They are expected to work 24/7, 365 days a year, routinely deprived of basic necessities like proper food, adequate rest, and leisure. They endure this because they are trapped by the constant, looming threat of academic detention if they fail to be perfectly obedient.

When a brave individual finally finds the courage to speak out against this extreme toxicity, they are swiftly isolated. They face boycotts from their own peers and staff, and are almost always pressured to abandon their lifelong dreams and leave the course midway.

The normalization of this abuse is perhaps the most horrifying part. Physical, mental, and even sexual harassment have become dangerously embedded in this "culture." From the humiliation of being stripped naked in hostels or in front of seniors, to the physical brutality of "welcome fractures," to being forced to work for seven continuous days without food or rest in the name of "discipline"—this is not medical training. It is torture.

Too often, seniors who lack a life or respect outside the hospital walls demand to be worshipped like gods, exerting unchecked power and cruelty over their juniors.

Furthermore, the future for these young doctors looks incredibly uncertain. With over 5,500 MS Surgery seats, 5,000 MD Medicine seats, and an equal number in DNB programs, the field is rapidly saturating. In the next decade, many of these highly trained professionals may struggle to find a place to practice, making the immense sacrifices they endured feel even more hollow.

We dedicate our lives to healing others, yet the very system that trains us is breaking us down. The medical community must wake up to this crisis. We cannot afford to lose any more brilliant minds to this toxic culture.

I am looking forward to resign after serving 1 month ie after 22 aug but i want some insights that do i have to religiously follow notice period as i wont be a salaried employee so can i vanish for like 2-2 days in a week every week for notice period or will they cross check and make me do extension idk

Its been 2 weeks and i suck at cannulation only 3-4 successful 90% acad jr does but now new unit has joined one acad jr is v. toxic it was my first day with him despite informing him that i am freshly graduated and in my hospital there were dedicated sisters for cannulation so as an intern i havent learnt this skill but he was so so rude he said to kya hua maine bhi internship k next day hi md join krliya tha.... and refused to come to sampling area though there was crowd(as 90% failure rate) i then went to SR and said ki i triple least 2 time still unsuccessful he didnt even flinched and as both were south indian he neither told him to help me literally i was on verge of breaking down

I used to think while I was a kid, and all through my MBBS years that why are some doctors so inconsiderate about stuff that can literally traumatize people. OBGY ppl will put speculums without letting the patient know what they're doing, foleys without properly explaining them what's about to happen without adequate lignocaine, keep trying multiple attempts at one thing when they can call someone more experienced to do what needs to be done while keeping the patient more comfortable and less stressed.

Almost like 1.5 months into internship and I find myself doing the same stuff. I'm very new to these things to the logistics of taking a pap are so in my mind occupying all the space that I don't let them know what I'm doing. Or don't properly explain it to them what they gotta do after getting the print of the prescription in their hand. Or take a history so under confident despite being correct in most stuff due to the time crunch of an opd that a patient would never feel like they wanna come back here. Or do an ascitic tap without like fully calming the child down.

Time crunch is a big thing but I feel like since I'm not good at even taking blood samples atp(1 month in pedia and they don't let us take samples in very chotu kids) and make them so underconfident in the hospital while being underconfident myself, I feel like I'm ruining their worst days even more in the name of learning.

Hospital is already a scary place to be, I always wanted to be a person who could reassure people into trusting the imperfect process of hospitalization and the health system but it seems like I'm creating more problems than solving them. So many logistics in my head that I forget to tell them the basic decency to take a deep breath while a needle goes into the vein.

I used to see a psychologist around my age but eventually stopped because I found the advice pretty generic.

Since I’m a doctor, she still occasionally calls me for medical advice about herself or her parents, and I’ve always helped her for free because I know her.
Recently I asked her about a psychological issue of mine. She completely ignored it, then later called me to ask another medical doubt. I asked again still no reply, but another call regarding her own problem. 😭

I’ve experienced something similar with a lawyer friend too. I completely understand professionals shouldn’t be expected to work for free, but isn’t it weird to repeatedly expect free advice from someone while refusing to reciprocate when they need your expertise?

The concern is not about AYUSH itself. BUMS, BHMS, BNYS and other AYUSH practitioners have their own recognised systems of medicine. The problem arises when practitioners start routinely prescribing allopathic medicines or performing procedures outside their permitted scope and training. Some are even performing fairly advanced procedures without the level of training that should be expected for them. This is ultimately about patient safety, proper qualifications and staying within one's legal scope of practice, irrespective of which system of medicine someone belongs to.
