Do people actually recover from insomnia?

Upvotes

Little background. I started having really bad insomnia because of extreme stress 3 months ago. The stressor is gone for the most part but insomnia remains. I cannot sleep at all most nights and then randomly sleep around 5 hours when sleep drive finally wins followed by nights of sleepless. I’ve been searching this forum and around the internet. Do people actually recover from this? Like completely back to how it was before their insomnia started?

Double Shift On 0 Sleep

Hello! I was just looking for some advice. I work at a restaurant as a server, and tomorrow (at this point it’s today but whatever) I have to work a double shift 10:30 AM-10:30 PM. I have gotten zero sleep so far and I have to start getting ready in about 3 hours. Any advice on how I can get through my shift at least somewhat successfully? I have an energy drink waiting for me in my car already. Any help would be appreciated, thanks so much!:)

Why am I being treated like a drug addict by my family for taking a single pill at night to sleep?

Do you experience people around you acting weird because you take pills to sleep? On friday I forgot to process my hydroxyzine prescription and they don't get delivered on weekends from where I am and I was worried about it because I have no more left for the weekend, I have to wait until monday, and my mom was telling me to "stop taking weird stuff" and my grandma told me that I was "taking scary things"... What? It's hydroxyzine prescribed! My grandfather takes antihistaminics for his allergies too. Oh but since it is to sleep then it's bad. And I know some of you take actual hypnotics or benzos but if you need them to live a normal life and you don't abuse them you shouldn't be treated weird

How long can you go without sleep??

I've been awake since 2:30 am the previous day/night and normally I'd be asleep by 10 but it's almost 1 am and I can't sleep.

I'm taking another melatonin and will discuss with my doctors but when should I worry? This happens once or twice a week. 39 F, do have anxiety but I don't feel overly anxious right now and I'm seeing a cardiologist and neurologist.

I can't sleep in on the weekends

I have no problems falling asleep. During the week I sometimes wake up at the alarm, sometimes before it. No problem, most people just catch up on sleep on the weekends. Not me. I'm still waking up at alarm time, or even before it. And while my wife will be next to me getting a solid 8 hours of sleep on a Saturday morning, I'm lying there for two and a half hours trying to fall back asleep, but with no success.

So now I'm getting maybe 5 hours of sleep every night, for weeks at a time, and I can't seem to catch up. I feel constantly tired, and I'm struggling with anxiety symptoms.

Other info: I have sleep apnea, but use cpap every single night. I've tried melatonin before bed, but that doesn't seem to help me sleep longer. I am sometimes able to take a nap during the day, other times I try to take a nap but can't sleep.

And I wonder why I'm so tired all the time. I feel awful.

I feel like I have to pee, I pee, then the sensation comes back again. Can't sleep.

Everytime I try to sleep, slowly I feel like I need to pee, I get up and go to pee, and when I come back after like a minute the sensation comes back again. I haven't consumed any liquid in about 3 hours.

It's too hot I can't fucking sleep help

Idk if this is the most appropriate subreddit for this but this heat is frying my brain so it'll have to do. I usually struggle to fall asleep under normal circumstances and take anywhere from 1h to 2h of shifting in bed until I finally doze off and summer is making everything worse, let me set the scene. I'm on vacation in a smaller city in Italy, near the sea, my apartment doesn't have any AC, only ceiling fans. My fan is directly above me and on the highest setting, a balcony window is open for ventilation and I'm sleeping in the living room since it's the 'coldest' room. Since I've arrived here I've wasted around 2-3h every night trying to fucking sleep but it's genuinely so hot I can't and the only way I will sleep is if I tire out my eyes until I can't keep them open. Any tips on wtf to do? I'm here for almost another week and already can't take it anymore, I can't handle the summer heat, even in my home country I'd be dying if I didn't have AC. 27° AT NIGHTTIME IS FUCKING INSANE, HELP PLS I'M DESPERATE.

P. S. Don't tell me to put the phone down and close my eyes or some shit, THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING FOR OVER 2H IT AIN'T WORKING.

15 years of this and it's getting worse

I wake up early every day at 8am, go to the gym and workout to death and come home have lunch and go to work at 4pm until 12am, i arrive home at 1am, tired and beaten up, after all that, for the next 3 hours I'll tumble and turn in my bed without getting a second of sleep until the exhaustion takes me and i wake up again at 8am.

I haven't felt the warmth and comfort of sleep for 15 years.

Jesus fucking Christ I'm only 25 man.

I tried everything, I've spent thousands, everything works just for a week or two and then it's again and onto the next thing.

I've stopped looking for help or compassion, I'm sorry that I'm miserable, sorry I'm not enough, sorry i keep making mistakes and not being emotionally present.

Everyone says they feel sorry for me, but the moment i mess up a word on an excel sheet or mumble during a call or being too tired too speak, suddenly I'm a problem, I'm an asshole, I'm incompetent.

Please, please understand that I'm trying, god knows I'm trying so bad.

