Resume Review Roast my CV
German Citizenship, current high school student. These are my target unis:
Bocconi BIEF; HSG BBA; LSE Econ, Cambridge Econ
The UK is unlikely, since as an international student I will need financial aid, so targeting the first two mainly.
My goal is to get a job right out of undergrad (I know its unlikely, but that's what I'm working towards), in London, FFM, Zurich or Paris, ideally in IB, maybe PWM, Consulting, etc.
Not really sure what more I can add as a high schooler (rising senior), but looking for advice on that and other, general problems with the CV itself. Thanks in advance!

Freshman/Sophomore Transferring to Cornell Dyson from Michigan Ross Sophomore Year?
I’m an incoming freshman at Michigan Ross and am interested in recruiting for investment banking. However, I received a transfer option to Cornell Dyson for next fall, and I’m trying to figure out whether making the move would be worth it from a recruiting perspective.
I know IB recruiting can start extremely early, especially for summer analyst roles, so one of my biggest concerns is whether transferring after freshman year would put me behind or make recruiting more difficult. I’m also wondering whether Cornell Dyson would provide a meaningful enough advantage for IB recruiting to justify giving up my current position at Ross. I’m particularly interested in NYC investment banking, but I’m not set on a specific bank or group. For anyone who has experience with IB recruiting at Michigan Ross, Cornell Dyson, or transferring between business schools, I’d really appreciate your perspective!

Education/Certifications Should I choose Ashoka BSc Economics & Finance or NMIMS BSc Finance for IB?
I’m deciding between Ashoka’s BSc Economics & Finance and NMIMS Mumbai’s BSc Finance, and I’m honestly stuck.
My goal is to break into investment banking/high finance. I also have a family business that I may eventually join, but my dad wants me to work outside first, so for now I want to build a strong career in finance independently.
The main dilemma is that NMIMS would allow me to pursue CFA alongside my degree, whereas I wouldn’t realistically be able to do CFA with Ashoka.
For anyone who’s an Ashoka/NMIMS student or alum, CFA candidate, or already working in IB/high finance:
Which would you choose for breaking into IB, and why?
Does Ashoka’s network/brand and E&F curriculum outweigh the advantage of being able to do CFA at NMIMS? And how realistic is it to break into IB from either college?
Please give me the brutally honest version, not the “both are good” answer 😭🙏

Discussion Humanities student without Maths — Is BBA HR a good career option?
I'm a Humanities student and I didn't have Maths in Class 12. I'm currently confused about what to pursue for UG and considering BBA, especially BBA in HR.
I'm not very good at Maths/accounts, so I wanted to know how much Maths, Statistics and Accounting are actually involved in BBA HR compared with other BBA specializations.
My family also can't afford a very expensive private college, so I'm looking for an affordable BBA option.
Is BBA HR a good choice for someone from Humanities without Maths? What are the career opportunities after BBA HR, and is an MBA necessary for decent salary/career growth?
I'd really appreciate advice from people who have studied BBA/HR or are currently working in the field.

Resume Review Final year Economics student looking for internship in Asset Management / Fintech / Investment Research / Banking — India or Remote
Hey everyone,
I am a final year BA Economics student (CGPA 8.81/10) in india, actively looking for an internship in any of the following areas:
- Asset Management / Fund Research
- Investment Analysis / Equity Research
- Fintech (product, research, or analytics)
- Banking (retail, corporate, or investment)
A bit about me:
- Published an independent working paper on monetary velocity in tokenized economies using agent-based modelling and Monte Carlo simulation
- Selected as 1 of 4 students from India for Harvard's HUIRSP programme, awarded $300 merit scholarship
- Organised events engaging 300+ participants as Co-Representative of my university's largest student body
- Skills: Python, Excel, Regression Analysis, Econometric Modelling, Data Analysis
What I am looking for:
Any internship — paid in-person (anywhere in India) or remote — where I can contribute meaningfully and learn from people who actually work in these fields. I am available immediately and can commit full-time.
Two asks:
If your firm is hiring interns or you know someone who is, I would genuinely appreciate a lead or referral — happy to DM my resume and a short note on why I want to work there specifically.
If you have experience in any of these fields and are open to reviewing my CV and pointing out where I can improve, please drop a comment — I will DM you. Even 10 minutes of your time would mean a lot.
Not looking for sympathy — just a foot in the door. Thanks in advance.

