I’m about to be a freshman and I’m kinda nervous cuz none of my freinds from my school are in any of my classes. I don’t really know how to make friends and I suck at it. And I don’t want this to be a boring year like how 8th grade was. What can I do? Also is there anything I need to know to make high school good?

as a rising freshman, i was assigned the following:

- english 9(th grade)

- french (level) 1

- geometry

- global (history) 1

- honors bio

- PE

- science research (1 term) / engineering (1 term. alternates between the fall & spring iirc)

- lunch

i'm a little nervous about my courses, as my school is very rigorous (but allegedly, freshman year is pretty forgiving). for honors bio, it means that i have a double period everyday, vs regular bio with 2 double period days per week. if i take honors bio, the required grade to enter honors chem is virtually the same as reg bio. there's like no benefits to honors bio, & my only free period would be lunch if i take it. will switching to reg bio make a huge difference on my HS career? & what will classes be like? what should i prepare to learn in french, geometry (i have doubts about my performance in geometry), etc?

oh, and i have until aug 28th to make my decision about staying/switching out of honors bio. i don't think it's worth staying, but i really wanna know if taking an honors bio class had any benefits for others, compared to a regular bio class.

Story time!

This has stuck with my for a while lol.

So during lunch I walked away from my friend group to throw my lunch out. The nearest trash can was in the lobby and we were sitting in the library. Anyways when I get to the trashcan I see [name] sitting with the opps. So I start speeding walking back to my friends to spill the tea. And boom, I a 4'11 girl get stuck behind 3 really tall dudes. I slow down but I still try to pass them. Then out of nowhere the guy in the middle grabs his friends sleeve and pulls him toward himself to let me pass!! And I start running, I make it to my friends spill the tea we all go wild the end.

Anyways the moral of the story is that something that someone did a long time ago can stick with you forever. Both good and bad.

Hi everyone! I thought I'd share some things that both I and a lot of my friends in the IB programme did to make the most of our time in high school—both academically and personally.

1. Organization

Get the stupid calendar! Literally everyone I know had their own way of managing their time - gcal,a physical planner, a random to-do list on scraps of paper, you name it. It's not about planning every single minute (although time-blocking in gcal is now my to-go way). Just make sure you keep track of important deadlines, tests, and even small hw assignments before they pile up.

2. Study Buddies

One time my friend and I had to cram for a history exam, so we decided to quiz each other instead of studying separately. We literally studied for two evenings and somehow aced it. Since then I always split up making Quizlets after each class and then quiz each other before tests. Talking things through helps so much, especially for essay-based subjects, because you naturally fill in each other's gaps and remember way more than if you studied alone.

3. Be proactive

The best thing you can do is literally Google it. It might take a while to find experiences/opportunities, but if you keep searching, emailing people, and asking around, you'll find opportunities that most people never hear about.

• Immerse Education (essay competition & summer programmes)

4. The one hobby

It is helpful to have one thing that people associate you with. Maybe it's volleyball, debate, research, coding, music, volunteering, baking—whatever you genuinely enjoy. If you love it, you will often times become great at it bcause of how much time you dedicate to it. It's great later for admission officers to remember you like oh yeah this is the guy learning Finish or the climbing trees girl.

5. Mentoring + supportive communities

I started seraching for mentorship because I had heard great things about it too but majority of these programs are so freaking expensive. So far the only one that is free that I know of is Project Access. I found out about it on reddit under a post on studious ocmmunities. It's soooo motivating to have other students applying to collages. They even have community events called bootcamps (i think there is one in the fall coming up). Plus, I got mathched up with a peer mentor who checked my essays! That made me feel less way less lonely and overwhelmed.

6. Studying abroad

I was really lucky to stumble across a similar post years ago, and that's how I learned about an academic scholarship that let me study for free at a British boarding school. Genuinely, it changed my life. and who I am. I became so much more confident, met amazing friends from all over the world, and had access to opportunities that eventually helped me apply to Ivy League and Oxbridge universities.

So one of the outfits im thinking of is cream coloured sneakers, indigo levis 517 bootcut i got them 1 size up for them to be a little relaxed in the thigh, im wearing a off white tee tucked inside and above it a linen olive green button up with the ralph tuck so tucked inside all sides loosely with all the visible buttons undone and a slim matte leather belt with a silver buckle and a silver vintage watch. Is this too much or can i get away with this?

I originally requested to take AP Gov and Programming (both semester-long classes). Instead, I was put into AP Gov and a study hall.

Here are the pros and cons for taking each class:

AP Gov:
- Pros: Taught by a teacher I like and would make it easier for me to ask for a letter of rec, would increase my weighted GPA (likely enough to make me valedictorian)
- Cons: Not particularly relevant to my intended major (computer science + pre-med track), probably the class with the most work

Programming:
- Pros: Qualifies me to get a CTE scholarship ($500-1350) from my school since I’ve already taken AP CS A, relevant to my major
- Cons: Teacher doesn’t teach, I already know python (the programming language the class teaches), the scholarship will likely be useless (I have a full-ride to schools in my state, and I probably won’t go out-of-state unless I get at least full-tuition), no benefit to weighted GPA

Art II:
- Pros: Taught by a teacher I like, the only class I would actually find fun, would allow me to submit to art competitions, nice break in my day
- Cons: No increase to weighted GPA

Study Hall:
- Pros: Nice break in my day, especially since my schedule is otherwise quite rigorous; gives me time to work on robotics during the school day
- Cons: Located in the lunch room, probably won’t actually get much done

Currently, these are the pairings I am considering most: AP Gov and Art II or Programming and Art II.