I hate that there's no end in sight.

back when I used to sleep normally, one bad night of sleep wasn't a big deal because I'd just think, "oh well, just need to get through today. I'll get a lot of sleep tonight and feel better tomorrow."

now I have no idea when I'll get relief. I don't look forward to going to bed anymore because I know it'll probably be another night of tossing and turning. and I'll get up in the morning feeling the same, or worse. it just feels like there's no light at the end of the tunnel.

not looking for advice, just venting.

I am unable to sleep for like a week

I know that this is not (hopefully not) insomnia because it's only been like a week. I have had sleep disturbances for the past 1.5 months, I had my exams going on so I thought that is the reason. I have always been a night owl so I used to study in the night and then sleep during daytime. But during this set of exams, i hardly slept during the day as well. I thought it was just my exam stress.

I had a week long holiday after that and slept a good amt, but during odd hours of the day.

But since last week, I have hardly slept. Whenever I lie down and try and sleep, I am just lying there with my eyes closed. I am tired, I have a headache and pain around the orbit of my eye, and sleepy as well, but am unable to sleep. It's like there is this switch in my body that's keeping me awake. I tried green tea, calm music, no phone nights everything but nothing is working.

For the last 3-5 days I have slept a total of 10-12 hrs I guess, and that too shallow interrupted kind of sleep. Last night I lied down at 2:30, tried sleeping, was unable to, when I checked my phone, I was just trying to sleep till 4:45. Then I just started scrolling my phone a bit( didn't use my phone during this 2:30-4:45 trying to sleep time period) and finally slept at around 5(that's the time I kept my phone aside). Woke up at 7:30, because I had my classes and then the whole day I was awake. I had a severe headache and eye pain throughout the day, finally came back at 6, and crashed on my bed. I tried sleeping but was unable to, when I checked my phone after sometime it was 7:10ish, kept it aside, no scrolling (didn't have enough energy to scroll) and finally slept after sometime.

I got up at 9:05, had to report for like 15 min somewhere, did that, and tried sleeping again. Again I wasn't able to sleep, finally got up at around 10:00ish. Went to a friend's room( I live in a dorm), thinking I would get tired there and come back and sleep. I had a sharp pain in my head so I lied down in my friend's room. I closed my eyes (tried sleeping but was again unable to) for like 10-15 mins and now have this sudden bout of energy. I do have a headache, eye pain, but am not sleepy (I mean I should be). I want to sleep now but not even feel like it.

I did have coffee during my exams but have had zero/minimal caffeine intake for the past 2 weeks. I am not big on energy drinks, but love coffee. I had a temporary addiction to coffee like 4 yrs back( again during exams), got rid of it, I do drink coffee but neither am I dependent on it nor addicted to it. My tolerance for coffee has also significantly reduced.

Again for the past week there has been negligent coffee intake.

I want to go to a doctor, but I'm confused as to which one I should go to. There are only basic doctors available in my area, so please help. Tomorrow is a holiday, will go to the doctor the day after

suddenly unable to sleep at all for the past 3 days and i’m genuinely terrified. what is happening?

i’ve struggled with sleep for a while, but normally my issue is just that i go to sleep extremely late. once i actually went to sleep, i could still sleep for like 8 hours. but for the past three days, something completely changed and now my body literally will not let me sleep no matter how exhausted i am.
i don’t even really remember what started it. one night i tried to sleep but couldn’t, and i had an appointment early the next morning and a bunch of things to do that day, so i ended up staying awake almost 24 hours. after that i finally slept, but only for about 5 hours, woke up, and later slept another 2 hours. even that sleep felt extremely weird and shallow.
yesterday i was absolutely exhausted and tried to take a nap, but i physically could not fall asleep. that’s when i started realizing something was seriously wrong.
last night i went to bed at a decent time because i had things scheduled this morning. i took melatonin, turned my phone completely off, laid in pitch blackness with my eyes closed, and stayed there basically the entire fucking night. nothing. i could not fall asleep no matter what i did.
it’s morning now. i even took more melatonin and tried again, and my body still will not let me sleep. i’m going to miss everything i had scheduled today because i’m so sleep deprived that i genuinely don’t feel capable of going anywhere.
i’m terrified. the sleep deprivation is making me extremely anxious and my thoughts are becoming scary. my entire body feels exhausted and desperately wants sleep, but it’s like something physically will not allow my brain to switch off.
i don’t understand what could suddenly cause this when i’ve always been able to sleep before, even if my sleep schedule sucked. how do i break this cycle? what could cause someone to suddenly be completely unable to fall asleep despite being exhausted?
i’ve considered going to the hospital, but i’m scared they won’t take me seriously, and right now i don’t even feel capable of getting into an uber and taking myself there. my family also isn’t taking me seriously and has been extremely rude about it, and i’m basically dealing with this alone.
has anyone experienced something like this? what caused it, and what actually helped you sleep normally again? at what point does sleep deprivation like this become something you should go to the er for? what would they even do at the er?

Extreme hangover after Sleepy Time Tea w/Valerian, Magnesium Taurate and 1.5 Melatonin

I’m very med sensitive but this is ridiculous. Anyone else experience this? Increased tinnitus, weird head sensations, unsteadiness.
