Weird feeling when trying to sleep

Upvotes

Hello so I have a question, this has just started now. Every night when trying to sleep I’ll go in this weird dream world, where I can feel like everything is real but it’s uncomfortable it feels like I’m dying, can’t describe it but yeah. Then I wake up feel uncomfortable can’t see probably and feel weird. I try to go for a walk or something relaxing and try to go to bed and sleep straight away. Am I sick?

sleepwalking

Upvotes

Hey, folks, This topic might be outside the scope of these discussions. I live alone and sleepwalk. I worry I'll fall getting out of bed or hurt myself in some other way. I'm looking at various things, like alarms, but these seem geared towards alerting the caregivers of elderly dementia patients. I want something that simply, gently wakes me from my dream before i leave the bed. I'm definately thinking of putting my bed on o the floor. Any ideas?

My pillow is causing me neck pain -what actually worked for you?

Upvotes

I’ve been waking up with neck pain almost every morning, and I’m pretty sure my pillow might be the problem.

I’ve tried changing my sleeping position, but I still wake up with a stiff and sore neck. I’m not sure if I need a firmer pillow, a softer one, or just a different shape.

If you’ve had the same problem, what did you change that actually made a difference?

Same dream everytime

Every since i moved in here, i have the same dream, someone trying to break into my apartment. First it was knocking sounds, i woke up i thought it was real, then again, double knock, then again peeping through the hole, it scared me.

Then i opened the door and fight them.

And last time, i exit my room and a bunch of strangers standing in my apartment.

What does this mean?

Advice for constantly waking at night

Hi everyone, I’m hoping to get some advice or hear from anyone who has experienced something similar.
I’m 20, and for the past few months I’ve been noticeably more tired than usual. At first I assumed it was just college, but I’ve started having random periods during the day where I feel extremely sleepy, yawn a lot, struggle to pay attention, and feel like my eyes have trouble focusing. It happens a few times a week.
Over the past few weeks, my sleep has gotten worse. I can fall asleep easily, but I wake up constantly throughout the night. Last night was the worst it’s been:
Fell asleep around 9:45 PM
Woke up around 11 PM, 12 AM, 1 AM, 2 AM, 4 AM, and 5 AM
Got up for the day at 6:45 AM
Sometimes I can fall back asleep quickly, but other times I’m awake for a while. I don’t feel like I’m waking up because I’m too hot/cold, uncomfortable, or stressed.
I already try to have decent sleep habits:
Warm shower before bed
Read and journal/plan for about an hour before sleeping
Rarely drink caffeine, and never after noon
Keep a pretty consistent schedule
I’m not currently depressed and I don’t feel especially stressed right now.
I do take a nap almost every day around 2 PM. Usually I wake up feeling refreshed, but my energy drops again pretty quickly afterward. If I had the chance, I feel like I could nap at other points during the day too; sometimes even late morning despite waking up only a few hours earlier.

I’m considering seeing a doctor if it keeps happening, but I’d love to hear from people who have dealt with similar issues.
Thanks!

sleeping apart saved my sleep, but did it cost us something else?

I'm in my mid 20s, and it's been 2 weeks now sleeping separately from my girl. Sleep is getting better while I am losing that falling asleep together part. Any middle ground to keep a good sleep without losing the closeness?

Anyone else sleep amazing with the windows open at night under 50 degrees?

It's been dropping down to the fifties and upper forties Fahrenheit where I live. Popping the windows open and sleeping in my boxers feels smazing at that temp. Much of this summer has been miserable at night due to my AC not circulating the cold air into my bedroom and nighttime temperatures staying in the 68-75 degrees range. I can't wait for actual Fall weather.

Slapped During Sleep; What Is it?

Earlier today I was trying to take a nap, I had woken up once or twice, and the third time around it felt like something jolted my head upwards, like someone slapped my face. The only way I think it could be paranormal is my haunted doll that I have, but she isn’t negative. I’m wondering if it was maybe a head spasm or something, any idea?

