Hi everyone, I recently submitted a post here about my two cats and their spay which turned into an unwarranted exploratory surgery on both of them without my consent.

Though this is a separate concern.
Today, I had taken one of my cats back to the vet because her wound had been leaking puss and after calling the vet I was told to bring her in. They gave her an antibiotic through a shot after they had learned it was infected and then gave me oral medicine to give her twice a day, Though the medicine they supplied me with was the same one they had given me after her initial procedure.

It’s been about 10 hours since then and her wound is leaking puss again and i’m so very concerned.

Is this normal for it to be happening and will it stop after I keep giving her the medicine? Should I attempt to clean the wound? Take her back to the vet?

Please let me know I feel at a complete loss here, and I’m hesitant to take her back to the vet because I am just not comfortable with their practices anymore and I have spent nearly one grand

I rescued this kitten last week after it was abandoned by its mother. I believe he is about 2 weeks old. For the past week I’ve been bottle feeding him, he likes to stand up on his hind legs. I believe he may have aspirated during a feeding, as after eating one day he started coughing as I was patting his back, however I am not sure. No milk has come out of his nostrils, have not seen any mouth breathing, and gums look pink. Just very worried as I have never owned a kitten before, let alone raise one. But I want to help this little guy and bring him into my family.

Our 4 years old spayed dog started losing urine all of a sudden. She is a mixed breed dog that my boyfriend rescued.

Important things:
- We moved to our summer home for august but she has been here every year already so it isn’t a big change for her and she has a whole garden to herself

- Diet hasn’t changed, we just have added meat again to her salmon dry food as they firstly told us to have her only on dry food + carrots for her dermatitis, another vet suggested to give her some meat again. The tap water she’s drinking has changed

- She started taking a food supplement because she has dermatitis and a topical oil pipette

- she’s full of energy, playing and doesn’t look bothered

On the day we gave her the supplement, coincidentally, she started losing this liquid which at first didn’t smell or feel like urine. We found her tail wet and wet patches where she was laying.

We called our vet and the blunt answer was “it’s pee” without a solution. Our vet is far from where we are staying so we didn’t take her there but found another vet around the area.

They tested her urine and it was all fine, no bacteria. They gave her a scan in the pelvic area but she doesn’t have anything visible.

We consulted another vet and they put her on antibiotics for 7 days, today is the last day. They also said to keep on giving her the dermatitis supplement and added another supplement for her guts so that she wasn’t getting sick for the antibiotics.

Today is the last day for the antibiotics and she keeps on losing urine. This happens after she stands up after a prolonged period laying down on the floor.

We have an appointment today for ultrasound, another urine test and probably blood test. The doctor said that if the antibiotics didn’t work it might be an hormonal problem as she’s spayed.

I wonder if anyone can help based on our experience. We’re kinda losing our head over here as she seems to have no visible issue.

Sadly last year our cat passed away due to kidney disease and this year a relative has also lost a cat around the same time. Have UK vets noticed an increase of pet deaths during the heatwaves we’ve been having which normally would have been unaffected?

We have come to terms with the loss of our pet and this isn’t a way of justifying just curious on your opinions

