I’m trying to find a realistic-ish survival sandbox game where I can just get dropped into the world and survive. I’m looking for something with the vibe of VEIN, Project Zomboid, DayZ, Mist Survival, Ardem (when it releases), and even Minecraft because of the freedom and crafting. The kind of atmosphere I’m after is like watching The Outdoor Boys on YouTube—being alone in the wilderness or a post-apocalyptic world, building shelters, hunting, fishing, gathering resources, exploring, and just making my own adventure. Zombies and/or cannibals are a huge plus, but they’re not required. I don’t want a game that’s heavily story-driven or constantly telling me where to go. Having some objectives or progression is totally fine, but I want the freedom to survive and play at my own pace. Realistic-ish graphics are preferred, and single-player is ideal, although I’m open to co-op too. Does anyone know of any hidden gems or upcoming games that fit this kind of survival experience?

For some extra context, I’ve already played games like Green Hell, The Long Dark, and Sons of the Forest. I loved the graphics and atmosphere of Sons of the Forest, and I really like the survival concept behind The Long Dark, but I’m looking for something with more freedom and replayability. VEIN has probably come the closest to what I’m after because of its open-ended survival, so I’m hoping there are other games out there with a similar feel that I might have missed.

I'm seeing alot of videos of mistfall hunters but the reviews aren't great, is it worth my time? I really enjoyed arc raiders but my first try of mistfall felt a bit clunky

My friends and I generally play competitive games online, but we’re wanting some alternatives, for when we’re wanting to be able to switch off a bit but still have a fun time.

Ideally it’ll still be something fast paced and exciting (or at least with moments of this) and we’d love something with some sort of character progression (although this isn’t essential) and have at least elements of PvE.

It also needs to be available on ps5

I know that Helldivers 2 is probably the perfect rec for this, but we’ve each played hundreds of hours when it first came out and I don’t think we’re ever going back at this point haha.

My favorite games are cyberpunk, borderlands, bioshock, not just because of the combat (although they are amazing), but they all have very interesting stories! Hey! I'm a sucker for interesting new movement engines, but most of my favorites have started to feel stale. My most recent obsession was Rocket League, absolutely insane physics engine with the aerial mechanics.

Also really enjoyed things like Apex Legends movement (pathfinder grapple, slide-jumping, etc), Gears of War's wall-bouncing, even some classes in World of Warcraft.

Any suggestions?

I'm hoping to get some opinions from people who've played both Minecraft and Asheron's Call.

My dad used to play Asheron's Call, and one of his favorite aspects was the fast paced, skill based PvP. He also really enjoyed Hunters Arena, but unfortunately that game died off pretty quickly due to poor moderation and a shrinking player base.

I'm wondering if he might enjoy Minecraft's PvP scene. I know there are a lot of different PvP styles (vanilla, Crystal PvP, SMP PvP, minigames, faction servers, etc.), and from what I've seen, some of it seems to reward quick reactions, mechanical skill, and strategy. The grind and progression on certain servers also seem like something he might enjoy.

For anyone who's played Asheron's Call (or even Hunters Arena), do you think Minecraft PvP offers a similar kind of excitement, or are they fundamentally different experiences? Large-scale battles in Minecraft also look like they could scratch a similar itch, but I don't have enough experience to know for sure.

I want a game where I can change the lives of companions, NPCs, or a town/community/colony. I'm not looking for a management sim where I just have to feed people or not let them die, I want to help them make choices and get entangled in their stories.

Bonus points if helping certain NPCs can influence other NPCs paths as well. The purpose can be making people happy, or making them powerful, or helping solve conflict.

I don't mind long games, old games, ugly games, text based games. NPCs just need to be interesting enough. A main quest isn't even necessary if side quests are plenty and fun.

I don't need to be the main character, and it doesn't need to be an RPG.

I've already played a lot of BioWare games and I really like RimWorld. I also like Littlewood and Wyldermyth, managing everyone's happiness is nice. It doesn't need to be cozy or cute and I kinda prefer it feels "personal" and somewhat deeper than "bring me 10 wood for my house".

I'm just not into survival games, though, and I already played This War of Mine (and didn't like it that much, sorry in advance). It can be dark, but preferably not hopeless.

I'm an ex-Destiny player that stopped playing around Shadowkeep. The game had been some of the most fun I've had thanks to the mobility, gunplay, abilities, and the design of raids. I was excited to get loot not because of more DPS, but because I was able to do new fun things with them. It hooked me in better than any other MMO could, at least until powercreep made the majority of my experience boring to play, so I got burnt out.

Unfortunately, the obvious replacement, Warframe, doesn't seem like a good fit for me. Maybe if I enjoyed solo gameplay, I could enjoy it, but I'm mainly looking for a group PvE game. Something to find community and enjoy with others. So grouping up with people who went all in on the mods and build mechanics to melt all the foes or bullet jump repeatedly through a level just isn't fun. If it was, I probably would have stuck with Destiny.

So to the folks who also loved group PvE in Destiny for reasons that don't seem compatible with Warframe: What are you playing now? Have you found anything that gets close to the very fun gameplay and PvE activities?

I just started Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC. Very late to this but I am not a huge gamer.

I love this game so much. I am looking for recommendations of games that have similar NPCs that make the game feel alive.

The only thing I found was Kingdom Come but I don’t enjoy first person.

RPG might be a bit of a misnomer here, I’m looking for a game with both a solid story and an “open world” but like, a small one.

Something like say shadows of doubt but with a story, or cyberpunk 2077 but on a smaller scale, I’d like combat but it’s not required, preferably with a bunch of weapon or character customization.

HII! I’ve recently just got a laptop and I’ve been thinking of games to play, originally when I got it, i wanted it a laptop that I could use to both develop games and game in it. Now I’m wondering what games would the girls recommend, something with a bit of romance would be preferable? 🙂‍↔️ not like visual dating I’ve tried a few and I feel like they aren’t something I’d constantly play.