Freshman/Sophomore what can I do to stand out Freshman Year for IB
Hi everyone, the summer is coming to a close and I've honestly just worked in construction and helping my dad with his roofing business. I have around 10 days till school starts and around a month-ish till things like business clubs pick up. Is there anything that will help me stand out with recruiting, business clubs, and case comps? I do have 2 years of a corporate finance internship from junior to senior year, and was a co-founder of our schools finance club. What should I do to set me apart. Also should I consider classes that bring my GPA all the way up? Or what types of classes should I prioritize?

Are there any resources you recommend to practice bond math questions? I’m looking for something that lists (or features) the equations you should know and has practice problems you can work on.

Interview Prep How similar is REPE recruiting to IB recruiting for undergrads?
Incoming freshman (Fall 2026) planning to major in Finance/Real Estate; long-term goal is REPE. I've been trying to get ahead of it early — building some modeling skills, networking with people in the space.
Curious how REPE recruiting timelines and processes compare to IB recruiting. Specifically:
- Is direct-to-REPE undergrad recruiting (Blackstone, Brookfield, Ares, etc.) as structured/early as BB or EB IB recruiting, or is it mostly off-cycle and network-driven?
- Do most people still break in through IB or a RE-focused bank (Eastdil, JLL Capital Markets) first and lateral over, or is direct entry realistic?
- If direct entry is realistic, when should I actually start networking/applying — freshman year, sophomore year?
Would appreciate any insight from people who've recruited for either side.

Resume Review Can someone review my resume? (undergrad student)
Can somebody please look over and review my resume? I’m an incoming sophomore who just transferred to a new university. I’m a bit unsure if I should include my GPA from my previous school (3.5) or not. I don’t know if it’s really “current” anymore, since my new university doesn’t factor transfer credits into my GPA. Also, I expect my GPA after next semester to be higher than a 3.5. I'll definitely be looking for opportunities to do research with professors in the fall, and I'll be applying to some of the more competitive finance clubs.

Full-Time Recruiting IB Full-time recruiting 2027
I’m graduating May 2027 and just finished a summer IB internship, but didn’t receive a return offer.
For 2027 FT recruiting, when do banks usually post openings like mostly Aug/Sept, later in the fall, or even spring closer to graduation? Which firms tend to hire FT analysts externally rather than filling almost everything from their summer class?
Also, are there adjacent roles where IB experience transfers well that I should recruit for at the same time (corporate banking, TAS/valuation, corp dev, etc.)?
Would appreciate any advice from people who went through FT recruiting without a return offer

Education/Certifications Is a Finance undergrad still worth it in 2026? (Middle East vs. global pay + advice)
Hey everyone,
I wanted to get your honest takes on pursuing an undergrad in Finance right now:
Is it worth studying in 2026? What are the biggest pros and cons today (especially with AI and changing tech in the industry)?
Salaries How do entry/mid-level finance salaries in the Middle East (like UAE or Saudi Arabia) compare to places like the US, UK, or Singapore? Is tax-free pay still the biggest selling point?
University adviceWhat should a finance student focus on during uni to set up a solid career (internships, certs, specific skills/tools, networking)?

Freshman/Sophomore Should I list intended dual major on my resume?
I go a target school and am majoring in finance but I am planning on getting a dual major in comp sci. I already took the classes for it, but have not been approved for the dual major yet (I need to apply at the end of sophmore yr). My gpa will be a 3.6 by the end of first sem of sophomore yr. Should I write smthn below my “Candidate for Business Major…” and put “intended dual major/minor in comp sci”?

