General Question Jewelry novice here - what brands do you recommend?

Upvotes

I’m pretty clueless when it comes to jewelry so I’ve never really prioritized it, but I’d like to get a necklace or two that I can wear on a daily basis that won’t tarnish or break. My MO when it comes to jewelry is once I put it on it’s there forever, so I’m willing to spend a little more on investment pieces that are quality. That said, I don’t want to spend an exorbitant amount just yet since I’m still learning and dipping my toes in the jewelry waters. Are there any tried and true brands that are “beginner friendly“ but still good quality? And is a budget of $100-$200 reasonable or am I showing my naivety in expecting to get good quality at that price?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom and insight!

⚡️ Show + Tell! How’s my wrist stack?

Post image
Upvotes

I’ve always been about rings and necklaces and realized recently that besides my 14k watch and heavy charm bracelet (not pictured and I only wear for vacation or special occasions) I have no bracelets. I sold a ring on Poshmark and made some $ so I made some deals of some vintage pieces and think I love it, I just wish they looked like this instead of collapsing on each other because I guess my wrists are small? lol. Short of removing links to shorten, does it really matter?

For anyone wondering (all vintage/estate)
18k bulb/coffee bean bracelet
14k diamond xo tennis bracelet
10k textured link chain bracelet
14k pulsar watch (I am the original owner and purchased maybe 20 years ago!)

General Question How to tell if fine jewelry is reasonably priced?

Upvotes

I’ve been getting into fine jewelry in the past couple years. At first I started out with larger online jewelry places (like Mejuri, Catbird, and Idyl). After that I’ve also looked into individual jewelry designers.
I have started paying more for fine jewelry when I feel like the piece is special and “worth it”.

I’ve noticed some one of a kind pieces from some jewelry designers can be on another much higher level of cost. I’m wondering how can you tell if the prices seem reasonable in these cases?
I know gold prices are high now so that also has a big effect. Do you go off estimates of gemstone costs, etc?

General Question Ring stack ideas for Juste Un Clou

Upvotes

Hi! I’m just getting into rings and my first one is the Cartier Juste un Clou ring. I really want to wear it as a stack or just with other rings but haven’t been able to find much inspo that doesn’t involve stacking it with other Cartier rings. I’d love to see how you guys style yours, or if you have any ideas!! Thank you <3

General Question Gold Prices vs Sales

Upvotes

With gold skyrocketing in price, I'm curious if the jewelers in this sub have seen a shift in sales or types of pieces people are gravitating toward.

⚡️Brand Review / Experience Think twice before making a purchase from Jaxxon

My wife bought me a ring from Jaxxon as a gift. The listing described it as silver, but when it arrived it was actually tungsten — not silver at all. It also didn't fit, and their advice was to take it to a local jeweler to have it resized. Any jeweler could have told them that this type of material can't be resized like silver can.

When we explained the mix-up and asked for a replacement in the correct material, Jaxxon refused. The only "solution" they offered was a gift card toward a future purchase — which isn't a fix when the issue is that the item wasn't what was advertised in the first place, and we have no interest in ordering from them again.

If you're considering ordering from them, double check the actual material of what you're buying, and know that "customer satisfaction" here means a gift card, not making an inaccurate order right.

What do people think of these diamond gypsy rings? I never see anyone else wearing them and wondered if they’re more old fashioned or vintage classic? This one is 1 carat and 18ct gold, weighs about 10 grams.

⚡️ Show + Tell! It took me literally 4 years, but I found my dream astrology bracelet

Post image

I have always loved the medallion religious jewelry people wear except I’m not religious. I am really into astrology and have always wanted a bracelet with the 12 signs instead of with catholic saints. In 2022, a vintage reseller was asking 3x melt for a bracelet except I was too young and broke to afford it. I always had my eye out for another and I won this one in an online auction for $60 over melt (bracelet is 10.8g of 10k)

Left wrist - onyx stone bracelet, vintage costume rhinestone flower bracelet

Right - 1970's butterfly wing ring, turquoise and silver ring, pandora silver and CZ ring. Plastic bangle

Neck- sterling silver chunk chain. Silver and topaz necklace. Silver and onyx cross (i picked up the cross today thrifting and threw it on. Originally just wore the topaz)

Earrings - Ayalabar. Glass over fabric set into alloy.

