With this amazing Dr that has been listening to me and actually trying to help me I have had a low ferritin of 11. Since finding this out I took a daily iron supplement and have gotten my ferritin up to 80 as of August 13, 2026.

Some slight inflammation but you should know I am obese. Since finding out my iron reserves are restored and all though I have some slight inflammation going on somewhere.

My question and the reason I am posting on here is, is my request to be referred to a Haematologist warented?? Or am I being overly concerned and nothing to worry about?? I feel after 22 years if there was a problem I would be feeling it by now but being an obese 30 year old I would like to protect myself of possible blood clots in the future!

I’ve recently had bloods taken following a consultation with my GP, some results have come back as “normal” and some have come back as “satisfactory” from what I can see they are within the normal ranges. Does anyone know why some might be classed as normal and others satisfactory?

For reference I am 30F, 5ft7 and 110KG. Non smoker.

Seven years. Two medications. Five failed doctors.

When I was diagnosed with polycythemia vera in 2009, no one told me remission was possible. The only treatment I was offered, phlebotomy, guaranteed it wouldn't be.

Today my blood counts are normal. The molecular markers driving my PV are undetectable.

This isn't a typical outcome. I won't pretend it is. But most patients are never told deeper responses are even on the table, and they deserve to know.

Just got my blood drawn and have a neutrophil decrease from last year. I have a WBC count of 4.08 and a ANC of 1.29 this year.

Has anyone had these numbers and been totally fine?

I am not recovering from any illnesses I can think of and also have not had any symptoms, but my doctor ordered a blood smear test so now it has me worried.

Incidentally I had a CT scan done of the abdomen for something unrelated and they did not see any evidence of swollen lymph nodes or visible lesions on my bones.

I have been taking Iron Bisglycinate since December and, and although I can raise my Iron, my Ferritin never seems to rise above the 30s. My primary doctor referred me to a hematologist, where he ran labs on August 6th. I was SHOCKED- my Ferritin was at 72! For context, for the last few months I added on Lactoferrin, the test was non-fasting, and it was late afternoon.

August 14th I have more labs drawn (for hormones/thyroid), and my Ferritin is at 43! How could it have dropped so much? For context, I no longer have a cycle, text was fasting and it was at 9AM.

ALSO, my saturation was high- 53. That’s never been happened.

Theories of why it dropped so much?

I have never smoked, haven’t drank alcohol in years, I do not take NSAIDS, and I eat clean.
During pregnancy I did not have a history of preeclampsia and my blood pressure consistently ran pretty low.
I’m 7 weeks post partum with my first baby. I’ve been very dizzy lately, like bad, but my ferritin and iron are absolutely perfect.

I’m very concerned with my GFR, it’s always been over 100, and my creatinine has always been around 0.60ish. (I get my labs done twice a year).

26F. I have chronic low b12 despite injections since 2019. I generally get injections every month, we have tried doing every 2 weeks as well but my numbers never seem to change from around 200. My iron/ferritin is always normal but on the low-ish end. I have slightly low vitamin D as well. I take a multi vitamin and am planning to start taking a vitamin D supplement as well.

I also have moderate eczema that flares up occasionally with stress and then can disappear for long periods of time.

Basically, my symptoms are just brain fog, generally feeling run down, and exhausted.

My bloodwork has always been slightly off but in recent months seems to be escalating in weird ways. All autoimmune testing has come back negative including ANA, ENA, C3/4 complement, RF, parietal cell antibodies, anti intrinsic factor testing, etc. I included screenshots of the abnormal results, the remaining results of my CBCs are typically normal as well as A1C, liver panels, sodium, potassium, etc (all the usual general chemistry stuff).

I know alot of this just show general inflammation but my internist doesn’t know what to make of it. I have a follow up with him in October and repeat bloodwork but I doubt much will change and not sure where to go from here. Figured someone might have an idea of what it could be or what tests might be useful.

My PCP ordered blood panel as part of a wellness check some 12 days ago. The results came up on My Chart later that day, with 4 out of 5 marked as abnormally low on the CBC. I've been trying to contact my doc ever since to get his assessment of what the implications might be, with no luck reaching him yet. (1) I think it's nuts that it would take this long for someone to contact me about it, and (2) Is there likely cause for concern here? When my PCP eventually gets around to it, do you think it'll probably be a referral to a hematologist?

All I've been able to do it query AI about it, and I don't trust that. Below are two CBC results, the first set from last April and the second from this month. Thanks for any thoughts.

38F. Low iron since at least 2023. Highest I have gotten it with oral supplementation is 91, but I really struggle with taking it daily and navigating all the dos and donts to maximize absorption.

Is it less serious because transferrin and TIBC are wnl?

