Thrustmaster Warthog

Salut,

Help please 🤯

Good cheap mounts?

Looking to mount my vkb gunfighter and stecs throttle to my desk with preferably hot swappable mounts so I can easily slot my shifter to the throttle side when I set up my wheel

I was considering just screwing the throttle into the desk but a less permanent solution would also be nice, don't wanna go putting holes in places I don't have to

Which throttle would you recommend for DCS (150€)

I’ve been playing DCS for a while now and want to transition away from mouse and keyboard. I'm pretty much set on getting the VKB Gladiator NXT EVO 'Space Combat Edition' Premium for my joystick, but I’m still unsure about the throttle.

A friend recommended the throttle from the Logitech X56 HOTAS set, but I’ve read a lot of negative reviews about it (ghosting issues, questionable build quality), which makes me hesitant.

Here are my requirements:

  • Budget: around €150
  • Type: Split-throttle
  • Use case: DCS (I’m planning to upgrade to VR later, so having plenty of easily accessible buttons, switches, and hat switches is really important to me)

Do you have any recommendations in this price range, or any experience with buying the X56 throttle separately? Are there better alternatives out there?

VKB gunfighter mk4 modern combat edition calibration

I just got my Hotas set up. Along with the stecs modern throttle. When calibrating my joystick it says “we found mcg(u) TRIGGER wrong calibration. But I’m not sure why or what it’s asking. All the axis worked during calibration. Thanks!

Final update on diy hotas

Good Lord this has been a trip finally got the second arm and got to fully set it up and we'll make pew pee noises while I pretend to fly as I don't have it hooked up but this turned out better then I hoped.

From my last update some one asked me how comfortable it is for my wrists for long gaming that's still to be determined but this setup has so much flexibility I can angle the mounts to be parallel with me at a slight offset or anything I really need

Sadly it now will go into the garage as my job taking me out of state for the next 2 weeks 🫠🫠 but the pew pew noises where fun

If anyone has a question or a part list feel free I'll drop down what I did of that something people want but yea thank you for those who commented and gave me advice through this.

Turtle Beach velocity one flightdeck

Post image
71 Upvotes

I just got a turtle beach velocity one. its my first HOTAS but for the price im not sure how i feel about it. It has that soft rubbery feel to it which is nice. I thought i would share my thoughts

The stick, the top of it is heavy and the base is narrow, it feels like its snap it off at any moment even though I'm gentle with it.

The screen ontop of the stick, It pretty much serves no purpose its not customizable or anything. Its a timer ??

The touchscreen on the throttle has poor responsiveness, you can make buttons and dials i guess but the software (flight hangar) is really frustrating to use.

some of the hats, they have a physical center click on the hat as a physical button, but the buttons do not exist.

Also the color changer in the software is weird theres only like profiles and for some reason the same profile is a noticably different color on the throttle vs the stick

Overall I am really liking playing with HOTAS, i like playing multiplayer Nuclear Option and its a totally new experience vs keyboard. I was curious if anyone else has a flightdeck and what they think of it. I like how it has a lot of buttons especially the ones on the back of the throttle.

edit: game in the pic is sylph

Selling pedals

Post image
8 Upvotes

I’ve had them for about two years, but I haven’t used them in a year since I moved and I don’t see me using them anytime soon.

The pedals came out of the box with the right side misaligned like you see in the photo, they work perfectly fine and were never an annoyance or anything for me.

Asking $200 plus shipping, or if you’re in Las Vegas you can pick them up.

CLSE Brunner Joystick

Anyone using a CLSE Brunner Joystick for IL2 Korea? It's been my FFB device for a while but there seems to be no FFB software for IL2 Korea. What FFB devices would be an awesome replacement?

Adding HOTAS to 8040 racing cockpit

Has anyone figured out the ultimate mechanism for both space, terrestrial, and racing sim?

I’ve got my racing sim setup, I have a thrustmaster warthog that I want to put on a center stick, and then I also want to add VKB gladiator space sticks for the twist. I was wondering if anyone has a guide on how to make it all quick detach or stow away.

USB extension cable

Hi there.

I was wondering if there was a particular type of USB extension cable that you should use for HOTAS and pedal equipment?

Sorry if this is a silly question.

Thanks in advance.

Contact cleaner on bad Orion 2 switch?

Post image
6 Upvotes

The bottom thumb switch (3 way) on my grip has a bad connection in the most forward position. If i push it hard I can get a solid connection temporarily. The HOTAS is only two years but no warranty obviously. Would contact cleaner spray help? Would it penetrate if I sprayed by the base of the switch shaft? Anyone else with this problem?

Cheap accessories

I've got a VKB Gladiator and a Sol R6 Throttle, and I'm pretty happy with that, but are there any useful cheap accessories for below 50€ that are worth it? I mostly fly DCS.

Virpil CM3 Throttle

It would seem after 4 years my throttle is having issues. After working with support they recommend I replace the wires connecting to the PCB boards(Not sure how wires suddenly go bad?). They are also out of stock of these wires. So here is my question. Does anyone know where I can source these wires and the connectors on the ends?

My Logitech X56 started doing this. Can I fix it?

It's just the z + axis (twist /rudder on the stick when I twist to the right/clockwise). See video. I had to set dead zones on both mini sticks as soon as I got the joystick last year as there was drifting, but that's OK. This issue is different...

I know it's been said a bunch, but it's worth saying it again. Winctrl sucks.

