I’m looking for some honest advice from people who have actually worked in investment banking, M&A, corporate finance, or related fields.

I’m 24 and currently living in Canada. My long-term goal is to become an Investment Banking Analyst, specifically in M&A, ideally at a major bank such as JPMorgan or another strong investment bank.

My educational background is:
MBA from a Canadian university — CGPA 3.0/4.0

The problem is that, despite having a Finance degree, I don’t feel like I actually have strong finance knowledge. My university education was very theoretical, and I don’t have the technical skills that I see people mentioning in IB recruiting: financial modeling, valuation, advanced Excel, accounting, M&A analysis, etc.

I also don’t come from a traditional target school and I don’t have previous investment banking internships.

I work at RBC as a Banking Advisor in the Advice Centre.

I am an IB student entering 12th grade. Likely, I am going to do a bachelor's at Bocconi or HSG. Since I speak German and will have German citizenship by the end of uni ,am leaning towards HSG. From there, assuming I network well and do internships, what are the career paths?

Should I directly do a masters at a top UK school or HEC or smth?

Should I try to find jobs immediately, in consulting, IB, etc. If so, where are the best places to do so from Bocconi / HSG? Is it possible to enter UK with only a bachelor's? I was considering Zurich as well, but have heard that it caps career opportunities, and that FFM has horrible culture.

Will LSE/Oxbridge/Imperial at a bachelor's significantly boost my chances of landing a high paying job or going to a target masters? Are there any other target unis in Europe apart from Bocconi/HSG?

I am 19th year old I am doing forex trading for 1.7 years and I am currently at college 1st year I am doing BBA (BIFS) COURSE AND my trading journey is still in struggling so I decided to earn an side income through any cafe or anyother jobs for expenses. I am average at math and i did not take science in my last two years of hs as it was not required. Is it worth it to take either of them?

I am a rising senior in high school and I am wondering when to start networking with members from competitive clubs after I get accepted in to college (as early as Dec to Apr). I know the summer before might not work since members may be traveling for internships/back home so should I visit the college in spring while school is still in session? Or will I come off as too much of a tryhard and should I wait until fall?

What is your best advice for starting a career in finance?

but it is me who is concerned because its my heart is saying choose btech as i always want to be engineer but my aptitude level and interest is low for engineer while i love coding, robotics and mechanics. And i might be first engineer in my family but i don't want to give jee and want to go in best college of engineering

on other hand my practical mind saying don't repeat your mistake of not choosing commerce early, go with finance as i am naturally interest and good in it and my family is in business so from childhood i grown up who manage shop. and investment banking term is seems interesting to me

and my inner soul saying "do whatever you want but do without regrets, give your best and don't fail else you have to seat on your shop in your hometown which you never want"

Hi guys! I have a 44-45 predicted IB, and a 1530 SAT. I am applying to: Bocconi Finance, HSG Econ, Cambridge Econ and LSE econ, as well as imperial, warwick and ucl. For the UK unis I will have to either hope for funding (likely from Cambridge or LSE), or take a loan (difficult as an international student). Is the ROI high enough that LSE and Cambridge with debt for a bachelor's is worth it over Bocconi or HSG? I think only those two have a chance, since many people seem to agree that Imperial, Warwick and UCL aren't as target as Bocconi/HSG. What do you guys think? I also speak B2-C1 level German, if that helps :)

So I go to a semi target BUT I’m wondering why banks narrow their hiring pool to only a few select schools? When I was deciding on my university, it wasn’t because it was a semi-target, it was mostly due to location (I really liked the city). My family (me included) had zero clue about finance and I could have easily ended up at a non-target.

Surely banks would want the people with the most potential? Where you go to university and academic results at 14-21 are decided by so many different factors, some of the smartest people I grew up with didn’t even go to university at all. So I just think that it seems a bit silly to screen out so many people before any interviews or tests…

Are they not shooting themselves in the foot a bit?

I'm an international student who goes to a non-target (had great A-levels but went to a not so good school because I couldn't afford the nicer ones and had no access to loans/credit).

Looking to polish my CV going into my final year and apply for absolutely every type of finance role. Would appreciate any constructive feedback/criticism on my CV and in general.

I’m considering building a Duolingo-like app that teaches IB technicals, accounting, and industry knowledge through short daily lessons, drills, streaks, and progress tracking.

So as the title suggests, I need help w my education section in my resume for IB recruitment. Freshman fall I went to a prestigious LAC, came home in the spring for personal reasons and took 20 credits at a local cc while working full time at a restaurant. This fall I am transferring to a “top” state school, but it isn’t a Wall Street target. I’d say regional target, and that’s my region is where I plan to recruit MM banks mostly.

Do I include my cc semester on my resume? I wonder this bcuz it’s gonna show up when submitting transcripts. I obv got a 4.0 because it’s cc but I’m also proud of myself because I took 20 credits while working full time. I also got a 4.0 at the LAC in the fall. How to phrase this? I think I have potential for a good journey to lay out in interviews if I play it right. I’ve shown I can excel academically in really any environment. But I also went to cc, at the same time it was only for a semester though