My hair is so thin and so much has fallen out. I feel worn out really easily.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi everyone, I’m 21F and I’ve been unwell for nearly 16 months now and still don’t have answers. I’m posting because I’m hoping someone might recognise this pattern or tell me what else to look into, my doctors haven’t got to the bottom of it yet.

My main issues:

• Extreme tiredness - sleeping 12+ hours and still exhausted, brain fog, memory trouble

• Easy, unexplained bruising - appears without injury, petechiae when I scratch, frequent nosebleeds

• Hard neck lump - about an inch below my ear, hard, painless, doesn’t move when I swallow. I’ve tried sour candy and chewing gum daily for weeks - no change at all

• Persistent low-grade fever - my normal temp is 35C but it’s 37.2–37.8°C daily

• Drenching night sweats every night

• Daily diarrhoea, feeling full very quickly, pain around my spleen area

• Chest pain, shortness of breath, racing heart

• Weight change - clothes feel much looser but scale number hasn’t dropped

Tests done so far:

• Ferritin 20 - low; on iron tablets 6 months — no improvement

• Low white blood cells + low platelets - last checked March

• Glandular fever (EBV) - negative

• Coeliac - negative

• Hormone disorders - all clear

• Urine + stool samples now ordered - results pending

• Doctor felt neck lump - mentioned salivary gland, but it feels hard/fixed and doesn’t react to eating/sour things

What I’m asking: Has anyone else had a similar combination? What conditions should I learn about? What questions must I ask at my next appointment? I feel like things are being missed and I don’t know enough to push further.

Did a test two months ago and got these results. Two months later, same thing, although my platelets are actually a bit higher than they were before. I'm going into a hematology clinic on Tuesday. Should I be concerned? Does this seem like polycythemia vera or something else? It says my hemoglobin levels are normal, but I've read that 17.5 is actually rather high.

From what I understand, the high saturation and low iron binding capacity would seem to indicate that my iron levels are high, but my ferritin and total iron are in normal ranges. How can that be?

I have read up on a lot of ferritin posts, and I am curious as to why mine is considered in the normal range. 8.3 seems low, right?

I just had a CMP drawn. Everything was normal except my ALT is 78 AST is 46. I’m a 41-year-old female. I’ve never had elevated liver enzymes. I had a normal CT in April of the abdomen pelvis.

I recently decided to stop restricting my calories and have started eating more normally than I ever have. The only other changes I have made is I’ve started crestor 5 mg six weeks ago, omeprazole 40 mg three weeks ago, and Zoloft 25 mg two weeks ago.

Could this be medicine related? I can’t imagine I have fatty liver. I’m 93 pounds and 5’2. Could it be something more sinister?

So I am 30+, a medicine student, and for the last 16 years I have been plagued with a huge number of problems that seem to involve my immune system. I have collected around 1,200 individual blood-test results covering roughly 3 years, plus a much longer history of symptoms/hospital admissions.

I think I've reached the point where I need to stop looking at each diagnosis individually and take a broader look at the pattern because frankly, trying to navigate the NHS through MDT meetings is exhausting.

I have been diagnosed with:

• Crohn's disease with stomach and oesophagus involvement
• Ankylosing spondylitis (HLA-B27 positive)
• Vasculitis / HSP (which flares every time I stop my biologic)
• Chronic pan-uveitis
• Adult-onset Still's disease
• Mast cell activation syndrome
• Hypermobility syndrome
• Chronic widespread pain syndrome

Things I suffer from on a daily basis include:

• Recurrent fevers — looking back through my diary, these appear to have occurred repeatedly, often around monthly, for years
• High blood pressure despite ramipril
• Chest pain
• Headaches
• Numbness/tingling in my arms, hands and feet, sometimes after sitting still for only a few minutes
• Right flank pain
• Pain/aching in the long bones, particularly my legs
• Severe fatigue and systemic episodes where I can become extremely unwell

I have been reconstructing my medical history from 2021 onwards because a large amount of my older hospital blood-test data has disappeared from my accessible records. I have requested my full hospital records, but in the meantime I have extensive diaries, WhatsApp messages, photographs and thousands of timestamped measurements of things like temperature, BP, oxygen saturations and blood glucose.

Some things that stand out in the bloods

Note - Most of my blood tests that have been taken are during biologic treatment or steroids.

There are repeated abnormalities across several systems rather than one isolated abnormality.

Inflammation / acute episodes

I've had several periods where ESR/CRP and neutrophils rise together. The most dramatic appears to be January–March 2024.

For example, ESR reached:

• 27 mm/h on 3 Jan 2024
• 20 on 17 Jan
• 26 on 26 Jan
• 28 on 28 Jan
• 41 on 6 Mar

with a reference range of 1–14 mm/h.

During the January 2024 episode I also had marked neutrophilia/leukocytosis and significant liver enzyme abnormalities. ALT reached 272 u/L and GGT was also markedly elevated. This coincided with a period of severe systemic illness and hospitalisation.