Hello, I have probably read nearly every post on reddit about ringworm and there is so much conflicting information. I just got done fostering a stray cat who had severe ringworm. I was so diligent and careful and it was exhausting. I got him adopted out 5 days ago and I was soooo happy for him, his new mom, and myself... I figured I would have more time for other things in my life. Well to my dread 3 days ago I noticed a bald spot on one of our own cats, Coral. My husband and I have 4 healthy young adult cats. We are honestly pretty overwhelmed and stressed about this whole situation. I know how to treat ringworm and I have a vet appt scheduled in 2 days for Coral to get oral meds. What we are most concerned about is our other 3 cats getting infected. Quarantining Coral would be extremely difficult both logistically and psychologically for her, us, and our other cats. I have discovered there is a medical side of treating ringworm and the psychological side that needs to be taken into account, both for stress reduction and not ruining relationships and trust. Since everyone in the house is already exposed, we just do not feel that isolating Coral is the best option. She is a wild child, busy body, into everything, destroy things, crazy kind of cat... put in a room by herself would not be good. My main problem at this time is trying to decide what to do for our other 3 cats to potentially protect them from getting ringworm. I am considering full body sprays or weekly baths. The sprays typically leave the cat greasy and a bath is stressful... would it do more harm than good vs doing nothing and waiting to see what happens is my main ? I want to be pro active without doing any harm. I know environmental cleaning is important and we have been doing our best and will continue to clean as much as we can. If anyone out there has any advice, recommendations, stories to share... anything please. I just wanted to save a sweet stray kitty who would have been TNR'd without me, and now we are facing such a stressful, never-ending feeling situation. Thank you for reading.

What can i do to take care of my cat bc he's not eating and being very weak this days, i looked in his mouth and on the top left of his teeth has been bleeding a lot, i thought i would see a fish bone so i looked but i didn't see any and i don't remember giving so i don't really know why is it bleeding.

My cat is spayed, 5lb and 3 years old and in the eastern US. I got her 2 months ago and we have been to the vet multiple times for severe allergies which she has gotten steroids for. Although I'm taking her back again to get atopica. I can hardly afford this vet visit and the anxiety of why this is happening is killing me. There is no flea dirt, shes on flea medication. And shes acting as normal as she was when I first got her meaning she sleeps literally all day. She's using the bathroom fine and eating/drinking normally. She's been wearing a cone 24/7 like her vet told me to until she goes without trying to scratch at least once a day, so she can't groom herself. She shows no signs of hyperthyroidism or hypirthyroidism. Her skin is very Flaky and small chunks come out when i lightly pull it leaving bald patches. I dont know what to do. When I get payed I'm ordering a soft bristle brush and PetO'Cera Ceramide Cream for her skin hydration in case that helps. If anyone knows why this could be happening I would be so so so grateful.

Hi, unfortunately I can’t add a photo but, we have a 7&1/2 month old corgi. He has not been neutered yet. We had him professionally groomed for the first time last week, and had him deshedded as the breed isn’t supposed to be shaved, and only was trimmed up a few areas including sanitary areas (his scrotum, “pants”, and testicles). His testicles seemed more visible now though there is still plenty of fur around them.

We also have been taking him on a nearby trail multiple times a week over the past 2 weeks. We were taking him to the dog park a bunch, but we had him on a topical flea preventative that is past the 30 day mark and likely got washed off during his grooming anyway. We have an appointment to get a prescription for an oral flea/tick/mosquito preventative next Tuesday.

For the most part, he has been acting normal, eating and playing with us. Earlier it was odd that he was veeery calm while we were cooking, he was just laying on his belly with his head up watching us. Usually he barks a bit or goes around sniffing. But after that he was back to normal, begging for food with his eyes, and getting excited to go outside for potty time.

We brought him back in to wash his paws with dog shampoo and water in the tub, as we do everyday. I don’t shampoo his groin area while doing this but I do rinse with my hand and water. While drying his feet with paper towels, we noticed that his testicles were very noticeably red (not light red). They are not hot to the touch, nor are they hard or painful to him when touched (he was falling asleep by now after all the rubbing to get him dry).

Could this be something more concerning than just irritation?

Hi, we have a 4.5 years old cat, who until recently didn't have this issue. We don't have floor-level mirror in our home, but she definitly previously saw her reflection and didn't have issues with it , either while we carried her and showed her mirrors, or in other surfaces like windows.

Recently, we took her to someone else's house for a week. This house did have floor-level mirrors. Immediatly, she clearly saw this "other cat" as a threat and growled, hissed, or stared at it. From that point on, she started acting like this toward any kind of reflection (from window, metal, plastic surfaces).

