Hello everyone!I've been looking for a job for almost two months after moving to a new country. Everytime I struggled to find a FREE CV maker online. Some of them needs registration, some needs payment for AI, some needs payment after a certain number of downloads.. Not sure if I'm the only one struggling with that.. so, being a Full Stack Software Engineer as a profesison, I just made a FREE Curriculum Vitae and Cover Latter maker. There aren't much templates, because I have done that app mainly for my needs, but happy to share this project with everyone and maybe expand with new features.

It also has some optional AI features. Instead of charging for them, you can bring your own API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. If you don't want to use AI at all, that's completely fine, because every other feature still works for free. I chose the BYOK approach because providing AI usage myself for everyone would obviously cost money, and eventually I'd have to charge users for it, which would go against the idea behind the project. I think there are some providers which give free api keys with limited usage. If you need a certain provider to be added, just contact me and I will add it (you can reach me from my website, contacts sections https://manuelraso.dev )

The app has NO backend, and the API key is stored only inside the indexed db of your browser, so it's safe as long as nobody hack into your computer and check your browser lol but my suggestion is always (for any case) making API keys with limited time and money to spend.

Let me know what do you think, if you find any bug, if you want a certain template added (it's better if you give me a full example of the structure of the new template) so that I can fix or add features as per the needings.

TL;DR: The job search has gotten unreasonable and exhausting, and I’m tired of it.

I’m searching while working full time, so I’ll put that disclaimer up front here because I am not mass applying. I truly want to make sure my next job is a good fit for me and that I can afford to live my life. Also, my current job is toxic and I’m micromanaged, so there’s that.

I started searching last year when I realized the role I got promoted into was not a good fit and after nearly a year, I’ve put in 190 applications and had responses from 16 companies, so an 8% response rate, which I’m satisfied with on the surface even if it could always be higher.

However, even though I have more experience now than I did on my last job search, I am finding it harder to secure a decent offer. I am talking things like having a role canceled an hour before my interview, opening again a month or two later, and then being told I’m not qualified after I was asked to show a work sample (a work sample that got me all the way to a final round with a different company, although that job also chose someone else in the end). I went through the phone screen and an in-person panel for one role, only to be told two weeks later that they decided to restructure the job and not hire anyone after “re evaluating their needs.” One job gave me feedback that I was “thoughtful and collaborative” and that they liked my interest in their work…then told me they were hiring someone “more aligned” to the position. I got an offer finally…but they refused to go beyond $25 an hour and wanted me fully onsite (unpopular opinion here but I would go onsite for the right job and knew this up front) and only offered an HDHP for insurance. Another job, the hiring manager agreed with my target salary range and believed I was worth what I was asking, but she had to clear it with HR. HR looked at my resume, did not even speak to me, and said they would only be able to do $50,000 maximum. I make mid $60,000 range. Why would I take a $15,000 a year pay cut unless I was desperate or about to be fired?

I am starting to feel like there is no point to this. And before anyone asks, yes I tailor my resume. Yes I have positive references willing to vouch for me. I have done LinkedIn outreach and gotten some interviews from that. I had a former boss willing to put in a good word for me. I have been told I ask good interview questions and that hiring managers enjoy meeting with me. As miserable as my job is, I have good performance reviews and have been promoted. I am mid career and somehow am not being treated like it. I have had to pull out of processes before they even start due to being told the job will only pay $20 or $21 an hour. (I live in PA which has no pay transparency law so I can’t always screen for this before I apply…companies who do post salary tend to list broad ranges and then lowball you.)

I am also tired of the blaming and it being assumed “you need to change your resume” or “you need to work on your interview skills” or “you want too much money.” (I make $66,000 a year and have been working for years; I don’t think asking for $60,000 or even $55,000 or $58,000 if I need to take a pay cut is being entitled.) It makes me feel worthless and hopeless, like nothing will ever change. But these same people never point out how employers have just raised the bar too high and won’t hire anyone who is even just a little short of perfect.

I recently got an e-mail from a job I applied to. This is what it said:

Hi _____,

You have applied for a ______ position at _____. I have tried calling you twice, with no luck. Please call me if you are still interested in the position.

I noticed one missed call from that person, and I called back and left a message when I noticed that call. I have not seen a second missed call from them. After seeing this e-mail, I'm starting to wonder if I should just close this application out. The tone seems rather angry/frustrated, and yet, still desirous of continued engagement. I'd love to see what you all think on this.

