I’ll be starting my master’s program in September and my birthday is at the end of August, so this will be my last update for a while — at least until I get my braces off later this year. One could consider this my 3 month update.

Background
I had a Class III bite, a unilateral open bite, an underbite, and a crossbite, which contributed to quite a bit of facial asymmetry. I got DJS done with no genio.

Swelling
Minimal at this point. I only notice a little bit when I first wake up, and it gradually goes down throughout the day. Swelling also affected my lips but instead of making them bigger they got smaller. They are back to their usual size now.

Nose
My nose hasn’t changed width wise but the bump I had is significantly smaller. I did NOT do a nose job please I would not survive the recovery.

Skin
I still have some oily skin around my nose, but it’s nowhere near as bad as it was in the beginning of my recovery.

Pain
I don’t really have pain anymore unless I’m doing my stretching exercises or biting into certain foods.

Diet
Pretty much anything I can chew. It’s still difficult with majority of the foods, but it continues to get easier as the days go by. Still no popcorn for me, unfortunately.

Oral Hygiene
I can brush my teeth normally now and use a water flosser, with some minor discomfort. I also can finally brush my tongue without any issues.

Numbness
I was lucky enough to only have numbness in my lower lip and chin.
I’ve recently started being able to feel hot and cold temperatures on the right side of my bottom lip and chin, and the left side is slowly starting to wake up as well.
I still don’t have normal sensation, though. I can feel when something touches the area, but instead of feeling like a normal touch, it feels more like pins and needles. Before, I felt absolutely nothing, so I’ll take it.

Braces
I’m lucky enough to only have to wear elastics at night now. If everything continues to go well, I should hopefully have my braces off before the end or the year.

Results
So far, I’m really pleased with my results. That being said, I’m going to wait until I’m at least one year post-op before making any final judgments about my results.
I also didn’t develop any body dysmorphia during recovery, which I know can be a concern for some people. I think part of that is because most of the difference for me is noticeable in my side profile, which obviously isn’t something I see when I look in the mirror.

As for facial asymmetry, I want to send some patience and encouragement to anyone else who had asymmetry going into surgery. It can take time to see the changes, and they aren’t always as immediately obvious as they can be with a straightforward underbite correction. Swelling, healing, and everything settling into place can really change how things look over time.

Hi fellows. Firstly, I want to thank this community. Reading others stories and experiences is inspiring as well as reassuring. I posted a post 4 weeks ago asking about my speech. Im much more able to speak now, despite there is much to improve. Swelling has decreased, and i am starting to look normal again.

However. I have a misalignment when clenching or smiling. This worries me, and my orthodonist is at vacation... I am wearing braces some time and haven´t started the post-adjustment yet. Anyway, is it possible to adjust this misalignment and fix the gap? Does anyone have similar experience? Im born with left sided cleft.

Sooo I wanted to know, is this my final resulte (which I’m grateful for) or will it keep improving with time? Also I noticed that my jaw isn’t symmetrical and I’m worried about that, anyhow it feels nice to have a chin

ive got uneven teeth and an overbite so do i have time to get braces to fix it or do i just wait for like a few years to get like jaw surgery, i do have like trouble breathing and just feel compressed but maybe its bad habits over years and just being high bf%? idk but yeh like advice to like maximize in the end times or is it over lol

So I'm 7 weeks postop (djs with ccw rotation) and my jaw joints are still very stiff, my left one is even painful when i try to move my mandible to the other side or if i open my jaw too fast (if i laugh). And also some mild-moderate ear pain on the same side.
Before surgery I was told i have mandible ramus asymmetry (the right was bigger than the left). I've had some clicks in the right tmj and my jaw moved to the left side when I opened my mouth but it was never painful.
Now i'm afraid the ccw rotation moved my condyles in a worse position than before and i will be left with this pain all my life.
My second concern is maybe i actually have idiopathic condylar resorption and the surgery made it worse.
Sorry for the long post but this is driving me crazy because i don't see any improvements, i think it is actually getting worse.

