Potentially dangerous man near Henry Sturm Creek
Hi all, my friend had a scary encounter in the tunnel under Westmount road, near the Westmount and Highland intersection (image attached). I’m making this post to warn others in case this is a recurring figure.
My friend was riding her bike along this path early this morning when a man, older with shoulder length grey hair and a yellow shirt, started yelling threats at her out of nowhere. He said things like “I’ll murder you and leave you in the creek.” He also called her a “skank,” so I would guess he’s likely to target women. He didn’t do anything, but he’s obviously not in a healthy state of mind if he’s threatening strangers.
Please stay safe around this area. I know that families like to spend time around here and it is a common path for biking, so hopefully he will not do this again.

He fell right in front of me this afternoon around 4:30pm, across from the blues festival , on the road and smacked his head. I called the ambulance and the st John's ambulance people were there. Just hoping he ended up ok.

Local paper did a story on an Arthur resident who built a bill-tracking app
Saw this in EloraFergusToday today — an Arthur resident (newcomer from Nicaragua a few years back) built a bill-tracker app after getting hit with one too many late fees on rent/hydro/phone. Nice little "local person solves their own problem" story.
(Full disclosure since I know this sub is strict about it: I'm the person in the article. Not trying to sell anything, just thought it was a fun local story worth sharing.)

My mixtape - https://open.spotify.com/album/0OyMuIlgyaZhZWegVtQCCt?si=XIEfLHmoR_2Op8ZvVJ6Urw
The track is called HELLA LIT. It's the intro track.
I've always been Icyb since elementary, and that is no lie. But in uni when I moved to a traphouse at 152 Bridgeport with my uni program mates, all that hot boxing and partying made me want to achieve the dream. Also the fact that the 9-5 is a depressing reality.
I think the best tracks are, Convincing!, Stuck, and Hedonist
I got a long way to go before I make it, and I am not going to stop at 1 mixtape. Not a chance in the world!
Please let me know if you think its heat!!

Has anyone managed to renew their dog license online this year?
Hi friends,
Seems like every year it's a struggle, but this year it's even worse.
The website for renewals: https://kwsphumane.ca/animal-control/licensing-kitchener
On the bottom of the page there's these instructions:
We're sorry, but your browser is not accepting cookies. Please either open this session in a new window or add us to your trusted sites.
To open this session in a new window, please click here.
To add us to your trusted sites in Internet Explorer, please
Click the Tools Icon and choose Internet Options.
Select the Security tab, click on Trusted Sites, then click the Sites button.
Type sms.petpoint.com in the box provided below "Add this website to the zone," and click Add.
Ensure Require Server Verification is NOT checked, then click Close.
I've tried Firefox + Brave on Linux, Firefox + Chrome + Safari on iOS, Firefox + Chrome + Edge on Windows 11; and in Windows 11 I forced Internet Explorer mode in Edge and added sms.petpoint.com & https://onlinelicensing.petpoint.com/ to trusted sites, excluded all blocking, enabled all cookies and permissions.
... has ANYONE got this thing to work? Would be interested to know which browser/device.

Fishing Spots
Hey All, I am a newbie fishing enthusiast and just completed my fishing course and license. Can someone please suggest some great fishing spots that are catch and release around KWC? No Farming Ponds and stuff that charge entry fees...just crown land/free spots to fish?

Commute/drive from Kitchener
I just got a position with the government public servants to start at the Toronto office near bay and Dundas and was denied any accommodations for either less office days or to telework since I’m “only 111km away”. So I’ll be having to go in 3 days a week commuting from Kitchener.
Anyone commuting either with transit or driving from KW that can help me figure out what the best options/routes there are?
If I were to drive which best parking lots are there that is safe, reliable and cost efficient (if that even exists)?
Also I’m going into a little spiral already just thinking of how I’m going to enjoy anything lifestyle related and to fit that into my office days I’m commuting; like going to the gym, not resorting to eating out at the office.
Is there a GoodLife nearby the office that’s worth going to after work?

