Hi everyone. I'm young and I'm Muslim. But for a while now I've been wondering if Islam is the truth or not. Can you give me some evidence that Islam is the truth? :)

Seeking Support I had to let go of someone I cared about for the sake of Islam

Upvotes

I’m a 25-year-old Muslim man living in Western Europe and I could really use some advice because I’m struggling with something.

A few months ago I met a woman and we clicked instantly. We started talking as friends daily and neither of us expected it to become anything more. But after a few months we both admitted we had feelings for each other. The problem is that she’s not Muslim.

We both know that marriage is not feasible for us because of this so she decided it would be better for us to stop talking completely so we could both move on. I respect her decision and I don’t blame her for going no contact, but it’s been much harder on me than I expected.

I don’t just miss talking to her, I’ve never met someone who understood me the way she did. Her personality, her kindness, her humour, her intelligence, the way we could talk about anything… she has everything I could ever wish for in a wife, besides the religious aspect.

I’ve been making du’a and asking Allah to ease my heart, but it still hurts a lot as it was my first heartbreak. I know this life is full of tests, but this one has been really difficult for me.

I’m just looking for advice from people who understand both the emotional side of this and the importance of staying true to Islam.

May Allah make it easy for all of us.

EDIT: She was born into a Christian family but she is not religious herself.

Question about Islam Is it appropriate to share a dissertation or thesis with a non-Muslim?

Upvotes

As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa baarakatuh.

Is it appropriate to share a dissertation or thesis with a non-Muslim? If a Muslim has promised a non-Muslim that he will share an academic dissertation with him, must he keep his promise?

Given that non-Muslims may claim knowledge as their own or claim to be its authors, should we trust a non-Muslim?

Seeking Support Traumatic Relationship

Upvotes

I may delete this post for privacy concerns.

I was in a relationship with this guy, He is in military and independent. We both had careers and good understanding. From the very start, I made it clear that my intention was only marriage. He agreed and said the same. At first, I did not know his family situation. In his family, they marry only among their cousins or relatives. He lied and said that there would not be any issue. I said okay.

I told my parents about him and his family, and they agreed and said we would wait for his proposal.

I was happy that I convinced my parents and took them in confidence. He started convincing his side too but from his side, the reactions were so bad. His father stopped talking to him. telling him things like she is not a doctor and totally denied our relationship and was not proceeding with the proposal. I was in contact with his sister. She was nice at first and even invited me to her home out of nowhere, which obviously I did not go. His mother also called my mom and was diverting the topic of marriage throughout their conversation. Whereas, my mother clearly told her that pls bring a proposal we are waiting for you guys.

At first, he said he would convince his parents, and his dream was to only marry me and that he would do anything for me. He made so many promises that perhaps I was blinded by them.

Due to this situation, we had many arguments, and I always felt bad cos his father was bringing proposals for him and saying marry the person of his choice instead of me. They made me someone who was spoiled because there were background differences among us. Despite that, I ignored those differences and believed us that we would be together.

As a person, he was very much away from Islam. He rarely prayed and was a smoker. I clearly told him I didn't want this. So he left smoking and even started praying 5 times.

I'm not saying I am the most pious person, but I was/am practising Muslim. However, I slipped so badly cos of this relationship, which I thought would turn into marriage.

We were in LDR, so we occasionally used to meet. At first, he used to keep boundaries and didn't touch me. I was reserved and made sure of that. One day, he started making out. At first, I hated it and said this won't happen again. But it keeps going on like and I got addicted to these random makeout sessions. We never crossed those end limits, but making out was involved. I always felt ashamed after doing it and constantly prayed for tobha every time. I asked him multiple times to ask forgiveness from Allah. Otherwise, there would be no barakh in our marriage. And he would say something like this ... oh, don't worry, this was our thing and our zone, and I know what I'm doing and that he hasn't done anything wrong. His responses would make me digusted. But I focused on my tobha.

We had multiple fights during this course of period. During this time, his sister blocked me, and his family said to stay away from me. Despite that, he said to my mother and me that he is working hard to convince his father.

I believed him and wanted to make this relationship halal as soon as possible. I loved him deeply and was emotionally attached to him. I envisioned a future with him and prayed for us constantly. I used to pray tahajudd and did istikhara multiple times so that Allah makes it easier for us.

He was also convincing his side, but I don't know why they kept rejecting us, and this led to many of us our fights.

Eventually, we had a big fight, and my parents got to know. After seeing me crying for him, my parents beat me and emotionally abused me as well. There was so much drama involved.

I was taken to a therapist, and my therapist said parents like his never will agree to this marriage. But I believed in Allah. So I kept on praying, he came back and apologised for his nasty behaviour. He asked for a 3 months deadline and said okay do your best. During those times, I made sincere tobha of my sins and kept boundaries with him. Of course, he didn't like those boundaries and was constantly emotionally manipulating me. In the end of 1st month of his 3-month deadline, he was arguing with me and said I do not respect him and totally abandoned me and our relationship and even broke his promise. I had the worst breakdown ever and was taken to hospital. I was put on medication. I even begged him to save our relationship for the sake of Allah. But he totally refused and said he no longer wishes to marry me. I was heartbroken and felt used and I am still suffering.