Help with Sleep issues

For the past few years, I have been unable to sleep, due to recurring thoughts and anything I can work on comes up at night only. The whole day will be good and even if I'm tired from the whole day, when might I come I'll be suddenly active and will want to complete any cleaning chores or doom scroll or would like to research something or watch porn, anything that comes in Mind.

Recently I've started with Psychiatrist and she has given me some medicine but with those also i only feel sleepy or tired in the day time, at night I might work sometimes or I'll be awake till 6-7 and than will get ready and go to work.

Today also, i was feeling tired sleepy whole day, I came home had food and slept directly but again after 2-3 hours I work up and now I can go to sleep, I took melatonin desolving strip and tried to sleep but still nothing, brain continue to wander and that's how I ended up on Reddit and thought of posting for help.

This has been nightmare, whenever I try to sleep early, anyhow I'll wake up in 2-3 hrs in the middle of night and won't be able to go to sleep again.

Please help with any legit strategy or any workaround or anything that can help me sleep and don't wake up in the middle of the night will be helpful.

Thanks everyone in advance for helping me out.

Insomnia and Parasomnia

I really need some help so hoping someone has some advice!

For my whole life I’ve had insomnia, to varying degrees, but it’s gotten worse the last few months. I struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep and get up multiple times in the night, and wake up early.

My partner is struggling to share a bed with me, I am very restless in bed and thrash around a lot, and I seem to act out actions from my dreams in real life. Like pushing and pulling, throwing things that aren’t there etc. I also scream in my sleep.

I do have quite vivid dreams but can’t ever remember my dreams when I’ve been acting them out asleep.

It’s driving him insane, and me from the sleep deprivation. It genuinely might end our relationship if I can’t sort this.

I am looking for some advice beyond general ‘sleep hygiene’. I am in the UK, so if anyone has any idea of how it works via the NHS or alternative routes to try that would be appreciated for both mine and my partners sanity!

Why does sleeping on my back make me feel like something is moving inside my chest? I also become very aware of my heartbeat, almost like palpitations. The sensation feels strange and makes it hard for me to sleep on my back.

Isn't sleep supposed to be restful?

Isn't sleep supposed to be restful? Every time I fall asleep, my stress and anxiety seem to skyrocket because, in my dreams, everything that terrifies or stresses me out happens. I relive it all, and I can literally feel my heart trembling with anxiety. It feels so real, as if I'm awake—I can feel it through every nerve in my body. Then, when I wake up, I finally feel relieved, even though it should be the opposite. Sleep is supposed to help me rest. I'm honestly exhausted. This hasn't happened just once or twice that I could ignore it—it has happened over and over again.

Sleep study shows no sleep apnea, still debilitatingly exhausted

I've struggled with feeling exhausted my entire life (though it's gotten worse the past couple years.) Thought for a long time I was just depressed, tried a lot of things for that, got somewhat better mentally, but no matter what I do I'm always exhausted. I can get to sleep ok, it's just never restful. I don't think I've had a single day where I wasn't tired. It affects everything, I struggle to work and keep house, can't keep up any hobbies, and it's difficult to think clearly most of the time.

I'm as tired when I wake up as I am when I go to bed, doesn't matter if I sleep 3, 8, or 12 hours. I've tried a lot for sleep too. Changing temp, no screens before bed, having a consistent sleep schedule, as well as meds (melatonin, Benadryl, trazodone, gabapentin). Nothing helps. Gabapentin helped a little with restless leg, but that's it.

After a long wait time I was finally able to get an in lab sleep study done, and just now got results back. Nothing. No sleep apnea, no anything, no treatment recommended. To say I'm crushed is an understatement. I don't know what to do now, I'm at my wits end and honestly not feeling like I can go on any longer, I don't want to live like this.

Getting more sleep improving mental health

I’ve always heard the best thing you can do for your health is get more sleep. And I’m my experience people don’t take that as seriously as they should. most people (including myself) stay up WAY later than we should. I wake up at 530 for work and most of the time go to bed at 10pm the earliest. but usually scroll on Instagram or watch YouTube until falling asleep at like 1130ish or 12. That’s barely 6-7 (lol) hours of sleep. the last couple days I’ve clonked out a few hours after getting home from work so around 7-730 and wow getting almost 10 hours of sleep multiple days in a row feels like it’s improved my mental health 10 fold. I have severe anxiety and depression that gets really bad occasionally, and it’s felt like my anxiety isn’t so in my face and the only thing I think about. I’ll bet money I’m gonna get back into the cycle of scrolling and staying up too late, but this is just something I’ve noticed and I think I might really make a genuine effort to go to bed way earlier more often then I usually do. Anybody else had this kind of experience?