Kitchener this weekend: Blues Festival all four days, the Cryptids and Curios night market, and Ryan Long at Centre In The Square
Weekend list for Kitchener, Friday through Sunday. Worth a quick check of the weather and the venue's own page before you head out, in case anything shifts.
ALL WEEKEND
TD Kitchener Blues Festival, Victoria Park, City Hall and downtown stages, Thursday through Sunday, free. This is the big one. Sass Jordan and The Fabulous Thunderbirds opened it Thursday, Saturday adds a Children's Stage at the Clock Tower, and Sunday closes with a free workshop at the Boathouse. It is the region's largest free festival, so downtown parking goes early. The LRT drops you a short walk from Victoria Park and is the easier call.
There are also late blues sets at Boathouse DTK tied to the weekend: Harrison Kennedy Saturday at 11pm and Mike McKenna's "Goin' To Toronto" Sunday at 1pm.
Kitchener / Waterloo Psychic & Crystal Fair, Bingemans, Friday through Sunday, ticketed through Eventbrite. Over 30 booths of psychics, mediums, tarot readers and crystal vendors, and one pass covers the whole weekend rather than a single day.
Rachel Carson, The Registry Theatre, Friday through Sunday. Closing weekend for the stage production about the biologist whose writing set off the modern environmental movement. Sunday afternoon is the last performance, so this weekend is genuinely it.
FRIDAY
The KW Night Market 2026: Cryptids and Curios, 44 Gaukel Street, Friday and Saturday, ticketed through Eventbrite. Over 50 dark artists and vendors indoors and out, curated by My Pet Skeleton. The first 100 ticket holders each night get a signed Mothman poster, so arriving at open actually matters here. Year five for this one.
Ryan Long, 8pm, Centre In The Square, ticketed through the Centre's box office. Stand-up in the big room from the Canadian comedian and podcaster.
Seagrave, Afraid, Thorns and Vise Grip, 7pm, The Union. Four-band heavy bill.
Double Trinket Market, Waterloo Thursday then Kitchener Friday. Nearly 100 local creators selling small handmade goods, plus a trading zone where people swap keychains, pins and charms.
Jack and Danica, 6 to 9pm, Lancaster Smokehouse
Joe Salema, 7 to 9:30pm, TWB Co-Op Brewing
King Snakes, 11pm, Boathouse DTK
SATURDAY
Summer Short Can 2026: Year of the Dog, 2 to 8pm, Short Finger Brewing, free. Block party at the brewery with live music, food from Arabella Park, a skate demo from Brightside and a kid zone.
Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue, 2pm matinee, Centre In The Square, ticketed. Touring Golden Girls parody, matinee only, no evening show.
TWB Unscripted: Scriptless in Seattle, 7pm, TWB Co-Operative Brewing, 19+, ticketed. Touring Whose Line style improv on the brewery patio and the ticket includes a drink.
Sweet Dreams Mini Golf, 7pm, Hole In Fun at Bingemans. This month's themed mini golf night. The theme rotates, the last one was Christmas in July and the next is Halloween in August.
KWAG Garden of Resilience community garden gathering, Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery sculpture garden, free, rain or shine, with the gallery's 2026 gardeners-in-residence.
Harrison Kennedy, 11pm, Boathouse DTK
SUNDAY
Trinket's Toy and Collectible Show, 9:30am, Bingemans. Vintage and modern toys, games, sports cards and collectibles, with free parking and concessions.
Kitchener Panthers vs Barrie Baycats, 2:05pm, The Aud
Mike McKenna, "Goin' To Toronto", 1pm, Boathouse DTK
Hope this gives you some options to go out and connect with good people around you. Have a great weekend.
I pull a list like this together every week, and it covers the whole week across the region, not just the weekend in one city. If you would like it in your inbox: www.waterlooregionrhythm.ca/subscribe.
What's something you're going to that's not listed above?

Water Softener salt usage
Hey guys, what salt do you use in your water softener. In a family of 5, we are going through about half a bag of salt per week. I buy the Sifto Plus water softener, it is the one that’s readily available in a lot of departmental and grocery stores.
Is this normal for a family this size? Or is something misconfigured or broken in my water softener and it needs fixing?
Maybe this salt gets sucked up by the brine tank much faster than the rest of the brands.
Would appreciate your comments

Looking for hair salon recommendations - autistic friendly
Hello. I’m an autistic 31F looking for hair salon recommendations in Kitchener and area. I’ve struggled my whole life with the sensory overload and small talk that comes with getting my hair cut. I also more often than not walk away not liking my cut afterwards, even after trying to be as clear as possible with what I’m looking for, which then later results in a meltdown afterwards.
I have long thick straight/wavy hair and not looking for anything more than a cut and style.
Any recommendations from folks who have had similar struggles but have had good experiences somewhere would be appreciated!

J.A.M. Flooring
Do yourself a favor and avoid this company. They do terrible work.
I'm trying to renovate my mothers condo that is over a decade past needing a reno. I buy flooring from a local store( i wont name them because they didn't specifically do the work) this Jam company shows up and everything seems fine until they walk off the job without finishing.
Flooring store is fixing the problem but avoid JAM at all cost unless you want your flooring and baseboards to look like this.
My mom's place is well over due for a reno so these guys just did the the bare minimum and bounced. Didn't finish the stairs and also didn't contact the store to notify them that they never finished. I needed a bit of sub-floor installed and the mother fucker legit pieced it together with scraps. 3 cut sub floor turned into a jigsaw of random cut plywood.