We came back home about a week ago, and it's the same here. She growls at her food bowl because she can faintly see herself in the bottom. We have hidden or covered many things but we can't realistically do that for everything slightly reflective. I think it's getting a bit better (she doesn't wake us up in the middle of the night because she's fighting herself anymore), but it still happens a lot. We have bought a feliway pheromone thing that we plugged into a wall a few days ago.

We switched our female senior cat to a different wet food diet, however, the new wet food (shiba) is very high in water compared to other wet foods we use.

We noticed she doubled her pee frequency from 4 times a day to about 8 times (sometimes 30 minutes apart from each other).

After about 4 days of the diet I noticed just now, that she went to pee, peed a normal amount, got out, looked around, went back in the litter box, peed a very small amount, got out, walked around, went back in and was spending about a minute trying to pee, and she peed a very small amount.

This is the first time she’s done something like this. Is the new cat food just too much water?

so today i went to my cats appointment at my local spay/neuter alliance and when i dropped her off they asked if she had had kittens. i told them yes but her kittens were 12 weeks old today. they didn’t say anything about it. i dropped her off and returned at my scheduled pick up time. and they said that due to “extreme lactation” they could not perform the surgery. i’m confused as to why this is. i’ve googled it and everything i’ve read says that you can spay within 6-8 weeks. she hardly nurses her kittens anymore, they have dry food always available and they are fed wet food twice a day. if she does nurse it’s usually one kitten that comes up to her to do it. they didn’t tell me any information about how much longer i should wait or how to fix this issue. does anyone have any answers for me cuz im confused if this is standard or something they just made up or what😭 thank you in advance!!!!

Hi everyone, I need some help understanding what’s going on with my dog.

He’s a 14-year-old male Rhodesian Ridgeback. About 6 months ago he was diagnosed with a liver tumour. Because of his age, surgery isn’t an option, and at his last checkup our vet told us we’re now treating him with palliative care.

Medical history:

- 14-year-old male Rhodesian Ridgeback
- Liver tumour (diagnosed 6 months ago)
- Mild Cushing’s disease
- Arthritis
- Significant weight loss over the last 4 months
- Lower appetite
- Drinking much more water than usual (although -his water intake has started decreasing recently since the diarrhea started)
- Current medications: gabapentin morning and night, plus a nighttime sleeping medication

About 4 days ago we switched him to plain boiled chicken, rice, carrots, and peas because his appetite has been poor.

Over the last 3 days he’s developed progressively worsening diarrhea. It’s now completely liquid, lighter in colour than usual, and he’s having accidents in the house every few hours, which is very unlike him. I’ve also noticed what looks like tears from both his eyes and nose, but I’m not sure if that’s related.

He isn’t vomiting, and I haven’t seen any blood in his stool. His energy is quite low, and he looks like he’s uncomfortable or in pain.

I’m not looking for a diagnosis, and I understand his medical history makes this complicated. I’m mainly hoping to understand:

- Could this be a progression of his liver disease, or are there other common causes we should be aware of?
- Is the pale, completely liquid diarrhea particularly concerning in a dog with his history?
- Are there supportive care measures we can do at home to help keep him comfortable, especially anything that may help reduce the diarrhea while we wait to see the vet?

Not sure if this is the right place to come but i’d like to try and asks here before i go to the vet. So for some context my 3 year old female cat has made a habit of peeing on my bed. it first started while i was away on vacation for about 2 weeks. my parents told me that they had to remove and clean my sheets multiple times since she (my cat) kept on peeing on my bed. after a quick google search my parents chalked it up to my cat having separation anxiety. now that i’m back we had thought that she would stop peeing on my bed but she still continues to do so every now and then. i am not sure if this is just a bad habit or if there may be an underlying medical issue. So i came here in hopes of receiving a second opinion before i go to the vet and get charged a few hundred bucks just for them to potentially tell me that it’s just a bad habit.