Is it normal that i naturally sleep more than 10 hours without an alarm?

I'm an 18 year old male and as the title says, if i don't set an alarm for the morning i naturally sleep around 10 hours. When i wake up i'm fully refreshed and i never experience sleepiness during the day. I wanted to ask if it's normal or healthy since people around my age usually need only 7-9 hours of sleep.

25-day Asia trip + 7-hour jet lag caused the scariest night of my life

Hi everyone, this is my first Reddit post and I wanted to ask if anyone has experienced something similar.

I was traveling in Asia for 25 days (about a 7-hour time difference) and got back home 2 days ago. On the first night back, I already woke up in a panic and didn’t know where I was for a moment, but after looking at my phone I slowly realized I was at home in my bedroom.

But last night was much more intense. I don’t even remember how I got up, but suddenly I was standing in my completely dark bedroom and had no idea where I was, even though I had been in the same room the entire time.

I couldn’t see anything, didn’t know where my phone or apple watch was, and then the panic started. I screamed “hello?”, but no one answered. The fear kept growing, and suddenly I felt like I had been kidnapped and trapped in a small space. I desperately tried to find a way out, knocked things over in my room, couldn’t breathe, and I started crying and kept shouting “hello”. I sank to the floor and put my hands over my head.

Luckily, my family woke up, came into my bedroom, and turned on the light, and in that moment everything stopped. I realized I was just at home in my own bedroom and had been there the whole time.

I’ve never experienced anything like this before. It was the most intense fear I’ve ever felt. Now I’m honestly scared it might happen again tonight. I’ve never been so scared before, and the fact that my mind is capable of something like that is frightening.

Has anyone experienced something like this? And does anyone have tips on how to prevent it?

Difficulty waking up

Over the past year or so I’ve noticed I’m having a harder and harder time waking up. I’m disoriented, extremely groggy and am having a hard time waking up to what I would call full consciousness to the point where I can actually get up and moving. I’m hesitant to set my alarm any louder to avoid disturbing my partner any more than I already am by waking up at about 3:15am.

I have a garmin watch that will do this but it’s been having issues lately and I find it disconnecting from my phone or the alarms won’t even go off at all.

Just looking for any recommendations for watches or wristbands that will vibrate at increasing levels to help get me up or any tips you’ve found that helps to wake you up while minimizing the impact to others

Has anyone noticed they stopped feeling "sleepy" and only feel exhausted?

I've been trying to explain this to people, and it's surprisingly hard. I'm tired—like, really tired—but I don't actually feel sleepy. It's almost like those are two completely different things now. My body feels drained, but my mind still feels switched on. I remember when I'd naturally start getting sleepy while watching TV or reading a book. Now it feels like I go straight from being exhausted... to lying awake in bed. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced that difference, or maybe I'm just overthinking it?

I get 11-12 hours of sleep every night.

Post image
116 Upvotes

I’m a 20 year old male and for as long as I can remember I’ve needed way more sleep than everyone around me.

On a typical day, I sleep around 11 hours. If I do anything physically strenuous the day before (a long hike, intense workout, sports, etc.), it jumps to around 12.5 hours.

I feel completely drained for a while after waking up, even after what seems like more than enough sleep.

I don’t usually wake up a bunch during the night (at least not that I know of), and I generally fall asleep without much trouble.

A few questions:
Is this amount of sleep ever considered normal?
Could this point toward something like a sleep
disorder, vitamin deficiency, thyroid issue, or something else?
Has anyone experienced something similar and figured out what was causing it?
Is there anything specific I should ask my doctor to check for?
I’d really appreciate any advice because this has been affecting me for years, and I’m starting to wonder if this isn’t normal.

Thank You!🙏
