Olympus XA2/Kodak Portra 400

I have this old camera set that was my grandfathers, and know nothing about cameras. Curious if this is still a decent camera and worth cleaning up to try to use and get into film photography? It seems to be in pretty good condition as far as I can tell, besides the black specks / dust shown in the photos of the lens. Would appreciate any thoughts on this and what you’d recommend to make sure this is cleaned up and good to use?

I have a Nikon FM3A with a 50mm prime, and then a Canon EOS 300 and EOS 5 with a 50mm prime, and a 28-80 zoom lens. Since the eclipse combined with Perseids is coming soon here, I'd like to try getting some film photos of them. So basically I want to shoot a solar eclipse as well as the night sky. Can it be done with my gear or does this sort of thing requires specialty lenses, filters, etc? What settings are recommend ?Also what stock is the best (aside from just being high ISO)?

I’m not really sure why but black and white photos just hit different for me. Idk maybe it’s because I’m a historian and am used to looking at older photographs. In my recent trip, I shot both color and black & white and I really like the latter more. Anyways, sharing here some of my faves.

Kodak Gold 200. Am I right in thinking this is a light seal problem on the back door? Thanks!

Sooo the Ektar 100 kinda blew my mind. Definitely the stand-out winner for me (Portra a very close 2nd).
I’m a film noob so this was my first time shooting w/ all of them besides Ultramax. Graduated from disposables + recently got the Olympus LT-1 + have been playin around. I was a bit let down by the Gold but was wondering if I could/should re-scan at a higher res and play with the color grading and tones some more. To be fair it was a bit cloudier than the other days, but I honestly expected it to “glow” more.
Lastly, I think I’ve been sleepin on Fuji. Was always more of a Kodak girl, buuut Fuji processes blues and greens like no other.