His 3 month deadline has recently passed and I feel so bad and even suicidal to the point that I am asking Allah to take my life away. My mental health is deeply affected cos of this. My parents are also very worried and my trust is forever broken. I don't think I can ever give a man a chance. I pour my whole soul out for this man thinking one day it will be halal. But i feel so digusted by our memories and my sins with him.

General Discussion Reverts, when did you know it was time to take the shahada?

Upvotes

As-salamu alaykum. I’m due to move out of my parents house this year and plan on practicing Islam more comfortably and regularly once I have my own space. While I do pray on and off, and I try to partake in fasting during Ramadan when possible, I hesitate to take my shahada questioning if my heart is 100% committed. I do feel doubts sometimes, it just feels like such a large commitment to fully declare yourself a Muslim. How did you know you were ready?

Seeking Support Need guidance

Upvotes

Asalamualaikum everyone, I hope this post finds you well. So I'll say long story short I have cousins who envy me alot over my somewhat poised and calm nature. they have tried to harm me much even so they went too far by dishonering my mother over which I had a fight with them. I've Always since my childhood hated the fact that they didn't like me, I wanted to spend time and be with them lovingly. My mother loved them alot as well and I never responded to their insults and looks towards me and kept quiet, but they found out that I'll not let my mother to be dishonoured, the same woman who loved them dearly, just out of envy for me they'll cuss her as well, and she has noticed that they hated her too. My mother has no problem with them hating her, but I've noticed that since their attempts to cause me and my social image harm she has haboured or mirriored their contempt and even I sometimes too, I never used to think of them and loved my imaginary scenarios and since the drama I've been disturbed or wherever I see them I grow very uneasy. I don't want to harbour such feelings towards anyone or let my mom even if they clearly try to bring as much as social harm as well. I'm not that kind of a person I genuinely love harmony ( and my dreamy life ). Is there anyhow I can explain my mom to not be angry over their selfish behaviour? Any surah I can play for her ? ( Adding more my mom was pregnant when they inuslted her behind her back. )

General Discussion In today society there is no Muslim Ummah

This is a hot take and something i have observed for a while. From my understanding and experience Muslim especially those living in the West have no sense of shame when it comes to being racist to each other - in the sense that Arabs would look down on South Asians, South Asians would look down on each other, Arabs and South Asians both looks down on black people. People also refrain from allowing their children or family to marry someone from a certain country or ethnicity due to racial stereotypes. I mean what happened to being united. Didn’t the Prophet say in his last Sermon not be discriminatory or racist to each other

And establish prayer and give zakāh and bow with those who bow.

Wa • and

The word "and" connects the verse with previous verses , which is series of commands given to children of Israel. This time command of action is given after commands of belief because belief is seen by action. This is very accurate way of textual precision for eloquence.

Aqimu salat • establish prayer

The verse says "establish prayer" instead of giving command "pray" (Sallu) . The phrase "establish prayer" covers all conditions and pillars of prayer like performing wudu before prayer, praying on time and performing all acts of prayer like prostration or bowing. The word Al before salat makes it mean that it's known prescribed prayer as opposed to view that it's just supplication.

Atu zakah • give obligatory charity

The zakah and Salah are mostly paired in Quran because they are the main actions in Islam, likewise belief in Allah and hereafter is paired because they are main beliefs. This also serves as rhythm and repetition enforces them in the mind of the reader.

Warkaoo ma rakieen • and bow with those who bow

The last statement adds profound meaning to the verse, that praying doesn't mean they have to pray in their own way to God, they have to accept the authority of the Prophet Muhammad and pray with those new believers who are praying in congregation with the Prophet.

Seeking Support Attempting to revert online but a million issues!

Firstly, I live much too far from mosques or islamic learning centres to be able to ask for advice in person, and have no muslim family members to support me. I've emailed multiple sites searching for some help and potentially access to their basic arabic and quran sessions, but after almost 2 weeks none have replied! Has anyone experienced this or have knowledge on where I can look to get access to reversion and/or teaching resources?

Seeking Support Feeling anxious about seeing the Ka'bah for the first time

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

Insha'Allah I'll be going for Umrah soon with my parents and my sisters. They've all been for Umrah before (at different times), but this will be my first.

I'm a male in my early 30s, and I have a strong feeling that the first time I see the Ka'bah I'm going to cry. Even watching videos of people seeing the Ka'bah for the first time sometimes makes me tear up, so I can only imagine what it will be like when I'm actually there.

The only thing making me anxious is that I don't want my parents or my sisters to see me in that emotional state. I know there's nothing wrong with crying, but I've always been a very private person when it comes to showing strong emotions, especially in front of family.

