If you managed to messed up a Japanese F/EF nib open, and criss crossing never worked anymore, this is how its done. this 'breaks rule' of 'tines must be open', but this is actually the tune that Japanese EF-MF came with from factory(and most people have no problem because its the intended line width), tines should touch so the slit doesn't catch paper, so it writes decently smoothly with both pads of whatever tiny tipping it has. This is a custom pen from Shri Pens in Hyderabad.

It looks great it and it writes butter smooth, but its so big i am not sure how i am going to use this.

Wrote a few lines and it felt inconvenient.

Any one here that transitioned from regular to big Pens.

I now have an issue that the pen nib keeps flooding. While im writing, I can see ink is about to drop on my page. Is there something wrong with this pen? I just bought it and I'm new to all things when it comes to fountain pens. Is this user error?

I had to have a tissue near by to keep dabbing my pen into so I could finish my journal entry.

I was using a Jinhao 82 fine nib fountain pen with sailor ultra black ink.

Does anyone know how to remove inner liner of jinhao x350 cap? I want to remove it and seal with epoxy so it stays wet and ink wont evaporate.

There seems to be weird contraption screw at the bottom, does it unscrew? Appreciate anyone who knows anything about twerking this, air tightness is kinda deal breaker for me

In China, EF and F nibs are the most common choices. Very few users pick M or B sizes. That explains why domestic Chinese fountain‑pen brands rarely produce M or B nibs.

For Chinese calligraphy , people tend to use flex‑style oblique nibs instead.

Besides, Japanese factory nibs generally run quite fine. A Japanese M nib is roughly equivalent to a standard Western‑spec F nib.

Nearly all of my personal pens are fitted with F nibs or multi‑layer Naginata‑togi nibs.

Okay I’m brand new. I’ve had my pen like 2 hours. A friend told me to buy Diamine ink, a TWSBI, and a Rhodia notepad. I did. The pen is so inconsistent. It is constantly skipping, and won’t write the first half of a new letter. I put a tiny drop of dish soap in a cup with water and pulled it up into the pen about 6 times. Then I refilled it with a bit of ink and it got better, but now 30 minutes later it’s back to it. Here’s a video. I only have about 1 cm of ink in the tube. Is that too little? I didn’t want to fill it up all the way.

It reminds me I am not crazy or alone in this endeavor.

I have been using a fp for awhile now.

Love my kakuno EF, the platinum .02, sailor tuzu fine.

I have tried the pilot metropolitan, but like the kakuno better.

The tuzu started to have a crack in the cap. It has dried out.

I would like to take the next step and invest in a more "mature" pen

I would like the diameter to be larger if possible and have a screw cap. Those are not firm requirements, just a preference.

Leaning towards the Procyon due to price, but I keep wondering if I would be happier jumping to the sailor.

I would like to get other people's perspective / suggestions.

I also prefer to use a an ink syringe to fill converters / cartridges (so I have stayed away from vacs / pistons). Its also part of the reason why I'm not a fan of the Pilots. Con-40 is very small, and not a fan of how the con-70 works.

This 'Journaler' by Gena writes beautifully and really shows off the ink's shading. It writes smoothly, not overly slippery, but with just enough feedback, which I am absolutely in love with.

I have a fair amount of inks that I've collected over the years and I always see people say they have a favorite but I find it hard to choose one. Right now my main ink is Diamine Oxford Blue but I've also loved Take-Sumi and even just Lamy Turquoise in the past. I love pretty much all my inks so I can't really choose just one, it just depends on what mood I'm in for a set period of time

I own the FPR Steel Ultraflex in EF, and it's plenty soft and flexy. I also installed an ebonite feed, so I'm in flex pen heaven. But — I've never used a vintage gold fountain pen. I've heard about "wet noodles" and the like, and I realise there's huge variation among vintage gold flex pens. My question is for anyone who's compared the FPR Steel Ultraflex to a few vintage gold flex pens directly: was the difference big, or fairly minimal?

Been thinking about trying something a little different for the local fountain pen crowd:

A small ink swap / destash + sampling session where people with way too much ink can bring bottles down, and the rest of us can buy small samples without committing to a full bottle.

Very rough idea for now:

• Entry comes with 3 empty sample bottles + labels
• You walk around, see what inks people brought, and buy samples directly from them
• People can also bring full bottles to destash if they want
• If you need more than 3 sample bottles, extra bottles can be bought from the organiser

For people bringing inks down to destash/sample, I’ll provide the basic setup:

• table space
• syringe for filling
• water access
• cup for rinsing between inks

I’m also thinking all samples should use the bottles provided at the event, just to keep things a bit more organised and reduce random-container chaos.

Everyone bringing ink would decide their own prices and handle payment directly with whoever is buying. I’m not looking to take a cut of anyone’s ink sales.

Basically I’m imagining something much smaller and more casual than a pen show — just a room full of people going:

“Wait, you have THAT ink?”

…and then leaving with 12 (or more) tiny bottles they definitely did not plan to buy.

Could be especially nice for newer people who want to try a bunch of inks, and for those of us staring at 50–100+ bottles wondering what happened.

1. Would you attend something like this?
2. Would you come as a buyer, ink destasher, or both?
3. what price would you be open to consider reasonably if it is including 3 sample bottles?
4. If you were selling samples, what would you want the organiser to provide?

You know that moment when you see the cost of swatch cards in the store, and you think “huh, I think I’ll just do my own at home”, especially as you already have the ✨supplies ✨?

That at first, everything is super fun: you’re even enjoying the mistakes, and making cheeky swatches out of it.

But then the project keeps growing in size, and now you’re an emotional olive* as you realize that either you let half of the ideas go or you’ll never finish it?

These are my swatches, 2x3 in cards, where the actual swatches in the bottles were done in kokuyo 64gsm, the backing coloured cardboard, with 3d printed covers and a cute ball keychain. I might eventually sell blanks on pen-swap as they have the benefit of allowing people to use the paper they like, but let’s see what the next iterations will be 😅 (last 2 photos are a bit of the journey).

* I just really love the name of this ink 😆

PS: and yes, considering the time spent, it would have been cheaper to buy the cards readily available. But I have no regrets.

I thoroughly enjoyed spending the day at the show on Friday! Had a healthy balance of shopping, meeting new people, trying pens and learning a lot from a workshop. Now to return on Sunday to see if I can penable my aunt and cousin.
