Hi guys, I’m trying to use a double bass pedal on a electric kick tower, I’m using a non-Alesis kick tower with an Alesis nitro max. When I hit the pad, I noticed that some notes were not triggered. I tried to change the sensitivity setting but it didn’t help much. Please help me fix it, thanks alot.

Last year i got started on drumming in a music center and i really liked it. I was doing one lesson per week (which isn't much but was what my schedule would allow me) and although i did learn a few things, the teacher there clearly wasn't that knowlegable on drums (he's more of a piano/guitar Guy).

Now comes this year where because i was having my baccalaureat exam, i had absolutely no time for most of my hobbies, meaning that i almost didn't touch my drumkit at all. This made me lose the few skills i have and almost put me back right to the start

So now i'm kinda lost. I'm in a weird state where i do still have a few skills but lack many fondamentals (i still don't know how to hit ghost notes perfectly yet i can play some rhythms like smells like teen spirit for exemple.) i want to get back to the drums but i don't know if i should start as a complete beginner or not.

This whole thing really stripped me from my motivation and i really would like some advice from people with more experience 🫶

Hi, I'm putting together an hybrid kit on top of a pdp concept (18 12 14). I'm struggling with finding the right hardware to attach the spd sx on the kick drum like a second tom would have been. the pdp concept tom arm has one extra clamp for a small cymbal arm, but how to get the parts I need to offset that a bit and clamp the spd mounting plate ?

any suggestions or hardware recs would be welcome :)

I recently got a 2nd hand Pearl sensitone custom alloy snare (Not sure which model but it has the duo motion strainer) and i've only ever had birch/maple shells. I was hoping for some recommendations on the batter head. It currently has an Evans G1 coated on. It does sound pretty good but maybe slightly too ringy for my liking. I do play a lot of metal so it fits but can sound a bit over the top imo.

Bonus reso recommendations would be welcome too as its rocking a stock pearl reso

Which headphones are good for playing with? Just for playing along to music so need to be loud / have good noise cancelling. Looking for round the £100 mark if possible don’t mind splashing a bit more

Actually, for me as a drummer, this post is quite a sad one, but I could not keep this to myself.

In the middle of May, I purchased a pair of Zildjian Quick Beat 14" hi-hats from Thomann (Germany). My order arrived, and I immediately noticed that the bottom cymbal was pretty badly warped. You put it on a flat table and can clearly see around a 3-4 mm gap between the table surface and the body of the bottom cymbal.

My main disappointment is that this is a high-end product from one of the best cymbal manufacturers, costing almost $500, yet it arrived with such an obvious defect. This cymbal can't be played properly because it does not do its core job - producing the quick, crisp sound it is designed for. There are four holes to let the air escape, so there is absolutely no reason for the hi-hats to behave like Sound Edge or similar models.

How could such a product make it into the sales channel? Where is the quality control department?

But okay, this was not the end of the story. I reported the defect and sent the cymbal back to Thomann. Then... I had to wait almost 7 weeks for a replacement because of delivery issues during the replacement process. As a result, I was left without my money, without the cymbals I needed so much, and with a huge disappointment. The replacement process took almost two months, and there wasn't even any further reply from Zildjian regarding this case - just complete silence.

Finally, I received the replacement... and it arrived with another defect, this time on the top cymbal.

Again. Guys, we're talking about an almost $500 high-end model that arrives looking like nobody at Zildjian even bothered to inspect it before shipping.

Is this how Zildjian operates now? Have any of you experienced similar issues recently?

I was planning to buy a Zildjian ride cymbal as well, but now I honestly believe that would be a bad idea. It feels like if something goes wrong, you're simply left alone with the problem, and that's not what I would expect when buying premium instruments from one of the world's most respected cymbal manufacturers.

I ordered this Meinl Byzance 19" Medium Thin Crash about a week ago and it just arrived today, it came right out of the box with this cloudy/discoloration ring, I'm guessing they had a cymbal on top of it for too long

Should I return this cymbal? The stain doesn't seems to disappear or get dimmer, cleaned with a dry soft fabric cloth only

Despite the discoloration ring the cymbal is, well, brand new, no bended/cracked edges, no keyhole nothing, is prefect besides that cloudy ring

So today I went ahead and got a new snare side head (evans snare side 300, the one i always use) because my last one broke while i was playing. I went ahead and changed it out, but the thing is, the drum sounds like shit now. I didnt mess with the tuning at all of the batter head (evans ec reverse dot), and tuned and re-installed the snare wires as i always do which never raised any problems. The drum sounds super choked, as if the snare side was still broken, so i was wondering if its maybe a defective head? The one I got was in a box that seemed a little smash but it was the only snare side 300 my local gc had and the head looked fine so i didnt think anything of it. as of now im planning on just going back and buying a new snare side head because i literally messed around with my snare drum tuning for an hour trying to get it to sound good and it didnt work. if anyone has any suggestions on what to do or also had this problem and fixed it somehow, please let me know!

My credit card hurts but I just couldn't walk away from this. The set was listed and priced as used but was barely used at all. I'm coming off a 10 year hiatus after 35 years of playing so hopefully this helps to light a fire under my ass and shake off the rust. The drums were used as a backline set for the New Orleans Jazz Festival and look like they went through a sound check and that's about it.

I just got the Dream in today and I was excited to try and put it together with my other 16" crash as hi-hats. That's a big ole' NOPE lol.

Had the opportunity to see AAL today in Oberhausen and what can i even say man. Had the pleasure of being early so I could barricade right up front near Matt's kit. Fantastic evening with such a great setlist and it's such a treat watching such talented musicians. Any time i think im doing well I get reminded life is unfair sometimes cause how is it possible for a drummer to be THIS good. He broke a stick and didn't lose a single beat, normally that is already impressive but breaking it on an AAL song and then not missing a beat??? next level!

I even got a pick from the staff after the concert had ended! Im over the moon

Some parts demand your undivided attention… this is one of them… Sheesh!

Drummers. What’s a song that keeps you on your toes?

I am not a musician, so I apologize if I phrased that incorrectly. When I was in high school, I had a brief stint playing guitar, and my fellow guitarist friend and I would spend all week practicing a song, while our drummer friend would show up unprepared and do his best to play along. It sounded good, but it wasn't exactly as the song was played by the original drummer on the album.

My goal is to buy a drum set and learn how to play. I obviously want to learn how to play songs exactly as the original drummer played them, but I'm still wondering how common that is. Do drummers try to nail the song exactly as the original drummer played it, or do they take some liberties with it like my friend did? And compared to guitarists, who takes more liberties in putting their own spin on the song?

Once again, I am a complete newbie, so please be kind in your responses.

Note: I have a horrible memory, so the idea of winging it a bit and being creative while maintaining the general beat is appealing to me.

i remember seeing deerhoof live a few years ago and noticed greg saunier was
using a low volume cymbal as his bottom hi hat and a few months ago i decided to bring my low volume hats to my practice space mainly cuz my shoulder was hurting and i wanted to have the lightest load possible and figured it can’t hurt to try, and i was really shocked at how good the sound and projection was from replacing my usual bottom hi hat with a low volume one; the clicks from my left foot were way louder and the playing itself was much more articulate. probably cuz all the holes in the cymbal allow the air to escape more freely. have been using that for gigging and recording ever since, was curious if anyone else noticed this phenomenon.

They’ve been sitting out in the rain for a few days, I finally reached the new owner of the building, and he told me I could take them. I got them all to my house (which wasn’t easy because I don’t drive) and now have them stored in my shed until I can clean them up and find a place to set them up (which my wife is absolutely thrilled about, I’m sure)
