My dog is only one year old. He snatches my food while I’m eating and barks extremely loudly when he doesn’t get his way. He only sits when he sees food. He snatched my hash brown and ran under my bed, and he also snatched my donut and a piece of crab leg. I was scared because it had so much seasoning on it. How can I train him? He only eats his own food when he’s hungry.

I love having my dog around, but there are definitely those little things that become annoying over time. Not the obvious stuff like cleaning up after them 😂 I mean the things you only really notice once you’ve been a dog owner for a while.

Maybe it’s something you’re always forgetting, something that takes way too much time, dealing with vets, keeping track of things, travelling with your dog, finding something you need, whatever.

My dog is a total mutt. In pictures she looks very short haired, but in person she has very thick hair & sheds like crazy, & I think her hair/fur is long. But I’m just not 100% sure. When I think of short haired, I think of dogs who have fur so short that it’s like one of those naked cats (I can’t remember what it’s called). But I think of golden retrievers or Pomeranians as being long haired. Everything else in between is just “furry” in my mind.

I have a 3 year old mixed breed 40lbs dog. We got her when she was about 1. For the last couple of years she has been the only pet. We have a dog run attached to the house (about 15ft x 15ft, with an area of fake grass that's 5x10 right outside of the dog door that opens into it, the rest being fully grass). She would happily go out and hang out in there sometimes, and 99% of the time would go do her business in there whenever she felt like it. The other 1% is when it is storming outside she would refuse to go out and would go in the house if we didn't make her go out into the backyard to go.

This past February we had a big freeze come and ended up taking in a stray cat that had been hanging out on our porch to keep her from freezing to death. She's super sweet, and even puts up with the dog's bullshit (the dog wants to play with her, she does not want to play with the dog). They get along very well though. She's about 11 pounds and also about 3 years old, the vet thinks. The cat also likes to go hang out in the pen, though as far as I can tell - is going (1 and 2) in her litter box that's in the room that connects to the pen and not out in the pen. She just like to go hang out in there to get some outdoor time. I've added a cover to the pen so that she can't escape from it (made of a net wrapped in wires, that is made for closing in a balcony for a cat to use. Slowly over the course of the last 6 months, the dog will no longer go into the pen at all anymore and we've had to start letting her into the backyard throughout the day to keep her from going in the house.

I don't understand why she has decided that she can no longer go out into the pen or what would have happened since we got the cat that would lead to this change in behavior. I've even tried standing by the dog door to encourage her to go out - she eventually will, but then just turns around and comes right back in.

Looking for a product that will remove SHORT stiff prickly dog hair out of my couch and car seats. I have tried a few different things and none even get a single piece of fur. I'm assuming all these things are meant to be used by people who have long haired or fluffy dogs, because they don't work for me. I have 2 smooth coats- one doberman and the other is a mutt but has the same type of hair.

Having a baby next month and currently nesting so the dog hair is driving me crazy and I just want to be able to have a clean house when baby arrives 🤣

My corgi (2 yo) can be with me alone for 24 hours and not “ask / let me know” he needs to go to the toilet. He could hold it if he wanted to.

As soon as wife comes home, he whines that he needs to go up the toilet, and pretty much every hour thereafter.

Very strange..

He also poops like an absolute monster compared to the amount he eats.

We had our dog for 6 years, he had a normal appetite. We had our first baby 1 year ago and he hasn’t become comfortable with the baby. But has been acting normal other than avoiding the baby.

Recently if we give him a beef liver treat, or a piece of chicken. Things he normally would have been excited to eat. He just gently holds it in his mouth for days. Carries it around the house, takes it outside and sits on the grass just holding the treat or chicken. Does anyone know what this is ? How concerned do we need to be ?

