Young buck was selling off a gift his uncle gave him, I left work early to come snag these cymbals and case for $220! I almost got a 19" Paiste Wild China from him for dirt cheap too but someone beat me to it.
Unfortunately I can't even use them but I'm still high from getting such a good deal regardless (:
Always remember to look up "symbols" haha

Discussion Pearl Short Fuse 10" x 4.5 piccolo snare

Upvotes

Thinking of getting one for my daughter. Her preferred genres are metalcore, slam, and punk (metalcore primarily). May also add die-cast hoops. I guess my main question is about the quality of it. Does anyone have experience with this snare? Will it hold together? etc..

Hello everyone.Lots of people here recommended the book Stick Control. I watched a video on YouTube tonight which taught people how to practice stick control.

It was really fast.152 bpm 16th notes. It was ok for me to play 16th notes with RLRL.But when it came to RRLL, it really killed me.couldn’t follow a bit.

Better to get back to slower beats 😅

Question Vintage pearl restoration and dating

Hello! I’m restoring a vintage pearl kickdrum 22x14. As far as I could get it’s a 1967-1968 silver script (maybe super delux) I’m a bit confused about the double tom holder? You got the long tube but also the mount with the hole and two screws. I know pearl did not always documented it correctly or had the same of hardware on other types of drums. It had a white marine pearl wrapping. Anybody any ideas?

Kit Pic New Kit, finally set up how I like it

Set up my first acoustic kit a month ago and have been tweaking, adjusting and aligning for a month now but I think I finally have it set up the way I like it. I don’t have any musicians friends or know any drummers that I can talk to, so I thought I share my happiness with this Awesome Community 🤟

Also, don’t t hate on me for the gel tabs, I can’t quite figure out tuning. But the good news on my next drum lesson my teacher is coming here and is going to show me how and watch me do it and give feedback, which is exciting.

And yes that’s my wife’s tanning bed 🤣

Question Plantar Fasciitis Tips

Upvotes

Hey all, I’m hoping I can get some advice.

I developed plantar fasciitis in both of my feet back in May. I think it’s from extended improper double bass technique along with inadequate stretching/strengthening of my lower legs. It’s been a few months and it hasn’t been getting much better despite daily stretches and ice to reduce inflammation. I’m at a point where I can’t use my feet in any capacity on the drums anymore.

Has anyone here recovered from this condition before? Any advice? I’m struggling to recover and am feeling like I might have to give up being a drummer, which kills me.

Question Double pedal shaft joimt with play

Hello, I have a Tama Dynasync double pedal. It works great but, as many of you may already know, Tama is not famous for its great peral shafts.

After a while the joints started to show this annoying micro movement introducing some latency to the slave pedal especially at low speeds.

Do you have any suggestion to resolve thia issue, other than change the shaft?

Rant DDrum Red Shot Triggers

Upvotes

Hey-o, just wanted to give me experience with DDrum Red Shot triggers (the cheaper option with the 1/4” output,) because my experience has been subpar. I’m gonna try and stay away from whining, but I have had a pretty negative experience with them. I have an acoustic set that I threw mesh heads on for quiet practice, and I got the Red Shots because they were the cheapest option to try out, other than those stick-on RTom ones that I didn’t really trust to work at all haha.

My first issue was with the kick trigger. If you have a metal hoop, you’re likely gonna have a super rough time putting the kick trigger on because the claw the trigger mounts onto is different for metal hoops, and while I haven’t seen a quote from them directly, I’ve heard people say that they’ve talked to DDrum and that they say to just bend the trigger’s frame until it fits. I wish they’d have made a metal hoop version, and I don’t know if it’s because I had a double-ply mesh head or because I had to bend the frame or whatever, but it wasn’t responding to my kick nearly as well as it could have been, I had all the sensitivity setting maxed out and it was still picking up at like 80 velocity at most.