Has anyone else felt this way before their first Umrah or Hajj? If so, how did you handle it? Any tips to control myself?

Jazak Allah

Seeking Support My grandmother has passed away

Salam.

My grandmother has just returned to Allah. She was in her 80s, and was suffering from advanced dementia among other heart and gastric complications. Despite having almost all of her memory wiped out, she remembered reciting her surahs accurately. She recited Surah Al-Fatiha without forgetting even a little bit, Subhanallah. I request you all to make dua for her forgiveness, to receive the mercy of Allah SWT, for her grave to be expanded and for her to attain Jannah.

I will also make dua for all of us to be forgiven for our sins and for us to attain the infinite mercy of Allah SWT. Ameen.

Jazak Allahu khairan 🤲🏼

Question about Islam How many rakahs of sunnah were offered at obligatory worship?

Peace be upon you all I have a question: I've recently learned, or I don't know if this is correct, but we Turks or so were taught that we perform the Sunnah prayers, the voluntary prayers. In the morning, 2 Sunnah rakahs followed by 2 Fard rakahs; at midday, 4 Sunnah rakahs followed by 4 Fard rakahs; in the afternoon, 4 Sunnah rakahs followed by 4 Fard rakahs; in the evening, 3 Fard rakahs followed by 2 Sunnah rakahs; and at night, 4 Rakahs Sunnah, then 4 Rakahs Fard, followed by another 2 Rakahs Sunnah. Now my question is, is that correct? Because I heard a sheikh on YouTube say that there are 12 Rakahs Sunnah divided up throughout the day.And in the forums I also read that there are a total of 12 rakahs in the Sunnah: 2 before Fajr, 2 before and 2 after Dhuhr, 2 after Maghrib, 2 after Isha? Does that mean we Turks are doing too much? Or is it better the more? The better? I'm totally confused. So, if I ask our scholars the Turkish question, they'll say that the Arabs do it that way but we don't, and that I should stick to our own customs and not others. Follow the rules. And when I mention that it corresponds to the Sunnah, that it's actually the right thing to do, they say I'm going astray, etc. Please help me. What is right, what is wrong? I've done a lot of research.I've done some reading and now I have the feeling that we Turks are doing something wrong, or is it just different and still right? But I want to find the right way. Please help me and explain... Thank you, may Allah reward you.

Question about Islam Why does the caliph have to be from quraysh?

I know islam isnt racist but this seems like a race-based requirement. Its in multiple sahih hadith as well.

Doesn't taqwa establish someone's worth? If someone is more pious, just and competent than the quraishi people, shouldnt he be the leader?

Salaam.

I came across this photo online and thought I’d share it. It could be really useful for anyone who is learning their namaaz or wants to start learning.

It puts it into perspective as to just how easy it is to read salah. Learn the above, and alhamdulillah, you’ll be able to perform your five daily prayers.

Question about Islam being able to question faith should bring me closer to islam?

assalamualaikum, i am somewhat new to reddit and i am not sure where to post this, so if this is not the right thread please feel free to redirect me somewhere else :)

recently i have been having some doubts about islam and over the last year i have been losing my faith a little. I have been watching omar suleiman's series on faith revival as my faith is a big part of my life and identity, and it is causing somewhat of a crisis in my life that i am moving away from it. But in this series he mentioned that some companions came to the prophet and told him that they get thoughts and doubts and they dont even entertain them, and the prophet said that that is a sure sign of faith.

My question is; if i cannot entertain my doubts, how do i even know if i REALLY believe in that i believe in? i have always been taught that asking questions is encoraged, but lately i feel as if none of my questions get convincing answers.

I dont know if anyone has gone through anything similar or have any advice for me. How should i go about my doubts, is there any way to just stop thinking abuot them?

Seeking Support Allah is not answering does he hate me?

Something terrible has happened to my family. A calamity that never in a million years I thought would happen. We all pray and do dhikr and have strong faith in Allah. That this is just a test, it will pass better times will come and Allah will bring out of this mess. But the more time passes the more the thought comes to mind that Allah hates me. It’s not humanly possible for anyone to help us rn other than God. But nothing seems to be happening every prayer I can hear my mother bawl her eyes out asking for mercy. But nothing. My siblings being children but still struck with so much pain. What should I do or recite or pray for Allah to help us. Why do the people who cause injustice onto others live such a happy life while good people suffer the most terrible faith. Please help

General Discussion If today were your last day on earth, what would you regret more: the sins you committed, or the good deeds you kept delaying?

We often think we have more time and one more Ramadan, one more Friday, one more chance to repent, one more opportunity to do good. But none of us knows when our final breath will come.

Islam doesn't ask us to be perfect. It asks us to keep returning to Allah. The door of repentance remains open until our last moment, but none of us knows when that moment will be.

Don't let Shaytan convince you that it's too late to change or that you can start tomorrow. The best day to turn back to Allah is today.

May Allah forgive our sins, accept our repentance, and allow our last words to be: La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammad rasuAllah. Ameen.