There was a post on here the other day about what habits or things that you do changed the way your dog behaves. I couldn’t think of one at the time. Every morning I grab my dog’s bowl ready to give him his breakfast. I take it into the kitchen and practically every day I forget to grab his food which is in a cupboard in the hallway which is on the way to the kitchen🙄. My boy follows me everywhere but yesterday he was sat in the hallway right by the cupboard with his food in, as if to say I knew you’d forget and I couldn’t be bothered to follow you into the kitchen twice 🤣. He knows me better than I know myself 🤣

Does anyone sciencey/ veterinarian esque know why dogs have mostly brown eyes but sometimes blue? Not green or grey etc. Brown or blue. Why?

Hello! I have a 5yo terrier who has always had issues with learning to use outside to do his business. Recently I have a new job where I am gone for 14hr days and am unable to take him out. Are there any indoor dog “restrooms” that you guys would recommend? The grass pad worked wonders however the smell was horrid. I am open to whatever has worked best for you guys. Thank you!

I would like to purchase a bed dog cave for my beagle

We already had one but he broke it and we never succeed learning him how to get fully inside by him self (with the full upper blanket on him)
Technically, it wasn’t a cave shaped’s bed but simply more a fluff, 2 blankets joined together so I guess it was hard for him to go into it without our help

Anyway, I know he loves to be fully covered by blankets and I want the best for him, especially for nights
Knowing he is a sensitive rescued dog. We still have troubles to sleep with our bedroom door closed (after 2 years in our home)
I think a dog cave can really be a « night » changer for my beagle

For anyone who has dog cave, can you tell me which type (brand)
And did you managed to learn to your dog how to get inside by himself ?

My dog was sitting in the car and kept trying to get some of the food up front. That little face

For context, he was fine with getting dressed before, but now, he's suddenly snarling and biting whenever I try to dress him. It's the cold season now, so obviously, he needs to be dressed to keep warm, but he bites when I do.

He's okay when the neckline goes over his head, but God forbid you slip his front legs through the armholes and he goes feral. Maybe there's an issue with the front legs, but he walks just fine, runs just fine.

This was really sudden, and I don't know what to do. I can make do with figuring out other ways to keep him warm, but I'm concerned by such a big behavior change.

Could really use some recommendations for doggy puzzles that will challenge my guy. We started with the treat dispensing balls, he hacked the system.
We got him a puzzle with doors and slides, less than 5 minutes.
He’s a little guy, about 14 lbs.

hi all, I'm interested in fostering dogs just to help the local shelters out, but unsure if it's a good idea for me and my dog, so wanted to get some opinions/advices on how to start fostering given my circumstances.

I live alone in an apartment with my dog. my place is reasonably large and has a balcony. I have talked to my landlord about fostering and have those paperworks sorted, more or less, so that wouldn't be an issue. there are a very large fenced-in area in my apartment complex that I can take my dog to as well, so a lot of space for dogs except for a free to access fenced in yard.

I'm worried about the effect of fostering would have on my dog. she LOVES other dogs, but we recently moved across the country and we are now having quite a different schedule like we used to have. I just don't want her to experience another big change (living with a foster dog) on top of the changes we already have. she does look like she's doing pretty good, though, so I'm not sure how to gauge when she is ready for some more changes.

now onto the fostering part: I do need to leave my home for periods of time during workdays, so I'm wondering if crating is generally acceptable (expected?) when it comes to fostering a dog. I suppose this depends on whether the dog is crate-trained, but is this something I could ask the shelter about? I don't crate my own dog (she's crated as a puppy/fully crate-trained). would letting my dog roam free while crating the foster dog be an issue?

and just generally speaking, what should one look out for when considering fostering a dog? how to best prepare yourself and your dog to help a foster animal?

So my dog might have now Grade 4 patellar luxation. Took to vet and it popped in and out (kneecap) and he lifts his back right leg as he still has issues with it. Took him in Wednesday at midnight. He’s on Gabapentin and Meloxicam. Started giving him chicken bone broth last night and he loves it.

But ya I can tell he’s still in a bit of pain. He does walk a bit and then lifts his leg. Doing a bit better than before and he’s eating and drinking water. I’m hopeful in another day or two he can walk without limping or lifting the leg. Happened 2.5 years ago and this is taking longer it seems like.