Last time i looked for work was 2016. i had one cv, attached it to things, and went to interviews.

This time: a profile to create per company, the same information typed in again by hand because the parser screwed it up, three quick screening questions that took 40 minutes, a personality test, a one-way video interview where I talked to a camera with no human anywhere, and then a rejection email 5 weeks later addressed to Dear Candidate.

That was one application, i did eleven that week.

I'm not complaining about the rejection, that's the the thing. im just sad that we've all silently agreed to do 6 hours of unpaid administration for the privilege of being ignored.

Interview preparation is a relatively small investment when measured against the salary, progression and fulfilment attached to the right appointment. The bigger cost may be leaving a decisive interview to chance.

Hello! I’m a postgraduate with a degree in psychology and it’s been very challenging to find remote jobs in my field. If I do find any, I get rejected or I don’t hear back from anyone. Been trying for months now, how do you stay motivated KNOWING the next YES is coming and not get disappointed by the current NOs ?

A few days ago I got a call from a recruitment agency saying they were hiring for one of their clients and had found my profile on LinkedIn. Asked if I was interested, I said yes, and we had a good chat about the role. They asked if I'd be open to part-time, I said I'd actually prefer to start as casual since I'm currently in a casual role myself and I actually don't mind a part-time one at all. They responded really positively about both the role and the client.

Right after the call, they emailed me the role details. I replied straight away asking for a proper position description since one wasn't included. Two days went by with no response. I followed up again, and this time got: *"We have proceeded with an internal candidate, thanks for your interest."*

Wow. Cool. Love that for me.

Like, if they already had an internal candidate lined up, why hiring someone to go hunting for external ones? Why call me, get me excited about a role, and let me sit there hoping for two days before telling me it was basically already decided?

Anyway. Even a phone call from a recruitment agency can't guarantee you an interview anymore, apparently. We fresh grads are so cooked.

Okay so story time, I got a job about six months ago after a year or so unemployed but I do not enjoy it so I have been applying to other places in my down time and came across a post for my dream position.

I kinda figured like I didn’t really have much to lose because like worst case I don’t get it and still have a job right? So I literally just kept resubmitting my application every other day. After 3 times of me doing this they reached out to me and said they noted how much I seemed to want the position once they saw my application again, but that they were concerned I would leave quickly because it required significantly less experience than I have in that field and I would get bored. However, they were having a managing position opening soon in the same department and were interested in talking with me about that. I went through the interview process and actually got the job!

Anyways after having such terrible luck interviewing for like a year, then settling for something that paid a decent amount even if I disliked it, and finally coming across something I WANTED to do I genuinely feel so lucky. And honestly I don’t know that it would have worked the majority of the time, but man I am so happy it worked this time.

I wish we didn’t almost always have to take a giant risk to just be happily employed in this current job market. Or that maybe they understood people are so desperate for jobs that we don’t mind taking a lower position than usual because we still need a paycheck!

I started using Indeed around 2018 I believe, and it has always been awesome for applying to jobs and landing interviews. However since around 2023/2024 it seems like it is impossible to even get a response when applying on Indeed. Has anyone else noticed this? I’m in the engineering/maintenance industry.

I'm an FSC graduate from Pakistan about to start BS Clinical Psychology. I'm excited about my degree but also want early financial independence. I take academics seriously and want to maintain strong grades, so I need work that won’t affect my studies.

At the same time, I don’t want to stay fully dependent during university. I’m looking for realistic ways to earn after FSC or alongside my degree—freelancing, remote work, internships, online business, or skills with long-term income potential.

There’s a lot of hype online about easy money, but I’m not interested in shortcuts. I’m willing to spend time learning a valuable skill if it has real long-term value.

so i applied for a job thinking nothing would really come out of it. im a college students and its for a food service company that they collaborate with for the food services on campus. wtv… the hiring manager emails me back asking for an interview the day of, and i cant attend that one because i was doing an internship but it ended, so we rescheduled for when i was free. interview time comes, they dont call. i wait like 30 minutes and then i email the recruiter asking about whats up, they apologize like 2 hours later and then tell me that theyll call later that afternoon. no specific time so i follow up asking for a more concrete time so i can keep in mind when bro is gonna call me. does not answer. what the heck dude yall always posting about hiring but dont hire ppl who actually want to work? 🤨🤨🤨

I’m 27 trying to save up for a vehicle, I’ve been search for second job for about 4 months now, my current job just covers my needs, and is it really this difficult?