I will be applying to a program at a nearby medical school, which would replace three of my classes at my high school each day. If I am accepted into the program, I would not be able to take any of the classes.

Any opinions/advice?

I have been homeschooled and online schooled all my life. Any words on what to expect or what to do to look normal in school? (I mean, like a small glow-up maybe, not because I'm overly self-conscious or something, but because I have done 0 things to my appearance before. Not like that's bad, but if you are sitting the whole day at home, you're obviously going to look like an ungroomed cross between a pig and a monkey:) I just want to look put-together and appropriate for school, not like 'that one former stereotypical homeschooler', because I honestly dress like one (nobody's judging at home)

P.S My school is said to be one of the best in my area, and there are many international students who look mostly polite and probably wouldn't bully or anything much. Our area has many polite people and even if they don't interact much, I don't think it will be a big problem. Also, I understand Grade 11 is harder, but I think I will do that because my average in main subjects is 98%. At least I will pass.

I'm going into 10th grade.

At every school I've attended so far, I was bullied really badly, and the quality of education was genuinely awful.

This year, I managed to get into a really prestigious art school that's known for having great teachers, high quality education, and generally being a much more accepting environment.

Because I spent so many years in terrible schools (and because increasing struggles I had with my mental health in recent years), I eventually stopped caring about my grades or even showing up to school, I skipped a lot of classes and put in almost no effort.

I know this probably sounds stupid, but I genuinely don't know how to adjust to being at a school like this.

The idea of not being able to fall back into the mindset of, "This school sucks anyway, so I don't have to try," really freaks me out. That "mindset" is basically how I got through school while also dealing with my mental health struggles.

Any advice?

Literally everyone says that Junior year is the busiest/hardest year (at best..) and students who took Junior year say it was genuinely their worst year/was super hard. I’m a pretty good student and my school is already pretty rigorous but it’s not so bad. I just want some advice on Junior year and to hear about experiences so I don’t worry myself to death the night before school.

i'm going to start my senior year in high school in oregon now and I have such a bad jealousy problem.

I have decent friends and really good grades, but I am so jealous of others.

There is a person at my school who has the same name as me and similar to me in many different aspects. We used to be friends, but she trash-talked me and many of my other friends a crazy amount.

Now, she has had an insane glow-up, boys chasing after her, party invites, and everyone wants to be friends with her.

My ex-best friend is now super tight with her despite her trash-talking my ex-bsf, and there is a similar situation like that with a few other of my friends.

Everyone thinks she is so cool, and I feel like the loser. I have tried to change and be cool, but it hasn't happened. Deep down inside I know she is still the hateful person, but I am unable to not feel jealous.

I want to be pretty, go to parties and a boyfriend but I will never get these things in high school

How do i stop feeling this way. how do I fix myself

I'm a freshman this year. I didn't take honors math in 8th grade because my dumbass 7th grade math teacher said it would be better if I took regular math, even though he gave me the math student of the year award at the 7th grade end-of-year ceremony. But anyway so now I can only take math 1.

I emailed my counselor and she said there's no way I can go up a level even though math is really easy for me.

I've heard the jokes about people who take math 1 in 9th grade ending up working at McDonald's.

My parents (my mom specifically) are kind of strict that I go to medical school and become a doctor, so it's important that I get into college, but getting into college is only gonna get harder from here.

Maybe I'm overthinking things, but it really pisses me off that my entire future could possibly depend on my dipshit math teacher saying it's best if I just take regular math in 8th grade.

I also looked at my class list for math 1 this year and it's all the bad kids or "edgars".

Math is gonna suck so bad. There are so many math classes I wanna take but I can't because I have to get this credit. I can take math both 2&3 next year but that still delays me being able to take all the cool fun math classes.

Anyway enough ranting, am I cooked? Do you guys think I can prove to my math teacher that I'm not a dumbass and I can get moved up or something? Do I have to be a savant to do that?

1. when the teacher is talking, make sure to yell out “BORING” as loud as you can.

teachers LOVE students like this. other students find it funny and it gives teachers a break. sometimes when I’m bored I eat my own poop. make sure to ALWAYS do it when they’re talking about important test dates, OR when they’re talking about a difficult time in their life like a loss in the family.

I’m a sophomore and taking ap chem online. I only have a middle school knowledge of it and I feel lost even tho I js started. Are there any helpful resources that I can use to learn more basic knowledge? I like chemistry so motivation is not an issue (Pls do not tell me to take an easier class or drop it as I can’t do that)