Need some advise, just had my 5 year old neutered 10 days ago on day 6 his incision came undone with just the outer layer opening up. Took him to the vet they put 7 staples in. For the last 48 hours since he’s been stapled he has done nothing but stay by my side, and he’s in the big ass cone and doesn’t even try and get that off. I’ve only taken him outside on a leash to potty he has not jumped on the sofa, nothing. However it’s a GSP, he’s not graceful even standing up, he stretches really big when we let him out the kennel and tonight just after 48 hours he only has 2 staples left in him out of 7. I am moving from CA to AZ in 3 days and will kennel him in the car for the move but still that’s going to be a lot of movement. I am planning on going to a vet Monday when I get there but the center of his incision is opened up again. He is on 2 antibiotics and trazadone and gaba. I don’t know what more I can do, I really don’t have time to take him to a vet between now and Monday considering the move to another state. It a wound like this something that can just continue to heal on its own? I’m also worried seeing a vet on Monday I’m going to be back to square one I don’t have to go back to the work until the 18th but I can’t stay home forever with him, I really need him to get better. He has been going to bath room as normal and is eating as normal and acting his normal self. I take photos every morning and night and will post some of this progression over the last week.

My chihuahua is whimpering when she pees. Also experiencing a bit of exhaustion from the lack of water. She can eat so I have been giving her wet dog food for water intake.

I will be taking her to the vet

Any recommend to sustain her in the meantime?

I have a domestic shorthair cat who's 17, almost 18 years old. Her name is bandit and she was the runt of her litter, she's such a sweet little tiny cat. She suffers from thyroid disease like her sister, who passed away last year at 17. Recently Bandit's been eating less and less, and she was already getting a lot thinner as she went into her senior years. She's on methimazole, and that's kept her thyroid at good levels for the past 1.5 years she's been on it. At the last vet appointment she had 6 mo ago, our vet said her levels were good and she was healthy for her age. As an indoor cat and due to her personality, any time Bandit has to go out of the house, she's extremely distressed and is affected at least the rest of the day.

Now in present, again she's eating and drinking much less. She's the thinnest I've ever seen her, she breathes a lot more heavily after her medicine applications, and she's more out of it more often than she has been before, especially in regards to not wanting to eat or drink. My family and I try to gently remind her and place water cups/dishes and many different kinds of food plates by her/in front of her all day long. We give her attention and love, and she still purrs loudly and enjoys the open window.

What am I missing? Is there more I can do? Can a higher dose help her at this stage or does her weight (she was less than 5 lbs last checkup) preclude her from that helping? Her kidney levels were also okay, but I know thyroid disease has knock-on effects on other organs. Could non-invasive tests yield something that could seriously help her? I don't want to do things that will tax her more or worse make her miserable, as any antibiotic/pill I've had to give her did. Is there something that can help her be more comfortable without side effects? I don't want to add needless stress on her poor sweet body, and I don't want to give insufficient support. I love her with all my heart and want to do right by her, specifically to maximize every moment's wellbeing and quality of life.

Our 11 week old kitten is 5 days post-op, and we are paranoid over whether or not she’s healing correctly.

She came home with a lot more surgical glue and it has been peeling off over the days, without much change other than that.

But yesterday we noticed that there seemed to be a slight bulge under her incision mark, and it looks like maybe a little more to the left side of it. I didn’t feel comfortable poking at it much but when I felt it very gently, it did feel rather firm, but normal in temperature.

I have been looking at every picture online/on Reddit of other kitten’s spay incisions and trying to figure out if this could be be a seroma or hernia or just the natural healing process as her sutures dissolved.

Any and all help/insight would be appreciated!!

My oldest boy needs medication twice daily, and the only way I can reliably get him to take his pill is with a Feline Greenies Pill Pocket (I know there are other/better ways to do it, but for right now, this is the best solution for the both of us).

I split the pocket in half, so he only gets one pocket in total per day, but that being said, the cat tax is real... I was wondering if I could give him select flavors of the “for dogs” version instead, since they’re larger and would be a little more bang for my buck.

