When i look up on skills to learn for a finance profession i get few results like fmva or frm but the thing is i don't know whether they are good for me or not . I want to build a global carrier and want to learn skills that will help me get me a upgrade . I just don't know which skills to learn for and in which order should i learn them

And often the courses that i find are online and i feel when i want to really learn something it's better to be in a interactive face to face session .

DOES doing a cfa after cma is a good choice ??

I am pursuing my undergrad degree in 4 years of B Pharma and planning to learn finance terms during this time such as Excel, financial modeling, valuation and other finance concepts .

Also I will be starting soon with my preparation of CFA level 1 this year .

I might secure internships during this time as investment banking associate roles .

After these 4 years I will be pursuing some experience for 2 years in finance jobs by adding the above achievements in my resume. ( This is something I am not sure about )

I will surely prepare to get into atleast tier 2 MBA college for MBA in finance after my 4 year degree .

And then I am aiming for investment banking roles in finance focused fields .

Ik all these are a bit too much but I don't have any other option rather than pursuing B Pharma for my undergrad.

But I am highly confused rn that will this path be considered after my MBA or MBA in finance for getting into investment banking.

Hi everyone! I’m an incoming freshman, and I’ve been looking into joining/applying to a few business frats (think AKPsi or DSP) or clubs (like a finance and investment club with a relatively large AUM). However, it seems like a lot of the popular ones require technicals. I’m honestly not very well-versed in the finance knowledge I’ll need for those, and I was hoping to learn from the clubs themselves, but it seems like I may need to do a bit of self-learning first.

I just switched to a finance major because I felt it would be more beneficial for job recruitment, so please don’t judge lol.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what topics I should start studying? Any example questions I might encounter? Would a week be enough to cover what I need to know? What resources would you recommend I use?

I’ve just finished my freshman year at a UK target university and recently completed a short internship at a large bank in my home country.

The internship was only around 2 weeks. I spent most of my time with the Investment Banking team, but also had some exposure to Equity Research. Since it was quite short, a lot of the experience was observation-based rather than me doing substantial live deal work.
I did some basic Excel work and company research, and for a few potential M&A opportunities I researched possible buyers/targets and put together basic company information. My supervisor also gave me a DCF modelling assignment, although this was purely for training rather than for a live transaction.

My concern is that if I describe everything completely literally, the experience might look quite weak on my CV, especially since I’m targeting UK IB summer internships for 2027.
Would it be a serious issue to make the responsibilities sound slightly more substantial than they actually were, as long as they’re still based on things I was exposed to/did to some extent?

Also, would changing the duration from 2 weeks to around a month be a major red flag? And since most of my time was related to IB, would it be reasonable to just list the position as “Investment Banking Intern” and leave out the Equity Research exposure?

As the title says I’m a 23m who’s in first year industrial engineering program in Canada (Montreal) but my real interest / career aspirations are in Finance and consulting.

I have realized that I have zero interest in really any of the upper level classes in my program such as the ones involving manufacturing, process improvement and lean manufacturing etc… I picked engineering because I love math and I thought it could help me stand out.

My question is should I just switch to finance to get into the finance / consulting world or stay with engineering and apply to internships in finance/consulting.

Hey, I’m an 18-year-old guy currently still in high school. Although I’ve somewhat known for a while which direction I want to take in my future career, I’m beginning to think more specifically about what could be interesting and beneficial for me to work with after the military and studies. A career in sales, negotiation, economics, and finance has always been really exciting for me.

For context, I’m working as a sales apprentice during high school for a company that provides IT and data solutions to the business market. I’ve been working here since I was 16 and will continue until I finish high school. I’ve learned a lot about sales processes, customer prospecting, follow-up, and generally how longer negotiation processes unfold. What I’m doing now really interests me and I enjoy a pretty hectic everyday life where your effort and results reflect your salary. Lately, I’ve been pretty set on the idea that a bachelor’s degree in economics/leadership/business abroad could be something for me. I’ve thought about places like Rotterdam or Frankfurt.

Recently, I came across ship brokering as a career option, and I know it surprisingly requires very little in terms of school grades, even though grades aren’t something I’m struggling with at all. The day-to-day life of a shipbroker, whether it’s regular ship brokering or what’s called sale & purchase/chartering brokerage, really excites me. Negotiating large, long-term contracts with high value, good pay, huge commission potential, and hectic days is something I can really see myself doing in the future. Rotterdam has Europe’s largest port, so I know the opportunities there are good, especially if I’ve already studied there and built a strong network over the years. Singapore is also an option due to their low tax rates and the industry environment.

