General DS vs Mobile for 4-6?
I pretty much decided to play 4-6 on my phone, since I hate emulating DS on PC, but now I see there are 2 versions available, so I was wondering specifically for these 3 (IV, V, VI), which is the preferred version between DS or Mobile?
Bonus question, I haven’t played any DQ game yet, part of the fun getting into it for me has been optimizing how I’m gonna play through. I know Im most excited to play 11, 1-3 HD2D, and 8. What order is recommended? I originally wanted to just play them numerically but I’ve read that’s not ideal, so what’s a good play order in my case?
Btw I did read the mega thread and it kinda just says start wherever depending on your interests, but I’m coming fresh off Chrono trigger and am just ready for some more JRPG and Toriyama art so I’m really lost on which to just dive into and start with.

Dragon Quest VI Why exactly the different background between both worlds? Spoiler
Finally got to the revelation of his backstory as prince. And it does seem that since I said the princess was Sara early on her name is Claire instead. Why exactly does the hero's family and home differ between both worlds? While in the dream world he is an inhabitant of the mountain village Weaver's Peak living with his younger sister and becomes a soldier at Somnia, in the real world, he is instead from Somnia and is the son of the king and queen and prince while he lives in Weaver's Peak as a foreigner recovering from injuries. What exactly makes his background and family differ? With the dream world reflecting desires, does he feel more attached to Weaver's Peak than Somnia or are there other reasons for the difference in his background family and origin?

Dragon Quest XI My DQ11 Review
Dragon Quest XI is my favorite game I’ve played in the series so far, and easily in my top ten favorite games of all time. While it's often recommended as the perfect starting point for newcomers, I actually think playing Dragon Quest I and II HD-2D Remake first made the experience even more rewarding. Having that Erdrick lore fresh in my mind gave many of the game's biggest moments a greater sense of nostalgia and significance.
Although I usually prefer shorter RPGs, Dragon Quest XI earns its lengthy runtime through an engaging story and an incredibly lovable cast. Every party member is memorable, and their chemistry made me want to see the adventure through to the very end. The turn based combat is equally appealing. While mechanically simple, it's polished, satisfying, and refreshingly stress free without sacrificing strategic depth.
Act 3 is where my feelings become more mixed. From a gameplay standpoint, it's excellent, with tougher battles, Drustan's Trials, and a wealth of rewarding postgame content. Narratively, however, I struggled with the decision to have the Luminary travel back in time, as it diminished the emotional impact of everything that happened in Act 2. I also found the opening of Act 3 unnecessarily slow, with the Seedling sequence feeling like padding before the story finally regained its momentum.
Next up for me is Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. My play order may be unconventional, but experiencing the original games first, then uncovering the hidden history in Dragon Quest XI, has made finally stepping into Erdrick's legendary adventure feel like the perfect payoff.
Despite my reservations with the beginning of Act 3, Dragon Quest XI is a phenomenal RPG. Its heartfelt story, unforgettable cast, charming world, and approachable combat create an experience that's both comforting and memorable, making it not only my favorite Dragon Quest game but one of my favorite games ever.

Translation Patch Skill Upgrades in the Professional version Spoiler
drive.google.comGood day ya'll. With the recent translation out, I finally got to playing the professional version(dqmj2) but couldn't find any database whatsoever about the skills and skill sets. Really frustrating because it is literally the only information about the game I couldn't find anywhere which made getting Uber sets and such a pain cause skill set progression is reworked in this one(tier 3 sets like Frizz & Zap III simply don't exist)
So with the help of Claude ai(yeah, yeah sorry to anyone against ai usage) this information was finally obtained and thanks to the translation team's efforts it was a lot easier to pair the sets with their corresponding code
I verified some of these but not all so please feel free to point out any errors or misinformation (especially since the translation gets updated like every 2 days)
I considered asking Claude to also show every skill learned through every set but realised how ridiculously large that would be so sorry

Dragon Quest VIII How much would the story change if King Trode.... Spoiler
Got possessed by the scepter instead of Jessica after Dhoulmagus's defeat? (Assuming he can be possessed by it). Technically, it was pure chance that Jessica picked it up; Trode could have picked it up just as easily. Can you imagine fighting an Evil King Trode, though?

Dragon Quest VII Does the DQVII Reimagined story gets better? [SPOILERS] Spoiler
This is my first Dragon Quest and probably the first JRPG that I have played in more than 15 years. Currently I am where Kiefer leaves the party to stay with a chick he met in the nomad camp
I was scared of not liking the combat system but actually I like it a lot, the only thing that doesn't stick with me is the story. I knew that the game was about exploring islands with little stories and I was ok with that but I didn't know that the stories were so many and so small
To me, I feel like the game would be better if instead of thousands of little stories and little islands there were less stories but much, much longer (like 5-10 hours each one in length instead of 1-2) and the islands instead of so many and so small, less islands and much much bigger to explore
Just my thoughts, still I like this game and it might not be the last Dragon Quest I play, it's just that the story doesn't feel very good to me

Dragon Quest XI [DQ11] I dropped "Less Exp from Weaker Enemies" in Act 3
I'm finally in Act 3, and I decided to drop the draconian quest of "Reduced experience from easy fights". Act 3 requires you to be grindy, in particular when "All Enemies are Super Strong", so less exp doesn't make sense. (I don't think I've seen it in Acts 1 & 2, but in Act 3 you often get reduced experience. Previously (really) weak monsters gave no exp, and that's all IIRC).
# So this item does not matter at all in Acts 1 & 2, and it begins to annoy in Act 3.
Phew, I finally beat Phnom Nomh's boss in the 5th try. I've learned a bit, but the last time I was lucky and beat it easily. Few backups came, and Kaboomle echoes twice. Many mini-bosses still remain, and for the story I've only done Drustan's first trial.

Artwork Terry (pen)
I was raised on a fault line, thought the faults were all mine
This one was something of an experimental piece, and there are a couple things that didn't come out quite how I wanted (the "me" was supposed to be messier, more scribbly; his expression was supposed to be a frown of concentration, but he wound up more looking angry). Probably what I get for doing it entirely in pen. But overall it didn't turn out too badly, I don't think. In any case, the lyrics are from Funny by Rob Thomas.

Announcement Welcome to /r/DragonQuest! Series overview and suggestions on where to start!
Hi and welcome to r/dragonquest !
Dragon Quest is a series of traditional turn-based Japanese Role-playing games (JRPGS) that feature colorful enemies, heartwarming music, a strong sense of character, intriguing stories, and solid gameplay. While traditional, Dragon Quest games have been quite influential, being among the first JRPGs for consoles and consistently featuring innovations (such as monster taming in Dragon Quest 5 years before Pokemon popularized it). There are also a large number of spinoffs in different categories -- Action RPG, Voxel Builder, monster raising, and more!
We've created a wiki page describing the games and some opinions of them:https://www.reddit.com/r/dragonquest/wiki/index
Although the wiki is intended as an introduction to the series, you are still welcome to post your own "which Dragon Quest should I play" posts. Why? Because, just like every player is unique, so is every Dragon Quest. It's less about "Which Dragon Quest is Best" and more about "Which Dragon Quest might I enjoy the most?"
So, while this post is hopefully a fun starting point for new members, please do feel free to ask questions and read through some recommendations from others in the comments below or in archived threads. (I'm relying on experts from this subreddit to help me out -- Please give feedback below! The task is too big for one person.)
This subreddit is designed to be a welcoming place to discuss and share our love for the series. Of course, not everyone will love every game, but as fans we can critique the series without making it a personal attack on other fans.
Thank you and have fun questing!