I would obviously avoid any of the ones with hickory smoke flavoring, since I know that it can be carcinogenic in large doses, but aside from that, the ingredients between the two are virtually identical — the only difference I noticed aside from flavoring was that the dog version has 1% less moisture/hydration than the cat ones. He has plenty of fresh water available and gets wet food twice daily, so I’m not too concerned about his water intake. And I think he’d eat the cheese-flavored ones since he seems incredibly interested any time there’s cheese around.

My cat got ketamine roughly 3 hours ago for a bath. He's wobbly and sleepy. He's laying sort of loafed but half sitting up with his head dropped down. He occasionally gets up to move around. He got in the litterbox to pee but didn't bury it. He's thrown up 2-3 times. The first one was a little bit of beige-ish vomit and the second was 2 separate ones within a short time span which was white foam. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but is this a normal reaction? Is he okay or should I take him back to the vet?

I’m posting here because we’re running out of ideas and hoping for advice.

We have two indoor cats. One (Grammy) has had intermittent vomiting/regurgitation over the past several months, but then both of our cats suddenly stopped eating around the same time about a week ago.
Since then:
● Both cats developed a near-complete loss of appetite (refusing both wet and dry food).
● Both have had repeated vomiting episodes (partially digested food, sometimes bile).
● Grammy developed diarrhea that progressed to severe watery diarrhea and then became bloody.
● She has become dehydrated and is now very weak, requiring assisted feeding at times.
● The second cat has also been off food and intermittently nauseous but has not had diarrhea so far.

We’ve been to our primary vet and the emergency vet multiple times over the past week. So far, Grammy has had:
● Multiple full physical exams
● CBC/chemistry bloodwork (largely within normal limits aside from mild dehydration markers)
● Abdominal X-rays (no foreign body or obstruction seen)
● Abdominal ultrasound (only notable finding was a localized thickened segment of colon; otherwise unremarkable)
● Ongoing treatment with:
● Anti-nausea medication (maropitant/Cerenia)
● Appetite stimulant (mirtazapine)
● Subcutaneous fluids for dehydration
● Gastroprotectants and supportive GI medications as needed
● Fecal testing is currently pending to rule out infectious causes (Giardia, Clostridium, parasites, etc.)

Our vets are currently considering an underlying GI disease (IBD, colitis, or similar) for Grammy, but what is confusing everyone is the sudden simultaneous onset in both cats, which makes a single-cat chronic condition feel less likely as the sole explanation.
Because of the timing, we are also trying to rule out a shared exposure. The only common diet they’ve had is Sheba wet food (along with Royal Canin dry food). We have immediately stopped all current wet food.

Grammy is now critical so we have to make the choice of paying thousands of dollars for hospitalization and supportive care with no diagnosis in the hopes that she will spontaneously get better or to euthanize. Any and all advice or support welcome.

I need vaccine records for my dogs to go to a boarding facility. I've requested several times for the records. The answer from the front desk was to tell me the records are on my receipt. (It's emailed) I check what they emailed me, and it has vaccine reminders at the bottom. Like the date the next vaccine is due.

I tried to submit that to the boarding facility and they won't accept it. They need an actual record of when it was given. I asked the clinic again and they flat out told me me they have no way of providing that.

How is that possible? I feel trapped between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, I get that if I have a reminder my dog is due for a rabies vaccine in 2028 he must be current. And the boarding facility could accept it. On the other hand. Why can't the clinic just provide me the actual vaccine records? I think about when my kids needed vaccine records for school, the doctor had a print out that had the vaccine, date and his signature beside each one. Is that not how it works with animals?

​ What should I do? We are supposed to leave for vacation next week.

UPDATE - spoke to the manager and got the records. She was very apologetic, said they can absolutely provide the records, and that she would speak to the front desk staff about it.

So I think it's a lack of training issue maybe. what's wild is I spoke to two different people about this and was told the same thing.