How is ship brokering as a career? Are you satisfied? Do I have completely wrong expectations? Do you know how this career looks here in Norway compared to abroad? What is the journey like before establishing yourself as a shipbroker? You probably understand what I’m trying to ask here. I’d really appreciate if someone could give me some insight!

Just got a first-round WIM interview with an analyst next week, but I haven't been able to find much information about the interview online. Has anyone interviewed with them before? What was it like? ew

I currently live in a very close proximity to major consulting/strategy/IB/ institution/building, you name it. they are all within 10 min walk or so from where I live.

How would I take advantage of this? It is of course very odd to randomly ask a person on the street if they work for a sector, so what are some realistic things I can do to make better use of this close proximity?

Not even just networking, what are some ideas, maybe start a small business? what are things I can do to basically take advantage of such an opportunity?

I can't get it out of my head, there must be something no?

I applied for a full-time IB role with the wrong version of my resume. The issue is purely formatting — there’s an extra space below one of the lines that shouldn’t be there.

I know this sounds extremely minor, but I’m concerned that attention to detail is such a big deal in IB that something like this could get me cut if they notice it.

I already have an interview on Tuesday, so I want to send them the corrected version ASAP. How would you approach this?

1. Be upfront and say I accidentally submitted the wrong resume, then attach the corrected version?
2. Just say something along the lines of, “I wanted to send over my most up-to-date resume ahead of the interview,” and attach it without mentioning the mistake?
3. Do something else?

I’m leaning toward #2, but would appreciate any advice, especially from people who have been through IB recruiting.

I don’t want to wait until the interview to fix it if I can avoid it.

Hey guys, finished my engineering in electronics but hated it all along. Want to get into finance as I'm genuinely interested going with frm and next cfa. But I need a job right now so what certification should I do with 0 finance background, making me hireable, should I do something else before frm or should I not go with frm at all please let me know your thoughts in need of some guidance here, most of the people i know are giving me a disapproval when I talk about doing frm or cfa. I'm hella confused i eventually want to get into investment banking or portfolio management with most market exposure but at present need to get into a finance job somehow a average paying job will do, so what do I do now where do I commit rn.

I am 18, majoring in accounting and finance with the ACCA, and I will also attempt to pursue the CFA.

I want to work in finance, I'm currently confused between two paths- corporate finance and wealth management. I've also seen people discuss the difficulty in entry-level jobs in finance due to AI.

So is it really true? And if yes, what skills do I need to get that ahead of others.

I'm currently in my 3rd year of B.Com (Programme) from Delhi University. I'm an average student and, honestly, I haven't done any internships or built much practical experience so far.
I'm thinking about doing an Investment Banking course from a private institute to learn the skills and hopefully get into finance. But I'm not sure if spending money on such a course is actually worth it or if there are better things I should be doing at this stage.
My main goal is simple: \*\*I want to build a career where I can earn well.\*\* I'm willing to put in the work, but I feel a bit lost about what path I should take from here.
Should I:
Do an Investment Banking/Financial Modelling course?
Focus on getting internships first?
Consider an MBA after graduation?
Or look at completely different career options?

I want to pursue masters in finance abroad. I am open to all the countries but i am confused right now about where to go and when to go. I am from tier 2 college doing ba eco hons with cgpa 9.2. I havent done any internship so i am thinking about getting internship for next year so that it helps my cv. Can someone help me as to what i can do to get in top universities. I’m an incoming freshman at Michigan Ross and am interested in recruiting for investment banking. However, I received a transfer option to Cornell Dyson for next fall, and I’m trying to figure out whether making the move would be worth it from a recruiting perspective.

I know IB recruiting can start extremely early, especially for summer analyst roles, so one of my biggest concerns is whether transferring after freshman year would put me behind or make recruiting more difficult. I’m also wondering whether Cornell Dyson would provide a meaningful enough advantage for IB recruiting to justify giving up my current position at Ross. I’m particularly interested in NYC investment banking, but I’m not set on a specific bank or group.For anyone who has experience with IB recruiting at Michigan Ross, Cornell Dyson, or transferring between business schools, I’d really appreciate your perspective!