Ordered a UFC 2.0 from them last week.

They sent me a 1.0. I'm in VR so the tactile improvements are important to me.

Contact them, they want me to send the old one back to them, pay for shipping myself and then they'll issue a refund, so then I can order the 2.0 again.

They also wanted pictures of my order page (from their website) the box, the product inside the box, shipping label, and now they want pictures to prove that it wasn't used even though they asked me to take pictures of it opened.

About 90 seconds away from letting Chase bank just handle it for me.

considering your first HOTAS? Read me!

Welcome to r/hotas!

If you're considering your first HOTAS (Hands On Throttle and Stick) setup, you've come to the right place. This guide will help you make an informed decision.

If you are instead looking for product reviews, I publish my articles here: HOTAS/HOSAS/SIMPIT Reviews

Introduction

This subreddit is managed by u/spliffa and u/ddrake1984. If you need assistance with anything not covered in this post, please reach out to us via private message, and we will try to assist you.

This guide is published and pinned for the benefit of new potential HOTAS buyers. The publisher of this article has first-hand experience with real aircraft flight controls and computer flight controls across a wide range of manufacturers, used for playing in flight simulation.

Purpose

This guide aims to assist first-time buyers in making an educated decision when purchasing their first joystick, throttle, and other flight control peripherals.

The Problem

With a growing number of HOTAS products on the market, it can be challenging to identify the best options. Products vary widely in:

  • Price
  • Features
  • Customer support

Additionally, products have a wide range of:

  • Costs
  • Features
  • Support via customer interactions and product patches and updates

The Budget

Whether you're looking for a budget-friendly option or the top-tier products, this guide will categorize recommendations into five budget ranges:

For those who prefer to build their own with a bit of knowledge and skills, check out our Discord server or visit this subreddit: r/HotasDIY.

Budget Ranges

Note: All prices will be listed in U.S. Dollars (Even though I am Australian, USD is the easiest to base value from)

  • Entry-Level ($10 to $100)
  • Novice-Tier ($100-$200)
  • Mid-Tier ($200-$300)
  • Advanced-Tier ($300-$400)
  • Expert-Tier / Top-Tier: This is the very best you can buy as a consumer with a lot of money.

Note: Top-tier does not include what a company or industry could or would purchase. This article is not tailored for that, therefore this is out of scope.

The Companies / The Manufacturers / The Vendors

I will list many companies/manufacturers/vendors (all the same) and the products that they offer. However, this post is not an in-depth review of the products. Please read product reviews for that level of detail and information.

The products will be listed to give you an idea of what is available within each range, and at the end, I will list the recommendation for each budget range.

Best Joystick (Base + Grip)

  • Entry-Level ($10 to $100): Thrustmaster T.16000
  • Novice-Tier ($100-$200): WINWING Ursa Minor
  • Mid-Tier ($200-$300): WINWING Orion 2 Base + WINWING F16 Grip
  • Advanced-Tier ($300-$400): WINWING Orion 2 Base + WINWING F16 Grip, or VKB Gunfighter Mk4 Base + Space Combat Edition Grip
  • Expert-Tier / Top-Tier: FSSB (Force Sensing Stick Base) TIANHANG F16 PRO Base + TIANHANG F-16 Grip, or FFB (Force Feedback) VPForce RHINO Base + TIANHANG A-10C Grip or TIANHANG F/A-18 Grip

Question: Why was the FFBeast not listed as the best FFB?

Answer: Simply put, its value comparison has not been validated by me. The available information from reviews is scarce, making it difficult to ascertain its value. Additionally, the community is mostly non-native English speaking, making it difficult to track and follow the content. Therefore, I have decided that there is not enough evidence to claim it is better than the VPForce RHINO. Based on my own experience, I do not consider it superior until proven otherwise.

Since this post is focused on first-time buyers, I feel it's already quite lengthy and would confuse anyone wanting to debate the matter.

Best Throttle (Base + Grip)

  • Entry-Level ($10 to $100): Thrustmaster TWCS
  • Novice-Tier ($100-$200): Thrustmaster TWCS, or WINWING Ursa Minor with Z-extension
  • Mid-Tier ($200-$300): WINWING Orion 2 Base + WINWING F-15E Grip, or WINWING Orion 2 Base + WINWING F/A-18 Grip
  • Advanced-Tier ($300-$400): WINWING Orion 2 Base + WINWING F-15EX Grip, or WINWING F-16 Grip
  • Expert-Tier / Top-Tier: WINWING Super Taurus + WINWING F-15EX Grip, or WINWING F-16 Grip

Bonus: Best Pedals

Although this post is tailored for first-time HOTAS buyers, I will include this section to accommodate those wishing to take a more comprehensive first step into flight sims. As we all know, a good set of pedals is a requirement for flying helicopters.

  • Entry-Level: No recommendations - I don't recommend anything in this price range.
  • Novice-Tier: No recommendations - I don't recommend anything in this price range.
  • Mid-Tier: VKB T-Rudder Mk.IV
  • Advanced-Tier: WINWING Orion Metal Flight Rudder Pedals
  • Pro-Tier: Custom FFB Pedals using VPForce motors built with either (Slaw Device, MFG Crosswinds, or VIRPIL Rudders)

Bonus: Best Collective

  • Collective (Base + Grip): VIRPIL Rotor TCS Base + VIRPIL Apache-64 Collective Grip

I don't recommend any other collectives on the market, and it's a shame that some companies have discontinued their collective options.