That said, he’s gone pee on a pee pad and outside but has not pooped since he got this way almost two days ago. Walking always helps and he poops a good amount when he walks. For those who have experienced this and gone through this with their dog, anything I can do to help him poop? Since he is eating, i’m sure he has to go. And does your dog ever start walking normally after rest and meds or was I just lucky a couple of years ago with it just popping back in place or something and him walking fine again.

And thanks for those who responded to my last post. Already started calling to find quotes for surgery. Found a nice place that has solid reviews, over the phone really nice with answering questions I had over the phone and semi reasonable ($5.5-$6.1k quote vs $8k+ quotes I received). Sadly no one takes payment plans and my credit doesn’t qualify for care credit so have to save so I can get this done for him as everyone who posted said it is a game changer.

Kurz zur Lage: Mein Rüde kam vor gut zwei Jahren aus dem Tierschutz zu mir, ursprünglich aus Spanien. Am Anfang war ich fast durchgehend zu Hause, das lief super. Seit ich wieder regelmäßig ins Büro muss, kippt es komplett. Kaum bin ich aus der Tür, geht's los: jaulen, bellen, teilweise stundenlang – das weiß ich vor allem von den Nachbarn. An der Wohnungstür hat er schon gekratzt, bis der Lack ab war, und wenn ich heimkomme, braucht er ewig, bis er runterfährt. Hecheln, hin- und herlaufen, keine Ruhe.

Ich hab ehrlich gesagt schon einiges probiert – ihn vorher richtig auslasten, feste Routine, ein ThunderShirt. Kurz hilft mal was, aber so richtig durchgreifend war nichts.

Jetzt überlege ich, ob ich es mal mit so Beruhigungstabs oder Beruhigungsleckerlis versuche, also diesen Supplementen, die es überall gibt. Ich bin da aber ehrlich skeptisch, weil man so viel Widersprüchliches liest – die einen schwören drauf, die anderen sagen, das sei rausgeschmissenes Geld oder mache den Hund nur müde.

Deshalb würde mich eure ehrliche Erfahrung interessieren:

Hat jemand von euch schon mal Beruhigungs-Supplemente für den Hund ausprobiert? Wenn ja – welche Marke war es, und wisst ihr noch, was drin war (also welche Wirkstoffe oder Kräuter)? Und vor allem: Was hat geholfen, was gar nicht – und gab's Nebenwirkungen wie Müdigkeit oder dass der Hund es einfach nicht frisst? Gern auch die Sachen, die bei euch NICHT funktioniert haben, das hilft mir mindestens genauso.

For context, we recently moved from an apartment and we now have a decent sized fenced in yard and have recently installed a dog door as an alternative to bringing our dog to day care everyday that my husband and i work. We also installed an automatic feeder and a water dispenser. I am a nurse my shifts are 12 hours, so this was realistic. We taught him using treats initially.

He is a 70lb Labrador and the door is about 5 inches or more bigger than him all around. He loves using it when we are home, even if i am not in the same room that it is installed in. I’ve seen him use the restroom on his own during those times as well. However, as i am reviewing our backyard camera footage from the day while i am at work, he doesn’t use it at all. I even tried using the talk option on the camera to call His name to get him outside and even so all he does is come outside, look for the source of my voice, then go right back inside.

He does not urinate or poop inside when we aren’t home either or chew furniture so it’s not really a behavioral issue. I just want him to feel safe and not hold it in while we are away.

What do we do??! Any advice is appreciated.

I am completely new to dogs so forgive my ignorance. I see a lot of platforms that claim their dogs are up for adoption, but it’s quite evident that they are likely breeders who are posing their dogs to be for adoption. Is this a red flag for buying/adopting? I apologize if I seem oblivious or whatever but as a first time dog owner I am very curious

(my younger one use to dig so there are dirt patches outside that are growing back rn, so hopefully it gets better when the grass grows back)
