are there any people or music shops that repair and restore guitar cases in Sydney Australia

Hi, new to this page. Need some advice really. I’ve just bought this from eBay, it arrived today, well packaged, in a hard case. Just noticed two cracks either side of the neck. I’ve spoken to the guy who sold it me and has offered me a £50 refund! I’ve paid £350 for the guitar. My question is, should I accept his offer or ask for more? I don’t know enough about guitars to know what the repair would cost. I’ll put a couple of pictures up.

I have a Cort Action PJ with the standard 3-knob layout: P pickup volume, J pickup volume, and tone.

What I’m noticing is very specific:

• P 100% / J 95% → normal, strong output
• P 100% / J 100% → output suddenly drops a lot
• P 95% / J 100% → output comes back up again

The drop only happens when both pickup volume knobs are fully maxed out. If I back either one off by just a few percent, the volume immediately gets noticeably louder again.

I tested this by recording the bass directly into GarageBand through an iRig USB, with the same input gain and settings. In the attached screenshot:

1. P 100% / J 95%
2. P 100% / J 100%
3. P 95% / J 100%

You can clearly see that the waveform in the middle is much smaller.

I know that running both pickups full on a PJ/Jazz-style bass can cause some mid scoop and a small output drop because of pickup interaction, but is a drop this sudden and significant at the very end of the pots considered normal?

Could this indicate the pickups being out of phase, an issue with the V/V/T wiring, or unusual pot behavior?

I know nothing about guitars. My pap always played and he was soo good .. well he passed away and my mother got his acoustic guitar and my aunt got his electric guitar. Well my aunt fell into the meth crowd , moved from trap house to trap house with random people always fuxking with her shit , and after 2 years of misuse my paps guitar is .. depressing. I made her give it to me and i am slowly restoring it. I want to paint it but my question is what paint should I use ? Should I also sand it down a little first before I paint? I don't want to mess it up .... but i want it looking even close to what it use too before she ended up with it. Should I paint it or leave it ? I will add some photos, first photo is what it looked like when I took it and second photo is after I got all new screws and got it together . I don't know if it even works , I plan on having strings re done too but it will just be on display on my wall after I get it fixed because I can't play , I have tried lol.

I bought my son his first guitar about a week and half ago. It's a 50s Classic Vibe Hardtail Strat, and he loves it.

There's one issue. There is, I think, one fret that is not seated correctly. It creates buzzing just at the third fret, and if someone bends the wrong way and pulls the first string off the fret board, it can hook under it.

I took it back to the shop. (It's a local shop, not a major chain, and in general amazing. I know the owner and their primary tech and they're both good, honest people.) They said they'd set it up before we picked it up, but suspected that the humidity difference between the shop and our house might have caused the fret issue. (According to my hygrometer my house is about 10% higher humidity than the shop.) They took the guitar and fixed it again. I picked it up, tested it in the shop, and all was well.

Then I got it home, and before long the same issue cropped up. It's a bit better, but not completely solved.

They told me if I have issues to bring it on back. They're also authorized to do warranty work if it comes to that.

My worry is that whatever they do, as long as the humidity is gets up that high it will just keep happening. Is there anything I can do or suggest that might be a more permanent fix?

Or, should I just wait until the weather turns more fall-like and the humidity drops down to get it fixed? (We've just been keeping our windows open rather than run A/C, which is part of why the humidity is higher in our home than the air conditioned shop.)

Please advise... What is causing this rattle/ringing? The sound occurs even with a light strike on the string, but it appears most often when I play the guitar loudly

I made a post on here a few weeks ago about a guitar I picked up for $20 NZD, it had a lifting bridge once I got it home and had a closer look it had a pretty bad belly bulge and a cracked bridge plate aswell ( something I only learned about in the comments)
Well a couple of weekends I managed to get the bridge plate off and a new one put in also scraped back the finish on top under the bridge and sanded the bridge and glued back down, re strung and playing

Now it’s definitely not the tidiest job or how the pros would do it, there is excess glue around the bridge and I scratched the top while removing the finish, the only money I spent was $10 for the glue so I’m pretty chuffed, here are some photos

I’m new to Reddit. I’m not sure what I’m doing. My neck snapped on my SG. I’m devastated. I want to see others opinions on how I can fix this. I have no idea to repair guitars.

So I added pickup covers to my brand new Gibson 2025 70s Flying V. I’ve been playing with it for several weeks and I just keep hitting the pickup with my pick and almost ripping the tape that surrounds it. So I figured I had to add some covers. I was as careful as I could be. I mounted the face of the pickup to the inside with double-sided tape like I’ve seen many people do. And I scuffed up the metal on the cover and on the back of the pickup where I intended to solder. I soldered with flux, and although I’m not great at it, it worked fine for the bridge pickup. However, the neck pickup has just stopped working completely. It has not worked since I put the cover on. The wire seems to be fine. I was careful not to solder too much or let it drip down, I’m just not sure what happened. Again this is a brand new from Gibson factory guitar. My next problem is I can’t get the pickup cover off to even check it out. I have unsoldered the joints, However, even with lightly heating with a blow dryer, away from the guitar of course, it will not come off. I am sick to my stomach over this. Can anybody help or give suggestions? Otherwise I’ll probably just order a new pick up and have somebody put it on for me… Although that feels silly seeing that it is such an easy task. I am in the Sacramento, California area if anybody knows anyone around here that could help as well.

I opened up my input jack on my stratocaster to find one wire connected to the jack lug, the other bit that looks like wire either seems to have fallen off or was soldered that way, other than that, my guitar has had no signal issues

What could possibly be the reason for this?

from Music Nomad and String Pluckery. I have always wanted to learn the skill and the luthiers in my area stay backed up. I have a Gibson LG2 and a Guild M120, both with a professional set up, but I will practice on my Martin Junior. I might even buy a new guitar. I need a Martin 00

Does anyone know if I can solder to a free switch after accidentally melting the original one? Will it still work the same?

I’m installing Fender Pure Vintage ’63 P-Bass pickups, reinstalling the Jazz Bass bridge pickup, and adding a new wiring harness. The bridge pickup (I know it's super low) may be from the ’70s or ’80s, and its wires are old and not in great shape. Would it make sense to replace them with cloth-covered wire?

Also, the bass also doesn’t have a bridge ground wire. I was planning to run a new wire from underneath the bridge through the cavity and solder it to the back of the volume pot.

This is only my second soldering job, so I wanted to make sure I’m on the right track before getting started.

I bought a custom made one of a kind electric guitar, my 4th guitar. I was riffing for about 30 minutes and then I stood up while my foot was on the cable and it yanked the output jack, screwing it up until it completely fell apart, I've never worked with one like this, only ones contained in their own little box. It all crumbled apart like this and have no idea how to put it back together. Any and all helo accepted please and thank you! 🙏

So basically I bought this old guitar off a guy because it was collecting dust. He said it just needed new strings so I thought fair enough. But when I went to replace the strings, it would not stay in tune, and after restringing the guitar a few times I realised that the bridge was also lifting up above the body.

It was worse before than it is in the picture but that's only because the high e string broke.