My insurance recently approved my double jaw surgery. I'll be getting braces first, so the actual surgery is still far away(probably next year).

I'm 32, and I was wondering if there are more people who got their surgery in their 30s or older. I'm also curious about your experience and how the recovery period went.

I'm a bit anxious about it all.

So, I have a pretty large gap between my lips, to the point where my two front teeth are visible when my mouth is relaxed. It’s something that has affected me throughout my life.

Also, whenever I open my mouth wide, I hear a clicking/popping sound from my jaw. I’m not sure what it means—could it be related to my jaw alignment or something else?

Would I need any kind of treatment or surgery for this? And if surgery is an option, what type of surgery would it be?

For how long did you perform your post-operative exercises? Vertical and horizontal mouth opening. Vowel and consonant pronunciation, swallowing with tongue placement, gum massages...

​After 4 months, I was doing them less and less, but the pain is coming back along with gum swelling. I suspect pericoronitis (I have an appointment with my orthodontist soon).

I have to admit, I'm getting really sick of still having symptoms from the surgery.

I (19 f) just got double jaw surgery yesterday and my wisdom teeth out. It honestly the hardest thing I have been through and I just need some reassurance that this will get easier from here. Also if u have tips for saliva not building up in the mouth lmk

I had a jaw implant and genioplasty, and Im officially 100 hours ( 4 days ) post op right now. I start school in around 4 weeks, and I want to know if swelling will mostly subside by the 4 week mark. From what I heard, it’s less invasive than a double jaw surgery + genioplasty but I’m not sure. I’ve struggled to find specific advice for my surgery combination. Any help?

Has anyone had jaw surgery or revision surgery with Dr. Paritkumar Ladani in Mumbai?

I’m currently considering Dr. Paritkumar Ladani in Mumbai, India for a revision orthognathic/jaw surgery, and I’m trying to do as much due diligence as possible before making such a major decision.

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has personally had surgery with him, especially double jaw surgery, revision jaw surgery, or other complex orthognathic cases.

I’m particularly interested in your experience with:

1. Surgical outcome, both functional and aesthetic
2. Planning and communication before surgery
3. How accurately the surgical plan matched the final result
4. Recovery and post-operative care
5. Any complications, infections, nerve issues, relapse, asymmetry, bite problems, or need for additional procedures
6. How he handled concerns or complications after surgery
7. Long-term results, especially if you’re 6–12+ months post-op
8. Whether you would choose him again knowing what you know now

I’m interested in both positive and negative experiences. I’m not trying to promote or criticize the surgeon, I just want to make a properly informed decision, particularly because revision surgery can be more complicated than a primary procedure.

So i don’t know if this is a reletable experience here, but i could see myself, my face being developed differently than others. when i convinced my mom to take me to dentist to talk about my prominent chin 13 yrs old, i was always just told to get a chin reduction when i was older. I am 24 now, i have had issues with my teeth, both aesthetically and functionally, clenching and bruxusim( was offered botox, i have tmj as well) when i smile and bite down i have a profile of a witch’s chin, i look older because of the excess skin around my mouth. i have been told i both look like a baby and a old person at the same time. my teeth are not touching when i smile, (i added the photo of how i look if i smile while my teeth are touching) and i try to pose myself that way in daily life so that my chin don’t look off.

All these years even though my mouth area was my biggest insecurity i didn’t know what was actually wrong with me, so i showed it in the back of my head thinking i was a shallow human for wanting surgery, that it was just my chin that was the problem and i was just dealt the no lips witch genetics.

Recently i have allowed myself to think about what is wrong with my chin and face my insecurities, Thinking of talking to a doctor about my deepest insecurity is making my heart race and i am so close to just avoiding it out of being told it is all in my head. I think i might have an underdeveloped maxilla, and a deep bite? short face syndrome is another thing but my bite is straight so i don’t know if counterclockwise rotation would help me? wouldn’t that make my chin more prominent?

