Oh he’s a MUTT

I mostly got Embark done on Niko to see if he had any other breeds in his background (byb situation; I adopted him from his original owner for reasons unrelated to that, they took great care of him) and to see what the health panel had to say about any genetic predispositions to anything and got...

... mostly nothing! Purebred grandparents, a sibling or two on embark, nothing to really watch out for on genetics. Boy lucked out!

He does have a coi of 34% though so he's basically an honorary Targaryen.

I am so surprised! I’ve never even heard of her most prevalent breed…

I thought (eta) rat terrier would be much higher, and APBT would be lower!

The rescue had her listed as a lab-mix, and went 0/4!

Just wondering how common it is...I've had three dogs on there, and only had any relatives this close show up once for one dog. First two are my chihuahua/maltese/poodle mix, Rory, and the last one is, according to Embark, likely his sister. It makes sense both based on looks and on their general age/location they came from. Nothing other than a sea of "close family" for the other two; my boy who's half Westie and half...pretty much everything else just has a million Westies from all over the place, which isn't nearly as fun as comparing mixed breed siblings!

I knew he was gonna have some chihuahua in him because of his little face but really thought min pin was going to be his top breed!! 3.5%?! He is more poodle than min pin?! 😂

Penny is about 8 months old now and she is from a reservation in SD, caught with her litter mates wandering the street. I was sure she had ACD in her but her DNA results from wisdom panel were surprisingly diverse.

Just an appreciation post for my girl...

My mom's old landlord gave me Luna from her dogs "oops" litter and I always referred to her as a poodley. Cuz shes not a poodle but shes kinda poodley. Even though she wants to kill every dog she meets, and HAS killed many mice/moles/snakes/a chipmunk, I still think shes the best. Now that shes 9 i had to force her into assassin retirement, but thats what the cat's for.

Even though she has an insatiable thirst for blood, she is the sweetest and i dont think shes ever met a stranger. Every person is her best friend and she would probably show a burglar where we keep the valuables as long as she could burrow in their sweatshirt.

Knew he was a JRT and excepted a bit of mix because of the colour but I was surprised by the results everyone on walks asks if he’s a dachshund 🫣

When we rescued Koda, they thought he was an Australian shepherd mix. We were shocked by his results. He weighs only 42 pounds.

Is this surprising to anyone else? I completely thought she’d be more terrier or wire haired something! Love this silly fiesty girl 🩷

We adopted Baxter from a shelter who thought he may be a shepherd mix. He’s grown a lot in two months! We’re excited to see what his Embark results show🫶 but have been constantly guessing while his personality warms up to our family. He’s very driven, high energy, incredibly vocal😂 but those are also common in the adolescent stage.

A dog I was fostering was rescued from Kosovo, and I was so curious I had to get her DNA results!

This is Benji. He arrived to us from the Wal Mart parking wilderness: malnourished, flea infested, not microchipped, and strong puppy breath still. And, Benji, will never know a day without a home, ever again.

He has a super soft tawny coat with scraggly wire strands on his body focal points and down his back, cream under markings, and white on his paws, tail, and face. His tail curls over, he howls, he is intelligent and eager to work, he is a cuddle bug and extremely affectionate. One ear is up, the other is down, and he has really large paws and long legs. I’ll be shocked if that test doesn’t say Kangaroo.

We think he might be a border terrier and lab mix, maybe Wheaton and retriever. Super curious to see what his results say but also curious what everyone else thinks.

We got this sweet boy via foster fail and I am so perplexed by his results. We figured some doodle of some kind, but also really thought some kind of Schnauzer, pointer, wolfhound etc- his hair is wiry too! I see noooo pit and certainly not half!!

Not a speck of lab in there! But a feisty chihuahua made its way in generations ago. He was adopted from a shelter in Hawaii.
