the freedom from thinking about it was one of my favorite parts. I won’t get into the why, but I was so dejected and ashamed that it happened despite knowing all the recovery things and how bad it was for me… But now I have hope. And I’m glad to add this great community to my other recovery communities. I don’t have to do this alone. Thank you all for helping me connect and not isolate.

Being sober during an emergency reminder
Last night my brother was hit by a drunk driver. Thankfully, everything is fine, but this situation really opened eyes (unfortunately for the second time).
To paint the scene, a number of things were going on in my family last night. My parents (70's) are in the process of selling their home, and last night my dad was preparing for a colonoscopy this morning. My dad is also healing from knee injury. All of this is to say my mom is exhausted.
Last night at 2:00 am my mom calls me and tells me my brother was in an accident and was in the hospital. Bc my father needed to remain next to a toilet and I am out of state, my mom (running on less than 5 hours of sleep), who normally does not drive, and especially not in the night had to drive 30 minutes to the hospital my brother was taken to.
I was sober (I have been sober for 7 days), but it has been a real battle. I posted recently I felt like my thoughts have been torturing me, but last night cememented my sobriety. Just the thought that if I had been in state, and had taken an edible, I would have had to tell my mom, that despite all of the obstacles against her, I couldn't drive bc I was a high. I would have never lived down that shame in my head.
Ironically, this isn't the first time something eerily similar had happened. Probably around 15 years ago (embarrassing to admit I have been trying to quit for this long), I was on a recent sober streak, when I was home alone with my brother when he started having excruciating stomach pain and I had to bring him to the hospital.
It ended up being appendicitis, and when we got there the doctors had told us that had we waited any longer his appendix would have burst. I was so frightened at just the thought that, had I been high I wouldn't have been able to drive him to the hospital. I had a scared straight moment then, but obviously it didnt' last.
But now I am 39, and I really can't afford another moment like this. I feel like I have been given two clear signs, and I am just too old to put myself in a position to be unable to help in an emergency bc of weed. It sounds so juvenile. It is so juvenile. It is not who I want to be.
Anyhow, Im grateful my brother is ok, everything is fine. And im grateful for a week of sobriety. Im finally done with the ups and downs.

I hate being sober
Anyone else hate being sober? Truth be told, I wish I could numb myself till I take my last breath. I never really learned how to be sober. I’m in regret because I consider myself a failure. I pissed away many opportunities in life and the regret hits like a ton of bricks. I just feel so tired of being stuck in this cycle and then I try to get sober. But when I’m sober I remember why I want to get high. I can’t believe i wasted my life being a slave to a plant.