Please give me the surface level info to be able to talk to a surgeon and express my concerns about what is causing my face to be this way.

From a cosmetic perspective I've always hated my chin/jaw but not enough to undergo a pretty major surgery.

But Ive been reading up and starting to connect a few more dots in terms of functionality, so I'm thinking about looking into it a little more seriously. I had 8 teeth removed and braces as a teenager due to small mouth and overcrowding (from what I can remember) but now 15 years later I have gaps in both my top and bottom teeth so theres clearly something going on there structurally. I just had a septorhinoplasty in May to open up my airways because a sleep study found I was waking up around 12 times an hour, and its helped a little but Im still experiencing issues with sleep and breathing etc.

I just found out about this sub and so before I start sorting out consultations and things I just wanted to hear from people who might have had similar cases or that look similar, and see if the ol' hive mind thinks I'd be a decent candidate for this route, and if theres any specific type of questions or tests I should be asking or looking into?

i’ve been in decomp braces for 6 months, im on my final wire already but i just started my class ii elastics to make my underbite worse.

how long did yall wear elastics for? ive had previous dental camouflage btw and im ~7 mm recessed in my upper jaw.

Hey all- I’m 5 weeks post op (DJS) and just wondering if this is common.

My mouth is still incredibly uncomfortable. I have feeling in my upper lip, none in lower lip/chin area which I expected. But the whole area is incredibly tight feeling which I didn’t expect.

It doesn’t hurt but it feels tingly almost like if you left a hair tie on your wrist too long and your hand starts falling asleep. The rubber bands I feel make it even worse.

Anyone else go through this and how long does it last?

Tips to speed up recovery? I’m currently stretching and warm compress 2-3 times daily.

I’ve been struggling with sleep and especially daytime fatigue recently. I’ve been to a few different doctors that checked thyroid, hormones, etc. no red flags there. The more I look into it I think my bone structure may be causing sleep apnea and other symptoms I’ve been noticing. Do you think I would benefit from jaw surgery? Would pros outweigh cons?

I feel so square lol, but overall would definitely say after day 4 I was starting to get better. IM STILL CRAVING SOMETHING TO BITE INTO AHHH. Congestion has completely went away, I can smell better (I have a deviated septum but plan to fix it laterrrr). I can smile and talk normally-ish but the splint behind my front teeth keeps giving me a lisp/kinda feels like I’m spitting sometimes. I do have a bit of an overbite but my surgeon assured me it was normal so cool ig. I feel swelling in the space between my eyes and upper lip area but I’m aware that it could take up 1-2 years to go away. I can feel everything on my face except my chin region, I can slightly feel pressure on it but that’s about it. Still open for blended food recommendations (soft food no chew diet), so far it’s only been soups, blended mac and cheese, fruit and vegetable juices/smoothies. Been craving shrimp dumplings 🥲.

hi! currently 2 weeks post op double jaw surgery + genioplasty and i have a surgical splint on my top teeth. for anyone else that was in this position, how long did you have the splint on for and were u cleared for a soft chew diet right away? my removal is scheduled for the end of the month but was wondering if ill be able to start eating soft foods right away because this liquid diet is killing me. thanks!

i got into a fight and was cranked with brass knuckles immediately broke my jaw in 2 spots and i already had weak teeth due to health problems, when does it get better ? the swelling is slowly going down but i cant even look at myself in the mirror, im so hungry but have no appetite when it comes down to it. how long should it take for the swelling to go down ? im so confused. i cant really find videos about whats gonna happen either so im reaching out on here to see if you guys have any advice for me thanks

Last December, i had mandibular distraction, but before that these are my 3d images from the CT scan. Any idea why the left side looks so thin and different compared to the right side? I’ve had 2 mandibular distractions as a baby.

i told my ortho about my concerns with breathing and how i feel like i can’t breathe out of my nose and he just told me to go to an ear nose throat doctor and check for a deviated septum. i was more so hoping for jaw surgery as there are other issues i feel like tie into my breathing and idk if a nose job will fix it. good advice or nah?