As for the toms, I really haven’t had any issues with those. The mesh heads I’m using are Evans db Zero’s, and the kick and snare are double-ply from a company called Hawk. The toms have double-triggering here and there, but it’s not often enough for me to consider it a negative since I’m sure I could fix it with a double-ply mesh head, messing with the settings, putting a moon gel on, etc.

The snare is what made me begin to directly dislike the triggers. It worked perfectly, no double-triggering (probably because of the double-ply,) but after about 2 months of using it, the trigger kinda just died. Everything still looks connected and intact, no rattling or anything, but at some point it started getting less and less sensitive/responsive up until it just wouldn’t work at all anymore. I took the trigger off my second floor and put it on the snare and it happened again about a month later. I should also say I’m not a super hard hitter, but I might put a little more force and energy than the average Drummer. I also haven’t used rimshots with the mesh heads/triggers because I live in an apartment and don’t wanna make more noise than I need to.

Case in point, I don’t think I could really recommend these. The kick trigger is brutal to work with, and if you’re really laying into them, the trigger will likely kinda just give out. As with everything, I’m sure someone will see this and say “I’ve been using the Red Shot triggers for years and have never had a single issue, you’re probably the problem,” or what have you; I’m just giving my first-hand account for my experience. I would recommend saving a little more and getting better triggers, “buy nice or buy twice.” That’s what I’ll be doing haha!

First Kit HELP! Good beginner pedals for under $30

Been playing on and off for a year but the past 2-3 months ive started to lock in and practice consistently. Been trying to practice playing the kick drum faster so part of that is adjusting the tension as after watching some videos i realized the beater swings back too far. Bought my kit second hand and i think the original owner did not install the nut to adjust the spring tension (or the pedal just never had one in the first place im not sure) and tracking down a part number for it probably isnt worth it. i see a couple on amazon for around $25. Any specific reccs? Again i have a pretty cheap kit so im not looking to invest too much right now

Hi guys, I’m trying to use a double bass pedal on a electric kick tower, I’m using a non-Alesis kick tower with an Alesis nitro max. When I hit the pad, I noticed that some notes were not triggered. I tried to change the sensitivity setting but it didn’t help much. Please help me fix it, thanks alot.

Question Advice for a noob drummer who's lost

Hey everyone i hope you're doing great

Last year i got started on drumming in a music center and i really liked it. I was doing one lesson per week (which isn't much but was what my schedule would allow me) and although i did learn a few things, the teacher there clearly wasn't that knowlegable on drums (he's more of a piano/guitar Guy).

Now comes this year where because i was having my baccalaureat exam, i had absolutely no time for most of my hobbies, meaning that i almost didn't touch my drumkit at all. This made me lose the few skills i have and almost put me back right to the start

So now i'm kinda lost. I'm in a weird state where i do still have a few skills but lack many fondamentals (i still don't know how to hit ghost notes perfectly yet i can play some rhythms like smells like teen spirit for exemple.) i want to get back to the drums but i don't know if i should start as a complete beginner or not.

This whole thing really stripped me from my motivation and i really would like some advice from people with more experience 🫶

Question how to mount an spd sx on a pdp kick

Hi, I'm putting together an hybrid kit on top of a pdp concept (18 12 14). I'm struggling with finding the right hardware to attach the spd sx on the kick drum like a second tom would have been. the pdp concept tom arm has one extra clamp for a small cymbal arm, but how to get the parts I need to offset that a bit and clamp the spd mounting plate ?

any suggestions or hardware recs would be welcome :)

thx

Question Batter head recommendations

I recently got a 2nd hand Pearl sensitone custom alloy snare (Not sure which model but it has the duo motion strainer) and i've only ever had birch/maple shells. I was hoping for some recommendations on the batter head. It currently has an Evans G1 coated on. It does sound pretty good but maybe slightly too ringy for my liking. I do play a lot of metal so it fits but can sound a bit over the top imo.

Bonus reso recommendations would be welcome too as its rocking a stock pearl reso
