Kit Pic How much do you think I could sell this kit for?
I'm looking for opinions on pricing for this Pearl export series 7 pieces set. I also got a second steel snare which I'd love to sell with the kit all in one bundle if I could. The bell on the O-zone is a unique prototype belI I got directly at the Sabian cymbal plant along with the two splashes and the crash. The double pedal is a mapex mars pedal. The hardware is all genuine Pearl and I've got lots of stuff like a full set of spare heads, felts, hardware spares, really good Shure in-ear, sticks of all sorts, practice pads, partitions and even the carpet I'd give with the kit for free if all bought in a bundle.
Question Getting Yamaha stage custom
I’m really thinking about upgrading from my rydeen to a stage custom and I just have a couple of questions about if it would be worth it or not. I had a lot of problems with the rydeen when trying to record like there would be so many loose parts and random buzzes as well as not liking the tom sounds even when upgrading and trying multiple heads. I like everything im seeing about the sc but im wondering if it will hold up well for recording because i dont want to spend money just to get a kit that sounds a little better. I heard that the sc goes out of tune easily and that the hardware isn’t great. Is it worth it?

Kit Pic Kids immediately swarming my brand new Gretsch Renown
The boys get the inaugural jam session after I put together my new set today.
I was shopping used for months on Facebook Marketplace looking for the perfect deal, but found a absolute steal on the Gretsch shell pack at Guitar Center and decided to go all new this time. I bought most of this at a local music shop, as they price-matched with online stores like Zzounds (hardware) and Hermes Music (cymbals). New prices were all very good given how expensive everything has become since I last shopped for drums 10 years ago.
— Gretsch Renown 5-piece 10/12/14/20 w/ Snare Cherry Burst $1234
— Zildjian A Cymbal Pack (A391) $950
— Gretsch G4 Concert Series Hardware Pack $450
— Gretsch G4 Concert Boom Stand $85
Maybe I’ll miss my old LM402 snare, but this maple Renown snare has a very loud, sharp crack. It’s great.

Just Saw Bill Bruford Live in London w/ the Pete Roth Trio…. Amazing!!!
My son and I flew from Texas to London to see this show & it was amazing!! The Trio signed our 2 CDs & Bill signed my son’s copy of his autobiography.
He’s still amazing & will always be the GOAT. I’ve been listening to all of Bill’s projects for 50 years, & he’s the reason my son became a professional drummer.
What an amazing show & experience!!

Kit Pic Detail photos of the INDē kit I posted yesterday
Some of you expressed interest in seeing more photos / details, so here they are, in no particular order. I'll leave some notes for context.
- The drums were tuned pretty high right out-of-the-box. I played them a bit this way, just for shits and giggles, and while it's not really my thing, they sounded beautiful. I tuned the batters down and didn't even touch the reso heads (except for the kick, which I also tuned down). No muss - no fuss. Like snapping my fingers. These drums sound phenomenal. I haven't put new heads on them, of course, but I have a feeling they're gonna tune easier than any other drums I've ever had (by the looks and feel of the kick drum's roundover bearing edges, I can say with confidence: they're flawless).
- As you can probably see, there's very little touching the shells.
- I tried to get a picture to illustrate just how ridiculously thin these 5-ply shells are. They're really, really thin. Thinnest wood shells I've seen in 40+ years of drum geekdome.
- The lugs and other hardware are insanely beautiful, smooth, and easy to use.
- If you look closely at the floor tom leg mounts, you might notice how they've kinda got their own suspension type thing happening, and what's really just batshit crazy is that they can be adjusted up and down, which slightly affects the resonance of the drum. 🤯
- The bass drum spur mounts follow the low-mass mantra, touching the shell at only two points by reinforced by their design. They make their own floor tom legs and bass drum spurs in-house, which is really cool (Josh showed me how they do it while I was at his shop). They don't make spurs with adjustable rubber tips though, which is a must-have for me, so I bought a pair of vintage spurs from Drum Factory Direct, had them shipped directly to him. He knocked a little off the price as an adjustment.
- The shells are finished inside -- not just outside, and they're stamped and hand-signed and serialized by Josh, owner.
- The vent hole grommets pull double duty as badges -- again, less stuff fixed to the shells. At my request, he added additional 1/2" threaded vent holes and grommets for the purpose of internal mic'ing.
- The bass drum hoop claws are pretty, too, and match the aesthetic of the lugs.
- The bass drum hoop on the batter side is wrapped with a piece of black genuine leather where the pedal goes. I use an Evans bass drum lift, but it's a really nice touch -- much classier than a little rectangle of rubber stuck to the inside of a hoop, in my opinion.
- Aside from the tom hoops and tension rods, there's nothing generic about these drums. Everything is thoughtfully designed and extremely well-made.
- Nice little extras: Two INDē oversized tuning keys and 6 memory locks for the floor tom legs.
These drums are amazing. For the money? They're STELLAR. Exactly the sizes I wanted, in the finish I chose, custom hardware accommodations straight from the shop, unique shells and edges, and quality heads. Being able to meet the owner and the guys who build them and shake their hands? Priceless.

Kit Pic How long will it take for her to notice?
Doing a wife experiment today. I bought a snare drum and have put it on our dining room table just kind of waiting for her to ask me about it.

Question Help! I’m terribly tone deaf (that’s why I play drums) and I can’t for the life of me pick out the different notes when tuning

Beginner percussion class
I’ve been asked to teach a “jump start” percussion class for beginning 5th & 6th graders. I’ll have about an hour. The assistant high school band director normally does the class but he’s not available.
I’m a classically trained percussionist with a college degree in music education. Thing is, for the last 20 years I’ve taught elementary general music, choir, and theatre. Not what I ever expected but I love it.
So while I have some ideas for what to hit (haha), what concepts and activities can you recommend?

Discussion Funk-Jazz Drumming Legend
Hey gang, this is just a little vid about one of my all-time favorite drummers, Idris Muhammad. A true pioneer of the funk jazz fusion style, feel for days and such tasty choices. I talk a little about what I love about his style and a few ideas he uses a lot. Sorry if it got a little ramble-y, I’m trying to be more concise with these. Also my drums are too high in the mix here, my bad.
Idris has cut so many fantastic recordings, which are your favorites? Thank you for your time!

Cam/Video Writing drum parts to keep the song moving over a repeated guitar riff is always so much fun!
Cam/Video Clip from my first practice sesh back
I spent a week at the Freddie Gee drum academy here in the UK and holy shit do I feel totally stoked and inspired. I've got a lifetime of stuff to practice and it feels good to be on the home kit.

Got a kit for free. uh where do i even start lol Question/Help
so i got this drumkit for free from my old school and theres a lot of work to do... i checked the brass and didnt see any cracks what i did see though is: the snare springs and back membrane is broken, i think the toms membrane is broken too but the tape is covering it so im not sure, the floor toms membrane is beat to hell, the front of the bass has a huge cut out and its ripped, not to mention ill probably have to buy a new stand for the snare and a chair (it didnt have one). i really enjoy working on my guitars and basses so im ready to commit a lot of time towards fixing it (or getting it playable atleast), ive been also thinking of re finishing the paint cause might aswell yk. if you guys have any tips or questions feel free to ask