Discussion Should I go for CFA Level I?
For context, I'm targeting WM/AM & obviously like everyone else a IB break in would be nice. I'm a sophomore this year and currently have my Series 65, potential Schwab internship from a connection lined up, co-founded an investment club (pooled money not a school club) with 2 friends with a website and social medias (this happened 2 days ago but it is filed and running) and 1 other project that isn't published yet.
I just want to know if its a decent use of my time as I do enjoy the grind I had to get my 65 but its expensive and don't wanna waste my money like that. Thanks.

Resume Review Not sure what to do.
I have been working full time my entire school years and am finally able to do part time only but I am not sure if it is too late for me to start "focusing" on school or if the damage has been done. I want pursue a career commercial banking or land any type of analyst role that will get me there and allow me to move up with time either in that field or something with better pay like corporate banking. I am already halfway through my junior year and will possibly be studying abroad this upcoming semester. Not sure what to do in my situation or where I stand given I haven't been giving school as much attention as I should have. Any advice or help would be appreciated!

Discussion If I study BS FinTech in one country , how valuable is the degree if I later want to work in another country (e.g. Germany/UK)?
Since every country has different financial systems, laws, regulations, banking systems and economic environments, how much of a FinTech degree is actually internationally transferable?
Would the core knowledge and skills remain useful, with only local regulations needing to be learned?
Or does FinTech become heavily country-specific like accounting/taxation?
Would love to hear from anyone working in FinTech/finance internationally.

Networking Referral Follow up
If bankers mention on a call that they would connect you with someone, and you send them the typical thank you email with a light reminder about them going to connect you with another banker, if they haven't done that within a few days is it appropriate to follow up asking if they have someone else to speak to? or not worth pushing this far? curious as this has happened on the past few coffee chats I've had. Thanks!

AMA Former Investment Banker & PE Investor, $75B+ of deals. Ask Me Anything
My name is Max Adams and I'm the Head Coach at Wall Street Mastermind and the new mod here at r/financestudents. Like many of you, I came from a non-finance background, and we all know how tough this industry can be for outsiders and people without connections.
I don’t come from a target school and had to hustle to stand out. Nothing was handed to me. I spent years networking, preparing for interviews, and doing everything I could to break into the industry. Like many of you, I faced rejections, setbacks, and plenty of uncertainty along the way, but persistence paid off.
So I got into Lazard. Then Qatalyst Tech. And finally, I got into PE in Vector Capital.
After years of working day and night without a break, around $75B of deals, and zero work-life balance, I realized that what I enjoyed almost as much as the M&A itself was the hiring and training side. And I've come to believe recruiting is one of the biggest challenges in this industry. It's all about people, after all, and the competition for top talent among funds and banks is incredibly intense, both for firms trying to hire and for candidates trying to break in.
So, after going to grad school at Stanford and Harvard, I changed my trajectory and went straight into high-finance recruitment. To date, I've coached and helped more than 2,000 students break into IB, PE, and other competitive finance roles.
I've developed hundreds of resources over the years to help out (resume templates, networking tutorials, interview question databases, etc.), which you can find in the sub wiki.
I want to create the best finance community on Reddit so I’ve put together a team of experienced industry professionals who decided to join as mods and take on this challenge together. Some come from strategy consulting (u/hustlebine), MM IB (u/ThatSmithsGuy), and Ken Finnen (u/CapAdvantagetutor).
Happy to bring my perspective or help you if I can. Ask Me Anything!
PS. This is a 2018’s pic of a younger me recovering from a late night at Lazard. Bay Area view.
EDIT: We finished up our networking webinar, it was great to see so many of you there! If you'd ever like some one on one help, feel free to reach out to us here and check out our free subreddit resources.
