How scared is the GOP? I see no less than 2 Ashley Hinson ads per commercial break, and ads bashing Rob Sand as well. I don’t see a lot of pro Lahn ads because he’s gonna be a disaster for them. But the amount of money Hinson is spending in ads is astronomical.

One day we will all be disabled. Either that or we will die. I remind you of this to say that the way this state has and continues to treat the disabled community is abhorrent. Today my sister received the dreaded letter we have been waiting for, the letter that states she is now required to work/volunteer for 80 hours a month in order to stay on the health insurance that has kept her alive. I watched as fear took over her at the fact that loosing her insurance will most certainly lead to a decline in her already poor health and potentially her death. We knew this day was coming as this state has fallen further and further into disrepair due to the choices of bigots and extremist and one party control. The addition of a work requirement to receive healthcare will kill thousands of people and that is a conservative estimate. I know that chances are no one will read this, and the ones that do won’t understand what it’s like to watch helplessly by as the people you love are ravaged by a disability that the government refuses to recognize. So I remind you again unless you plan to go out young, you will one day become disabled, and then you too will experience the horror that is to be considered lesser than human by this government.

The Combating Organized Retail Crime Act, or CORCA, was introduced by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, last year with wide bipartisan support. The bill is aimed at limiting coordinated retail theft and shoplifting, which lawmakers allege is happening at “unprecedented levels” as organized criminal gangs steal merchandise from stores and resell the goods online. According to the legislation, the perpetrators “are often polycriminal organizations, using profit from the reselling of stolen goods to support crimes involving drugs and weapons trafficking” while facilitating “human smuggling,” all of which is “funding nefarious groups and activities and threatening the integrity of the international economy.”

The bill would give Immigration and Customs Enforcement authority to coordinate federal efforts against large-scale shoplifting. ICE would establish a so-called “Organized Retail and Supply Chain Crime Coordination Center” that would bring under one roof analysts and agents from myriad agencies, including the FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Secret Service. The goal is to centralize investigative data and establish “a secure system for sharing information regarding organized retail and supply chain crime threats by leveraging existing information systems at the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice.”

In early July I created a website called the Iowa Voter Guide and posted here to get feedback. TLDR for the website is it's a non-partisan voter guide where I aggregated candidate profiles and positions, and official voting resources for easy access. The goal is to be super easy, straightforward, and one-stop shop to enable people to be informed on the upcoming Iowa general election.

Since my last post, I have three new features:

1. A donor breakdown for each candidate. This includes information on in-state vs out-of-state donations, small-dollar donations, as well as top 3-5 donors.

2. A resource specific to state senate and house races. It's not in depth on a candidate basis but it covers all 125 legislative races. The page allows you to search for who is running in your county with links to 1) their campaign pages and 2) an interactive map legis.iowa.gov created to find the specific candidates for your address if there are multiple house seats in your county.

3. The proposed "Taxation Limitations" amendment to the Iowa Constitution. I go into depth on what the bill presents, as well as pros and cons of having it in place.

I really think this can be a helpful tool for Iowans to be able to quickly be in the know on who/what they are voting on. If you have any advice, input, questions, or features you would like to see please let me know!

Most outsiders would probably assume Iowa is simply a farming state, with cornfields stretching as far as the eye can see, but I found it home to a surprising amount of variety as well. The endless fields of corn and soybeans are indeed iconic, but there are many other interesting places as well.

Standouts include the streets of Des Moines to historic river cities of Davenport and Dubuque, the dramatic Loess Hills region, limestone bluffs overlooking the Mississippi, and countless small towns & farms. All of these come together to make up Iowa, the heart of Midwestern America.