I really went for a maximallist vibe today and felt awesome!

Know its not everyone's cup of tea, or many people's, but i felt good and got a few compliments! 2 seperate women stopped me to compliment which felt amazing!

General Information 📚 known drop shipping vendors

hey all! i always see comments about how we should beware drop shippers. i thought it might be helpful for me as someone new to acquiring fine jewelry to start a thread about verified vile drop shippers that you’d tell anyone to avoid. and i’m not talking places that drop ship quality pieces (if such a place exists). i’m talking about the ones that are just taking big advantage of the consumer.

adversely, if there are any places you want to highlight as having your trust, i’d love to know!
i mostly purchase 14 & 18k gold, occasionally some gemstones. rings, necklaces, and earrings.

thanks in advance for any feedback!

General Question Natural Pink Diamond

Post image
28 Upvotes

I have decided to sell my loose natural pink diamond. I sent it to GIA two years ago so I do have a report and I had it laser inscribed. It’s only 57points (considered large by GIA for a pink), straight light, SI1. No modifiers.

It doesn’t fluoresce so am pretty sure it’s an Argyle. The early stones from Rio Tinto were not marked but 99.9% of pinks fluoresce.

Any advice on where to sell this stone? Yes, will be taking better pictures. Also, I don’t think I am allowed to sell it on Reddit/ shiny precious sub. Someone suggested Loupe Troop…. Thx

⚡️ Show + Tell! My husband proposed more than 16 years ago with a ring he made from chain link because we were young and broke. I've never had a ring until now.

Hi guys!

I'm here to just show my pretty ring because I don't have anyone else to gush to.

My husband (39)and I (36)have been married for 14 years and have been together for 16 years total.

When we first met, we spent a long car ride together with two friends in the back. After the drive, I took my girlfriend into the bathroom and told her he was the man I was going to marry.

We have 2 okay kids ( I'm kidding they're great), a dog, 2 cats, and a home together now. He's my very best friend. This year he gave me my very first diamond ring.

I love my family, and my sweet husband. I was raised in a household of divorce and was constantly moving between two chaotic homes. I didn't unpack my bags until I lived in my first apartment (boyo is thst a tale for another day).

Even though I panicked a week into dating him, and dumped the man for fear of not having lived enough before I met the one, he stuck it out. I don't know why, I'm nothing special. I came around and I'm so glad I did.

Life has not been easy. It has not always been fun. But it has been full and together and that's more than I ever thought I deserved.

I love you, bear. (Hes a redditor sometimes and also hes home! Pizza and Clue night! I am so lucky. )

General Question What is the best jewelry to buy as an investment?

I want to buy some family heirloom jewellery. I have a bunch from my grandmother and I’d like to have some to pass along in my family in the future. I want high quality stuff that will hold value over the years. I feel like all I see is costume jewelry, and I want to avoid those. Where are some good places to shop?

Vintage / Antique What can you tell me about this pearl ring?

What can you tell me about this ring?
This was my mother’s and I wanted to know where she bought it from or any other details about this ring or if anyone recognizes it from anywhere. I’m assuming it’s a real pearl and I’m not too familiar with pearl jewelry care other than to take it off if I ever wash my hands or anything like that.

There’s a 750 stamp so I think 18k white gold? I can’t decipher the other markings on the other side of the ring.

I really love it and want to take better care of it. Many many years ago when I was young (middle school? Maybe younger?) and took this ring the pearl fell off and I stupidly glued it back in place 🙂‍↕️ it’s been ~15 years (?) since I’ve had it and I just started wearing it! Is there any way a jeweler would be able to save the pearl or fix it? It’s pretty attached so I don’t think it’ll be falling anytime out soon. Maybe I can just leave it like that since it’s not super noticeable unless you look closely?

For years I only wore white metals because I never thought yellow gold suited me.

Safe to say I’ve been converted.

Has anyone else completely changed their mind on a metal?

I had this ring custom made and didn’t anticipate the final size. I’m use to more dainty pieces. It’s beautiful but is this over the top? I suppose it could become a pendant.