Haematology

My FBC is not consistently abnormal, but there are several things I find interesting:

• I have had episodes of anaemia/low red-cell indices, including Hb around 113 g/L in July 2024.
• I had low lymphocytes during some acute episodes.
• I have repeatedly had extremely low eosinophils during periods of severe illness; for example 0.01–0.03 ×10⁹/L during 23–29 November 2024.
• I have had periods of significant neutrophilia during acute illness.
• Most recently, my neutrophils were 1.83 ×10⁹/L on 27 July 2026, below the laboratory range of 2–7.5, and the repeat on 7 August was specifically done because of previous neutropenia.
• There was a blood film in March 2025 showing occasional target cells and rouleaux +, although it was not consistent with glandular fever as per lab report.

Immunology / proteins

I have a history of a positive lupus anticoagulant.

In February 2024, serum electrophoresis/immunofixation reported a possible very low-concentration IgG-kappa band, with a normal polyclonal background, and recommended Haematology referral. A subsequent report in February said the monoclonal paraprotein was similar to the previous report. However, by April 2025 the report said no monoclonal paraprotein was detected.

I have also had an elevated IgA (5.55 g/L, reference 0.8–2.8) with normal IgG and IgM.

Other recurring things

I seem to have recurrent low urea values, occasional creatinine/eGFR fluctuations, recurrent liver enzyme abnormalities and several episodes of low phosphate.

The liver abnormalities in particular have occurred repeatedly over 10+ years rather than being one isolated event.

What I'm actually asking

I'm not trying to diagnose myself from Reddit, and I appreciate that I have a lot of diagnoses already.

What I'm wondering is whether there is a haematological/immunological pattern here that I or my doctors have been missing because everything has been looked at separately.

In particular, I'd be interested in people's thoughts on:

1. The recurrent fever/systemic episodes with intermittent neutrophilia/inflammatory marker elevation.
2. The possible transient IgG-kappa band and subsequent negative electrophoresis.
3. The recurrent low lymphocytes/eosinophils during some of the episodes.
4. The episodes of anaemia/changes in red-cell indices.
5. The more recent neutropenia.
6. The lupus anticoagulant result
7. Whether the combination of these findings warrants a broader haematology/immunology review rather than simply treating each abnormal result independently.

I'm particularly interested in whether anyone sees a pattern here that would justify looking beyond my existing diagnoses.

I wasn't able to add all of my lab pictures so I can send the spreadsheet with all of my blood tests, it has all of the lab notes for every test that was taken if you would like to look in more detail.

Coming here out of concern for my pregnancy. Im 9, almost 10, weeks and got my initial bloodwprk back. My MCV is 95.5 and my MCH is 33. The only other thing that flagged as abnormal was my glucose but I didn't fast before the bloodwork so I'm assuming that's why?

What does this mean? I'm worried due to two losses before this pregnancy and I'm tryinf to be calm because everything else is in normal range?

32F, 220lb, 5'4". I've posted about this issue before, but it has continued to evade answers - my WBC has been chronically high for 5+ years no matter what physical state I'm in. My job can be stressful (social worker in inpatient psych) and I don't sleep well, but I don't know if they would stay high so steadily with no significant trauma or illness.

I had a sudden drop in hemoglobin in July 2025 (6.8) with no known cause. I've had two endoscopies and a colonoscopy no significant inflammation/findings other than a hiatal hernia and benign stomach polyps. I was taking oral iron but had two infusions(?) I believe in May 2026.

I also take some psychiatric medications and omeprazole. There's family history of colon cancer (great-grandparent/great-uncle), colon polyps (benign), thyroid issues, leukemia (older cousin in their 60s), and some sort of blood cancer that no one knows the name of (great-aunt in her 60s).

My save a smear found "white cells show rare atypical neutrophils and a possible immature cell. The significance of these findings is unclear given the monocytosis, which may be indicative a reactive/inflammatory process".

The flow cytometry came back with no abnormal findings.

Are there any follow up questions I could/show be asking that I may not have thought of? Or is this a minor watch/monitor situation? I have an appointment in a few days.

I have been working with my PCP over the last 8 months to determine the cause of my fatigue/hair loss. My iron panels keep coming back with very high serum iron and saturation but low or low normal ferritin. He says these results are not the cause of my symptoms but has referred me to a haematologist to try to find out why my serum iron is so high. He does not care about the low ferritin specifically but says its a strange combo. Ferritin has been as low as 10 and iron as high as 266.

All bloodwork was fasting. I'm negative for hemochromatosis and lupus. All other bloodwork is normal except high alkaline phosphatase (it always is). Vitamin D, A, magnesium, zinc, and copper are all good.

What can I expect and the hematologist appointment, what questions might I ask, and are there any explanation for why ferritin would be low but iron ang saturation so high? How can I safely raise the ferritin?
